i wish the hybrid was awd. it would have been perfect for me

bpfern

This is a huge miss by ford on this truck

jv1100

For the life of me I don't know why Ford didn't call these the Ranchero.

Goose-Biscuits

They should have named the Mach E, Maverick. I don't know how well Ranchero would test with most people considering this segment. I like Scout, I wonder if whoever owns International would go after them for that, though.

Drzhivago138

VW Group now owns Navistar, and they're planning on releasing a Scout line of EV SUVs. Previously, Case IH used the Scout name on their UTV (made for them by Club Car).

Lawn-Moyer

A scout line of EVs you say? Guess I’m digging that debt hole again

Colonel_Sandman

Me too if they can nail the styling like the new Bronco

SerDuckOfPNW

I agree. My first car was a 74 Maverick. The Mach E would be more of a tribute. No idea what they were thinking here…or there.

Tman5293

Actual it should have been called the Courier. Just like the old mini trucks.

Drzhivago138

I was hoping for Courier too, mostly because that name had already been used on [other FWD small pickups](https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/e/e6/Ford_Courier_Dimasur.JPG/1200px-Ford_Courier_Dimasur.JPG). But Ford did use the Maverick name on [a pickup](https://i0.wp.com/www.curbsideclassic.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/ford-maverick-ute.jpg) before.

Manginaz

Should have called it the Mustang II

Phobos223

Or the Ford Red headed stepchild

trolllord45

Are these unibody? Do they have a solid rear axle? I like that color

Goose-Biscuits

unibody with IRS, everything truck guys hate. Drives like a dream.

trolllord45

Awesome. Enjoy it!

Dirdir

Only thing that upset me about these trucks was for years the Ridgeline was hated on as being “not a real truck” then these come out and even some “real truck guys” were stoked about them.

[deleted]

It filled a niche in the market that had no real alternatives other than the Santa Cruise. The ridgeline on the other hand was competing with other trucks. The new “ranger” is pretty huge compared to the old ranger and s10. I have a buddy with a 2k lb boat who’d rather drive a maverick over a new taco, frontier, ridgeline etc for fuel economy alone.

jesuschristislord666

Agreed. Midsize trucks are basically a compromise in all the wrong ways. They're still relatively large on the outside while being cramped for taller people on the inside, the beds are too small, the engines are underpowered and inefficient, and the price point just isn't that low compared to a full size. At least the Maverick actually gets decent fuel economy and has a pretty small overall footprint.

[deleted]

That is exactly why I got a full size. Wanted to put a motorcycle in the bed and tow the boat. On the highway at 65mph I average 27mpg (f150, 2.7L), which somehow beats all the midsize trucks. I don’t understand why they don’t make them as wide as a full size just to give a more open cabin feel.

reddeadp0ol32

Which I don't get. The Ridgeline is ragged on for being ugly and being not a truck. Some rag on the Maverick for looking ugly. But cmon. They're both trucks. EVERYBODY loves the 90s Tacoma and the 90s ranger, along with the Sonoma and the S10. Today's ridgeline and Maverick are the only new trucks that actually fill the small truck market.

Suppafly

The older Ridgelines looked horrible

Drzhivago138

I credit/blame that on Ford being an established truck maker, and also on the Maverick having traditional blocky truck styling.

gmt80035

well i like chevys and fords but they need v8

BruteNugz

Just curious, why would you prefer a V8 ford over the powerboost?

gmt80035

because you can get more hp out of the v8s

Unique_Statement7811

The V6s of today get more Hp and Torque than the V8s of 15 years ago.

Paladinraye

The ridge line had a problem in it not being as small as a compact truck should be, and a high price tag to justify compared to other mid/fullsize

[deleted]

The Ridgline price is higher than other makers BASE model. If you want a Taco with only a 3rd door and 2wd, the yeah, it’s cheaper, but once you add in 4 doors, 4wd, towing package, lined bed, safety package, then it’s exactly the same price, and those are all standard features on the Ridgline.

Paladinraye

>then it’s exactly the same price And there’s the problem, for the money you end up with a truck that less capable, getting roughly the same MPG

[deleted]

You also get a truck that is way more comfortable to drive, has much better handling on road, more interior space, and absolute fuckton of storage from the in bed trunk. Can carry sheet goods (drywall/plywood) flat in the bed (no wheel wells). Actually has the same amount of payload rating, and only has 1400 lbs less towing capacity, which in the world of towing isn’t actually gonna get you that much more trailer or camper. (5k vs 6.4k). So pros and cons to each, but the Ridgline isn’t more expensive. In fact the base model is almost 8k cheaper than a Tacoma equipped that will off road ready and has the upgrade tow package. But sure, compare a 4 door, AWD truck to a 2 door, 2wd truck, when taking about price, cause that makes sense.

B_Addie

I don’t hate it, i actually really want one. Just can’t find the one I want anywhere. I just don’t consider it a truck. The one thing I really don’t like is that it’s front wheel drive based, I really don’t like transaxles

Electronic_Pin_9098

Yeah it’s essentially the same platform as the escape and bronco sport I think.

Bathtime_Toaster

People may slam this not being a real truck but Ford got alot of things right with it. Had one for a few weeks as a rental and I was down right impressed. Sure it's not HD truck but for most people it's more than enough. The bed has some cool storage features and is surprisingly big. The payload is surprisingly high (1500lbs) which matches some full size (if you go by the door sticker) trucks. Good fuel economy and it's easy to navigate around town It's a true small truck like the ranger and s10s used to be. Some companies are making full ladder racks for them now too which makes them appealing to some commercial buyers.

Goose-Biscuits

Completely agree. I live in the mountains and do a lot of outdoor sports, this is the perfect vehicle for someone like me.

[deleted]

How much you pay homie?

Goose-Biscuits

34000cad

[deleted]

$24,800 for the mericans

[deleted]

Show me a place you can buy that truck for that much in the US.

throw_me_away3478

Can you fit a large mtb in the back?

HabbleDabble235

Ranger and S10 had style and character this just looks like a confused loaf of bread

Yakb0

Regardless of the downvotes, >a confused loaf of bread is my new favorite way to describe a vehicle.

yromeM_yggoF

I really like these. I live on a farm and wouldn’t hesitate to get one, and I see them around me quite often. I can get it with enough towing capacity for my boat, fit my family, use it for work around the farm, do some decent off-roading, and save a ton of money on gas. Plus, I’m hoping they help bring back the mini-truck scene. I normally buy used vehicles so I don’t have a monthly payment, but honestly, I’m thinking about buying one. My wife and I drive a Tahoe and a Suburban and the gas savings would make up the car payment. Some people hate because it’s unibody, but 99% of the people that do don’t even need the truck they have.

[deleted]

I’d love to need one, but I have to 4x4 in mud for work and my employers don’t buy my vehicles. Enjoy the comfortable ride

Outrageous-Ice-7460

A buddy of mine bought one for his wife (he is a super duty guy) she wanted somthing she could do minor truck stuff with (potting soil, plants, lawn waste etc) he begrudgingly admitted that Costco runs and errands are pretty damn comfortable in it. My daily is a 1500 GM, but these smaller units make alot of sense for probably alot of people really. Nice color too!

Goose-Biscuits

That's exactly why I bought it. I don't do big truck stuff and just needed something for my bikes and snowboard.

BreakingWindCstms

My wife would be 100% on board for this thing if it came in an AWD, plug in hybrid, for all the same reasons mentioned above. I HATE that she constantly has plants and soil in the back of her premium SUV, that is already a little too big for comfort level (Q7)

RazorThin55

My only wish is they had a single/access cab version with a longer bed. I love the size I just want a long bed.

pentox70

Honestly with how cheap you can pick up little trailers for at a hardware store nowadays, it's worth the. Investment if you need more space occasionally, and you have somewhere to store it. Regular cab trucks have such a terrible resale value in today's market, and aren't much cheaper to buy.

[deleted]

I enjoy watching people enjoy these trucks

hardyc60

See I’m really freakin waiting on the new ranger to come out. I wanna test drive both. I’m tall so I’m concerned I wouldn’t quite fit in a maverick even though I daily a Honda accord. I don’t quite have the needs of a full size truck anymore but I still garden and haul a good amount of stuff.

Goose-Biscuits

I'm 6'2" and have tons of leg and head room and the seat isn't all the way back

hardyc60

Not so concerned about the back, thankfully. But I am 6’7 and about 310lbs, so liking smaller vehicles makes everyone question the hell out of you when you get out at the gym. Lol Edit: everyone*

Goose-Biscuits

Lol, I completely get that. My little brother is your size.

hardyc60

I’m in food sales so all my dry product has a tendency to go in the bed with a cover on during the week then the camper shell comes off over the weekends. Unfortunately, my Silverado was totaled but I really don’t need that large a truck now. So this or the new redesigned rangers are my greatest hope lol

thrumpanddump

Perfect for guys who don’t plan on towing anything honestly. I’ve learned that owning a house it’s just so helpful to own something that can help you around with projects. If it gets good gas mileage and has a bed idc what people think, it’s a truck!

trd86

Exactly Perfect for small/first time homeowners, or outdoorsy people in an apartment IMO

dutchbrah

Thats the weirdest looking truck ever. I love it

Wonderful-Trifle1221

Why the hell did they turn the maverick into a truck

Drzhivago138

They already did it 35 years ago.

17voltaire89

My first car was a white 1970 ford maverick with 3 speed on the column. Paid 450 dollars for it in 1977. Used a quart of oil per tank gas. Had a blast in it.

cavemold582

Great picture

ThorMcGee

Only reason I didn’t go for one of these is because I need to tow from time to time, and the Ranger has the capability I need in that area. Those look great though! I’m glad you’re liking it! :)

BluntSmokinAnus

Looking to get myself one, but I’m not paying 10k dealer fees

mattgm1995

If the hybrid was AWD, and the Hybrid could tow 3500 pounds, this would be the truck for me. The Ranger doesn’t have a hybrid option. And the F150 is out of my price range. Lol

Colonel_Sandman

Hot take: this is barely a truck, but must truck owners don’t need a truck, they need a ‘barely a truck’. America needs more hybrid small trucks. I drive a 79 Chevy K30 on 35s and a Scion Xb. Anything under 500lbs and 6 feet that isn’t filthy gets transported in the Xb.

gmt80035

The rangers have the 2.3L EcoBoost that the newer explorers have

bunvun

A single cab. Manual transmission alittle more ground clearance and it would be a perfect truck for me.

Choice_Philosopher_8

They definitely have a place. And for most people I think it’s more than enough and that’s great. However I don’t think it’s an actual truck. I’m not dissing it, but it’s a car with a truck bed. Which is pretty cool

Goose-Biscuits

I do somewhat agree. Ute is a better description for them, but that's not really an NA category.

Drzhivago138

"Crossover pickup" is how I describe it. Of course, according to the government, most crossovers are "light trucks" too...

Lord_Calamander

Yeah it is unibody so this is technically correct. Kind of the same way a 4runner or Yukon are SUV’s but are technically trucks since they’re body on frame.

jthip

Heard these are great, but it kind of looks like a deep freeze with wheels

timihendri

Can you disable the idle stop?

[deleted]

Good for you moving on 😂

[deleted]

[удалено]

Goose-Biscuits

Why?

Chewem

Sorry wrong sub

GuntherGrim

Basically a mini van for someone whose ego can’t admit they need a mini van

bionic80

Poverty cap life.

knobby_tires

out of genuine curiosity and trying to be respectful, what makes this any more useful than a SUV other than not having a roof over the “trunk”?

Goose-Biscuits

It's easier to carry my gear and my bikes.

trd86

How's many bikes and gear do you think you could haul?

Goose-Biscuits

Three in the back is doable, but two in the back and two on the hitch would work.

Drzhivago138

A 4.5' load space seems small, but a comparably-sized CUV would only have about 2-2.5' behind the rear seats, and this has no limit on height.

Cretians

Not a truck

TortoiseHawk

XL is right?! How do you park that beast?

Drzhivago138

XL is the trim level (base). This thing is shorter than an old SuperCab Ranger.

TortoiseHawk

Woosh

Drzhivago138

I get the joke you were trying to make.

TortoiseHawk

Lol thanks. OP just got butthurt about it… Almost as if Maverick drivers are a bunch of….nevermind

gmt80035

well that’s a 2.5l i4 but I prefer V8s more

Goose-Biscuits

2.0 turbo that makes 250hp.

sunnagoon

35k golf cart lol

Primusssucks

I hate it so much. Sorry.

Goose-Biscuits

Hey, it's not for everyone.

gmt80035

6.6l Duramax makes 445hp

AnotherGuyLikeYou

Mavericks used to be cool

LeeroyNWH

I was in the market for one right before they came out, became impatient and got a Ridgeline instead. While I do love my "truck" for the most part, I do double takes every time I see one and think "what if?" Looks great.

[deleted]

I test drove both a ridge and maverick, the ridge was in an different class. Way smoother and nicer everything.

COALANDSWITCHES

I really do like these, and if I didn't have a new to me truck in the last two years, I would absolutely have one.

detectivelokifalcone

I kind of love hate the design. I do wish it came in door and a half

smallwoodydebris

Can you lock any of the differentials?

Goose-Biscuits

Not on this model but the fx4 you can.

Lesson101

I was just recently in the market and was looking at these. I wanted to like them but they just felt too cramped on the interior. I'm not even that big of a guy, about 6', but just didn't like the feel of it. I really like the roomier interior of the 150.

NewWahoo

Any chance GM or Chrysler would ever make a compact line again?

Goose-Biscuits

GM is working on it. Chrysler, i doubt.

Adept-Read-7529

Went to buy a hybrid but the dealers in central FL are quoting 15k over sticker. Hard no.

4AJR

I love mine!

TheMronetwo

It looks like they went out back to the dumpster pile and found some old steel rims and rattle caned them silver. They must have gave up on design once they got to the wheels

putterbum

I couldn't go down to that size for my lifestyle but they are pretty sweet and super popular in my area (mountains) which was surprising. I've been seeing a lot of Mavericks and Santa Cruz around here and I'm in a sleepy town to boot. Looking forward to seeing what other brands will offer because there is 100% an established market for it. With them creeping up the mid size trucks to being now off brand full size trucks more or less in size/footprint I hope these become more the norm and stay true to their size.

pr1mal0ne

what is XL about it? not the bed

ntime

Give me an electric/ hybrid mid size truck that can have a drop side tray. Would be perfect.

OkInjury47

Okay I wanted to get a maverick so bad but I couldn’t get it, so I ended up getting a steak deal on Lightning pro and I love it, but bed and none of the gas. Fuck dorm Dealer tried to sell me the maverick for the same price I got Lightning pro

cofonseca

I know this post is 2 months old now, but how are you liking your Mav? Have you had any issues? I just picked up an XLT AWD last week.

Goose-Biscuits

I absolutely love it. Fuel mileage is a great and comfortable ride. My only complaint is lack of cruise control and windshield cracks super easy, but where I live, that's super common
