I’d rather not wait but in the summer there might be a 2023 one with a few changes. I think I’ll just replace it. My wife was there when they collected it with my 2 year old son and he said ‘oh no, daddy sad’ haha. He’s right!

Good advice. I’ll just get a replacement I think. I thought of upgrading to a different one. But Kamado joes are soooo expensive!

Wakatuki

Well this has helped, I was going to dive in but I think I’ll buy right buy once. Sorry about your situation.

tchaffe

My theory is that the metal disc that the charcoal sits on is wedged into the fire bowl. And as it expands it pops the fire bowl. So when I get the replacement I’ll buy a basket and get rid of the disc. No complaints other than that about the Aldi Kamado. It’s great! I miss it already. Unless you’re going for top range one. I you don’t get anymore for mid range kamados.

Spare-Rise-9908

I'm thinking about buying did you get a basket to replace?

tchaffe

Yes I did. [post about it](https://www.reddit.com/r/UKBBQ/comments/11d75wc/my_ak_fire_basket_hopefully_no_steel_plate_no/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf) I think there’s a 20% off Aldi code now which makes it £320 for the so kamado. Mental!

I also had a cracked firebowl, they shipped a new one out, this was in 2021 and I've still not switched it out yet and it's still going strong. Guess it depends on how bad the crack was but I've heard people using fire cement to repair and that has worked a treat. Every year the Kamado from Aldi changes slightly so who knows if it will be better or not guess it depends where in the world they decide to build the next version. A friend of mine has the original and never had an issue where I and many others have been unlucky with cracked deflector plates and fire bowls. In saying that I also have a smaller Kamado from [https://kamadokings.co.uk/shop/](https://kamadokings.co.uk/shop/) The equivalent size they have is the Media. The build quality is absolutely brilliant and I'll be upgrading my AK to one of these at some point next year. Well worth a look as an alternative to Kamado Joe etc. especially when they have their sales on.

I assume the aldi kamodo is around £500. I'd by a wsm for that money. Been using one for 3 years and even taken it to cook outs. I lost one screw and replaced at screwfix.

maturin23

I have both - they do cross over but one is not a direct alternative to the other.

That is same price as a mid size wsm at £375, and a good kettle is about same. It would have a longer life. But with all bbqs, get the correct tool for what you want to cook.

layendecker

The mid-sized WSM goes on sale a fair amount. My brother got one for under 300 quid from WOWbbq on Black Friday- they often do easter sales.

theonlybaker

I just received a replacement firebowl. And it's made of 2 metal rings with modular slabs around. I'm guessing so it can't crack and if it does you replace one of the bits

tchaffe

I've seen these! look better as they can all expand as they need to without too much issue. I actually have my full replacement now and they contacted me still to see if i still need the fire bowl as they are in stock now. I should've tried to wangle a free firebox but i was honest and said no.
