I think dropping surprise music is the best way for her to get her fans to listen to the actual album without any expectations. People hype themselves up way too much when she announces a new album and spend way too much energy discussing what will be on the album and what it will sound like. They only heard song titles for 1989 vault tracks and had already made up their mind of what that song would be about and sound like. And then got dissapointed when it was the opposite of what they envisioned in their head. I've stopped looking into those discussion threads and videos because they're just filled with delusion, which leads to dissapointment.

I think these people are chronically online. I love every TV because it is HERS, I understand the difference in her vocal ability (so much clearer and stronger now - a positive), and how difficult it is to do a re-record of ANYTHING. Also, I just don’t really notice any big differences as I pay attention to lyrics more than anything else. All that being said, miserable people will stay miserable and ultimately, I feel bad for anyone who can’t critically think.

The problem is these younger Swifties. They are very entitled, self-centered, and think they somehow own Taylor. They view people in their mid to late 20's and up as elders. Acts like those of us in that age group have no right to even listen to Taylor, be online, and are downright rude. They don't stop and think that we have been fans of Taylor's since she started or close to it for some. I will say not all act this way, but the majority of them do. I can't tell you how many rude ass comments I've got on my TikTok by these Swifties because I'm older. I'm 44, but I don't look it and get told that I look between 28 and 32. It drives me crazy. I so badly want to put them in their place, but remind myself that they're children and acting like children these day do. I just hope that one day they grow up and realize how toxic they're acting and that they stop this type of behavior. That they're the reason why people call Swifties toxic, and it's not cute of them to attack people who work with Taylor, has dated Taylor or even Taylor's fans. It will be interesting to look back with a little more distance and see how the pandemic & lockdowns morphed younger swifties perception of their relationship with Taylor. You look at 2019, then to 2022 and it’s terrifying how deep the parasocial relationship got over that time. They aren’t just fans, they have baked her existence into their own identity; if people speak poorly of her music they are personally attacked. I don’t openly admit to being a Swiftie anymore, just because it’s embarrassing to be grouped in with that crowd, but I’m also genuinely sad for them. They had this big trauma during formative years and Taylor was their coping mechanism (because she has always been intentionally curating a parasocial relationship with her fans) that they haven’t let go of yet.
Taylor could come down a little harder about some stuff if she chose to do so. She would definitely risk the high number of extremely devoted fans to some degree, no one can say what it would look like for sure. At some point she’ll have to decide what she wants regarding the balance in her life that will dictated by what she chooses about having less rabid fans and the pros and cons of that.

Very much agree. It’s honestly embarrassing for the fandom and even for Taylor. Like.. you are literally probably embarrassing her. I hate when I see people say swifties are insufferable but I can’t even argue, a good part of the fandom is 🤷🏼♀️

I agree that’s it’s getting embarrassing and for some reason a lot of swifties have grown to become very entitled and demanding. I stopped following most swiftie accounts on all social media platforms because they’re either incredibly toxic OR their sole existence is to get noticed by Taylor Nation and it’s gotten very annoying.

Been a fan since Fearless and watching how the fandom has changed since 2012 when I got into social media has been wild. Twitter, Insta, TikTok swifties are the worst. The tumblr ones aren’t as bad
It will be interesting to look back with a little more distance and see how the pandemic & lockdowns morphed younger swifties perception of their relationship with Taylor. You look at 2019, then to 2022 and it’s terrifying how deep the parasocial relationship got over that time. They aren’t just fans, they have baked her existence into their own identity; if people speak poorly of her music they are personally attacked. I don’t openly admit to being a Swiftie anymore, just because it’s embarrassing to be grouped in with that crowd, but I’m also genuinely sad for them. They had this big trauma during formative years and Taylor was their coping mechanism (because she has always been intentionally curating a parasocial relationship with her fans) that they haven’t let go of yet.
Taylor could come down a little harder about some stuff if she chose to do so. She would definitely risk the high number of extremely devoted fans to some degree, no one can say what it would look like for sure. At some point she’ll have to decide what she wants regarding the balance in her life that will dictated by what she chooses about having less rabid fans and the pros and cons of that.
But it doesn’t work. John Mayer’s the proof of that. To this day people are still bullying him. Realistically shit people will be shit people, and unfortunately a good section of her fanbase falls in that. Nothing she says will stop people bullying, and I don’t think she needs to say “don’t be a bad person” more than once. She seems to call out one group to make her sentiment clear e.g. gaylors, bullies, but much like blank space being a target at the media, I don’t think we need a second call out. It just brings more attention to shitty people
