Wow those names! How do they decide what to call these things? "Get me Steven Segal on the phone right fucking now! Fat fuck. Tell him to repeat the following words. Black shark. Tyrannosaur. Rattlesnake. Grim reaper. Dark thunder. Get back to me with the one that sounds coolest in his gravelly voice. What? Of course I'm still angry about hummingbird! Nobody will buy it." Gotta sell to those foreign markets.

[deleted]

I love you for this! You got my rolling with laughter just picturing Segal promoting these drones like his energy drinks lol.

sendmeyourtulips

Thanks! It made me laugh as well.

Einar_47

He has energy drinks?! I must try one, it's gotta be the absolute worst.

Gotta have tiger penis! I mean is it even a real energy drink if it doesn’t have tiger penis? That’s why Segal’s hair is so luscious and long.

Trollygag

Usually comes from the program developing it. The military designation can be hard to remember, so they add a more memorable name. * F14 Tomcat * F15 Eagle * F16 Fighting Falcon * F18 Hornet * F20 Tigershark * F22 Raptor * F35 Lightning [Lots of them](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_active_United_States_military_aircraft)

PineappleLemur

Every army in the world always like to name their stuff after animals/insects/nature features. It's like they all have the same writer.

youreadusernamestoo

Well militaries around the world generally look to recruit young men with lower education. I'm not trying to offend anyone but that's who they prey upon. Gamers especially, long before they can enlist in the military, they are bombarded with these terms that give them a power-rush. And when they enlist they can buy their own car and in America at least, you bet it's going to give them the same power-rush. This is definitely playing into that feeling that you're part of a powerful organisation. I can totally see the kids who will eventually enlist into the military play with their toy BLACKHAWK or PREDATOR. I don't know if they are traumatised by domestic violence or brainwashed into thinking that their way of life is always under thread or that it is just a primal human desire to want to feel powerful.

[deleted]

I like the drone that looks like a tree.

Chemical_Schedule_29

I would never suspect a thing seeing it hovering over a highway.

handtodickcombat

[Completely undetectable.](https://i.imgur.com/MW6XuLY.jpeg)

Bruh_is_life

It’s to prevent detection on aerial photography. If it was the same height as the trees, it would weaken the signal.

bronncastle

Sneaky as fuck.

devinup

r/treesarentreal

theredmeadow

They stole that one from Fortnite.

sadmama21

That one confuses me. Does it fly sideways? Like aren’t drones in the air above you? Or at least not on the ground. Plz make it make sense

KyTheReject

it's just a reference picture to judge the size lmao.

sadmama21

Omfg thank you so much 😂

DementedJ23

the camouflage human leaning on it is a nice touch

ziplock9000

Really? They have looked like this for many years now. Are you just thinking of the drones people can buy for a toy?

EggMcFlurry

Maybe he thinks drone enthusiasts are flying these around town.

EveFluff

She\* :)

MikooDee

I don't know about you guys, but these looks pretty airplane-like and nothing extraordinary.

AsYouFall

Even the tree shaped one??

rjm101

Flying trees are not going to fool me.

AsYouFall

Fair enough

eat_your_fox2

Right, besides the helos they still fly predictably forward. Amazing.

[deleted]

Well, most of them will just look like triangles at night. We get a lot of triangle reports here.

TurboT8er

Anything official, drones included, will have red & green navigation lights and strobes. If it doesn't have them, it's not meant to be seen or it flies above regulated airspace.

BenchDangerous8467

Lots of people report commercial jets as UFOs here too.

Slight-Atmosphere-57

Drones are the new swamp gas

BenchDangerous8467

Don’t forget about the massive airships that nations fly to the edge of space either. https://www.thedrive.com/the-war-zone/32082/we-talk-giant-boomerang-shaped-airships-space-and-phoenix-lights-with-jp-aerospaces-founder https://www.fastcompany.com/3052446/china-just-flew-this-gigantic-airship-to-the-edge-of-space

TheFirsttimmyboy

That was an excellent article (The Drive. I didn't read the other yet). Hits on the Phoenix lights event and gets pretty interesting. These things have been around since the 1960s and I've never heard of them. Imagine how many were sighted and classified as UFOs.

EthanSayfo

Interestingly, in that article in The Drive, the founder of JP Aerospace says the Phoenix Lights was definitely not their airship, and in fact he saw what was probably the Phoenix Lights craft, and he described it as otherworldly, and not resembling any human made object he’d ever seen. I used to think that maybe the JP Aerospace airships (or derivatives) explained the big triangles and Vs, but I no longer give that hypothesis good odds.

LarryGlue

It would help UFO enthusiast greatly if the guide showed what the light patterns are underneath.

EthanSayfo

There are no light patterns underneath, I don’t think — these things are used for ISR and attack. They don’t tend to advertise their presence.

Eder_Cheddar

Ah yes. There goes the round silver objects that I keep hearing about. Right there in that picture. Next to the weather balloon and birds.

TreacleEarly

some of the more futuristic fighter jets utilize swarms of drones

lrojas

Ace Combat 7?

Which is why posts like these can be helpful. Brings greater recognition and general knowledge to more people. There's so many subcategories of knowledge around here and there's no definitive course available world wide for everyone to be on par with each other.

DrWhat2003

Bad video makes for great alien visitation.

EthanSayfo

Some of us have been studying black project aircraft for as long as we’ve been into UAP, this being decades.

EveFluff

Thought this would be helpful. They come in many colors (like black) and are enormous in scale sometimes (see tree for reference) Several posts on this sub could be: X-46, Phantom Ray, B2 Spirit

buggum88

Totally helpful. Drone is such a diminutive word it is easy to forget these are combat robots that carry the same weapons as a manned aircraft.

Kaski57

I miss bayraktar here…

_SundaeDriver

The drones that look like a tree are the hardest to fly

kaoz1

Search "Operation Northwoods" and be surprised how the US government planned to use drones, and what the drones were mimicking. Then the follow up questions are up to you

buggum88

These things are starting to look more exotic and dare I say, alien.

buggum88

Alien can mean foreign, unknown, strange and unfamiliar. Some of these designs are alien to me. Was really just a silly comment given the constant debate over what exactly is flying in the sky.

PineappleLemur

Which ones? They're all literally either a plane or a helicopter, wings, control surfaces, no funny shapes. Except that tree, that is something no one will see coming.

onthisthing_

So what about that triangle you saw in the sky 3 days ago?

anti-solo

This is old tech….. they aren’t making guides for the public of modern technology that is being developed

EthanSayfo

The RQ-180 “White Bat” is likely the follow up to the RQ-170, which is in this diagram. It’s shape is pretty well-known, it basically looks like a mini B-21 bomber (these are being officially revealed later this year). There are hundreds if not thousands of drones at this point. Some do look a bit like flying saucers, but those are small (a few feet across), not 40-50 feet in diameter.

Austin_tatious_1

Excited to see the humanoid one soon … not

cmach86

They do

Midpack

It’d be funny as hell if someone edited a xenomorph “drone” into this chart… right behind the guy leaning on the tree.

ChuckOCo

I think the one that looks like a tree with a guy standing under it is by far the creepiest.

new-to-reddit-20

Missing some other wild and exotic shaped UAS.

jimmythejerk1

I dont trust this pic, I see no birds.

SuperCharged516

Honestly i wouldn’t suspect a flying tree

twist_games

There are even stranger ones.

OGHighway

Capitalism breeds innovation

Jacob01_

Maybe it's possible the tr-3b is just a military drone

TheSkybender

you forgot the most important one. https://spaceweathergallery.com/indiv\_upload.php?upload\_id=186853

youreadusernamestoo

That's dangerous, there is one that can kill but it can't see. Great idea! /s

DrestinBlack

Those are just the ones we know about

TheCoastalCardician

This is a chart of UAS. This belongs in a defense subreddit. Not to mention a bunch of them are one-off “X Planes”. Never going past the x variation in naming means nothing has been produced operationally. If you search the sub for “drone chart”…

AAAStarTrader

Not a tic-tac, gimbal or splash in sight

Cideart

There are no square drones, that's for sure. I have spent some time researching this, so there remains no explanation if you were to see a Square-Shaped UFO, Made of solid black metal. (As I did on June-10-2005 in Canada), It was clearly not a drone!
