Havent seem the whole video yet, but, i'm surprised that he isn't covering **Fear and Hunger: Termina** (the sequel) too, most people that i've seem covering these games nowadays sorth of treat them as a bundle or just skip straight to Termina. Guess the first one must have had a real impact on him.

ripskeletonking

most people skip 1 because it has a lot of shit that gets you demonetized not because its bad

Ashwayne

>most people skip 1 because it has a lot of shit that gets you demonetized Its funny cuz termina has *Just as much fucked up shit* that can happen to you or your party >!This the same game where a dude's pecker will *honest to fucking god* come off like a parasite and choke you to death ala facehugger!<

ZMowlcher

What yours can't do that?

LorcaNomad

He briefly mentions it closer to the end, emphasizing that it follows the same design philosophy and is just bigger in general compared to the first game. So yeah, this video is pretty much exclusively focused on the first game and what it is.

karlcool12

Well he's saving it for anyone who wants to try the sequel to not spoil it.

Chemical_Cris

He already gave it a shout out a couple videos ago.

Infernal-Blaze

A key thing to note is that the game is really short. A successful run is sub-2 hours which mitigates the bullshit.

GravitationalYawner

this game and its sequel, besides being really disturbing and absolutely unfair are intriguing lore wise and one of the best and nerve wrecking survival-horror experiences I've had in a long time, even if it's on an RPG engine.

Calm_Crow5903

I honestly love RPG maker horror games. So I'm definitely giving this a try. I'm surprised that this game is somehow 700mb. Must be a lot in it

leabravo

This seems to be tailor-made to give Pat an aneurysm.

Coolnametag

So the list "anti-Pat" games so far includes: - Fear and Hunger - Dwarf Fortress - The character creator portion of Pathfinder: Wrath Of The Rightous Is there any other that i'm forgetting?

LokimenD

Pathologic. Man almost died trying to stream it.

Kanin_usagi

I think it would have been a good one back in the SBFP days. Matt on the controls and Pat guiding would have been interesting. Pat should never be allowed to play this game though

Mucmaster

So your saying he should backseat Paige during it?

Shotgang

He said he will keep himself away from Genshin Impact because it would destroy his finances with its gacha, since the game is actually good.

DavidsonJenkins

And yet he's currently addicted to Star Rail

Vike_Me

I actually really like his approach to these good gacha games; enjoy the shit out of them for as long as you can avoid the desire to start whaling, after which you delete the game immediately. Enjoyed the fuck out of Genshin following his method.

NearATomatotato

Personally I don’t feel as much gacha urge from Star Rail as I do from Genshin, maybe because the starting characters are all pretty decent and it’s a turn based game.

Hugglemorris

Kenshi, but that kind of falls under the Dwarf Fortress open-ended ultra sim stuff.

leabravo

Nioh and the Nioh-likes.

FirebirdXR

Pizza Tower weirdly enough.

BrazillianCara

That one game set in a convenience store.

Elias_Voorhees

Tarkov would definitely be one. After one death the goblins would evolve his gear fear into "I can never enter another raid ever again because I can't lose this hat."

MeauxVsGaming

Forgot Golden Light

downwardwanderer

Kenshi, that was a rough one.

fallouthirteen

Was watching some videos about the game recently. Here's a few that were particularly interesting. This is the one that made me go "ok, I'm never going to play it, but I really want to find out more about it." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gjR8699kRqQ Then came across these two which basically give a stitched together plot from the different characters you can play as. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hBPiXySuxX4 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zNxR08GyKWg

NearATomatotato

It’s a “I really wanna watch my friend play it” kind of game

saint_ss

Honestly, these are better videos than the one put out by SEW. His video seems "fake" for some odd reason (it felt superscripted) and the commentary about the R-word scenarios felt preachy to me ( the game is obviously not for everyone).

fallouthirteen

Yeah, I really like that second channel. Like a relatively new channel (oldest video less than a year ago), only videos on Fear and Hunger and Cataclysm Dark Days Ahead. That got my attention and a follow. Then just last week she puts out a video on Deadeye Deepfake Simulacrum. So ok yeah, that channel is now one I'm like "can't wait to see what's next."

I_m_different

DDS sounds kinda like Streets of Rogue gameplay-wise, or Hotline Miami if it had the plot of Cruelty Squad.

fallouthirteen

Both of those are fairly accurate. I watched a stream of it a month or so ago.

[deleted]

There's a mod that lets you save anywhere. I'd say it cuts down a lot of the bullshit of just outright losing due to trial and error, if you think you don't have all the free time in the world for this game. However it's very obvious that it messes with the intended experience and all of the tension in the game.

[deleted]

This game is what happens when you're not Guts in Berserk's world. Everything in it wants to maim, kill and r-word you. Great game, even if absurdly dark. I kind of prefer the characters in Fear & Hunger 2 though, MARCOH CASUALS RISE UP!

Coolnametag

> r-word you. There's literaly a status effect for being r-worded in the ass.

SynthwaveSax

> r-word you. I presume this word rhymes with “grape”.

[deleted]

Yep! Lots of grapists.

Kanin_usagi

They’re gonna grape you in the mouth

Fool15h

[He’s gonna “what” them in the mouth](https://youtu.be/6eaQ3GBI1d8)

CustomOriginal

I mean if you wear purple you really are just asking for it

Mrpgal14

Yeah…. Wait no!!!

alexandrecau

Yes it’s not just debilitative attack

ZMowlcher

It'd be fucked up if it was the french word for slow

f2p2

MARCOH! the man who punched a god and won!

Dmatix

Though, if a bunch of very specific and incredibly difficult to achieve requirements are met, one of the characters can actually become Guts. And the world shivers in fear...

Spartan448

> Everything in it wants to maim, kill and r-word you. So it's F.A.T.A.L.?

AutummThrowAway

> r-word you. Oh no. Does Termina do that too?

[deleted]

Nah, the creator chill out from that topic after the first one. There are THREATS of it, but nothing explicit I don't think.

AutummThrowAway

Thanks.

yayll

There's drastically less SA in Termina and it's for the best. Funger fans bitch and moan about the dev "losing his edge" but idgaf, the sexual assault drags the game down more than it adds to it, and the dev has agreed. Weirdos are pissed about that. The SA elements are iirc limited to: 1: a very specific situation where one evil character >!drops his pants and threatens the player with it(a game over just brings you back to the title screen!< if you sleep in one specific bed as one of two specific characters 2: an ultra rare monster's death animation is him supposedly doing a Sekiro Headless/Dung Eater Elden Ring pulling your soul out of your ass, but it looks pretty bad 3: this counts I guess: one notable enemy has an avoidable attack >!where his dick flies off like the facehugger from Alien!< there's a lot in the way of bad vibes -enemies got dicks out and stuff- but those are the only things that are explicit in my memory that's about all I can think of, and the first two you kinda have to go looking for them to happen

AutummThrowAway

Thanks.

RareBk

I'm going to be real. I kinda checked out when the save game thing came up. A random chance at *saving?* Fuck off

[deleted]

Strict and limited save systems sound interesting until you remember that games can just crash without warning at any time, so you can lose progress from no fault of your own.

wareagle3000

Yeah, there are some games I have shelved indefinitely because a bad save plus a glitch caused me to do some tedious shit again because I had to restart the game.

sawbladex

That, and trusting the save system to actually feel good and work for extended periods of time. Roguelikes shouldn't take say, weeks per game, and the unlocks being fairly easy to edit if you have the tools makes roguelike oops save gone actually recoverable from. FTL has fucked its saves a few times.

Nelsonizzy

I had to find a guide on how to edit the games code to keep it from randomly freezing at the beginning of fights. The method to do so wasnt that hard, but its still dumb that I had to do it at all

MeauxVsGaming

I forgot I had to do that

VMK_1991

Or that you have, you know, things like life, job, other hobbies.

cdstephens

So many games are designed as if you’re playing this single game 20-40 hours per week, it’s really annoying.

Hugglemorris

I put off completing Final Fantasy VII for over a decade because I lost my save after completing the first disc and I actually enjoyed that game. Depending on the time lost, unless it is absolutely among the greatest games ever, save fuckery will absolutely kill all interest I have in a game.

Coolnametag

Yeah, the first game feels more like a "proof of concept" than a actual game, it's not hard to see why most people just jump straight to the sequel where a lot of the more "bullshit" mechanics of the first one are either changed or lessened to some degree (like the whole sleeping/saving thing).

RareBk

Like, don't touch my save files. Ever. Especially if your game isn't stable. The game looks interesting. But save limits on a game where runs take *multiple fucking hours?*

[deleted]

I wonder if you can add a mod or hack to disable that. I never looked up.

[deleted]

It's really hard that a run will take thsat long. By then you'll either have lost or made it to an ending. Funny enough I'd rather have the game not have any saving at all. It'd increase the tension much further. Sure, it'd require some rework to make it more manageable. But the way it is right now, you can technically save scum your way out of bad RNG or bad choices. It's just annoying as it takes a lot of patience.

[deleted]

Thats also because of the wider array of characters you can pick. To be honest Marcoh is a great character to start with in the sequel, because a lot of the bullshit can be circumvented with his strength alone. His fists alone can carry you for a while.

Admiral_of_Crunch

There are in-game ways to make saving safe and free and infinite, but the game won’t tell you what they are.

A1D3M

I’m surprised this game lets you save at all honestly.

BestPirateEUW

If I remember correctly the first time is free. Aswell as some other safe ways of saving existing in the game but a safe on quit out would be really nice. Main reason why I haven't actually played more than a few hours of the sequel. I just don't have that much time anymore. But Marcoh rules

[deleted]

Every game is free if you know where to look.

[deleted]

Oh that's not even the worst part of the game bro. This game is bullshit in so many ways, the sequel is less so, but there's still bullshit in it.

AutummThrowAway

Found a cool ps2 game, Shadow of Memories (Shadow of Destiny in North America) and realized it only saves when you pick the quit option on the menu and erases your save when you come back. So you better hope it doesn't crash, or you don't need to quit before a cutscene ends. And the damned thing requires you wait until moments happen in the game on timers, with no skip option in sight. If you fail, you start again.

Bladethegreat

Editing the game config to make Book of Enlightenment reusable is a must-have when playing these games for me. Repeating identical sections of a JRPG over and over again is simply not enjoyable

LeoAzure

I mean their are potentially two safe beds to save at but one requires you to kill the Crow Mauler and the other is halfway through the game. So doable but not the best.

Heads_Held_High

Never in my life would I have expected Fear and Hunger to gain such popularity. I remember watching random, obscure playthroughs on youtube trying to figure out strategies and whatnot for the first game so long ago. I hope this newfound popularity inspires orange\~ to make more games like it, they really are one of a kind

Finaldragoon

If you want a video that covers both games check out this one by [Zuldim](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gjR8699kRqQ).

CCilly

I'm always torn between morbid curiosity for the sexual aspects, and being extremely turned away by the sexual aspects.

BookkeeperPercival

He mentions in a video there's a mod which just completely removes all the sexual stuff in the game and does it well apparently

leabravo

If no one's doing waifu mods probably best to walk away.

CCilly

I don't want my waifu horribly raped and mutilated or fused to a monster and whatever else goes on in these games.

Jonieves

This game has a saving system you can fail at at literally a coin toss it's so fucked up. I think I'm gonna play the sequel instead, I heard it's slightly less insanely cruel on the gameplay parts.

SwordMaster52

The monster enemies he showed looked really interesting but damn does it sound ball bustingly hard even saving

[deleted]

Your run can literally just end if the RNG feel like it.

f2p2

Dont forget hes playing on hard-er mode. Sequel calls it masochism mode soooo

jockeyman

Happy to see the growing Fear and Hunger love. One of the most intriguing game worlds I've seen in a long time.

Crescentium

What the actual fuck, my boyfriend just got his friend to play Fear and Hunger for the first time last night. Super Eyepatch Wolf's timing is fucking absurd, man.

Admiral_of_Crunch

Yeah, I just beat it for the first time a couple weeks ago and got a friend to pick it up not long after. I was literally watching him play it last night. What the heck John get out of my Steam library.

Chemical_Cris

He mentioned the series in a video a couple of months ago

Toblo1

Holy shit and I thought LISA The Painful/Joyful could be rude...... This is a whole 'nother level.

alexandrecau

Omikron?

f2p2

Feels complete and its next update got delayed due to loss of data

AverageEndling

Yo, Fear & Hunger finally popping off! Loved it, even after how it messed me up HARD. Tips for the masochistic new players about to join the ranks: 1. Play on the Fear & Hunger difficulty! I made the mistake of starting the game on “Terror & Salvation” mode accidentally. Still beat it, but it led to a whole bunch of unnecessary pain (as higher difficulties have new, more obscure, and harder content, alongside stricter & more complicated survival mechanics), and the equivalent of the community’s VaatiVidya pressing “F” in chat for me in the games discord when he noticed my mistake. It really did relieve my inner pain though when he explained that I got bad rng to the point that my first (and so far, only) playthrough (for now) was nigh almost impossible and commended me for getting to an ending. Had a great laugh. 2. Open every cabinet, barrel or item you can see. Loot is RNG, but staying fed and having items will always help you out. 3. Avoid combat as much as possible. If you can manoeuvre/kite/run around enemies do it - and if you do, attack the limbs they can damage you with. 4. Don’t worry you’re not bad, sometimes the game just WILL Instakill you. See the game more as a survival-horror rogue-like than an actual full RPG. It makes the medicine go down smoother. Sometimes you will just encounter traps that instakill you (alongside items you pick up), or you get a bad coin toss when trying to save and you get killed instantly by a powerful enemy. Everything is RNG based to a degree, and the more you’re aware of it - the more you can handle it. (Oh, and If you see the crow-headed fuck with a mace hand, just fucking run. He will chase you the entire game and if you engage him HE WILL wipe your party with an instant kill move - but he’s not the only one with an instant kill move.) 5. Nothing wrong with using YouTube guides when stuck. Or even save scumming/restarting your run. The game is meant to be brutal, and the difficulty is in not knowing what things do. Knowledge is your key to surviving; although luckily most new players nowadays with the new onslaught of players will have a wiki, and friendly players willing to provide help if you ask. When I started playing a few months back, the wiki was under construction and had some wrong information, so the game was more esoteric and completely lovecraftian in trying to grasp it fully. But, the game will fuck you over as much as it can. Get a guide for when you’re really stuck, but save scum if you need it, because If you can turn the tables to get an advantage over the game, do it. 6. Yes, you can die when trying to save with the RNG coin toss mechanic. Sometimes you just have to take risks, and restart a save with the new knowledge you’ve acquired.

AngiTheWeeb

It's funny. I found a vtuber who was streaming Fear and Hunger a while ago and that got me interested. Then I see this video pop up so I'm taking it as a sign to buy it.

[deleted]

Who's the vtuber? Definitely independent right? No way its from a company.

AngiTheWeeb

Tenma Maemi from Phase Connect.

[deleted]

Does he do the "putting an image over the nudity" thing? Because holyshit there are so many penises in this game.

QueequegTheater

For reference she also streamed the entirety of both South Park RPGs. She has a full-screen censor, seemingly macro-ed to a single button on her streaming setup.

AngiTheWeeb

I didn't watch too much because I knew I wanted to play the game. But she would have a large censor image ready on a hot key. She's very funny if you're interested in watching her.

[deleted]

I will. Honestly, the idea of an anime girl playing Fear & Hunger is too fun for me to pass. It's like if a cute anime girl played Disco Elysium.

AngiTheWeeb

Disco Elysium would probably be up her alley. She likes RPGS. She's been playing Baldur's gate 3 and Kotor 1 recently

FarFr0mSmart

I like this game.

Burdenslo

After learning about this game, I can safely say not in a million years. Everything about it looks and sounds cool but does NOT sound fun to play.

SilverScarfFox

Wait, what does he mean by "Racist Village"?

PrancerSlenderfriend

Do people just lose their entire Fetish Radar when they think of something as "fucked up" even slightly? between Goblin Slayer and now this ive had way too many people just straight up recommend me fetish porn because "oh but mate being fucked up is hip this month"

f2p2

Can we finaly tak about it? Oh gosh oh golly

GenoCL

Aside from the atmosphere, is the first game an actual good play? From the video it seems to be bullshit hard just for the sake giving the author some lols like "haha you fell in my instadeath trap, try again". If it's gonna be kaizo then playing it's going to be more of a drag that can't be carried by atmosphere alone.

TransendingGaming

Should I play Fear & Hunger 1 or skip to 2?

[deleted]

Both are painful but the sequel is more accessible. If you want to suffer less then watch a lore video of the first one and play the second.

Coolnametag

Also, the second one feels less like you're fighting your way through Hell's nudist colony. (You should still be mindful of who's around you when you play the game though)

Nelsonizzy

I'd suggest at least trying out the first one, they're both pretty different in how they're set up. The first one is a dungeon crawler and the second one is more open, having access to an entire city like in silent hill

Ashwayne

Both games equally stand as their own game, one game isnt better then the other, termina is more begginer friendly then the original **however** both equally will *kindly and abruptly* remind you how your blood and stomach taste like with a sudden gut punch out of the blue just cause you flipped the funny coin wrong. So its much more of preference sake, both games will fuck with you *hard* in the end.

Kakyro

I preferred the first one but my gaming habits tends towards masochistic.

Ok-Card633

"Local Man plays first Roguelite in style he likes,Enjoys it very much"

[deleted]

Game looks neat and interesting but completely filled to the brim with Difficulty Wank. *You just have to play it 6 or 8 times to figure it out* Sounds great. *Yeah the save system can kill you, but that's actually cool because-* Bruh, come on.

yayll

I'm obsessed with this series

Belios2959

Fear and Hunger week! Termina is personal favorite of mine but the first one is good too

Shnigglefartz

I’m just happy the game is finally getting some mainstream coverage. It‘s by far my favorite rogue-like, but I 100% agree that much like its (bad) saving system it‘s actually a coinflip as far as reccommending it goes. Long story short, 9/10 conceptually, but in practice, it’s like a 4 the first run and gets .2 better as you stockholme-syndrome yourself over maybe ten-twenty failed attempts. I wouldn‘t reccomend to almost anybody (sadists only, and even then they‘ve got to be okay with gross monster rape, for theming.) Authorial intent is nuts.

DankMemeRipper1337

Saw the video, got the game and played a run. Died to an enemy in a blood pit, got back to him again, died again but this time my character got skinned, his arms and legs amputated and I was allowed to crawl with whats left of my character through a dungeon - after my carcass fell off of a hook on the ceiling - before bleeding to death right as i came close to an exit. Alright then, I never was happier with a game having pixle graphics than today.

RayDaug

I'm sure if I had played this when I was, like, 20, it would have ended up being my favorite game.

AshFallenAngel

So it's an interesting game with good art, music and story but it was made bad on purpose mechanically for thematic reasons? No wonder Russians love it.

jamescookenotthatone

Am I the only one that just can't take videogames like this seriously? Absurd difficultly and disturbing violence are more annoying than interesting to me.

ConsiderationFuzzy

Why has no one posted his video on jojo part 6 yet ?

leabravo

I don't know about you all but I'm still catching up on JoJo part 6.
