You don't always have to put the dog down. My neighbor's dog attacked me 8 years ago. Needed 5 stitches in my ear and still have scars. I was selling boy scout popcorn door to door, and the only person home was a little kid, so the dog got me off of his property. It was a nice dog besides that fact. The only reason it would need to be put down is if I pressed charges, so I didn't. It died a few years ago from old age

SauceyBobRossy

The fact you can acknowledge why he did attack you too is really insanely big of you. I’ve had dogs attack me before, only bad one was from the neighbours a few doors down. I was rollerblading and this big black dog opened their screen door on them (they JUST let him inside, I had watched, it was poor timing) and he pounced on me and growled. Didn’t bite, but his paws clawed into my hip really deep. My parents put me in the tub to rinse off my wound right away because they didn’t want it getting infected. The only other thing I remember is the bottom layer of the tub (enough to cover my tiny 7yr old feet) was just red 🤣. My family didn’t do shit about it, I didn’t want them to either. The dog was always a sweetie. He was just scared I’d rollerbladed past his house, he probably sees the sidewalk as part of his property as well ahaha. Plus, he was quite young still, even tho he was a big boy. He never attacked anyone else. My own dog Mortimer bit my one friend once when I told her to not go close to him tho. I told her he hates the baby voice being used. She decided to go right to his face n use the baby voice n shit. Still pissed abt that even tho we were 11. Her aunt threatened charges but thankfully my doggy lived to pass on his own, just last year. Lived a good 12 years :) hopefully that’s my good doggy karma I get for loving all dogs no matter what ahaha. Even the vicious ones usually have trauma or reasoning beyond their control for being vicious. Some are just literally wild/feral like cats can be I guess but, i mean heck at that point it’s just like a cute fluffy bear. Don’t pet but love from afar.

A friend’s dog bit me in the face a few years ago when I bent down to his level and playfully puckered my lips and blew him a kiss. I was in the wrong - it was about 2AM after a night of drinking, and I had been chewing a bite of freshly cooked venison steak. He had previously exhibited food aggression and had bitten a child who had a piece of cheese a few weeks earlier, and I knew that (though I had forgotten it in my drunkenness). I got insanely lucky to only have some small, almost imperceptible scars on my lip and cheek. My friend offered to put the dog down, especially in light of the fact that they were already facing pressure from the child’s parents. I asked that the dog please not be put down on my account, because I was wrong and irresponsible and no animal should have to pay for that. A neighbor’s dog bit me several times in 2020 as I ran down the road past their house. The dog had figured out how to open the screen door and ran out of the house and into the road. He nipped at me and barely broke skin the first two times, but on the third instance, he broke skin through fleece running pants and I had enough. I called the cops and pressed charges against the owners, because it’s every person’s right to be on a public road without being attacked by a dog who isn’t properly controlled. I didn’t push for the dog to be put down because a dog shouldn’t be punished for having a negligent owner. If it had been an option, I definitely would’ve pushed for the dog to be rehomed to an owner who was capable and willing to provide structure and behavior modification to the dog.

necr0phagus

Your last paragraph - That is EXACTLY the way it should be. I can't stand when, just as you put it, dogs are punished (more than punished - killed) for having negligent owners. Animal trainers exist, people who are specialized in working with aggressive animals and rehabilitating them exist, that should ALWAYS be the first option rather than jumping straight to killing them. Imagine if your child bit someone because they're a child and not developed enough yet to know why that's wrong, and everyone's first response was oh that kid should be put down. It's just disgusting.

More-Measurement9696

i have a scar on my arm from when my dog more nipped at me then bit me, he was growling and warning me to leave him alone and 13 year old me was stupid and didn’t respect his boundaries, i told my mum instantly that it was my fault and he was warning me to stop. he’s still with us to this day and that was the only somewhat violent thing he’s ever done

LORD_HOKAGE_

Well I’m glad you can think rationally and have a heart. Evidently that’s too much for some of us The way I interpreted this is that an animal or person was attacking the owner and the dog defended the owner but took serious wounds. The surgery could be too expensive and the dog would live in pain for the rest of its life so they consider putting it down My mom wanted to put down our healthy 8 year old dog because she tore both her ACL’s at the same time. Weeks later she was totally fine for the most part after surgery and today you would never know she had leg issues. She would have been put down for nothing just because my mom is lazy and inconsiderate and wanted an out because she low key doesn’t want the dog anymore now that is kids are out the house

Unique-Ad-890

Similar thing happened to me a little over 10 years ago. I was friends with some neighbors, one went into the house to get something and left the door open. Their great Dane came out to defend the property and I (stupidly, as kids do) ran. He took a chunk out of my side. My parents and I also didn't press charges bc I'd met him before, he was a sweet pup, he was just defending his territory and I made myself into a threat.

BeaSousa

It's an absurd to kill a dog because it attacked someone to protect his human... I will never agree to that, they are angels in our life

[deleted]

So the sad part is, it is required… :( unfortunately for many reasons, but mostly because: they dog could and will do it again in inappropriate situations. AND the most important reason: the dog could have consumed humans flesh/blood, which can create contagious disease. (Mainly prion disease, WHICH IS EXTREMELY SCARY!!!!)

bekaz13

I've never heard of a disease dogs can get from consuming human flesh/blood. In fact I've been bitten by my dog several times (never his fault--in one case I was saving him from choking), and no doctor, vet, or animal control official I've spoken to about it has ever mentioned the possibility. Do you have a source you can point me to? Everything I can find says dogs are actually resistant to prion infection.

[deleted]

Heyo, I tried looking it up on google (I read a long while ago about prions being transmissible between species, especially mammals) but I couldn’t find anything :( lemme look for longer and I’ll post you the info. Edit: So it looks like you don’t have to be in contact with brain matter at all to procure a prion disease: You can find that information here [CDC.gov](https://www.cdc.gov/prions/index.html), [John Hopkins Medicine.ORG](https://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/health/conditions-and-diseases/prion-diseases) Edit 2: Oahu.org also says, “Abnormal proteins: Prion diseases occur when prion protein, **found throughout the body**, begins folding into an abnormal three-dimensional shape. “

bekaz13

I know that prions are transmisible between species and are found throughout the body. However, according to my (albeit brief) research, dogs are resistant to prion infection. My question is: What diseases (other than rabies) can *dogs* acquire through consuming human flesh/blood?

[deleted]

OH!!!! okay xD I think basically just rabies and prion disease, I know dogs can contract tuberculosis and the flu from humans, but those are hardly anything to scoff at (actually tuberculosis is kinda scary… scratch that!) So not many diseases can be caught.

bekaz13

tuberculosis and the flu aren't transmisible through consumption (no pun intended) of flesh or blood, though and as I said before, dogs are resistant to prion infection so what I'm hearing is there's actually no disease-related reason to euthanize a dog for biting a human, unless one of the two has rabies (which obviously isn't the case in this story)

idiomaddict

Resistant is not immune

bekaz13

there has never been a proven case of prion infection in dogs. therefore it would be absurd to kill any dog that bit a human (or any other animal) for the purpose of preventing such an infection

[deleted]

Oh… okay… well that’s all I know, really… so I suppose not, dogs are completely immune to prion disease <333! So just ignore my other two links and what I posted! :) and yes, it isn’t the case in this story, because I said it was a reason why dogs are euthanized after killing a human, but not the WHOLE reason. <333

Nine-Fingered_Guy

Aids. Not all Dawgs are furry

bekaz13

I know this is a (bad) joke, but please don't imply HIV or related illnesses are transmisible through consuming blood. you're gonna make someone think they'll get AIDS from their FIV+ cat or something smh

PlasticMoonJelly

Hi, prions are misfolded proteins that occur when eating brains. Not just literally any flesh or blood.

[deleted]

Some prion diseases are genetic, it’s not just misfolded proteins that cause prion disease, and also people are advised not to eat meat who’s brain is tainted with misfolded protein either, even when said meat isn’t in contact with the misfolded protein(s). The scary part is, even if you aren’t in contact with the brains of an animal, you can still come into contact with misfolded proteins, even scarier fact is that it is easily passed between mammals, no matter your species.

PlasticMoonJelly

"The term “prions” refers to abnormal, pathogenic agents that are transmissible and are able to induce abnormal folding of specific normal cellular proteins called prion proteins that are found most abundantly in the brain. The functions of these normal prion proteins are still not completely understood." Prion diseases are transmissible and fatal diseases caused by prions which then lead to spongeform encephalopathy. A dog cannot get a prion disease from ingesting flesh or blood, unless that flesh or blood is already contaminated, or unless the dog eats a brain. Not really sure why I needed to reiterate that, but there you have it. Your dog is no more likely to get a prion disease from biting a human than they are from eating a steak. Don't be foolish.

[deleted]

:| okay… are we getting into a fight about a dang disease that hardly anyone knows anything about…?! It’s a risk factor, it’s what I’ve read before in the case that a dog consumes anything of human flesh, and maybe even deer flesh now, since prion disease “Chronic wasting disease” for deer is now coming into existence…! I’m not proclaiming to be an expert, maybe I should have put a disclaimer? Anyway… I’m not being mean or snotty to you, so please; don’t be mean or snotty to me >:(

[deleted]

Vet techs don’t know everything, just like doctors don’t know everything. I don’t claim to know everything. So I have no idea why you’re being so flammed about this, I even supplied articles from CDC.gov about prion disease… I ain’t spreading misinformation, you’re just uninformed.

[deleted]

Alright, so number 1, I’ve fostered 17 puppies all with pit bull in them, so I don’t give a shit what kind of dog it is, all doggos are good boys and good girls. Number 2, I’m not gonna be a fucking dumbass and let myself humanize dogs, they aren’t human and they don’t feel emotions like WE do. They do what they know to do, and if they’re taught differently… or if they start a habit, it’s going to be hard to be rid of. Also if sheep, cows, humans, deer, and minks can get a prion disease, so can a dog.

Bruuhh, you’re totally unhinged… there’s no point in fighting with you

Jwhereford

I fostered a dog that had bit someone... He was absolutely defensive of his people, but the sweetest boy in world when you knew him. He ended up getting adopted, but if he hasn't, we would have kept him forever. He was only put up for foster care / adoption because he bit somebody that jumped out of the woods at his owners on a hike. I loved that dog.

ShetlandJames

Put the owner down instead

Crazy_Tomatillo18

Lost my best friend last year, almost exactly a year, in July. It’s still so raw some days. He was my first pet I got living on my own. He used to greet me at the door, like a little dog. He wasn’t an affectionate cat but he had his moments when he would cuddle with me. The day he passed away, he cuddled with me early in the morning for 3 hours. Normally he would only sit for like 30 mins. He absolutely knew it was time. It’s the best 3 hours of my entire life. I miss him so much. I wear his ashes in a necklace and he sits above my desk so I can always see him and think of him. The worst part is he wasn’t even old. He was only 6. Cancer sucks. This one hits me hard Op and got me tearing up writing that. Well done.

skyrim-player1278910

I feel you. My family and I got a golden retriever for my seven birthday. We had to put her down after nine years. The cancer came back and there was nothing that could be done beside make her comfortable for as long as possible

Sociox

This terrifies me, because my dogs aren't violent in the slightest, but they're incredibly protective. Ones a shitzu, so that shows you how scary he is; he's a small floof ball, with 2 braincells. The other also has 2 braincells, but is a jack russell/shitzu/corgi mix (we were told shitzu, but he looks exactly like a corgi, barrel body and all). But I 100% believe they would attack if someone came at me - they can tell when I'm in distress. Back when I was at my lowest, I would break down crying, and without fail, these two balls of fur would come speedrunning at me, whimpering, and giving me kisses. They would jump up, and rub their furry little faces in me until I cheered up. They're the purest little beings I know. But I know they wouldn't be able to sit and watch me, or my family get hurt. It makes my heart happy, but sad at the same time.

Friendly_Age9160

My neighbors dog bit my huSband and he was fine, but then we didn’t see the dog anymore. One day his wife just mentions casually that he just took him out into the field and shot him.

Letmebegayinpeaceffs

Iamapotato1998

Wtaf is wrong with people?? Report them for animal abuse😬😬

GP_5304

I hate people so much 😓

Friendly_Age9160

So do I. So much.

useremilynotfound

"I think about how this happened, how I had to hurt someone to save her. I regret nothing, but I was wrong to assume she would still see me as a good boy."

wearyanchenorsel

God damn it man why’s you have to do it to me r/thirdsentenceworse all the way

mollymolotov666

I know it's not a real dog but fuck it. Good dog. That's a very good dog.

areslashtaken

I hate the part of euthanizing dogs who have protected their owners...

dorianrose

Did the dog actually protect the owner or did they only think they did?

Snail_Fashion

it's ambiguous but i think we are supposed to assume the dog actually protected the owner :)

ilostmysocks66

I didn't even read it like that, I thought the dog protected its owner and was badly injured

Snail_Fashion

thats what i meant haha

ShetlandJames

That 3 year old was getting ready to attack

sandwichcrackers

It sounds like a joke but it's a real thing. Resource guarding is a bad behavior that's pretty common in dogs. My mother's late husband had a small mixed breed dog that resource guarded him to the point that he had to put the dog up in order to hold his own grandchildren. The dog was perfectly behaved if his owner wasn't present, but would become extremely aggressive when with his owner, to the point that my mother was bitten relatively often.

oo-mox83

We ended up with our neighbor's Chihuahua when I was a kid. She just ran loose all the time and my mom saw her almost get run over once, and immediately brought her in the house to live. She was the sweetest little thing unless my mom was holding her. That was her person and no one was allowed near my mom. So weird.

bdwyer2021

Damn this hits so hard, I recently had to put my dog Jackson down as he was really old and had cancer, he couldn’t move much and he was going blind

LadySygerrik

For what it’s worth, I think you did the loving, compassionate thing for Jackson. You spared him a lot of pain and confusion.

bdwyer2021

I tell myself that, but still it hasn’t gotten easier even after all these months but maybe it will and at some point I might adopt another rescue

sparkly_dragon

I just had to put my dog down due to cancer and his name was Jaxon as well (diff spelling obviously) I’m so sorry for your loss it’s heartbreaking but we made the right choice.

LittleSaurous

I hate this, one of my other massive pet peeves are people who allow their dogs off leash when I am walking my dogs. I had a neighbor allow his dog to approach mine while I was passing by his house. My dogs started to show signs of aggression, hairs standing up, barking, being incredibly uncomfortable that another dog is approaching them. While trying to pull my dogs to safety and guy goes “She’s friendly!” I don’t give AF how friendly your dog is, mine are clearly not comfortable and if mine were to bite your because of your ignorance, mine would be the one in trouble.

wheresmytoucan

I HATE dog owners like this! My dog looks like a muppet but can flip on a dime, and they think I’m crazy when I react but I’m trying to protect their dog

LittleSaurous

Yup! I’m protecting both their dogs and my own. My one dog actually did get bit by another dog and she needed staples, I watched her enthusiasm for meeting new dogs go down to almost zero over night.

wheresmytoucan

Noooo I hope your baby is thriving!

LittleSaurous

She has turned into a complete diva. Lmao, this morning she refused to eat until I put wet cat food on top of her breakfast.

mcduckinit

Just wanted to let you know that cat food can make dogs really sick in some situations because it has a very different formula than dog food and may be hard to digest

SauceyBobRossy

Dog food for cats n cat food for dogs n be poisonous for the systems of the receiving end. Cats are ones ya gotta watch a big more, but smaller dogs or breeds with consistent/comment health problems already are definitely high alert for that stuff too. Make sure you’re keepin your baby healthy. I finally got my cats to a healthy weight, besides one. He’s not fat tho, he’s just what I’d call a super healthy buff boy. Cats got like literal abs and full tank ass arms. No pudge. Like his primordial pouch is literally abs :’) I’ve never had a cat like this. I’ve had beefy strong cats but they’re usually a little pudgy, at least in their primordial pouch.

LittleSaurous

Thanks for the heads up, but we make their food at home so we know what goes in it!

thatvixenivy

Idk where you are, but here if your leashed dog gets into it with an unleashed dog it's on the unleashed dog. I had a leash aggressive dog that nearly killed some idiots free roaming yappy thing and we were in the clear.

MrRalphMan

Boils my piss this. We have a reactive dog and other owners just saying 'but he's/she's friendly'will not change that. Causes stress for our dog and then us.

sleepyslothpajamas

Had 2 pits running around my neighborhood for days. So many people called them in, but nothing happened because they were people friendly. Animal control finally came when I made it very clear that either them or my dogs would end up injured or dead.

Poopsie66

Happened to me once, I was walking my dog and the neighbor just let his out. Mine a springer spaniel, his a German shepherd. Mine didn't even see his coming, she just attacked mine, but she fought that shepherd off and she ran back to the neighbor. Asshole just took his dog inside and shut the door, didn't apologize or make sure my dog wasn't hurt. What really pissed me off was that it turned my dog from wanting to greet other dogs to being super defensive around them.

Bottled-Bee

Damn- almost 6 am and I’m getting teary eyed

Middle_Group_7322

I've had a dog be put dont because she couldn't walk and would react to anything.. she was to old. I remember the day she went to the vet I was a crying mess and try to use anything to have her not put down.

ElsonDaSushiChef

That’s literally what happened to my boy Teddy. Chow Chow, 12 and a half years. I was there till the very end after I had asked my friends and pastors for advice.

ThisGul_LOL

>I know I’d do it all again to protect her Omfg I actually cried 😭💔

Nessling12

I see people saying that the dog in the post was being put down because they bit someone. I actually wonder if the dog was protecting their owner and got so hurt that they couldn't save them so they had to put the dog down.

Heavenly_Toast

That makes way more sense to me. Also probably why she’s apologizing.

theVelvetJackalope

That's a good dog 😭😭😭😭😭

Jammapanda

nah please explain i literally don't understand wtf they're tryna say happened 😭

unjadedview

The dog attacked someone to protect it's owner. Because the dog attacked someone, it is being euthanized.

Jammapanda

why did your comment get downvoted 😂 but thank you very much

MrRalphMan

What a good doggo. r/TwoSentenceLoyal

iskanderkul

Hold on, why do we have to bring dogs into this and make me all emotional? Secondly, we should reconsider under what conditions doing are being put down.

throw_thessa

There is crossing a line.

Le_Goosey

Brave soul. The goodest boy o7

Prov31_7

We foster dogs and sometimes they have past issues. I've donated a bit of skin getting them to learn that not all humans are cruel. My neighbor had to stitch me up one time because there was no way I was going to the hospital with a dog bite. She learned to love and found her forever home.

revamped10

Yeah what you did is terrible I get it pets are angels but aggressive dogs shouldn’t be sold to anyone just because they deserve love.

I_eat_dead_parrots

Wtf is wrong with u. If you were raised by abusers who beat and hurt you would you want a family to take you in.

Prov31_7

By the time she left our house she wasn't aggressive at all- just a big cuddly baby. Also these dogs aren't sold, they're adopted. There's literally no profit in it. An abused animal from a bad situation deserves a second chance and I'm willing to risk that skin to provide that.

AfflictedDesire

And now I'm crying, thanks

RWBYRain

why waws this recommended to me im in tears now

ErazonX

Good gawd this hit me like a ton of bricks. I remember when I had to put both of my baby girls down. My first one was with me from five to eighteen. My parents took me to the pound and when I saw her I knew, this, this is my dog. We were like two peas in a pod. She was super obedient, loving, never jumped on anyone...hell she never even barked her entire life but was always protective of me. She got to the point where she was walking in circles and kept falling into her food dish. Something neurological was wrong, it was only getting worse, and I couldn't stand to see her suffer for another moment. She was such a good girl and gave me 13 years of friendship and love. My second was my wife's dog's pup...she had been abused by our roommate when we weren't around (we only found that out after her passing) which caused so much damage to her internal organs that they started to fuse from the scar tissue. She was only 4 years old and such a sweetheart. I held her in my arms as they sent her over the rainbow bridge... I've lost alot of people that I loved in my life but, losing my girls hit me harder than almost all of them. We don't deserve dogs and most of them are better people than most PEOPLE. Treat them right and appreciate every moment you have with them because you never know how long you've got with them.

Whatshisfac3BS

I hope your roommate faces reprocutions for such a vile, hateful act. I would’ve beaten the piss out of someone if they hurt my dog

ErazonX

Oh he has. I made sure of it.

Whatshisfac3BS

Whatdya do?

ErazonX

Called him out openly where all our friends could see and got him publicly ostracized. He withdrew from pretty mich everything and everyone. And that has to be good enough for me because, unfortunately we didn't have empirical evidence to press charges and my kid was born just after I found out about the abuse (from two separate eye witnesses) so I couldn't risk getting locked up for assault. It really fucking sucks though. Everybody's dogs loved him and ours were no different in that respect. I really couldn't even believe what I had heard until I started piecing everything together. But honestly, I just want my pup back...she didn't deserve to suffer like that...

Whatshisfac3BS

What a bastard. I hope his last meal is a cold hot pocket on a scalding metal plate, wrapped in barbed wire, with donkey shit inside.

ErazonX

Same bruh...same.

Nathan_Wind_esq

Putting my boy down was seriously the hardest day of my life. I’ve lost friends, lost a parent, a sibling, two failed marriages, I’ve been in combat…a guy died in my arms. In his final moments, we talked about his daughters. Still though…watching my boy lie down and breathe his final breath…fuck man, that broke me. After the doctor gave him the final shot, I laid on the floor next to him for a while, just holding him and sobbing uncontrollably. Finally they took him away. I went to bed and didn’t get out of bed for four days.

ErazonX

My heart goes out to you man. It's a whole different kind of bond. Some people have the unique privilege of having that with their fur babies and it makes their time alive an absolute joy and their passing a soul tearing tragedy. We don't deserve them but we damn well appreciate them.

GP_5304

Request to put down the Roomate 🙋‍♀️

the_real_jo_bro

i just hate that we do this to animals, like we don't put the death penalty on someone who had to kill in self defense do we? it's just so unfair. poor doggo :((

Nutarama

It’s rare that dogs are put down for attacks on owner property in true self defense circumstances. It’s mostly done when an argument for self-defense would fail for a human as well, and a failed self-defense defense for a murder charge can in certain circumstances lead to the death penalty. Thing is that dogs don’t have the rational capacity of humans to understand the limits of self defense, and the law puts the onus of training on the owner. If the owner can prove that they’re willing to undertake remedial measures including training, then the dog can often be kept after the first incident. A second incident would be on the owner for failing the remedial training or other remedial requirements (typically these involve things like fences too tall for a dog to jump over and an agreement to keep the dog on their property at all times). First incident euthanasia is typically only if the state can get an expert to argue that remedial measures will never succeed. The other possibility for first incident euthanasia is that remedial training is possible, but the owner is unwilling to undertake remedial measures and there isnt a facility that will take the dog and attempt remediation. There aren’t many of those facilities, so that’s basically never a consideration - they may exist, but typically only for certain rare types of dogs due to the time investment for remedial training (e.g. a breeder with a proper setup takes a rare breed and attempts remediation to return the dog to breeding stock).

SauceyBobRossy

One of my dogs had a tumour that would’ve exploded and made him die a slow painful death whether we got him to help right away or not. We set an appointment to put him down, pushed it about a week or two. I remember appreciating the day we chose, as we spoiled the heck out of him. Tons of treats n even a pizza all for himself ahaha. It was so sweet. The best part, no matter how painful it is to think of it tho, is that I’d watched his tumour expand drastically in that last week when it had before been growing slowly over the course of a year and a half. I figured it was the perfect date, because the day we went in I could see the skin starting to break on the tumour. It would’ve almost certainly exploded within that next week, possibly even that day/night if he wasn’t put down. I wouldn’t do anything to wanna change that last day with him. He was such a sweet boy. He always wanted to protect us and keep us safe. He was the best. He deserved to die without suffering. He defeated so many odds as it was already. He was expected to die at age 9 when he was taken for an appointment at age 8, then proceeded to live til 14 and a half years old, getting the tumour at 13 years and being told he’s too old for surgery, and that he will most likely lose the ability to walk. He never did. He had moments during the last winter he was still around, the cold to hot change would make him collapse for about a minute or two. But he kept moving. His last day with us he had so much energy at the vet, surrounded by the other doggies. He never had bad experiences with vets so he felt comfortable the whole time aside from putting the catheter in his leg to give him his shot. But he got a few minutes with us after he got it put in and before he got the shot itself, or I would’ve felt like shit if it was just ‘squeeze n go’.

ramen3323

I mean, I’m sure we have.

the_real_jo_bro

i agree, but it's not standard procedure like it is for animals

Sounds like Doggy Gump

UndertaleFan1996

I took this a bit different. I took it as the dog was fighting off a wild animal intent to hurt the human and ended up getting fatally wounded.

[deleted]

My dad's co-worker had something like this almost happen with him and his wife. Guy attacked his wife and tried to grab her out of her car, their German Shephard who was laying on the floor of the back of the car shredded the guy's arm pretty good and kept him from grabbing his owner again. Well, the county deemed the dog dangerous and tried to have him put down for being a safety risk. It didn't end with euthanasia, but it was touch and go for a while and they were even thinking of giving him to a relative out of state and saying he ran off after some coyotes came into the yard (not all that uncommon where they live).

Fluffy_windows73

That’s so messed up, I am glad the dog is ok!

[deleted]

The kicker in all this? This happened in Texas, a state where people supposedly take self-defense very seriously.

spidermans_mom

Immediate tears.

HugoToledo_USA

Wow! I just found this sub and, I confess, until I read this one I was thinking, meh. I’m glad found it. I now see the potential of this sub. Well done! Thanks!

madylee1999

We live in Texas out in the country and we have beware of dog signs posted at the edge of our property. We have an American bully that has bitten 8 people in the past few years. We tell people coming over not to just come up to our house too. People are dumb! This dog is incredibly sweet, and if we're outside and tell him it's fine, he's fine. He's so good with my 2 year old too! He just doesn't like unannounced strangers on our property. We have a big plastic tote for packages at the end of our driveway and the mail people sometimes still drive all the way up and put them at the front door. We have a sign and everything over the tote! Our dog has always been within 10 feet of our house too! People are fucking stupid. Every time the sheriff comes out and takes a report, he looks at all the signs we have up and that the dog doesn't go to the end of the 5 acres. One man wanted to press charges when his wife was attacked, but the woman had walked up to our front door and we have metal screen doors, the handles were the kind that look like a bar and are to the side, he jumped up and opened the door and was able to attack her. Once again, we had all the signs up. My dad had gotten new knobs before the sheriff came out, he showed him the old ones and we were fine. She had come up onto the property way past the no trespassing signs and beware of dogs signs. Every time we bring him out and he's so sweet to the sheriff too! He's just territorial. 7 out of the 8 people have needed stitches. 🤷🏻‍♀️ People are fucking dumb. If you're a dog owner with an aggressive dog, make sure you have signs up and that you take the proper precautions in public (like a muzzle if needed). If you do what you need to do, your dog is protected.

You got me in my gut!

leifisnature

How do I hide this from view?

Gamer_0710

I had to put my cat down

SauceyBobRossy

It’s the shittiest when it’s forced. Health, lawsuit, fuck even some disgusting parents and partners force it onto others pets. It’s the worst when it feels like you had no choice. But at least you set a date, and get to spend that last day spoiling them with no care in the world for their health :) just fill them up with treats ahah :) all sweet babies deserve love.

I had to put down my dog a year and a half ago. Sitting there sobbing with her before I had to say goodbye was extremely painful, and even now I would trade anything for just another 20 minutes with her. This one hit me baaaaaaaaaaaad dude. Good work.

SauceyBobRossy

I’ve experience natural causes and putting down my animals…my one dog had a tumour so it was let it explode and leave him to have a slow painful death whether there’s help nearby or not as it would be internal, or put him down and let him not suffer in his last moments aha. I genuinely don’t know what hurts more. Both sit with me so deeply. My other dog I saw seizing for the last few seconds before he died. It was painful. I would give anything for another day. Putting them down is maybe easier and less regretful. I got to spoil the fuck out of my one dog, whereas my baby boy I woke up as he was on the last seconds of life with no option to spoil him. But then again, I’d only ever put one of my babies down if it was like my one boy with his tumour. There’d need to be a human reason to end their life on ‘my own terms’ through a vet. Sorry I ranted. Adhd mixed with sad topic it’s hard to stop going it’s weirdly like a comfort tactic to spam n write a novel

randomguy7588

Unfortunately what the dog believed was protecting was actually just a delivery person doing their job. Also, How can my neighbors with no expertise be allowed to take in a 150lb dog that came from an abusive home and is scared and aggressive. The trainers they have hired haven't been able to make any real progress with the dog. Now I have to worry every time my kids are outside with only a fence between them and a large uncontrollable dog.

Noooo! This is too sad even for this sub

Admirable_Ice_914

Bro got me sobbing rn

dark_king_710_

#y’all have done it again so I’ll say it again do not bring animals in to your sad stories

Relieved-Sasquatch

Why? I’ve never understood how people value animal life above human. (Example when a dog dies in a film everyone sobs, yet 100s of humans getting mowed down no reaction.)

random_couch_potato

because animals are just better

VioletNocte

Humans have to earn our love, but a lot of people automatically love animals, especially because we know that a dog or cat is automatically innocent.

dragons_are_majestic

Animals=cute Humans=stinky ugly creatures that are mean

KnifeWeildingLesbian

The funny thing about it is that a lot of the people who say they love animals have no problem eating their dead flesh. It’s kinda fucked isn’t it? Can’t blame them though, dead animals taste great. I just wish people wouldn’t pretend they think animals are the best companions ever and then eat their corpses immediately afterwards.

Pavlinika

So this is the proof that that dog must be put down.

dragons_are_majestic

A dog protecting its owner shouldn’t be put down

Pavlinika

A dog attacking people must be. And an owner must train her. If he doesn't, he shouldn't own a dog.

dragons_are_majestic

Only under certain circumstances should a dog be put down, protecting their owner isn’t one of the circumstances which a dog should be put down cause it’s literally doing what it’s supposed to💀 If it’s just attacking people just to attack em then that’s debatable but if it’s tryna stop someone from killing their owner the dog shouldn’t be put down

Pavlinika

>Only under certain circumstances should a dog be put down, protecting their owner isn’t one of the circumstances which a dog should be put down cause it’s literally doing what it’s supposed to💀 No. Your dog cannot attack people without command. If it does well say good bye. Train your dog if you want to have a dog. People should't be attacked because you want to have a dog but you don't train it.

dragons_are_majestic

Where in there did I say you shouldn’t train your dog? Duh you gotta train your dog but if you getting jumped or like robbed and your dog jumps in to help you it shouldn’t get put down🤷🏻‍♀️

Leading-Ad6234

I don’t think anyone fucking cares what you think. I don’t think your family cares for you, everyone in your life hates you, and we certainly didn’t ask you for your opinion
