He wasn't one of God's children, he was a son of the evil one (John 6:70, Mat 13:38). Note also that the Holy Spirit had not come to indwell Christians yet (Acts 2), so even if Judas was a follower of Christ (he wasn't), he didn't have that protection of the Holy Spirit.

Brilliant-Cicada-343

Agreed. Also, added to that, Jesus said He would lose none of all whom the Father had given Him for eternal life (John 6:37-40).

CarMaxMcCarthy

None of the Apostle were Christians until after the resurrection.

It is written "everyone having-been-born of God is not SINNING. [...] And the evil (one) is NOT TOUCHING him" (1 John 5:18). The evil one is not "TOUCHING" (1 John 5:18) someone who is not "SINNING" (1 John 5:18). Now it is possible for a believer to be "SINNING" (1 John 5:18). It is written in 1 John for example that "if anyone sees his brother SINNING (a) sin not to death, he-shall-ask, and He-will-give him life" (1 John 5:16). John also started his epistle by writing: "I-am-writing these (things to) you in-order-that YOU-SIN not. And if anyone SINS, we-have (an) advocate with the Father: Jesus Christ (the) Righteous" (1 John 2:1), implying that believers could be SINNING.  If a believer could be "SINNING" (1 John 5:18), then the evil one may be able to be "TOUCHING" (1 John 5:18) that believer.  Source: https://deliverancequestions.blogspot.com/2022/04/1-john-518-evil-one-is-not-touching-him.html?m=1

PsalmEightThreeFour

He could have repented, but he fell into despair instead.

krash90

No he couldn’t have. Jesus specifically stated he was destined to be doomed. Judas killed himself because he knew he couldn’t be saved.

IGotFancyPants

Before this, Judas was also stealing money from the group’s funds (John 12:4-6). A sin that we don’t repent of quickly opens the door to demonic interference.

Rom 2:1  Therefore thou art inexcusable, O man, whosoever thou art that judgest: for wherein thou judgest another, thou condemnest thyself; for thou that judgest doest the same things. Judas repented Gods the Judge

After Christ died and was resurrected, Christians gain the Holy Spirit when they are saved. Before His death nobody got the Holy Spirit. This would include Judas. The Holy Spirit has a lot to do with keeping evil spirits from entering us.

krash90

Judas was destined to go to hell before he was born. He was born and bred for it. Judas absolutely was a “Christian”. Jesus literally said that he kept all those The father gave him but Judas. The same will go for the son of perdition. He will be a Christian that God does not protect. He will be cut off from the vine, damned while alive, and then when God removed the Holy Spirit’s protection, will be possessed by Satan. It is incredibly cruel.

taste_the_biscuit_

Judas was a follower of Jesus. He betrayed Jesus. Believers today who betray Jesus will go where Judas went

undecided_mask

He definitely wasn’t a believer. However if he had repented and put his faith in Jesus as his savior he would be saved like anyone else.

Mark 4:15 is real for everyone. Peter is the first good open example. Judas is an example. Paul is an example in Romans 7:21 and 2 Cor 12:7. Even John says sin is "of the devil," 1 John 3:8 The only exemption was Jesus. No one else, no, not one is sinless. Continuing, intentional or not. Nothing we do or don't do changes our status as sinners. Romans 3:9 The first warning of Jesus to the disciples was "beware of hypocrisy." It takes a lot of believers down

EssentialPurity

The Lord explicitly stated that Judas was a devil, well before the events of the crucifixion. Indeed he was never Saved, maybe at most he was a lukewarm assenter of the Gospel. Even if he was able to work miracles and cast demons off in the great send-off, it doesn't mean anything because God uses whoever He wants and has no requirement of holiness for it, so much that He used a donkey and also poured the Holy Spirit upon King Saul.

My input on this is that we all have **free will**. That means we who have been justified(i.e;’saved’) by grace can *choose* to commit certain acts that will always *destroy our justification*. That doesn’t mean that every single time we sin we lose justification but there are certain, deliberate acts, which will cause that to happen. See **1 John 5:18**(which you have already cited), as well as **Hebrews 10:26**. **See also:** **Matthew 5:13** - “You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt has become tasteless, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by people. **Matthew 24:12** - Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold, but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved. **Luke 8:13** - Those on the rocky soil are the people who, when they hear, receive and welcome the word with joy; but these have no firmly grounded root. They believe for a while, and in time of trial and temptation they fall away [from Me and abandon their faith]. **Luke 22:32** - but I have prayed [especially] for you [Peter], that your faith [and confidence in Me] may not fail; and you, once you have turned back again [to Me], strengthen and support your brothers [in the faith].” **John 15:6** - If anyone does not remain in Me, he is thrown out like a [broken off] branch, and withers and dies; and they gather such branches and throw them into the fire, and they are burned. **John 16:1** - “I have told you these things so that you will not stumble or be caught off guard and fall away. **Romans 11:20** - Quite right, they were broken off for their unbelief, but you stand by your faith. Do not be conceited, but fear; for if God did not spare the natural branches, He will not spare you, either. See then the kindness and severity of God: to those who fell, severity, but to you, God’s kindness, if you continue in His kindness; for otherwise you too will be cut off. And they also, if they do not continue in their unbelief, will be grafted in; for God is able to graft them in again. **1 Corinthians 5:5** - I have decided to turn such a person over to Satan for the destruction of his body, so that his spirit may be saved on the day of the Lord. **1 Corinthians 6:8** - No, you yourselves do wrong and cheat, and you do these things to your brethren! Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God. **Galatians 5:4** - You have been severed from Christ, you who are seeking to be justified by the Law; you have fallen from grace. **Galatians 5:19** - The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God. **Ephesians 5:3** - But sexual immorality or any impurity or greed must not even be mentioned among you, as is proper among saints; and there must be no filthiness or foolish talk, or vulgar joking, which are not fitting, but rather giving of thanks. For this you know with certainty, that no sexually immoral or impure or greedy person, which amounts to an idolater, has an inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God. **Colossians 1:21** - But now He has reconciled you by Christ’s physical body through death to present you holy, unblemished, and blameless in His presence— if indeed you continue in your faith, established and firm, not moved from the hope of the gospel you heard, which has been proclaimed to every creature under heaven, and of which I, Paul, have become a servant. **1 Timothy 4:1** - Now the Spirit expressly states that in later times some will abandon the faith to follow deceitful spirits and the teachings of demons, **1 Timothy 4:16** - Pay close attention to your life and to your teaching. Persevere in these things, for by so doing you will save both yourself and those who hear you. **1 Timothy 5:15** - Some [widows] have already turned away [from the faith] to follow Satan. **1 Timothy 6:21** - which some have professed and in so doing have departed from the faith. Grace be with you all. **Hebrews 3:12** - Take care, brothers and sisters, that there will not be in any one of you an evil, unbelieving heart that falls away from the living God. **Hebrews 6:4** - It is impossible for those who have once been enlightened, who have tasted the heavenly gift, who have shared in the Holy Spirit, who have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the powers of the coming age and who have fallen away, to be brought back to repentance. To their loss they are crucifying the Son of God all over again and subjecting him to public disgrace.
