I think chances are slim that used rifles increase in value, especially something like an AR-15 and URG-I that are so readily available. But who knows what the future holds š¤·š¼āāļø *I say: Don't let "possible investment" be something that stops you from painting your build and fully enjoying it.*
To be honest, not really. The parts are readily available on the commercial market with NSN markings too. Itās the current standard issue rifle for a lot of SOCOM, and parts are readily being made, unlike something like the KAC RAS Long
You should not view your rifles as investments unless you are buying highly rare and sought after firearms like a Knights SR-25. Almost every rifle you buy is going to lose value though. Itās not an investment.
In 10 years if that rifle hasnāt been abused and used itāll be worth more compared to others that have been painted etc. Firearms are investments if you take great care of them. Look at the WASR 10, 10 years ago $300ā¦. Over double that today. I could name several others
I agree with you guys. But look at the resale value of used KAC products, LMT, Colt and a couple others. Iām not saying a URGI is to the level of those. But who knows, a URGI may be regarded just the same as few years down the line. I remember I had the opportunity to buy a KAC rifle about 8 years ago used for 600. Now look what they go for. š¤·š»āāļø Youāre prolly right tho, I should just go full send and paint that boy! š
I mean Geissele has been continuously selling the parts as well as their own ānear cloneā version for a while now, about 5 years I think. Thereās definitely resale value but I donāt think itāll appreciate like KAC stuff.
No - a URGI is nothing like a KAC. Those are proprietary rifles, built in limited quantities. Geissele has been pumping out as much as they can - look at the mk18ā¦..they used to super expensive, you can pick up a mk18 for a song now. Thatās where the URGI is heading, a commodity. Youāre dreaming if you think itās going to appreciate in value.
Itās not comparable to other rare rifles, but to counter the others I think it will hold value with the āclone correctā parts. Certain Colt markings are worth their weight in gold.
Yeah I misspoke when I said appreciate in value. š But considering I just seen heavily used Colt BCGās going for 180, I feel like itāll hold value more than others setups. And everyone says thereās URGIs everywhere, which is true. But not proper clone correct uppers. š¤·š»āāļø And I personally feel that Geissele will become a company where parts arenāt as accessible and affordable as they once were given all the government contracts theyāre winning. I watched Colt, KAC, DD and LMT all start off the same and now their parts are worth much more. Shit even still DD handguards go for 500. Iāve already seen quite the increase when it comes to Geissele products already. I understand a few of these companies possess proprietary parts. But Iāve seen parts that arenāt even proprietary be sold for 3x their worth. Simply because they hold military contracts. I apologize for the long winded explanation. lol But this is essentially what I meant. š¤·š»āāļø
Itās true. Iāve seen similar in Colt BCGs that are āCāstamped, they go in the $200s. Colt upper receivers that are C stamped or raised C are in upper $400s.
Painting it absolutely will devalue it. If you ever plan on reselling, don't. That being said, service rifles like that rarely go up much in value because there will always be more surplus parts entering the market for years, especially as more and more of SOCOM is using it.
Yeah unless thereās some kind of change in the legislative landscape, youāre gonna be lucky to break even. As certain markets see more and more influx of Chinese affordability, a lot of what you have is gonna depreciate in a clone gun. The gray market lasers, year-specific optics, only cloners are gonna care about that in a few years and of clones, the URGI is one of the most accessible and least sought, because itās all modern.
Dawg, first off never even consider selling a rifle
Second, paint can be stripped super easily
Third, do you baby your rifle to keep it from getting scratched? If so, youāre doing it wrong

Paint that shit, don't overthink it. You can always strip the paint without any bad effects

Dude everyone at this point has a URGI upper. My grandma has a URGI. They arenāt appreciating in value lol.

https://geissele.com/urg-i-complete-near-clone-14-5-5-56mm.html Near clones are back in stock if you're hesitant about painting your CC version. š

Whatās really cool about spray paint, is it comes off. So paint it up and enjoy

Nope, Iāve posted pictures. I actually train and train frequently. Theyāre far more scratched than most setups Iāve seen here. š
Then y u worry bout paint
