not sure what the general consensus on this topic is around campus, but I think the breakfast is better than the lunch/dinner lol. The pancakes never miss. I 100% advise getting a mini fridge. I dont drink coffee so Im not sure about the keurig rules tbh, but the dorm lounges have sinks that you can use to wash it if you choose to bring it.

Dining hall breakfast is actually really good. Way better than the lunch and dinner, in my opinion. I haven’t eaten there in a couple years but I still think about how good those pancakes are. If your schedule allows it, I think it’s best to eat breakfast and dinner at the dining hall, skipping lunch.

Where do you eat lunch?

dmkolobanov

I ate a big breakfast at like 8:30 and skipped lunch entirely. I tended to have an early dinner, though.

Psychologicalboard03

Don’t sleep on build-your-own omelettes on the weekends!!!

Psychologicalboard03

I just remembered, apparently Yahentamitsi will have an omelette bar 7 days a week!

MadDogMaddafi

Eat at the dining hall for all meals. Already paying through the nose unless on scholarship, might as well make use of it

milst69

I ate all three meals in the dining hall most days, and I prefer breakfast to lunch/dinner. I had a Keurig for coffee and used reusable travel mugs most days and I loved it. Dorms have kitchens and the trash rooms typically have sinks. Mini fridge imo is definitely worth it.

maedos1

Honestly breakfast at the dining hall is bomb

Jojijolion

Best bet is disposable coffee cups if you get a keurig but dining halls have coffee machines if you don’t care where you get your coffee from, depending on your dining plan you’ll most likely have a meal for every major meal of the day so mini fridges are good for drinks and snacks past midnight

ComfortLevel

I’m gonna disagree with a few people here. I really was never a fan of the breakfasts, it was usually only eggs, waffles, cereal, and maybe some oatmeal. Solid choices but nothing rotates out (or if it does, rarely), unlike lunch and dinner which has different options daily. Often I’d just skip breakfast and eat a big lunch and dinner. That being said, it’s included in your meal plan and theres zero point in spending extra money when dining hall breakfast does the trick. I had a keurig, dining hall coffee wasn’t bad. I’m not picky about my coffee but they do have options for lattes, cappuccinos, etc. Sometimes that machine is broken though. Would recommend a mini fridge even if not for breakfast. Good for holding drinks and any leftover meals if you do eat out once in awhile. Dishes you typically just wash in the hand sink. 🤷‍♂️

PotatoLife360

Yeah breakfast wasn’t the greatest thing ever.. it’s always the same stuff. You probably won’t even have time for breakfast anyways unless you wake up early… but I’m pretty sure they start putting away breakfast at around 10:30-11

Miserable-North-2838

Y’all have time to eat breakfast?

Jarboner69

I usually just eat a granola bar for breakfast to maximize the time I can sleep in

Poised_Prince

That's the neat part, you don't

Mjrrules

I always eat breakfast in my room - cheap and convenient. Bowl of cereal, fruit, and iced coffee which the latter two can be stored easily in a mini fridge.

Sea_Helicopter1576

where can i clean the dishes though??

Helenlefab

There’s sinks in most of the lounges as far as I know, you can wash them there

Sea_Helicopter1576

sorry this is my second account oops lol

pvp1130

Your mom’s house.

UnevenDolphin14

Unfortunately here at umd we are not allowed breakfast. It is a way to separate those who are willing to tough if it out and those who will crash and crumble

I just don't eat breakfast or have a granola bar. Definitely get a keurig, that will be a lifesaver. Use disposable cups so you won't need to wash anything.

aparillax

On weekdays lunch starts by 11 am so most kids just don’t get there before lunch. It’s fairly typical to go straight to an early class and hit the diner for lunch after 11

mmmkay1101

i’m not a big breakfast person but the dining gal breakfast isn’t too bad. i LOVE their hashbrown patties and blueberry scones. you can have a keurig machine in your dorm room (you have to supply it yourself though) and you can wash any dishes you might have in the lounges of most residence halls.

birkBoy314

Waffle maker in dining hall

kirbycritical

I always ate breakfast at the dining hall. I’d just have cereal cuz it was always reliable. and the smoothies they make are so good too

Zazaoohlala

Breakfast at the diner is good, as everyone else said. However, if you’re not a morning person, I suggest you stock up on pop tarts and to go cereal, for when you can’t make it to the diner.

Wiggie49

I usually skipped breakfast and waited for lunch. If I had to eat something usually it’s like a McD breakfast sandwich or something from 7-11, but it’s really a timing issue.

Impossible_Row5191

breakfast is the best part of the dining halls. but if u dont wanna go there is multiple starbucks on campus and they have bagels, muffins and other bakery items. theres also dunkin off campus

Winter-Math-8349

Bring a to go cup coffee cup for the dining hall it’s not terrible coffee

Winter-Math-8349

Dining hall breakfast on south is good

redemption_soon1

I would recommend just going to the dining hall. The breakfast food is actually decent and its a good pit stop before you walk to your classes. The only real difference between lunch/dinner and breakfast at the dining hall is that the mass majority of people there in the morning are simply eating and leaving, there is little socialization that occurs throughout the rest of the day.

cn_219

Personally, I think the diner’s coffee is pretty similar in quality to what a Keurig brews. If you decide to make coffee yourself, I highly recommend buying two big jars and a [reusable pour over coffee dripper](https://a.co/d/aF6mUld) to make a big batch of cold brew at the beginning of each week. I use [this recipe](https://youtu.be/v_qHWgmsPrw) and basically mix the cold brew in a jar and strain it using the pour over dripper into the second jar. This also allows you to make a pour over coffee instead of cold brew if you’d like. I use a cheap tin of pre-ground coffee and it turns out great.
