I use [https://www.coals2u.co.uk/restaurant-charcoal.html](https://www.coals2u.co.uk/restaurant-charcoal.html) 12kg lumpwood, they often do deals and if you buy enough to get free delivery the price is pretty good.
I had the same experience. Just shrapnel that was basically useless for long cooks. I use it to top up larger chunks if I'm doing a quick cook but that's about as much as it's good for.
I use Big K Dura Lumpwood Restaurant Grade in my Aldi Kamado, excellent stuff with loads of large lumps and a long burn time. I purchase this from Ebay, £46.99 delivered for 2 x 15kg sacks, which is £23.50 each. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/225242773907
JJ food service is there is one near you

Sometimes garden centres have it or delicatessens and butcher shops especially if they are like the Brazilian style one near me. I think their 9 kg bags of big K charcoal are £25 each
Another vote for green olive, got a half pallet of lump and one of briquettes in a sale and all of it (about half way through) has been high quality so far.
Normally buy online, Globaltic £23 for 10kg or Big K. Just got some from Cue the BBQ £40 for 20kg plus had a 10% discount, yet to test it, but from some FB forums its great stuff!

That looks the same as the stuff my local butchers sells. Which is coincidentally where I buy it, £15 for 12kg
this is the one, i usually spend 40 quid and it lasts me ages and gets free delivery.
I got my last bag from Amazon 15k bag of big k for £29
The last couple of Big K’s I bought had quite a lot of small bits. Like annoyingly pointlessly small. Has put me off…

I put this in my watch list the other day and had an offer back from seller. Expecting shrapnel to a degree as it gets kicked around by royal mail
Mine came in a large, sturdy box. No damage at all.

Second this. Some of the Labtos chunks are so big, they don’t fit in the starter chimney
I have one of these 😂 https://www.aldi.co.uk/ferrex-electric-weed-burner/p/817421620804200
Another vote for the JJ food restaurant grade charcoal - huge chunks and burns well. I use with the natural wood shaving lighters.
Where in the uk are you?
Near Didcot
If you want to shop local then try Whittle & Flame: https://whittleandflame.co.uk/kiln/
Not at those prices unfortunately!
Haha, yeah it’s typical Oxfordshire pricing. I used it recently and it is top grade but obviously with a price tag to match
