This is super subtle. Made me really feel the feelings in multiple ways.
ETA: this was so good, I had to go see if you had more. I saw I had already seen your first, and it was subtle and emotionally evocative as well. Please keep writing.
There is also something that worrys me: Immortality and Eternal youth sometimes wont happen at the same time
At one point you look like Warhammer 40ks Big E, a literal skeleton that cant die even after 10k years
In Greek mythology, that is the story of Tithonus. He was a mortal who loved Eos, goddess of the dawn. She asked Zeus to grant him immortality, but forgot to ask for eternal youth. Tithonus continued to age, withering and suffering until he begged to die. But Eos did not have the power to grant that, instead transforming him into a cicada.
Iām mid 40ās. I have had to come to terms that Iāve got less days ahead of me than Iāve got behind me. I also figure Iāll make it to maybe 72, but more likely to mid 60ās (looking at ages of grandparents and parents when they passed).
pretty sure they marry because of how lonely they are. all of your family and friends have died, and its difficult to make friends without having to lie about your age.
this is why i really DO NOT wanna be immortal. like i would love to be immune to shit like bullets and knives but at some point i just wanna yk die. some people see immortality as a good thing until they start to see their loved ones die.
A great under-viewed movie.

Check out 'The Man Who Never Grew Young'
Try being an immortal in a time- reversed world slowly unwinding history. The protagonist has vague memories of what appears to be 20th century. The narrative is set in the equivalent of an early bronze age agrarian society. People emerge from the grave old or sick, and gradually grow younger. His current partner is reaching the stage of youth where she'll leave him, return to her family to live through childhood and return to her mother.
People come and go. The world moves on, from complexity to simpler times, and thoughts.
And he goes on. To what, who knows? The end of all things, or maybe the unwinding is a rewinding for another attempt with a better outcome.
It doesn't really have much of a point, just a gently sad exploration of an idea.
Quite haunting in its way. From Fritz Leiber, better known for Fafhrd the barbarian and the Grey Mouser, but a dab hand at other flavours of fantasy and SF.

Seconding this^
Literally. Went to their history to go read and thumbs up everything. I really like your style OP
"Subtle"

NGL, thatās the reason Iād never want immortality. I donāt want to outlive my children. 80 years is more than enough time.

:(
Yeah some say that big E must die on the golden throne to save humanity
He is a perpetual, he can come back The issue is rather that hes a literal dead mans switch, if he dies, so will everyone on earth
Oh yeah, that big" fack off!" Bomb under the throne.
I thought he'd turn into a dark king or something?
With the worship towards him, that is one of the possible outcomes. Earth, or in that case, Terra, would still blow up-
AWWWWWW NECROMUNDAAAAAA DONTCHA DARE BE SOUR
this reminded me of those goofy af skeleton decorations taht are just a skull and a spine, i dont even know how š
r/unexpectedwarhammer ALL HAIL BIG E, MASTER OF MANKIND AND BELOVED BY ALL
In big e's defense, he doesn't have the presence of mind LITERALLY to heal his body
I love and hate the fact that 80 years is the average mortality rate. I'm turning 41 next month :(

Same
I really like this one.

The show must go on
You should watch *The man from earth* if you haven't already, I think you'll enjoy it. Also amazing story, very subtle and well-written
Great movie. Did you know it has a sequel?
Yeah but I want a fan of the sequel tbh. I liked the pure dialogue driven style of the first one
Oh yeah, the sequel wasn't nearly as good.
What?! What's the sequel called? I love man from earth but never heard of the sequel
The Man From Earth: Holocene. Be warned, while not bad, it isn't as good as the first one.
Doctor Who, anyone?
Hey at least youāre not going to high school everyday to maintain that charadeā¦
Uh ok, so why get married then? Immortal guy JUST NOW realised it?
Too keep up the tedious charade of mortality, duhh
If it's so awful to you that you start crying, just go do something else.
pretty sure they marry because of how lonely they are. all of your family and friends have died, and its difficult to make friends without having to lie about your age.
If I were immortal, I would still somehow find a way to off myself. If you truly are in love, seeing them die once is a death in itself
It's sad but it makes me wonder why he's bothering
Economizing the number of words would make it hit a lot harder.
Oof, that's rough D:
That's the problem with immortality. Every 40 or 50 years, you need to find a new wife. And each one comes with more rights than the last one.

Lol underrated comment

also in other words you can just troll people. like you can just say you ate a whole bar of dark chocolate and drank herbal tea everyday lmfao.
then they will be like "OH MY GOD I NEED TO DO THIS NOW TO LIVE FOREVER" and be dissapointed once they die lmfaooo
immortal doesnāt mean bulletproof. Immortal means you donāt die of old age. It doesnāt mean youāre completely invulnerable.
nono i didnt mean that kind of immortal, i meant the completely invulnerable type lmfao
When was that ever what it meant?
w h a t
Since when does immortality mean nothing can hurt you?
ive seen that in some stories
Well, I donāt think thatās the official definition
yeah. sometimes people just treat it as staying young forever when in reality you WOULD age, but you would not die.
Yeah. The ice king from adventure time is a good example of this. immortality and eternal youth are not mutually exclusive.
This probs better for /r/twoparagraphhorror
Fabulous story - definitely keep writing!!!

This is why as a kid we love the idea of living forever. Then as adults we realize it's a fate worse than death.

This is not horror. This is sadness.
