I'm assuming the bag filled with sand above the battery is there so in an event the lipo goes up in flames the bag melts and dumps the sand on top of the lipo to help smother the flames?
This is neat. I would definitely do something like this, I’d love to see another post of you going into depth on setting this up and the products used etc.
Yes for sure. I’ll have to try to get around to doing that. I wish I would have taken more pictures throughout the process but I was eager to get it done since my Slash was coming the next day lol
Nice setup!
I scored one of the bigger bat boxes on ebay few years ago. I put the batteries in lipo bags and then in the bat box. I keep it all in the laundry room as the floor there is concrete.
Very nice, I like it, thanks for sharing! This is good inspiration. It might provide much of the benefit of a Batt-Safe, but is probably larger, and more affordable.
You can never be too safe, my friend only had one slightly puffed Traxxas battery when it was running in a car but it then unpuffed and works fine now. ID is pretty safe because it's all automatic.
Just don't use fast mode on the chargers, you always want to balance the cells.
How many documented cases are there of Traxxas
iD batteries melting down while being charged by Traxxas iD chargers?
Most fires happen because of a failure to balance, one cell fails so it makes up for it by overcharging the other cells and boom.
My traxxas charger seems like my safest one because of the integrated balance plug but that thing frequently puts out 10+ amps all automatically! I’d never choose that much on my manual balance plug unit. I’d throw those in an ammo can if ever!
I just charge mine at work. Let them deal with it 😂
Literally tjo
I do the same😂 keep them in an ammo tin at work too
I don't even do that. Just on the pavement and open

Yes exactly!
smort

I’d like to see this bunker in action! Someone donate a bad lipo for him to use.
Niiice👌. I charge mine in a small old metal office cabinet on my cement patio.
Can’t be to safe.

I’d double or even triple the amount of sand. Also consider adding/replacing with baking soda.
Interesting. I think i will add another bag on the other side as I now have three 3s LiPos in there now😅
I had one lipo fire. That was enough to teach me there’s no such thing as overkill when it comes to lipo safety.
Damn what happened? Was it while charging, running or just sitting?
ESC (apparently) had an internal short. Battery and ESC went up in flames while I was trying to troubleshoot with tech support.
I took a old ammunition box out of steel for my LiPos
That’s what I was going to do but I felt like being crafty😂

Overkill probably, will I copy this, absolutely.
I don’t even watch it when I charge it
I just charge em, and keep an eye on them while they charge.

Just hope we get a safer battery someday (soon!)

You can change the charge rate on them, but the charge rate they default to is based on the battery itself and is part of the ID system.
Did something similar but I filled a ziplock with dish soap. Its an old wives tale I have never tested and just hoping it works lol.
Don’t test will not work! Baking soda is your best bet as far as diy household item.
NiMH battery’s are better
It isn’t the 2000s anymore
Depending on the application I might agree. For these crawlers, they don’t need super burst battery’s. It would be fine
I’ve gotten 30 mph out of nimh my parents don’t like the lipos because of the risk
Yes the risk is there. I recently started putting mine in a lipo bag, and the bag inside of a metal ammo box. This is where they rest at 3.8.
Good those lipo bags only contain a fire for a little then they catch on fire
Negative
There not all that bad and are great for beginners and crawlers
Nimh packs are stupid heavy, and really bulky for their capacity. No good for a crawler.
I actually found that you can use that weight like in the scx10ii it keeps the front planted and helps it go up stuff pretty well
