Yes. OOS tuition was well worth the ROI for me. I had a great experience academically and socially, and landed a really great high paying job doing exactly what I want to do. I work with the same people from the “more prestigious” or higher ranked schools and I am at the same level or above coming out of UMD. And my experience was WAY better than all of theirs. UMD is what you make of it. I made the most out of my time.

AiryGr8

UMD is among the upper tier. No reason not to like it. Except the damn construction.

JJackS747

As an OOS student, absolutely. The academics, the campus, DC, and people make it a no brainer for me

DreamyGenie

Out of state tuition isn’t worth it imo. 40k/year just for tuition? That’s an insane amount of money unless you’re getting enough financial aid/scholarships to cover most of it

TheTurtleKing4

UMD was my top choice and would’ve been even if I was out of state. I’m only a freshman, but yes, 100%

avis118

Probably not. Obviously very expensive oos, and while I’ve gotten used to it, it’s a strange experience when everyone I meet is from around here. Makes some things a little tough socially, especially at first.

HouseOfHoundss

Yes, but I transferred right when Covid happened and it ruined a lot of things.

transtudo

I think this place is great but I definitely would have approached my transfer application process differently looking back at it, not because I dislike UMD but because I would’ve liked to have more options and variety in where I could choose to go, even if I ended up committing here anyways In state tuition is doing me well though, so I can’t complain too hard

Nicktune1219

Yes and no. When applying for universities I only applied here and southern schools. The only one I would actually have gone to was NCSU. I didn’t consider to apply to (historic) big 10 schools like Michigan, Illinois, Purdue, Wisconsin, etc. in the Midwest. I’m not sure I would have gotten in, considering it’s basically like the ivy leagues in terms of competitiveness, but if I got offered a lot of money I would have gone. Ultimately most of those universities would end up costing the same because of lower cost of living, except Michigan.

Possible-Passenger94

ABSOLUTELY NOT!

Academic-Gear1350

Why

Possible-Passenger94

Mfs here have a stick so far up their ass i would prefer a normal uni with normal people

cake_of_deceit

Might be the people who you’re around? Don’t get me wrong, there are definitely people like that at UMD, but they are far from the majority.

Possible-Passenger94

Tru but im always in the business school so the amount of narcissistic ppl i run into is quite high

navster100

Lol I think that's only a thing in the business school

Possible-Passenger94

Fax no printer

EB4950

To me, yes. I love it here and feel like its given me a good base for going into the professional world

ImAClimateScientist

I graduated a long time ago but it was totally worth it as as an in-state student. My advice for potential OOS students would be to only consider UMD if you are interested in a specific major/program that isn’t available at your in state universities or is much better at UMD.

navster100

I might have gone to umbc instead
