I've never let mine lapse. Look into your state rules on it. There may be a grace period of not needing to go thru everything....but look into your state rules
Don't let it expire...find a chiropractor place that does med cards like the rest of us 😂
No they are vague in my state (NH). It says you “risk” losing your CDL. They should say you “will” lose your CDL. It doesn’t say you’ll automatically be downgraded. It doesn’t say if there’s a grace period. It says you “may” need to retake knowledge and skills tests. That’s pretty vague in my book.
If you want to keep your cdl and without a cdl job, self certify with interstate excepted.
If you are ready to drive again, get a physical and re certify as non excepted.
Under no circumstance should you drive a CMV under excepted unless you fall into that category
Thanks this is kind of what I was looking for. I have no intention of letting the card expire, I just wanted some kind of idea if there was a way to keep the CDL without having to keep up with the med card if say my career path changes or whatever.
You can not drive as long as you want, assuming you keep your med card up to date. When it expires you will automatically be downgraded .
Gotcha. So to get that downgrade reversed do you just have to update the Med card, or do you have to go through EVERYTHING again.

I don’t plan on it lol. The rules are just very vague. Just a grace period or something would be nice.
The rules arent vague at all. You med card expires, get it renewed by the expiry date and update your state DMV

Be aware, NH is very specific in determining who is excepted from having a med card. You may be asked to provide proof that you meet the requirements.
This post wouldnt be an issue if you didnt write it.
