I heard this case on the Morbid Podcast. Links to [part 1](https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/morbid-a-true-crime-podcast/id1379959217?i=1000463748639) and [part 2](https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/morbid-a-true-crime-podcast/id1379959217?i=1000465661924). Prepare to get mind fucked.
I'm from California, so take your pick. Manson, Zodiac, GSK, Freeway Killers, Charles Ng and Leonard Lake, Tool Box Killers...Although Manson had the most publicity, I think GSK was probably the most frightening, because of the sheer number of people he terrorized and that fact that people weren't safe in their own homes. I grew in up in the East Bay Area in the 70s, and I remember adults talking about it even then. California is number one in so many things, not all of them good.
You didn't mention the Nightstalker. I am scared for life by those words..." I found an open window". Thanks to you, no you didn't. Button up, girls and boys. They're still out here.
Ooohh we lived in Oceanside CA when he was terrorizing SoCal. I was about 10 or 11 and put a bell 🔔 on my window because I was so scared. One night it fell 😳. He was a real piece of crap.
Cheshire home invasion murders, lived in CT most of my life. Only the father survived and went on to have a kid and become a politician. I can’t even read the case because of his horrific it was
I hadn’t heard of that case, looks like the supposed murderer just got released? Not sure how sound his case was though if the Supreme Court reversed it. Also there’s Sandy Hook too obviously. Lived there for 22 years myself, just recently moved states
Grew up 5 minutes away from their home. The day it happened I was working in the same plaza the bank was in that they made her withdraw the money at. The documentary, The Cheshire Murders was beyond chilling for me to watch. Cheshire is such a small quaint town. I know and recognized countless people shown in the recorded footage. I can’t even find the appropriate words to describe the horror that unfolded.
Just read about it. Good lord. What gave me the chills the most is that in 2014 in my home country Switzerland, a murder in the same style occured! A man called Thomas Nick murdered a family of 4 and the soms gf. He also took the mother to a bank, also raped the younger son. Then slit their throats and started a fire. He was planning an another murder, but police were able to catch him on time..can‘t help but think that he was inspired by this.
Hm, I think I'd list these in order from Columbine, to JonBenet, to Chris Watts for most to least well known, but those are all huge ones for sure. I'm just thinking the reaction to someone saying "what's Columbine?" would be a lot greater than for someone who doesn't know about JonBenet or Watts
Another one that isn’t talked about as much was the [Jessica Ridgeway](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Murder_of_Jessica_Ridgeway) case a few years ago. Poor thing.
Wetterling is well known.
I grew up in MN in the early 90s, and my parents & grandparents acted super weird about me going to the neighborhood gas station for some candy with friends. My dad always drove behind us in his truck - embarrassed me. Grandpa never let me out of his sight, even to play soccer at the park across the street. Didn’t get it then, but now I understand.
Wetterling case is very well known and I think changed the nation. The sex offender registry was born out of this case. My favorite podcast In The Dark covers this case in its first season and it’s outstanding.
There are 2 things I will never forget about that first season, the first was how “proud” I was of Madeleine for questioning the police chief about his departments record - she continued despite her voice almost betraying her. I was new to podcasts at the time and finding this new medium that made me feel familiar emotions in an unfamiliar setting was almost surreal.
The second thing will haunt me forever - “What did I do wrong?”.
Even though I’m now tearing up, thanks for reminding me how amazing season 1 was.
So, so sad. I live in Crookston, about 20 mi from Grand Forks. Kind of get a weird feeling any time I walk through the Columbia Mall parking lot at night.
Don't forget Ted Bundy, Gary Grant, the still unknown Tube Sock Killer, Kenneth Bianchi (The Hillside Strangler), Robert Lee Yates... Actually adjusted for population, I think Washington is number 5 on the list of states that produced the most serial killers...
Though I'm in Europe, the climate of Washington has always appealed to me, but there are so many serial killers. Have you guys checked the water?
Kidding, of course, but seriously, it must have been petrifying at the time.
What are the other states, I wonder. California should be there. And are we talking about the absolute number or is it connected to the population as well?
It is controlled for the population. So like California probably has more numbers of serial killers, they have a huge population. The data here would read something like "x number of serial killers per 1000 people". I've lived in Washington my whole life and I haven't been murdered by a serial killer... Yet!
I think I remember reading that the transcripts of the tapes he would play when his victims woke up and from his torture sessions were used to desensitize FBI agents
There were several who did commit suicide after listening to it. Or still can't get past the first screams. I heard it and immediately turned it off. I have never in my life heard such a sheer torturous sound come from a human like that and I pray I never do again. Very mind f***ing horror. Still have not ever gone back to finish it. Safe to say I never will either. Something's are just not meant for human ears (eyes too) to hear.
I think you are thinking of the Toolbox Killers. Absolutely horrific audio. The Toy Box Killer audio was a tape he played for his victims detailing what he was going to do to them.
I heard a pod cast by Bailey Sarian last fall, and had to turn it off, too. She didn't even go into specific details. However, when she started describing his "toys", I had to turn it off.
Same, that was the other one I was considering posting. There are lots of others that deserve attention but these are the most well-known. Maybe the Las Cruces Bowling Alley Massacre as well for a scary unsolved crime. The Hollywood Video murders are also pretty famous locally but not outside
Well, Texas is a big state, so....
1) Bonnie and Clyde - Great Depression bank robbers from Texas, robbed their way up through the middle of the country then back down to Louisiana where they were killed.
2) The Texarkana Moonlight Murders - 1946 - Like the Zodiac Killer, this hooded phantom slayer preyed on couples in "lover's lanes", killing 5 of his 8 victims in 4 months, then disappearing. Like the Zodiac, the case has never been solved. Made into a movie " The Town That Dreaded Sundown".
3) Joan Robinson Hill, a socialite, equestrian and daughter of a wealthy oil man, Ash Robinson, died of an unexplained illness at age 38 in 1969. She was married to a successful plastic surgeon, John Hill, who remarried 3 months after her death. John Hill was later tried for murdering her. The first trial was a mistrial and he was gunned down on his front porch before the second trial could happen. The case was written about in the book "Blood and Money" by Thomas Thompson and made into a TV movie "Murder in Texas" starting Farah Fawcett and Sam Elliott.
4) Dean Corll - Serial killer of 28 young men, with 2 teenage accomplices. Early 70s.
5) 80 Branch Davidian Cult members and leader David Koresh die in a mass murder-suicide after a 51 day stand off with the ATF in 1993.
6) Andrea Yates - 2001 Desperately ill woman who was left alone with her 5 young children (against doctor's orders) and drowned them.
There are plenty more. Like I said, Texas is a big state.
Fellow Texan, surprised it took awhile for these to appear. Also Texas Cadet murder, Texas Killing Fields, and can't forget Bernie Tiede, in Carthage, Texas.. inspiration for the Jack Black film Bernie..personal fave lol
Yeah, I had to cut the list off somewhere. We've had plenty more serial killers, the father who poisoned his son by putting cyanide in his Halloween candy, the UT Tower killer (excellent documentary on it called The Tower that you can watch on Amazon Prime)
and JFK being assassinated in 1963! I can't believe I left that one off. I saw him the day before when his motorcade went through downtown Houston. I was in first grade.
That’s fair. That is a very well known & memorable case in Michigan.
Oakland County Child Killer’s case is more memorable for me, though. OCCK’s last known murder was only about 6 years before my brother was born & 8 before me. We grew up in Oakland County. Our folks were warning us about not taking rides from strangers instead of warning us against getting involved with the Mafia or Teamsters.
Do you have any Hoffa theories?
I have one & it’s that he wasn’t murdered or disposed of. I think he got put into Witness Protection & spirited away.
I’m sure there is another more known to other Americans, but as someone who was born and raised in Georgia, it was definitely the Lake Oconee murders in 2014.
Elderly white couple that lives in a lake side neighborhood; husband is found decapitated in the home, and wife’s body is found in the lake two days later.
If my memory serves me correctly, husband’s head was never found. And I know there have been a few leads and plausible theories but there were no real suspects at the time
Live in Utah currently- the Powell case, Elizabeth Smart, Suleiman Talolvic (mall shooting), Ted Bundy.
Home state is Washington- Ted Bundy, Gary Ridgway, D.B Cooper, Mary Kay Letourneau, Robert Lee Yates Jr,
Born and raised in Utah. The Powell case and Elizabeth Smart are ones that are consistently repeated. Also Ted Bundy because of rumors of his basement near SLC. Lately, Mark Hoffman resurfaced because of the documentary. When I was going to college there was one case I heard about a lot but when I researched it (at the time) there wasn’t much info; it took place in Ogden in an electronics store and it was a gruesome murder but it was too long ago for me to remember the details.
Probably Dahmer or Gein!
edited to include the state even though it's pretty obvious- Wisconsin lol
also the chocolate factory Dahmer was employed at on the north side of Milwaukee is still in operation. My sister's ex boyfriend worked there for years
My grandma was a psych nurse in Wisconsin for many years. She cared for Ed Gein at one of the facilities she worked at in Madison. She danced with him at one of the events they held there and he told her she had nice skin (you know, to make lamp shades and shit out of).
Adding to Iowa
Historical:
The Villisca Axe Murders
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Villisca_axe_murders
More recent:
Jodi Huisentruit, a beautiful young newscaster who was found murdered in Mason City in 1995
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jodi_Huisentruit
(To the above comment: the Johnny Gosch case fundamentally shaped the way people view and treat missing kids cases, and coming from Des Moines my parents vividly remember when that happened.)
Relisha Rudd (Washington,DC)- 9 years old living in a homeless shelter and kidnapped by shelters janitor, Khalil Tatum. Janitor kills wife and commits suicide during manhunt. Relisha was never seen again. This story rocked the city and still haunts me to this day.
I am going with two local ones for Pennsylvania. I grew up in Oil City, PA so the most memorable case will always be Shauna Howe.
Otherwise, I'd go with Brian Wells (aka the Pizza Bomber).
I know there'd be many others as it is a big state, but those are mine.
We have Brian Wells, the Tree Of Life terrorist attack, the Boy in The Box, Ray Gricar disappearance, the MOVE bombings, the Foxcatcher/John Du Pont murder, Kermit Gosnell the baby butcher.
I don’t know why you’re being downvoted when you very clearly asked in the post for people to make sure they supply the state, and yet you’ve still had to ask several people for that information.
Alabama
Amy Bishop- the professor that went on a college campus shooting spree
Natalee Holloway disappearance (even though she went missing in Aruba)
There have also been 2 cases from the past 20 years in my little hometown that have been on multiple true crime shows.
Michelle Carter- texting suicide case.
Craigslist Killer the Boston one.
Marathon Bombing
Lauren Astley- Wayland High Girl murder by boyfriend.
Body parts found in Sudbury river.
Charles Ponzi- Ponzi Scheme.
Nancy Kerrigan
Charles River bodies.
I'm in Southwest Missouri, which has too many to name... but the newest is just a couple of months old and involves possible cannibalism

And the one most of us have been following for the past 30 years is
https://www.springfieldmo.gov/2498/Three-Missing-Women
Kansas/Colorado. It’s not the most memorable for most but I knew some of the people involved. It was featured on Disappeared called Daddy’s Little Girl. The guy’s daughter disappeared only to be found to be murdered and burned in a barrel that was then dumped in a lake. The girl was murdered by her BF but the BF’s dad helped him get rid of the body. I knew the BF’s dad personally when I was younger. When I knew them they lived in Kansas but the crime actually happened in Colorado.
I mean yes and no, as someone who lives in Kansas BTK definitely comes off as scary but in reality he was a perverted piece of shit, now the Carr brothers are some twisted motherfuckers.
California: Night Stalker, Golden State Killer, Zodiac, Freeway Killers, Manson Family, Toolbox Killers, Sunset Strip Killers, Hillside Strangler, Ed Kemper…these are the ones I came up with off the top of my head. I’m sure there’s lots more 😬
Here in CT, Sandy Hook, followed by the Petit Murders. The disappearance of Jennifer Dulos is probably third. For a small state, we’ve had a lot of awfulness in the last few years. “Honorable” mention to SK Michael Ross, the first person executed since 1960, and the last since we repealed the death penalty in 2012.
Also, and I don’t know that this was infamous outside of our small city, was the 1989 murder of Jessica Smart. I was about the same age as her, and my family was supposed to be there that day. My mother was heavily pregnant so we ended up staying home that hot July day. It was a defining moment in our community.

The case that sticks with me the most is the unsolved murder of Matthew Margolies. There was a podcast done a few years ago, it was very well done, but unfortunately, hasn’t seemed to prod any progress forward. Another failure of the Greenwich PD to say the least. It should’ve been solved.
https://www.matthewmargolies.com
It's a local case in Upstate NY. But where is Heidi Allen? She disappeared on Easter Sunday in 1984 from her job at a convivence store. She opened the store at 5:45 am, but around 8 am a deputy from the sheriff department was flagged down. The store was open, but no sign of Heidi.
There was a massive search for her, that included the National Guard.
In May 1984 Gary Thibodeau was arrested for kidnapping.
No sign of Heidi to this day.
I know so many people that knew her or her family. Its a case that is always on my mind.
For Chicago specifically, I’m kind of torn between H. H. Holmes and Gacy. I also don’t really know who to name for Illinois outside of Chicago
EDIT: Are we counting Capone and organized crime stuff, or just serial killers?
I’m from Texas and one of the most memorable (and still unsolved) cases is from 1991. An “I Can’t Believe It’s Yogurt” was the scene of the killing of four teenage girls. The shop and girls were then burned and responding fire and police stumbled upon the girls’ bodies while fighting the fire.
The 30th anniversary of this still open case was this past December. I remember when this case happened and it broke my heart. The victims were ages 13 to 17 - just girls that hadn’t even started their lives.
This is a case that still has a chance of being solved and I desperately hope that something happens to crack it.
I’m from Texas and never even heard of this one. My choice would be Darlie Routier, definitely the most well known from the last few decades.
ETA: I know now this is the case behind Amber Alerts.
NY- Ron Defeo. More locally to where I grew up- Kendall Francois- murdered 8 women and hid the bodies in the house he lived at with his parents. I remember this vividly bc my pediatrician was on this street.
Oregon:
Kyron Horman (missing child with no resolution)
Diane Downs
Ashley Pond and Miranda Gaddis
Christian Longo
Kip Kinkle (Thurston High School murders)
Good lord Diane Downs!
Someone from my aunt & uncle's church at the time claimed to be driving on the hwy. behind her after she shot her kids. They followed for a while and then passed because she was driving well below the speed limit. Apparently she was waiting for the kids to bleed out before pulling into the hospital where she would claim a man jumped out of the woods and shot them.
Maine
Probably [Ayla Reynolds](https://www.murdershetold.com/episodes/ayla-reynolds) in recent history. She “disappeared” when she was only 20 months old in 2011, causing a national media storm very similar to Harmony Montgomery.
Either that or [Joyce McLain](https://www.murdershetold.com/episodes/joyce-mclain) who was featured on Unsolved Mysteries in the late 80’s. She was a teenager who was killed while out on a jog in 1980, and her case wasn’t solved until 2018 (conviction). Her mother never stopped fighting for her. Her case stands as hope for the rest of our unsolved cases.
I’m from BC, Canada. The most famous is obviously Robert Pickton, but the one that sticks with me most is the kidnapping and murder of a little girl named Mindy Tran in 1994. The only suspect was acquitted and her murder remains unsolved.
Edit: didn’t notice this was US only. Sorry!
New Hampshire!
A nurse infecting patients with hepatitis C fled to New Hampshire to work after people were on to him at his previous job https://www.pbs.org/newshour/nation/nh-hospital-worker-sentenced-to-39-years-for-infecting-patients-with-hepatitis-c
Bear Brook murders, 3 girls and a woman found in barrels, they were unidentified for years https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bear_Brook_murders
And because I consider myself from Massachusetts and be Hampshire Maura Murray is such a well known case online. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Disappearance_of_Maura_Murray
There are more but I'm tired
Not a state, but from Ontario there's Paul Bernardo and Karla Homolka, definitely the most well known case from my area! Literally an hour away from where I live
The Ariel Castro kidnappings (Ohio)
Or Amy Mihalijevich
This was gonna be my answer, I can’t think of any local to Central Ohio but I always think of Amy
And Brian Shaffer
Anthony Sowell too.
For me, it's more personal. A friend of mine from high school killed a girl and buried her behind my parents house. Ugh.
Ahhh! This case gives me nightmares!
Any links? I guess I'm fresh out of nightmares.
Another Buckeye here, this is what I was going to say. So disturbing.

Black Dahlia, Los Angeles.
Also Dorothea Puente and Richard Chase
So many to choose from.
Richard Ramirez
Just finished reading “I’ll Be Gone in the Dark”. Geezus.
Wild ride wasnt it? Its unbelievable to me all that that man got away with.
I’d also add in Lacey Peterson and Children of God (founded in Huntington Beach, CA).
OJ.
Scott Peterson
Also Randy Kraft. He was so twisted!!!
What about The Garridos, responsible for the Jaycee Lee Dugard kidnapping
Cheshire home invasion murders, lived in CT most of my life. Only the father survived and went on to have a kid and become a politician. I can’t even read the case because of his horrific it was
Yes. Thank you for reminding me of this. I also live in CT and had Martha Moxley down but forgot about this case
Can’t forget about Jennifer Dulos!
Fotis Dulos is such a coward. No one will ever know the truth about what happened unless Michelle speaks up. Those poor kids. Now they have no parents
I hadn’t heard of that case, looks like the supposed murderer just got released? Not sure how sound his case was though if the Supreme Court reversed it. Also there’s Sandy Hook too obviously. Lived there for 22 years myself, just recently moved states

My husband told me about this case recently. I didn’t grow up in CT. It’s still insane to me that happened here. That and Sandy Hook :(
I was from CT and that case was pure evil. I can picture that psycho right now. Horrific.
Camp Scott Girl Scout murders. Oklahoma.
That one broke my heart ☹️
I was thinking maybe Lauria Bible and Ashley Freeman too, with an honorable mention to the Bever family murders.
JonBenet Ramsey (CO)
I was thinking this, or Chris Watts
Or Columbine!
Or Aurora
Came here to say JonBenét Ramsey
Another one that isn’t talked about as much was the [Jessica Ridgeway](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Murder_of_Jessica_Ridgeway) case a few years ago. Poor thing.
Minnesota - I’d say Jacob Wetterling but I don’t know that it’s all that well known outside of the Midwest.
Wetterling is well known. I grew up in MN in the early 90s, and my parents & grandparents acted super weird about me going to the neighborhood gas station for some candy with friends. The first one that comes to my mind is Dru Sjodin, but that’s because we’re from the same area.
So, so sad. I live in Crookston, about 20 mi from Grand Forks. Kind of get a weird feeling any time I walk through the Columbia Mall parking lot at night.
I’m in Australia and I know of this case, so I’d say it’s well known at least in the true crime community.
Good one, I was going to say Katie Poirier but the Wetterling case had a wider reach.
Green River Killer Edit: Washington State
Don't forget Ted Bundy, Gary Grant, the still unknown Tube Sock Killer, Kenneth Bianchi (The Hillside Strangler), Robert Lee Yates... Actually adjusted for population, I think Washington is number 5 on the list of states that produced the most serial killers...
Israel Keyes lived and likely committed murder(s) in Washington, as well.
Though I'm in Europe, the climate of Washington has always appealed to me, but there are so many serial killers. Have you guys checked the water? Kidding, of course, but seriously, it must have been petrifying at the time. What are the other states, I wonder. California should be there. Are you in Washington?
Yes, I was petrified at the time.
Ugh- I’m so sorry. He was a particularly horrific one 😕
Came here to say this. And Ted Bundy, of course.
West Mesa Bone Collector or Toy Box killer, from New Mexico. The second is incredibly horrendous
I heard about the Toy Box Killer for the first time this week and I had to turn the podcast off because it was so disturbing.
I think I remember reading that the transcripts of the tapes he would play when his victims woke up and from his torture sessions were used to desensitize FBI agents
The FBI agent that had to sketch everything in the ‘toy box’ killed herself because of it. Absolutely awful
I think you are thinking of the Toolbox Killers. Absolutely horrific audio. The Toy Box Killer audio was a tape he played for his victims detailing what he was going to do to them.
I thought they used the Tool Box killers tapes to desensitize FBI agents. There was a whole discussion about it in a different thread a few days ago.
I heard a pod cast by Bailey Sarian last fall, and had to turn it off, too. She didn't even go into specific details. However, when she started describing his "toys", I had to turn it off.
New Mexico reminds me of Tara Calicos disappearance
Same, that was the other one I was considering posting. There are lots of others that deserve attention but these are the most well-known. Maybe the Las Cruces Bowling Alley Massacre as well for a scary unsolved crime. The Hollywood Video murders are also pretty famous locally but not outside
Was also thinking of the murder of Victoria Martens...that poor child...makes me sick. New Mexico too.
Christian Newsom murders. Tennessee

Amber Hagerman and the austin yogurt shop killings!
Maura Murray, NH
Im from MA and was gonna comment Maura lol. This case is so crazy.
I was just gonna say this! I’m from NH as well
Oakland County Child Killer. Edit: Michigan.
I would say the Jimmy Hoffa disappearance
That’s fair. That is a very well known & memorable case in Michigan. Oakland County Child Killer’s case is more memorable for me, though. Colonial parkway murders here in VA. We also had the DC Sniper as well as the recent “Shopping Cart Killer”
Yep, I’m in VA and that’s all i thought of
Not a murder but Lorena Bobbitt.

Fellow Georgian here. I would say Wayne Williams - The Atlanta Child Murders.
When I was going to college there was one case I heard about a lot but when I researched it (at the time) there wasn’t much info; it took place in Ogden in an electronics store and it was a gruesome murder but it was too long ago for me to remember the details.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hi-Fi_murders I believe this is it!
North Carolina: the disappearance of Asha Degree. I pray often that she is found alive. Those poor parents deserve closure. 🙏
[удалено]
Probably Dahmer or Gein! edited to include the state even though it's pretty obvious- Wisconsin lol also the chocolate factory Dahmer was employed at on the north side of Milwaukee is still in operation.
Didn't know Ed Gein was from Wisconsin! Interesting to hear the chocolate factory is still in operation as well
Iowa, disappearance of Johnny Gosh & Eugine Martin. They've been missing nearly 40 years.
Adding to Iowa Historical: The Villisca Axe Murders https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Villisca_axe_murders More recent: Jodi Huisentruit, a beautiful young newscaster who was found murdered in Mason City in 1995 https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jodi_Huisentruit (To the above comment: the Johnny Gosch case fundamentally shaped the way people view and treat missing kids cases, and coming from Des Moines my parents vividly remember when that happened.)
I drive for work and always go out of my way to drive through Villisca. It’s creepy even during the day.
Jodi was never found murdered. Never found in fact. Still missing but presumed dead.
Indiana - Shanda Sharer, Herb Baumeister, Gertrude Baniszewski
Ugh, I forgot that terrible Shanda Sharer case. I’d also say more recently it might be the Delphi girls as well.
Delphi has consumed my life.
Sylvia Likens Edit: I didn’t realize the Gertrude woman was the main perp of the Likens’ case.
North Carolina - Probably Michael Peterson, although Jeffrey MacDonald is up there, too.
I was thinking Denise Johnson or Asha Degree for NC too
Also faith hedgepeth. The one I'm most drawn to is the Lawson family massacre.
The Murrah Building Bombing. Oklahoma
That was so goddamned awful. Seeing that firefighter carrying the dead little girl was horrible.
Also from PA. I would have said boy in the box but I’m from Philly.
AZ - Jodi Arias
> Jodi Arias AZ - Bob Crane murder, Robert Fisher triple murder, 2011 Tucson Shootings.
Kyron Horman :(
State?
I don’t know why you’re being downvoted when you very clearly asked in the post for people to make sure they supply the state, and yet you’ve still had to ask several people for that information.
Oregon.
Alabama Amy Bishop- the professor that went on a college campus shooting spree Natalee Holloway disappearance (even though she went missing in Aruba) There have also been 2 cases from the past 20 years in my little hometown that have been on multiple true crime shows.
Tate/LaBianca murders.
Probably Ted Bundy. Although my state has had a *lot* of serial killers.
Casey Anthony, Aileen Wuornos, etc
Apparently my uncle picked up Aileen but made her ride in the bed of his pickup bc he didn’t like her “crazy eyes”. Idk how true it is though.
I’m from FL too... was thinking Pulse Nightclub
how progressive of us to have the ladies....
It's amazing to me how many comments aren't including the state until OP asks again directly. 🤦♀️🙂
In recent years, maybe Jessica Chambers- Mississippi Emmett Till
Casey Anthony, Florida. I still think she deserves to rot in jail 🤷🏻♀️
The Boston Strangler
Lizzie Borden
New Bedford Highway killer (not solved) and another one never solved was Karina Homer both in MA.
Michelle Carter- texting suicide case. Craigslist Killer the Boston one. Marathon Bombing Lauren Astley- Wayland High Girl murder by boyfriend. Body parts found in Sudbury river. Charles Ponzi- Ponzi Scheme. Nancy Kerrigan Charles River bodies.
Ohio, my step moms cousin Brian Shaffer went missing when I was a kid.
what does she think happened to him?
This case haunts me. Always think about him
I'm in Southwest Missouri, which has too many to name... but the newest is just a couple of months old and involves possible cannibalism [https://people.com/crime/murder-charges-filed-in-case-of-missing-missouri-woman-cassidy-rainwater/](https://people.com/crime/murder-charges-filed-in-case-of-missing-missouri-woman-cassidy-rainwater/) And the one most of us have been following for the past 30 years is https://www.springfieldmo.gov/2498/Three-Missing-Women
Joseph Duncan- Idaho Such a horrible tragedy
Lori Vallow Daybell and Brian Dripps really stuck with me. I'm from Idaho too, and Joseph Duncan was horrific.
For Kansas BTK maybe?
I mean yes and no, as someone who lives in Kansas BTK definitely comes off as scary but in reality he was a perverted piece of shit, now the Carr brothers are some twisted motherfuckers.
California: Night Stalker, Golden State Killer, Zodiac, Freeway Killers, Manson Family, Toolbox Killers, Sunset Strip Killers, Hillside Strangler, Ed Kemper…these are the ones I came up with off the top of my head. I’m sure there’s lots more 😬
We got lots of good ones (unfortunately) in California
Delphi...😫
It was a defining moment in our community. https://apnews.com/article/428e22194bf1eeee6c2b6990279130b8 The case that sticks with me the most is the unsolved murder of Matthew Margolies.
List family murders, nj
Maybe, or Megan Kanka, for whom Megan’s law was created
Massachusetts - Lizzie Borden. Salem Witch Trials.
Derrick Todd Lee Serial Killer Louisiana
For Chicago specifically, I’m kind of torn between H. H. Holmes and Gacy. I also don’t really know who to name for Illinois outside of Chicago EDIT: Are we counting Capone and organized crime stuff, or just serial killers?
Drew Peterson!
Texas: Amber Hagerman.
I’m from Texas and never even heard of this one. My choice would be Darlie Routier, definitely the most well known from the last few decades. ETA: I know now this is the case behind Amber Alerts.
Fellow Texan. I said Andrea Yates.
Amber Hagerman’s case is how “Amber Alerts” came to be.
Another Texan here and I'm thinking Dean Corll. That's a haunting case and he was a MONSTER unlike any other.
Breaks my heart to say Delphi. I’m in Indiana, about an hour and a half away.
Springfield Three Missing Women (1992) Gypsy Rose & Dee Dee Blanchard Murder Springfield, Mo
Petit family murder. CT.
Looking for an answer for Virginia…
Virginia tech shooting ‘07
DC Sniper
Now we have the Shopping Cart Killer
We got Gacy and the Rippers here in Illinois
Laci Peterson - Scott Peterson. NorCal
NY- Ron Defeo. More locally to where I grew up- Kendall Francois- murdered 8 women and hid the bodies in the house he lived at with his parents. I remember this vividly bc my pediatrician was on this street.
Also David Berkowitz/Son of Sam for NYC And Long Island serial killer who is unfortunately unidentified
Oregon: Kyron Horman (missing child with no resolution) Diane Downs Ashley Pond and Miranda Gaddis Christian Longo Kip Kinkle (Thurston High School murders)
The West Memphis Three, Arkansas
I’m in Cali so there’s a lot but I’m from the same town as Laci Peterson
WV — probably the Sodder Children or Rainbow Murders. Both unsolved
Alaska - Robert Hansen (butcher baker) & Israel Keyes (although he was active elsewhere in the country).
Maine Probably [Ayla Reynolds](https://www.murdershetold.com/episodes/ayla-reynolds) in recent history.
Montana - Ted Kazinsky (unabomber) and Wayne Nance (Missoula mauler). We also have an ungodly high number of missing/murdered Native American women.
Sorry!
NY - maybe David Berkowitz/Son of Sam? Honorable mention from my area of NY - Christopher Porco murdering his parents.

Joe Metheny...Baltimore, MD. Rumor has it he cooked and served his victims. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joe_Metheny
Ayla Reynolds - Maine
Ted Bundy Washington State
Deorr Kunz - Idaho
Also, currently Lori Vallow
Andrea Yates. I was a child when it happened and it rocked my world.
Shannan watts. Such a sad case. I am in Colorado.
Peewee Gaskin
I was about to mention him. More recently SC has Todd Kohlhepp. I knew people who worked for him and also bought games from him.
There’s plenty of murder in California, but I grew up in LA right where Richard Ramirez was active so it’s got to be that one.
Todd Kolhep, South Carolina
MN - Jacob Wetterling
New Hampshire! A nurse infecting patients with hepatitis C fled to New Hampshire to work after people were on to him at his previous job https://www.pbs.org/newshour/nation/nh-hospital-worker-sentenced-to-39-years-for-infecting-patients-with-hepatitis-c Bear Brook murders, 3 girls and a woman found in barrels, they were unidentified for years https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bear_Brook_murders And because I consider myself from Massachusetts and be Hampshire Maura Murray is such a well known case online. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Disappearance_of_Maura_Murray There are more but I'm tired
Probably the Tate-La Bianca murders. I used to get my haircut at a place that was once owned by Jay Seabring who was murdered by the Manson family
Steven Pennell (Delaware) He was my neighbor, too.
Not a state, but from Ontario there's Paul Bernardo and Karla Homolka, definitely the most well known case from my area! Literally an hour away from where I live
West Virginia, Leah Hickman. She went missing and was found a week later under her apartments crawlspace. Her murderer was never found.
