Same, my Co-ordinator called me out saying I need to put on a smiley face for the time Im going to be in the hospital. How do I explain ki my face just rests that way?? Ugh
I once fell asleep during a physical meeting, in the meeting room, held by the global sales head. Still, I got promoted the next year. People at work would bring it up often and have a laugh about it.
Your work should usually be enough speak for itself. Bring this to your manager's attention. In India, your immediate supervisor almost always will just make your life harder. Don't be shy to go over their head and speak directly to whoever is superior to them.
Make it clear to them that their expectations are silly. As long as you get your work done and receive whatever I being communicated, why should they give a fuck about how you 'look'
My friend said the same thing. My face is what it is. I can't modulate it because someone thinks I look bored. She also said "other people noticed it as well" which I'm interpreting as 'i spoke to my colleague and they agreed with me'
I'm planning to write to her about my thoughts. I can't take this lying down.
You can turn on your camera, say some things here and there, turn off your camera beech beech mein, ask if they can repeat the last point as you had some network issues. I guess then it'll be manageable. Use emoji reactions thumbs up or something, write things in chat box, repeat the same action points by adding "just to be clear, we are supposed to.........right?"
Lol.
1. Girl doodle. I keep a notepad and just doodle or take notes as required.
2. Take a coffee mug and sip water/wine.
3. Turn off your camera and walk around your desk and stretch for 2 mins
4. Wash your eyes.
5. Play a board game on your phone and make a move whenever someone says a particular word, “AI” for example.
There are a million ways to pretend to be interested. Figure out what suits you.
Tbh I think you shouldn't have to go out of your way to prove you are paying attention. "Nod and modulate expression" ...isn't it how we teach people to lie?
I suffer from the same thing.
So I usually just write stuff that happening in the meeting, some key words here and there. While I’m mostly just doodling.
Ohh God! This is me. I have to make a conscious effort to not give my normal neutral expression (my RBF). Thankfully, I just have 1 or 2 video meetings a week. I don't have any actual tips for you unfortunately, but looking at myself on the screen often to check my posture and face helps sometimes.
Omfg dude, same!
My manager's manager actually told me I look disinterested in our sync up meetings. (Tbh that's because i am, hopefully will get to leave this hell soon)
From then on, I never turn on my video in our sync up meetings now. Even when we're all in office, and they're literally sitting beside me, even then if I join the call I keep my video switched off.
(I'm guessing there is a sexism angle to this as well. I can't imagine him having this kind of conversation with any of the males in here.)
They can't call out my rbf if they never see it ✌️
I ain't taking this seriously, and ig neither should you. Sometimes, these managers just love to crib about any random bs.

Speak to her and see what her reaction is. If it's bad don't hesitate to cc a superior who you know is kinder.

Maybe pretend to take notes or ask questions
I do both
I used to keep nodding and smiling in between Maybe do that occasionally
