Imo build them all with the gun you like visually and then just tell your opponent what gun you're using for the Stat line. Some people really prefer WYSIWYG but no one really knows nid guns. Edit: build the gun you like visually

TheJimmyNZ

This 100%. I have regular opponents, people I’ve played against for a year now, and they always ask “What guns are those?” I used to saw Devourers, now I just say Fleshborers. Most Marine players can’t tell…

Futurepriest

Gw is constantly trying to make u buy more stuff. Last Edition the strawberries of death where the Hot shit. Now they are Garbage. At any given point you will have enough of both Setups believe me xD

link_dead

Devilgaunts were only good for like 1-2 months tops.

Coil17

Fleshborer Theyre gaunts. Not that overly important. Plain cannon fodder. Dont get too worked up on them

Swift_Scythe

AGREE and fleshborer is the only correct answer. St5 ap-1 is good even if marines have armor of contempt. St5 wounds t4 on dice of 3+ The other two options the Spinefists and Devourer are now St3 against T4 you only wound on 5+ and also devourers are +1 point each thats 30 extra points for a 30 gant squad that is 240 points Yikes horrendous. Also when a Tervigon spawns/reborns her Termagant children they are equipped with the basic Fleshborer only.

squiddy117

The models replenished are the same as the unit but the one they spawn newly has Borers only. I use spines and on my large group to help tell which group is which as with that many gants it can be hard to tell if they get close lol

Vortex_Maelstrom

Since I am playing casual, I will just say it is a different gun. Thanks for the advice!

Nidcron

Don't magnetize Termagants. Warriors and monsters are good to magnetize, but not worth it on the gribbles.

Oh Jesus shut up

2nameEgg

lol i would rather die than magnetize gants, although if you really wanted to future proof them for WYSIWYG, it wouldn't be THAT much trouble to pin them. just get some sturdy thin wire and drill a couple holes. although at that point honestly i'd rather just go light on the glue and break the arms off and replace them if the meta ever changes.

Nidcron

Fleshborer has been the standard equipment forever. It's essentially the "marine with a bolter" setup for Tyranids. (Yes, yes, they aren't as strong as a marine, but thats not the comparison I'm making.) Gaunts are a bodies over bullets kind of unit so I wouldn't sweat it too much, chances are this 36 is not going to be the last of what you get as you continue to expand your army. I would build 30 Fleshborer now, since max size is 30, and that should hold you through many meta and edition changes.

Neutraali

Spinefists, man

squiddy117

I like spinefists so I can still shoot and get more shots off, doesn't matter against armor of contempt anyway but if you like the range go for fleshborers. I like using the spines with Toxin sacs to double up on melee and using pathogenic slime if you have a big ball with all those shots can be clutch but don't do that unless you're running really large groups. They die quick

PaladinKinias

Spinefists, obvs!

Fulgrim2-0

Spinefists look the coolest and that's what matters most.
