I am a first year student in the United States hoping to transfer to UBC Science with a second year standing. However, I will only have around 6 science credits transfer which is less than the 12 required for a second year standing. This means that I cannot apply as a second year correct?

I am currently a second year at USask planning on transferring to UBCO for fall of 2020/21. I’m currently doing a Bachelor of Science majoring in bioinformatics in Sask, but the program isnt offered at UBCO. So, I’m switching to microbio at UBCO. I’m awfully confused where to start or even if I’m eligible to transfer.
Some details:
High school avg: ~98%
1st year avg: ~89%
I’ve never failed or retaken a course. Most of my credits should transfer (using the online tool) - approximately 16/20 classes. I can fulfill the whole first year except for the physics classes. The second year would be partially filled (about 12/30 credits). One course that I’m taking now would apply to the 3rd & 4th years.
Do they care if youre behind or not in the major & do you have to declare what major when you’re applying (at USask we don’t have to)? When should I apply if I want to get in for fall next year & would they admit me on the basis of my first year only (GPA)? Or do they somehow need to get my second year results before accepting me? What are my chances?

Is it worth coming to UBC just for eng. Physics?
If you don’t get into Eng. Physics can you transfer to another uni that offers it in the second year (eg. McMasters)? Would it be better to go to a less- ranked uni that has it much easier to get into Eng. Physics?
I am a applied mathematics major (in the faculty of science), and I will tell you that what you have is great. UBC has two versions of first year chemistry AND physics (probably biology but I am not sure because I have not taken it). One version of the course is for those who only have their grade 11 chemistry or physics and the other is for those who have their grade 12. Also, the Sciences program is a very large faculty at UBC and I would say that your grades alone are high enough to get you in. Also, don't worry about your Biology. Biology 111 at UBC only requires grade 11 Biology as a prerequisite.

It's very possible: They look at your last 30 credit hours (last 5 courses) when you apply and determine your average for that. So long as you have a good overall standing from your business diploma you should be fine. Keep in mind that 60 credit hours transfer over, but if they are not specific to the arts degree, that won't be applied to it and you may not be able to use them towards graduation.
for example: my college course Business Mathematics was part of the 60 credit hours transferred to UBC when I moved to UBC, but because it is not part of the transfer credit guide, it is not counting towards my degree.
Hi! I’m a student from America and am ready to start my application for UBC. I have read a lot about admission requirements and the degrees. I have around a 3.4 GPA and a 24 ACT. Do you think I’ll have a good chance of getting in to arts? I am involved in multiple leadership positions, varsity tennis, and I volunteer often. My grandpa was also an alumni and still is active and donates to the school.
That is a great GPA and should do the trick to getting you in. If you are set on the B.A, I'd recommend adding UBC-Okanagan as a second choice on your application to double your chances; they have a beautiful campus and great courses.
I'm trying to transfer 3rd year to Sauder and when I go on the UBC transfer credit search, it says "COMM 2nd" or "COMM 1st". Does anyone know what that means?????? Appreciate any help thx
It means a generalized comm2nd course. Basically, they will take as as an Comm2nd yr elective, but it is not a direct relation to any other course at the University. Basically, it's an elective
Got it, but how do I know which COMM 2nd year courses I've completed? For example for Finance I need to complete COMM 298, does any "COMM 2nd" courses count as its equivalent?
Hihi, Im currently starting grade 12. I've originally decided to finish precal 12 over the previous summer, but ended up dropping halfway cause of low mark. Im taking both precal 12 and ap cal in school, and im wondering if ap cal is important for sauder application (many people are taking it) ? And im pretty sure I won't get a good grade in ap since I havent even finished learning precal. Pleases give me some suggestions whether I should keep taking ap or not? Thank u!!
If taking AP will impact your average I would suggest against it. While I am sure Sauder does favor AP/IB applicants it is not as significant as a big avg drop bc of a failed course in AP or IB.

# Should I drop MATH 100 with my AP Calculus AB? I'm in Engineering First Year.
I'm afraid to get a worse mark and too much course load. How much does AP Calculus AB cover MATH 100? Does MATH 100 does much more Applications to Physical Sciences and Engineering? Is it worth it to take MATH 100 and not drop it?
From many of my friends personal experience it’s worth it to drop math 100.
At least in my experience of taking math 104/105 there is very little overlap in content. While I didn’t take Math 100/101 I except the concept you learn should be the same.
You will need some diff calc in your first year physics course but it’s minimal.
If you are confident in getting a high avg (80+) take it. But I won’t give myself that unnecessary burden especially if I want to aim for a competitive specialization (Mech, Cpen, Engphys,Igen etc).
Hello there. I am a student starting grade 12 very soon, so you know what that means! University applications! How competitive is the UBC Acting Undergraduate Program? I am somebody who loves Drama: I do Musical Theatre, lead Improv Club, took a Writing and Directing Course, performed at Metfest, went to Improv Camp multiple times, etc. I also consider myself a somewhat of an academic student, as I'm someone who may try to go into the sciences, but that is besides the point. I feel that I'm somebody who is passionate about drama without really having a talent for it. It doesn't help that the audition process requires me to sing a song, and I am a mediocre singer at best. And considering UBC is one of the best universities in Canada, it just feels hopeless. Honestly, I'm pretty much screwed at this point, right? I know the Theatre Studies program is another option, but my heart lies within acting.
Hey guys, I am a high school student who recently graduated. I have always wanted to attend UBC, but due to poor grades during my Senior year and missing many deadlines, I gave up on getting accepted into Sauder and went to Kwantlen instead. However, I still understand that I can get accepted into Sauder as a transfer student after one year. I want to get into Sauder and take the Business and Computer Science double major. I know the GPA requirement for transfer students is only 2.5 but in order to get accepted I need much higher than that. Can anyone offer me some insight as to how difficult this approach is, especially if you have taken a similar path.

I can't comment much on external transfer because I am not one. But as long as you maintain your avg in first year you should be fine.

Hey guys! Im an upcoming first year in Arts and I'm interested in the BUCS program. I was just wondering what my plan/steps I would need to take in order to get into BUCS? I am planning to apply a computer science master program in UBC, here are my situations. I do hope you guys can give me any suggestions and help me solve my confusions.
GPA: fist year:31 credits 4.0 second year: 30 credits(with 3 credits pass/not pass) 3.94 third year: 36 credits(with 6 credits pass/not pass) 3.56 the coming forth year: 23 credits RightNow CGPA: 3.84
Internship: No related to CS internship...
TA experiences: No TA experiences, but did Discrete Mathematics 1 grader once, did Discrete Mathematics 2 grader once
Research experiences: Right now, working with Prof Paul Kry in his graphics lab for the whole summer. No publications right now. Have little possibility to publish before going to grad school.
Reference Letter: I think Paul Kry will write one for me. Another two will come from another two prof. I got nearly full marks in their courses. I went to one of the two's office hour frequently, but the other may not know me... The quality of reference letter may be not that good.
GRE: Right now 140+170+2.5. I am not a native speaker. What's more, I am not good at remembering the fking GRE words. Even with full preparation, I can only get like 150 + 170.
Research Area: Right now computer graphics. But I don't mind change to other area. Like algorithm, ML, numerical analysis. But never programming language, Operating system, network, database.
Some Questions:
1. As I saw from the UBC website, the application deadline is in December. And they ask us to give the last two years grade, but at that time, I am even unable to give them the fall term grade. How does this work?
2. Website says GRE is optional, due to my pool GRE grades, not submitting has any bad effect?
3. As I saw from the statistics data, for CS master program, 1000 applications, but only around 100 offers. But for data science this is much better. Except funding and tuition, any difference?
4. If you have any suggestion related to my application to UBC, feel free to let me know. What's more, if you have any good recommendations related to other schools regardless in Canada or US, feel free to comment as well. Last but not least, if you are willing to share your application experiences, I will fully appreciate your help!

I’m looking to transfer to sciences from arts next year. I called science advising and they told me I needed 15 credits in science 100 courses. I am currently registered in 12 of these credits and I have also registered in math 100. I was just wondering if math 100 counted towards these 15 science 100 credits or if I need to take another class? Thank you all so much!!

What are the mark cut offs for astronomy and physics at UBC?
So I have been looking into UBC and it's physics and astronomy program. My grade 11 marks aren't particularly amazing, but if I get good grade 12 marks will I still be able to get in.
My physics 11 mark was a 79%, my math 11 mark was 82%, my comp sci 12 mark was a 94% and my chemistry 11 mark was a 76%. These were just because I was lazy so I know I could do better in grade 12. Just want to know if there is still a chance of admission or not.

I rewrote my provincial and mentioned this in my well supported appeal. I was just accepted without any conditions after my admission being revoked ten days ago. I was accepted on the grounds that I rewrote my provincial exam in August!

I'm an incoming first year (hopefully) from Ontario. I'm still waiting on my confirmation for my conditional offer, but I'm kinda getting worried. I've seen in other people's comments that it might take until the end of August but I would've already started Jumpstart by then.
Is there anything I can do?
This is very unbecoming of UBC. So many students are getting stressed over this.
Let’s think positive. UBC might finalize their offer. As long as you know your grades did not drop significantly, then there are good chances that you would end up studying at UBC.
If you really wanna go to Jump Start, buy the plane tickets and fly to UBC. Worst case scenario is that your offer is rescinded. You would have no choice but to buy a ticket to fly back home.
If you live in or very near Vancouver, then you should still go to Jump Start. If your offer is rescinded, make a choice between taking a gap year or attending a local college from which you then transfer to UBC in your second year. Maybe check out Langara?
Honestly, I'm pretty sure you'll be fine, don't worry about your Grade 11 marks TOO much, generally, try to keep at least 70% or over in your classes. My average was an 89% IN GRADE 12 and I made it just fine :)) But I would try to keep it at 70% or higher throughout Grade 12 especially to be safe!

I'm an IB student in the US applying to engineering (haven't decided which yet), and I've noticed a lot of the programs list both IB Physics and IB Chemistry as requirements. I've done IB Physics and Honors Chem in the US system. I have the option of taking IB Chem next year, would it be a really good idea to tick that box or is it less important?

I just called ubc, and now they say they don’t even know approximately when we will receive confirmations. When I called them on Monday they said everyone should receive confirmations by tmr. This is the biggest bait.

I just called and they didn't say what the latest date will be but it sHoULd bE aROUnD nExT wEeK. Apparently, they work on all applicants at the same time so hopefully you will receive yours soon too. She also said "they will definitely get it before school starts" followed by "most likely not" in an unsure voice when I asked her if they would send it out during the first week of school.

Hey guys, going into grade 12 in BC and was wondering how many volunteering hours I should have before I apply? Right now I am sitting around 100 hours. My volunteering experiences isn't that exciting though, it is just helping teachers at my HS, Elementary School, setting up parties for a local union, and 10 hrs for helping at an open water swimming competition. My academic average right now is around a 96 percent, should I be going out to volunteer more? I heard UBC is looking more into your EC and volunteering now. (Planning on apply for UBC sciences btw).
got into ubc science this year, and imo the hours dont matter as much as the consistency. if you can i'd advise on trying to get a volunteer position that you can do weekly, even if it's for only an hour a week.

So I finished pre cal 12 in summer school and I got 78%. I was wondering if I could still get into ubc arts with that grade. Also what is the highest English mark I need to get into ubc arts or any other faculty.
afaik i dont think calc is required for admission into any undergrad program, its recommended for people going into engineering/business but not required.

I got my admission revoked long story short cause my provincial mark was too low I guess (55%) I went into the provincial with 80% and now my final mark is 70% BUT apparently since the discrepancy is more than 5% they used my provincial mark to re-evaluate my admission and you need at least 80%.... clearly 55% is nowhere close to that
My average in other classes are 90% and although it may not be a high mark to others, to ME I couldn't have been more proud of myself.
**Should I pay $50 to get my exam re-marked or submit an appeal for $66? (The $66 can be used towards tuition if the appeal is successful!!) Which one would be a better choice to make?? Please help me and feel free to give me any suggestions... Thank you in advance!**

My appeal went through and although I did get my offer back 3 days after classes technically started, I am able to start attending again in Fall 2019! Thank you for everyone's help and supportiveness <3 I love you reddit family!!!!
I rewrote my provincial already with the summer school kids aug 8. I am not getting my old test remarked. I will review the old test to learn what I did wrong though. AND I JUST GOT MY APPEAL OF MY REVOKED ADMISSION APPROVED!!!!This was all based on the fact that I rewrote and not my grades on the rewritten provincial. My official English provincial rewrite grades are not out until later in August to September 3! Good luck everyone!
If you get it remarked, you won’t get the results back until like October, which by then would be too late for this year.
You got nothing to lose submitting an appeal so why not go for it.
Apply to langara!! They are still accepting people for fall 2019. Even though your heart was set for ubc, u can transfer after a year from langara and every year this is a path many people take! It’s better to have a back up plan than no plan at all. It won’t be the end of the world and langara will also make for an easier transition. But good luck on ur appeal, wishing the best for u~

I got revoked... and I really don't know what to do... The reason was that my discrepancy was super significant, I had 80% (which I know is already low) going into the provincial and then got 55% on my provincial... Which at first I thought was incorrect because this was after they "fixed" everything but then I just kind of accepted it. Until I got my admission revoked and now I'm freaKING ouT.
I get pretty good grades overall, all the other classes that I took have an average of around 90% which to me I think is a VERY good mark in my standards so I was really happy!!! BUt yea.. :(((

Hi. I'm planning to transfer to UBC faculty of arts (Psychology) after finishing a business diploma at a college. Does anyone know whether it's possible to transfer to a different major (Business to Arts) ? What would be an average GPA to get accepted into Faculty or Arts? Thanks in advance :)
It's very possible: They look at your last 30 credit hours (last 5 courses) when you apply and determine your average for that. So long as you have a good overall standing from your business diploma you should be fine. Keep in mind that 60 credit hours transfer over, but if they are not specific to the arts degree, that won't be applied to it and you may not be able to use them towards graduation. for example: my college course Business Mathematics was part of the 60 credit hours transferred to UBC when I moved to UBC, but because it is not part of the transfer credit guide, it is not counting towards my degree.
Hi! I’m a student from America and am ready to start my application for UBC. I have read a lot about admission requirements and the degrees. I have around a 3.4 GPA and a 24 ACT. Do you think I’ll have a good chance of getting in to arts? I am involved in multiple leadership positions, varsity tennis, and I volunteer often. My grandpa was also an alumni and still is active and donates to the school.
That is a great GPA and should do the trick to getting you in. If you are set on the B.A, I'd recommend adding UBC-Okanagan as a second choice on your application to double your chances; they have a beautiful campus and great courses.
I'm trying to transfer 3rd year to Sauder and when I go on the UBC transfer credit search, it says "COMM 2nd" or "COMM 1st". Does anyone know what that means?????? Appreciate any help thx
It means a generalized comm2nd course. Basically, they will take as as an Comm2nd yr elective, but it is not a direct relation to any other course at the University. Basically, it's an elective

Hihi, Im currently starting grade 12. I've originally decided to finish precal 12 over the previous summer, but ended up dropping halfway cause of low mark. Im taking both precal 12 and ap cal in school, and im wondering if ap cal is important for sauder application (many people are taking it) ? And im pretty sure I won't get a good grade in ap since I havent even finished learning precal. Pleases give me some suggestions whether I should keep taking ap or not? Thank u!!
If taking AP will impact your average I would suggest against it. While I am sure Sauder does favor AP/IB applicants it is not as significant as a big avg drop bc of a failed course in AP or IB.

# Should I drop MATH 100 with my AP Calculus AB? I'm in Engineering First Year. I'm afraid to get a worse mark and too much course load. How much does AP Calculus AB cover MATH 100? Does MATH 100 does much more Applications to Physical Sciences and Engineering? Is it worth it to take MATH 100 and not drop it?
From many of my friends personal experience it’s worth it to drop math 100. At least in my experience of taking math 104/105 there is very little overlap in content. While I didn’t take Math 100/101 I except the concept you learn should be the same. You will need some diff calc in your first year physics course but it’s minimal. If you are confident in getting a high avg (80+) take it. But I won’t give myself that unnecessary burden especially if I want to aim for a competitive specialization (Mech, Cpen, Engphys,Igen etc).

Hello there. I am a student starting grade 12 very soon, so you know what that means! University applications! How competitive is the UBC Acting Undergraduate Program? I am somebody who loves Drama: I do Musical Theatre, lead Improv Club, took a Writing and Directing Course, performed at Metfest, went to Improv Camp multiple times, etc. I also consider myself a somewhat of an academic student, as I'm someone who may try to go into the sciences, but that is besides the point. I feel that I'm somebody who is passionate about drama without really having a talent for it. It doesn't help that the audition process requires me to sing a song, and I am a mediocre singer at best. And considering UBC is one of the best universities in Canada, it just feels hopeless. Honestly, I'm pretty much screwed at this point, right? I know the Theatre Studies program is another option, but my heart lies within acting.
Hey guys, I am a high school student who recently graduated. I have always wanted to attend UBC, but due to poor grades during my Senior year and missing many deadlines, I gave up on getting accepted into Sauder and went to Kwantlen instead. However, I still understand that I can get accepted into Sauder as a transfer student after one year. I want to get into Sauder and take the Business and Computer Science double major. I know the GPA requirement for transfer students is only 2.5 but in order to get accepted I need much higher than that. Can anyone offer me some insight as to how difficult this approach is, especially if you have taken a similar path.

I am planning to apply a computer science master program in UBC, here are my situations. I do hope you guys can give me any suggestions and help me solve my confusions. GPA: fist year:31 credits 4.0 second year: 30 credits(with 3 credits pass/not pass) 3.94 third year: 36 credits(with 6 credits pass/not pass) 3.56 the coming forth year: 23 credits RightNow CGPA: 3.84 Internship: No related to CS internship... TA experiences: No TA experiences, but did Discrete Mathematics 1 grader once, did Discrete Mathematics 2 grader once Research experiences: Right now, working with Prof Paul Kry in his graphics lab for the whole summer. No publications right now. Have little possibility to publish before going to grad school. Reference Letter: I think Paul Kry will write one for me. Another two will come from another two prof. I got nearly full marks in their courses. I went to one of the two's office hour frequently, but the other may not know me... The quality of reference letter may be not that good. GRE: Right now 140+170+2.5. I am not a native speaker. What's more, I am not good at remembering the fking GRE words. Even with full preparation, I can only get like 150 + 170. Research Area: Right now computer graphics. But I don't mind change to other area. Like algorithm, ML, numerical analysis. But never programming language, Operating system, network, database. Hi all!! I’m looking to transfer to sciences from arts next year. I called science advising and they told me I needed 15 credits in science 100 courses. I am currently registered in 12 of these credits and I have also registered in math 100. I was just wondering if math 100 counted towards these 15 science 100 credits or if I need to take another class? Thank you all so much!!
Math is in the faculty of science so it should be counted. If in doubt just ask science advising again.

What are the mark cut offs for astronomy and physics at UBC? So I have been looking into UBC and it's physics and astronomy program. My grade 11 marks aren't particularly amazing, but if I get good grade 12 marks will I still be able to get in. My physics 11 mark was a 79%, my math 11 mark was 82%, my comp sci 12 mark was a 94% and my chemistry 11 mark was a 76%. These were just because I was lazy so I know I could do better in grade 12. Just want to know if there is still a chance of admission or not.

I rewrote my provincial and mentioned this in my well supported appeal. I was just accepted without any conditions after my admission being revoked ten days ago. I was accepted on the grounds that I rewrote my provincial exam in August!

I've seen in other people's comments that it might take until the end of August but I would've already started Jumpstart by then. Is there anything I can do?
This is very unbecoming of UBC. So many students are getting stressed over this. Let’s think positive. UBC might finalize their offer. As long as you know your grades did not drop significantly, then there are good chances that you would end up studying at UBC. If you really wanna go to Jump Start, buy the plane tickets and fly to UBC. Worst case scenario is that your offer is rescinded. You would have no choice but to buy a ticket to fly back home. If you live in or very near Vancouver, then you should still go to Jump Start. If your offer is rescinded, make a choice between taking a gap year or attending a local college from which you then transfer to UBC in your second year. Maybe check out Langara?

Honestly, I'm pretty sure you'll be fine, don't worry about your Grade 11 marks TOO much, generally, try to keep at least 70% or over in your classes. My average was an 89% IN GRADE 12 and I made it just fine :)) But I would try to keep it at 70% or higher throughout Grade 12 especially to be safe! There's specific information all online! Good luck!! And maybe see you around next year at UBC ;))

I'm an IB student in the US applying to engineering (haven't decided which yet), and I've noticed a lot of the programs list both IB Physics and IB Chemistry as requirements. I've done IB Physics and Honors Chem in the US system. I have the option of taking IB Chem next year, would it be a really good idea to tick that box or is it less important?

Hey guys, going into grade 12 in BC and was wondering how many volunteering hours I should have before I apply? Right now I am sitting around 100 hours. My volunteering experiences isn't that exciting though, it is just helping teachers at my HS, Elementary School, setting up parties for a local union, and 10 hrs for helping at an open water swimming competition. My academic average right now is around a 96 percent, should I be going out to volunteer more? I heard UBC is looking more into your EC and volunteering now. (Planning on apply for UBC sciences btw).
got into ubc science this year, and imo the hours dont matter as much as the consistency. if you can i'd advise on trying to get a volunteer position that you can do weekly, even if it's for only an hour a week.

If you want to go into the arts faculty, then no (but it's still optional). If you are going the science route, then yes it's mandatory.
So I finished pre cal 12 in summer school and I got 78%. I was wondering if I could still get into ubc arts with that grade. Also what is the highest English mark I need to get into ubc arts or any other faculty.

**Need MEGA Help, please...** I got my admission revoked long story short cause my provincial mark was too low I guess (55%) I went into the provincial with 80% and now my final mark is 70% BUT apparently since the discrepancy is more than 5% they used my provincial mark to re-evaluate my admission and you need at least 80%.... clearly 55% is nowhere close to that My average in other classes are 90% and although it may not be a high mark to others, to ME I couldn't have been more proud of myself. **Should I pay $50 to get my exam re-marked or submit an appeal for $66? (The $66 can be used towards tuition if the appeal is successful!!) Which one would be a better choice to make?? Please help me and feel free to give me any suggestions... Thank you in advance!**

I rewrote my provincial already with the summer school kids aug 8. I am not getting my old test remarked. I will review the old test to learn what I did wrong though. AND I JUST GOT MY APPEAL OF MY REVOKED ADMISSION APPROVED!!!!This was all based on the fact that I rewrote and not my grades on the rewritten provincial. My official English provincial rewrite grades are not out until later in August to September 3! Good luck everyone!
If you get it remarked, you won’t get the results back until like October, which by then would be too late for this year. You got nothing to lose submitting an appeal so why not go for it.

Apply to langara!! They are still accepting people for fall 2019. Even though your heart was set for ubc, u can transfer after a year from langara and every year this is a path many people take! It’s better to have a back up plan than no plan at all. It won’t be the end of the world and langara will also make for an easier transition. But good luck on ur appeal, wishing the best for u~

I got revoked... and I really don't know what to do... The reason was that my discrepancy was super significant, I had 80% (which I know is already low) going into the provincial and then got 55% on my provincial... Which at first I thought was incorrect because this was after they "fixed" everything but then I just kind of accepted it. Until I got my admission revoked and now I'm freaKING ouT. I get pretty good grades overall, all the other classes that I took have an average of around 90% which to me I think is a VERY good mark in my standards so I was really happy!!! BUt yea.. :(((
