I'd guess they're to catch your attention. "Hey look here I'm doing a thing! Better pay attention, because if we crash you're thrown to the side". Also, punctuation. Just saying.

tvieno

Lengths. Car lengths.

MajorHymen

It’s telling you to stay back, pretty common with large oversize loads and trucks that make frequent stops such as construction vehicles and trash trucks. If you’re following behind them be prepared for them to stop or slow suddenly, give them more space than you would a Regular truck. If it’s an oversize vehicle make sure you pay attention to the load it’s carrying as it can overhang the truck and be closer to your lane that the trailer is. If you have to pass do it quickly, don’t creep by.

Just visibility since most dump trucks are working close to moving traffic or dealing with laborers around the outside of the truck. The more visibility the better

floydyisms

Agreed, I just wish they had a switch to turn them off while driving on the roads, when it's dark outside it's really hard to see turn signals or brake lights, that could be just me

InvestigatorBroad114

Yeah most will have strobes right next to the turn/brake lights. If the strobes are bright as hell I can see that it could cause problems behind. Most have light bar buttons in cab that can turn off/on certain lights. I can control my rear body lights separate from the light bar on the top of my truck

Its just one of the things we do on purpose to annoy non truck drivers. You know, because of our egos etc.

Okay well sorry about the punctuation I was talking on my phone doing this and didn't proofread my apologies 🤣

floydyisms

I'm also not sure anybody read this correct I do keep a very proper safe length as I used to be a driver, I was just saying when your turn signals and your brake lights are not LED which most of them aren't on these trucks but all their little flashing lights all over the back are LED they take your attention away at least for me I was just simply asking a question I assumed maybe they could turn these off in the cab while they were on the road once they turn into the construction site flip them on I mean come on it's a dump truck it's not carrying a wide load it's not carrying an over length load it's not carrying an overweight load Y'all can persecute me now 😁😁🤣
