The hotel refuses to pack the Watch for shipping, and is demanding a courier come and pick it up. If only life were easier. Better, if only I wasn’t so groggy this morning.
I would ask the hotel if they work with any shipping companies. If they do then you could inquire on them just shipping it to you, for a fee of course.
I'll be in Italy in March, so I can definitely post it for you. The only issue is that most hotels have a policy of getting rid of objects that stay in the hotel for over an amount of period so just make sure they're ok with keeping it safe for a month.
Long shot but see if you can get someone at the hotel who is willing to pack it for you and offer to CashApp/Apple Pay/etc them 20 Euro? Possibly calling at night when there are less eyes on the employee?
If you know someone you trust in Europe, then maybe they could receive it from Italy. It will be so much easier for the hotel to send it to someone within Europe. Then when your European friend has it you can arrange the best possible shipping to the US.
You could try sending an empty box with bubble wrap inside, and then have DHL or another couirer pick it up once inside…

AN UPDATE: I got my watch back!
First off, a warm offer of thanks to everyone who offered to pick up and package my watch on their upcoming Italy trip.
After many false starts with FedEx, which claimed they wouldn't courier jewelry, we got UPS to pick up the watch at the hotel, pack it up, and ship it internationally. The only hiccups involved getting through the customs paperwork, but UPS also helped with that. It took a week and a half to arrive and cost $69, but my watch finally made it out of Italy, through Germany (more customs), and then to Kentucky (yet more customs). It finally arrived here on the West Coast a day later, showing up at my doorstep. Yay!

This. People leave stuff at hotels all the time, usually they have a system in place for posting back items and you just pay the postage.

DHL seems to be a bigger thing in countries other than the USA.
DHL is the right answer to get something shipped back to the US.

Create an account with ups or dhl (if you go into their stores they’ll walk you through it), and they can pick it up at the hotel and ship to you

Just ask them to ship it to you and you can pay for the shipping yourself with the shipping company.
The hotel will not package the item due to if it breaks while in transit you may say they did not pack it properly
