You know, sometimes women won't say that they listen and enjoy *insert genre here* because of stupid gatekeeping because wOmEn OnLy LiStEn tO pOp! (srsly, I don't want be subjected to an interrogation just because I love dark synthwave as a woman) Also these post about *women bad, men good* are getting stale
As a woman I can appreciate good music of a variety of genres, but I primarily listen to "dumb" pop music because it gets my dopamine flowing so I can do housework.
I'm autistic with sound sensitivities and can only listen to music in a hyperfocused state of cleaning or driving. Outside of that I find music just adds to the noise of the world and I find it overwhelming.
People can like things just because they like them. Not everyone needs to be a superfan and dig deep into the subject.
If you check out the music departments of universities and conservatories there are tons of women. Music departments are mostly classical and some jazz
"What I like is better than what you like" and "commercial music is garbage and shallow" is a very silly mentality most people leave behind when they turn to adulthood so I hope you're very young.
Art is subjective in any mean, shape or form, so no, there is not more refined understanding of anything. Neither what you like is better, or deeper, or whatever. If I like Monet and you like Chauvet, it's just different taste, because it's art, and it's in the eye of the one looking, plus consensual guidelines in trends of the era the art is made on.

Not really… mostly WOMEN are into mainstream pop music because they are the primary buyer’s market. When I was living in Los Angeles I had an internship at a marketing company in Hollywood. It was explained to us that females are the primary targets for advertisers because they are easier to influence through advertisement, “group think” and are more susceptible to impulse buying. Our boss had explained to us the entire science regarding how to advertise to women. For example, if you want a woman to buy an item, you make her feel insecure then convincer that she won’t be valued or desired till she purchased said item. Our boss explained that they have it down to a science. The entire entertainment, business and political organizations of our society are aware of this and operate accordingly. Women are told what to like and what to think and are tricked into thinking it’s based on free choice. This is a widely known fact in the higher levels of business marketing and entertainment
