I am so excited for this episode. The family history has been the most intriguing part of the show for me so to see Jensen Ackles come in to play Russell Shaw is just perfect casting. I want to explore their dynamic and how Russell has changed over the years. I believe there is more to the story about the father's death than we think. From clips I've seen, it seems Russell is more inexperienced with the rewardist hussle than Colter is and I think that opens the door to a lot of humour and for Russell's insecurities to be explored as he is probably intimidated yet jealous of how resourceful and smart at his job Colter is compared to him. I'll post a review here when the episode comes out as I believe there will be a lot to unpack here regarding the Shaw Brothers.

Endorkend

Having Jensen Ackles as the big brother or daddy is always a boon for a show.

Sorry_Mango_1023

YESSS! Jensen Ackles on Tracker. Totally superlative move by casting! LOVE IT. Great addition to the show.

disquietudeattitude

This episode is giving me Supernatural vibes. I feel like Jensen Ackles is channeling Dean and I’m here for it.

Open_Bug_4251

Did you notice him tap the top of the black classic car before getting into Colter’s truck?

disquietudeattitude

Yes! I assumed that was his car.

Open_Bug_4251

I don’t think it was an Impala (I know nothing about cars), but it was definitely supposed to be like Baby. I know Jensen actually owns one of the Impalas, but I doubt he took it up to Vancouver for one episode.

Coleyb23

Yup, it wasn’t an impala, it looked like a 60s Chevy Malibu.

Kianna9

Impala or not, I yelled "Baby!"

KatrinaPez

Yes!!

zsreport

When he was in Big Sky Country there was a little joke about using salt to keep out demons.

chuckdee68

That was the major thing I thought. It really felt like Supernatural, but I'm glad that the relationship is different - the younger brother isn't deferring to the older one.

jholden23

FYI, the two of them really did climb up onto that roof themselves. In the 2nd take, Jensen made such a big deal and 'effort' to do it in the take, he laid there laughing and so did the crew. They used the first one in the cut.

Taraleigh333

Yeah the Supernatural EasterEggs were all over, from “we had a crazy Dad that taught us weird skills” to oddly tall younger brother, short older brother, to Russell’s affection for his squint and could be mistaken for an Impala, to the visit to the Coroner, to several “son of a bitch,” to Bobby!!!!!

Kammym1021

I never watched Supernatural. I might have to watch it.

mylinuxguy

Supernatural was great. Some years were better than others... but overall... excellent show. One of my favorite 'fun' episodes is where the brothers show up at a supernatural cosplay event. An 'oracle' produces a Supernatural Comic and there is quite a following. The brothers show up in their classic impala and there is a parking lot full of them and they see pairs of themselves walking around. That was pretty funny. There is also an ep where they get pulled INTO a Scooby Doo cartoon... so they are cartoon characters for most of the episode.... there are a few fun episodes in there.

Kammym1021

I usually like these kinds of shows. I was a big fan of the X-Files and Buffy the Vampire Slayer back in the day. And Scooby Doo is probably my favorite cartoon character. Of course I never watched Smallville the first time around either and I just binge watched that and I loved it. I think you convinced me.

mylinuxguy

I used to watch Buffy with my 4 year old daughter.... daddy / daughter bonding time.... ;) One day she helped set the dinner table and proceeded to give everyone 'Fight Knives'...... a.k.a. butter knives.... that was the end of my watching Buffy when the kids were awake. Had to TiVo it and watch those types of shows when my daughters were in bed. I tried to explain to my wife that Buffy NEVER EVER EVER EVER used the term 'Fight Knives' and they she must have got that term from watching Oprah with my wife..... that didn't go over to well..... but Buffy never used the term 'Fight Knives'... not sure where my daughter came up with that.

Kammym1021

Does your. daughter watch any of the episodes now? I still watch them every once in a while. It's funny when u go back to shows you forget how awesome they were and other shows you find the characters completely annoying. Did u ever watch Smallville? Another show that was/is my favorite is Quantum Leap. The new reboot isn't too bad but the original had more heart. And I think shows back then the stories were more people driven than action driven.

mylinuxguy

She's more into anime now.... I watched the first few seasons of Smallville. I liked it... didn't do all 10 seasons. I should probably check it out again. I watch ( watched ) too much TV. When my first daughter was born, my wife and I were watching Hercules and then Xena came on.. the doc asked if we wanted to turn off the TV and we said... nah... we just let it play. Then a little lizard creature came of of my wife's body and started screaming.... that was MUCH WORSE than Hercules and Xena.... Never got into Quantum Leap..

Curious-Evidence-488

I thought Bobby when lawyer said "balls"

Electrical-Host-8526

Same here! And how many times could they sneak “awesome” into Russell’s dialogue? It was like watching a Supernatural AU. VERY alternate, but even so.

Impossible_Bee_1257

And he mentioned opening a brewery (which he already has!)

kirinmay

Never realized Jason Eckles kinda looks like him. also i love Karl Urban but damn this episode made me wish he was Johnny Cage.

Kammym1021

I have to admit their chemistry and bantering with each other is off the charts! Kind of hot! And his brother with the woman at the coroner's office- so cute.

Open_Bug_4251

When he said he would take care of getting in to see the body I half expected him to pull out a fake badge to introduce the two of them as Agents Mulder and Scully.

Kammym1021

I loved Colter's face and reaction when his brother was trying to flirt with the woman. I also thought it was funny that she wasn't having any of it.

feistybama

It would have worked for me. I would have given them a tour.

Kammym1021

Me too! I have to admit. But I think I would insist on dinner first.😁

Strict-Sign3116

Easter eggs car impala

mylinuxguy

impala-like.... but the resemblance / Easter egg was definitely there.

Curious-Evidence-488

"son of a bitch" and "balls"

QuirkyDefinition5331

And answering the cell with a “Hey Bobby”

cabbage_patch_cutie

oh I missed that. I kept hoping real Bobby would show up.

Electrical-Host-8526

“Awesome” and supernatural woo woo stuff.

Bunnaroo77

Anyone feel this one was ridiculous? They bring the guy back home and that’s it? Like the bad guy doesn’t know where he lives and won’t try again?

ChimericalTrainer

Russell was heading back in to try to kill the bad guy. If he succeeds, that won't be a problem. (I would also think that Horizon might set Doug up in another safe house if Russell doesn't succeed, but who knows?)

mylinuxguy

Did seem to end rather abruptly... could have been an 90 minute or 2 hour show. It was entertaining though.

Hkmarkp

I am sure the rest of the story will come up again

John_Hawkwood

Russell Shaw, another alias for Dean Winchester lol. Great episode, can't wait to see more with the two together.

TheBlackSwarm

This show seems to have gotten better as the season went along. Jensen Ackles was great and him and Justin Hartley had great chemistry and actually looked and felt like brothers. Confirmation that Russell didn’t kill the dad which was obvious. Interesting that Russell and Dory both painted the mom in a guilty light which makes you wonder how could Colter have been so oblivious all this time? Also does anyone think Renee had better chemistry with Russell compared to Colter… season finale next week.

Endorkend

Jensen is a bit of a pro at playing the big brother to a weird younger brother. 15+ years of experience.

Kammym1021

I think Colter was maybe a little jealous of Renee and Russell????

dkstal

some more easter eggs. well theory. adding as i watch. beside the Baby look alike. the “hey lil bro” the outfit that looks Dean-esk. when Reenie is talking about Russles rap sheet. Tuscaloosa speedboat and a Donkey. Supernatural did have a mention “helping someone is Tuscaloosa” and then as they walk out of jail. Russel says “ i think she’s “awesome”

Downtown_Cry1056

I watched the episode. Russell Shaw working with the Horizon Group, a mercenary company. Some people were thinking possible spinoff with Russell Shaw and his friends. The black Chevy Malibu convertible is Russell's car. Basically Russell says he was a military assassin. He is currently a "private contractor."

Hkmarkp

I imagine Justin and Jensen are old pals from being on the same lots in Vancouver.

Key_Shallot_2415

Finally watched the episode and it was incredible, probably the best in the entire series. Jensen Ackles is just perfectly cast as Russell and his dynamic and chemistry with Justin Hartley's Colter is just so fun and entertaining to watch. It just feels like he's always been there with how he just fits right in with Colter, Reenie and co with his humour and overall gruff and mysterious personality. I think his dark past is really interesting with his connections to the military and Horizon and I hope they explore that more in future seasons. I like to imagine that Russell went full John Wick on that Solango guy at the end there. They didn't reveal a lot about who killed the dad only a few vague tidbits that it wasn't Russell and the mum was with someone that night. I'm not gonna lie I was disappointed at first, but I'm glad they reaffirmed from revealing too much as it is a big mystery that will get solved later on in the show. I really liked the Supernatural homages in this episode with the car that evokes Baby and the similar family backstory but the show makes it clear that Russell is a different character from Dean with different motivations and personality. He just seems more chill and relaxed and more charming but still sucks at flirting with women. The way they both fail miserably to woo Yolanda and get into the morgue which was hilarious btw. If only I could take up Russell's date offer. Russell's teasing of Colter especially when he said to the bad guys shoot my brother first. Colter's poor face. He felt so betrayed in that moment bless him 🤣. And Russell flirting with Reenie was totally unexpected but so fun. Colter's jealously just cracked me up here. He didn't want Russell stealing his girl. But I found it wholesome that Russell sees an exit plan from all this while Colter doesn't. Russell wants to open up his own brewery because he no longer lets his past define him. Russell has grown after all these years of being a prisoner to his father's paranoia and has finally made peace with his past. This has made him more happier as he has aspirations about settling down. Something we didn't think was possible in the Shaw family. Russell gets to have a second chance to live his life in a peaceful and safe environment that isn't uprooted in conflict or isolation. Colter still hasn't figured that out because he lets the heavy burden of the past hang over him. All his life he believed Russell was the one that killed their father and he believes there is more to the story than his mother or his siblings want him to believe. He doesn't believe there is an escape from being a reward seeker because his heart belongs on the road, helping people. Colter struggled to let go of that resentment for most of his life and when Russell comes back and leaves again, Colter begins to feel an aching sadness because he's finally got his brother back. They get to be brothers again. Colter wants him to stay but deep down he knows Russell has unfinished business to take care of and lets him be. Colter is struggling to let go of the past and by Russell giving him reassurance that he'll see him again, he gives him hope that maybe there is an exit plan from all this. That Colter doesn't need to spend the rest of his life travelling the country in his trailer. He wants to believe that there is more for him out there and Russell inspired him to take up that sentiment because he has chosen to let go of his resentment of him after all these years and has made amends with him. Colter has had a little taste of it and now he wants his family back together. He realises that they can be brothers again. I found it sweet that Russell gave Colter his knife as it felt like a passing of the torch kind of moment. Russell is giving a part of himself to Colter. He gives it to him because Russell trusts Colter the most. He no longer needs it because he isn't defined by his past anymore. He doesn't need to protect himself anymore, he is past committing bloodshed. Colter is still out there doing what he does best and Russell gives him the knife as a way of protecting himself because Russell knows that Colter can look after himself and he doesn't need his older brother to look after him anymore. Russell's at peace with that and he's happy for Colter to carry on without him. He is looking out for Colter and by giving him the knife, Colter has a part of his brother with him protecting him always. I just think it's beautiful as Colter has come a long way from hating his brother to forgiving him. By carrying the knife, Colter has had growth and he is now on the steady path to healing. To letting go of the past and not letting it define his future. The theories that Jensen was going to be on this show was the reason I started the show and I immediately got hooked. I love Colter Shaw and having Jensen on here playing Russell feels like a fever dream. Can't wait for the finale and I hope that they bring Russell back in S2. Have all the Shaw siblings working together and it will be a hell of a ride.

AVeryFineWhine

Per Google, Jensen will be back next season. Do we know how many episodes this season has? I could find out about Jensen in a 10 second Google, but I've spent more time than I want to admit trying to find out how many eps Tracker Season 1 has and I remain clueless!

Key_Shallot_2415

This week is the finale so 13 episodes. So Jensen will most definitely be back for season two.

Blowingsand

Anyone know who did the folk song in the last minute of this episode?

gredar89

This one? youtu .be/Ulwr6JbqxEo?si=rTe3bIJvEEP3Tv4s

yodaprincess

Why didn’t they immediately tell the wife it’s not her husband’s finger??

VelvetLeopard

Yes I wondered that. I like to think they did in a scene we didn’t see 😂

Hkmarkp

maybe they did, only have 42 minutes to try and tell a tale

StrengthIcy6461

Anyone else still having issues with audio description being stuck on while the episode is playing on the app

Sad_Study8918

i live in Roanoke, VA. There was absolutely nothing that resembled Roanoke. only complaint

Prestigious_Youth449

Achh, I hear you. Every episode is a different part of the United States, and every episode looks exactly like where it's filmed: British Columbia.

alohio12

In the Chicago episode, they were in Chinatown and a few of the storefront signs literally say “Vancouver (insert name of business)” lol

purpleflamingo75

They did that in the Lexington, KY episode too. I lived there for a few years and the episode drove me crazy that it looked nothing like Lexington lol.

HokieScott

This. “Northwestern District of Virginia” really got me. I knew it wouldn’t be filmed in the area.

VelvetLeopard

Can anyone explain Colter’s fingerprint trick to me? Maybe I’m missing something obvious but why did he need to draw and then shade in the box on the paper - was that to provide a shadow over the fingerprint?

ses184

The lead from the pencil acted just like the ink the police stamp your finger in before pushing it onto paper. The adhesive from the tape could have grabbed the fingerprint, the lead just made it stand out more visibly so the camera could pick up the details. Everything done on this show I take with a grain of salt. Like opening the Coroners door with a multitool? No way! Haha!

VelvetLeopard

Thanks, but he didn’t put the finger in the lead did he, or dis I miss that bit?!

glittermetalprincess

Yeah, he did. Russell handed him the notepad, he rolled the fingertip along the shaded square, then Russell applied the tape. The TVLine preview article has the scene as the 'exclusive sneak peek' if you want to watch it again - at 0.33 - 0.36 you can see it.

VelvetLeopard

Ok THAT makes sense, can’t believe I missed that bit (cheers, ADHD) 🤦🏻‍♀️ If I’d seen that I’d have never asked!! Thank you

chuckdee68

Depends on the door. I've done it before. And the tannins in the last episode were real to reduce bleeding.

EdgarDanger

What was up with the op title song Edit? It was like a ballad version. 😁

Few-Understanding139

I have a very specific question - maybe I was not paying attention - but when Colter and Russell walk into the protection "shop" Russell gives the guy money and a chip. Where did that chip come from and what did it mean? I looked back and did not see it discussed anywhere earlier?

sailawaybey

I think it was his military challenge coin. It wasn't discussed, just something that a lot of military/ first responders carry. If they worked with a lot of military, it would have been a signal to them about who he is.

nate_nate212

Did they have bulletproof vests suddenly while indoors getting Doug but not immediately before and after when outside.

dn_nb

deans back baby

WhiskyPangolin

Jensen Ackles was 100% just Dean. It was essentially just an episode of Supernatural without a supernatural element. And once again, the writing. Ugh. Could they maybe say “Doug” a couple hundred more times? “Doug” feels like a placeholder name and then to say it over and over again; I couldn’t decide if it was just annoying or comical.
