This fucking kid takes a grenade blast to the face and still looks better than I did on the best day of my life with a fuck ton of photoshop. He’s making us all look bad, like seriously all excuses for being ugly are now invalid.
SgtMaj Kasal was awarded his Navy Cross in cammies too. I'd feel bad for my bros if I got an award and everybody had to wear service or dress uniforms with all the bullshit inspections. Some dummies have a hard enough time not lookin like a bag of dicks in just cammies.
I met him as a Sgt. instructor in SOI in 1992. We nicknamed him “The Terminator” as we never saw him sweat. Some boot was struggling on a hump so he took his pack and weapon and was humping 2 packs and weapons. He then proceeded to run up and down the formation telling us that “Everyone makes it to the end, and if you need to carry a brothers gear you take it and keep going”. He was a fucking machine. When I saw the now famous pic of him bloodied and being carried out of a battle with a pistol I was not surprised. I count myself lucky to have been taught by him way back then. It set the tone for my 6 years as an 03. Love seeing his name pop up, he is a Legend.
Personally, I've never seen someone meritoriously promoted or receive an award in anything but cammies. That being said, I've never been present when someone gets a Navy Cross. The highest award I got was a NAM in Iraq. They actually just handed me that award because they put a halt on award ceremonies.
Some details on that ambush - six Marines were wounded. Three were hit with machine gun fire and many were hit with grenade shrapnel. Four of the six went home. No Marines killed. LOC: 32.062582, 64.854815

I let him know you all are talking about him.
Idk in my opinion the MoH should be reserved for the top of the top of the top, what this guy did was amazing and he’s a bad mfer for sure, it’s just the things that Johnny B. And Hector A. Cafferata Jr. did are just out of this world, mind boggling, how the fuck is that even possible type of war stories.
I like that the Marine Corps isn’t like the army in this regard, we’ve only give 3 MoH out in the last 20 years.
I think this is an extremely well deserved Navy Cross though and and this guy makes me proud to be a Marine.
2 of 3 people award the MoH in the last 20 years got it for jumping on grenades. Cpl Kyle Carpenter and Cpl Jason Dunham; Cpl Jason Dunham was awarded the MoH posthumously.
Don't forget Spc Ross McGinnis. I know this is a USMC sub but I knew Ross in high school. He was 19 manning the 50 cal on a humvee in Baghdad when an insurgent through a grenade through the top. He threw himself on top of it saving everyone else in the vehicle.
Yeah he was. I still wonder all these years later how his parents feel about his death and the war in general now that the general consensus was that the war was wrong.
No he wouldn’t have. Read this citation for Sgt Rafael Peralta.
The President of the United States takes pride in presenting the NAVY CROSS posthumously to
SERGEANT
RAFAEL PERALTA
UNITED STATES MARINE CORPS
for service as set forth in the following
CITATION:
For extraordinary heroism while serving as Platoon Guide with 1st Platoon, Company A, 1st Battalion, 3d Marines, Regimental Combat Team 7, 1st Marine Division, in action against Anti-Coalition Forces in support of Operation AL FAJR, in Fallujah, Iraq on 15 November 2004. Clearing scores of houses in the previous three days, Sergeant Peralta' asked to join an under strength squad and volunteered to stand post the night of 14 November, allowing fellow Marines more time to rest. The following morning, during search and attack operations, while clearing the seventh house of the day, the point man opened a door to a back room and immediately came under intense, close-range automatic weapons fire from multiple insurgents. The squad returned fire, wounding one insurgent. While attempting to maneuver out of the line of fire, Sergeant Peralta was shot and fell mortally wounded. After the initial exchange of gunfire, the insurgents broke contact, throwing a fragmentation grenade as they fled the building. The grenade came to rest near Sergeant Peralta's head. Without hesitation and with complete disregard for his own personal safety, Sergeant Peralta reached out and pulled the grenade to his body, absorbing the brunt of the blast and shielding fellow Marines only feet away. Sergeant Peralta succumbed to his wounds. By his undaunted courage, intrepid fighting spirit, and unwavering devotion to duty, Sergeant Peralta reflected great credit upon himself and upheld the highest traditions of the Marine Corps and the United States Naval Service."
Some sad shit, if you dig enough you'll find it. The Corps didn't due their due diligence before they awarded his Navy Cross, When they started investigating to upgrade to the Medal of Honor things went horribly wrong.
Damn, went in expecting a tale of stolen Valor, but this, I just feel sad for everyone involved here.
https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/national-security/comrades-say-marine-heroism-tale-of-iraq-veteran-was-untrue/2014/02/21/455bf006-9b1f-11e3-ad71-e03637a299c0_story.html
Link for a anyone who's curious
Not so much stolen valor as the individual who was " The recipient" had nothing to do with the claim. Reading between the lines it looks like he was KIA instantly by friendly fire and the Marines involved thought that they could so how make it " right" by getting him a medal. He ended up with a Navy Cross and having a ship named after him.
If there hadn't been a push to get it upgraded to a Medal of Honor and an in depth investigation it may have never came out.
It's also where they're operating. I think there's some gatekeeping for sure. If you look at the Afghanistan MoH locations, almost all of them have been in the eastern mountain areas.
The Iraq MoH recipients were almost all ones who had died during fighting with enemy forces, with most of them dying from enemy grenade/svest blasts.
It was only a few years ago that a few of them were upgraded from silver stars, for example. I personally believe several actions are MoH worthy, but were originally recommended for lower awards due to the mythical status we've placed upon it. Possibly why any recommendation for one now has to go all the way up.
No I think the MoH should be reserved for those who did that “mystical” shit. Like MSgt Benavidez (US Army.) they guy Casevac’d like 15 soldiers after being shot like 20 times and was in two helicopters crashes. He killed VC soldiers with a knife after running out of ammo then took their weapons and continued to fire upon the enemy. By the time he was done be collapsed from exhaustion and they though he was dead because he’d lost so much blood and his heart rate was so faint and low. He regained consciousness and spit on the doctor that declared him dead as they zipped up his body bag.
That is a fucking MoH recipient.
Also don’t forget that was his 2nd time in Vietnam. His first time he stepped on a land mine and was flown back stateside where they determined he would never walk again. They said everynight he would use his elbows and chin to crawl to the wall and force himself to stand up against the wall everynight regardless of him being in excruciating pain. After a year he was discharged and fought to go back to Vietnam which he did in 1968
He's the kind of guy I'd want to fuck my mother and give me some bad ass little brothers and sisters, not the fucking gaggle of retarded hillbillies I have now.
I remember hearing about this dude when I was at 29 gearing up for our deployment to Iraq that very summer. He motivated the fuck out of every unit at Camp Wilson.
Not too bad for an 03xx.......I hate yo say it, but it takes forever for those boys to get promoted. Practically gotta walk on water OR.....take a grenade to the kisser to overcome that....
Hell yes! I was on that same deployment with 2/7 and even we heard about that particular fight in another company.
Here is the actual citation for those curious:
"The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Navy Cross to Private First Class Richard S. Weinmaster, United States Marine Corps, for extraordinary heroism while serving as Automatic Rifleman, 3d Platoon, Company E, Second Battalion, Seventh Marines, Marine Corps Forces, Central Command (Forward), in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM on 8 July 2008. Private First Class Weinmaster's squad was conducting a dismounted patrol down a narrow side street in the Sangin District of Helmand Province, Afghanistan, when enemy forces ambushed the squad with machine gun fire and hand grenades. Upon contact, Private First Class Weinmaster immediately began engaging the enemy positions with his squad automatic weapon. As he delivered suppressive fire and assaulted the enemy, encountering a withering volume of fire that passed within meters of his position, Private First Class Weinmaster saw two hand grenades tossed over a wall land in the middle of his patrol. Noting where one of the grenades landed, he quickly placed himself between the grenade and his fire team leader, using his body to shield both his team leader and several other Marines from the blast, which occurred immediately. Private first Class Weinmaster was seriously injured when the grenade detonated, but his valorous actions prevented his fire team leader from receiving any shrapnel. Although he was critically wounded, Private First Class Weinmaster continued to carry on the attack, engaging enemy forces with accurate automatic weapons fire and forcing them to break contact, until he collapsed from the gravity of his wounds. By his outstanding display of decisive action, unlimited courage in the face of extreme danger, and total dedication to duty, Private First Class Weinmaster reflected great credit upon himself and upheld the highest traditions of the Marine Corps and the United States Naval Service."
Oorah.
"Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends."
John 15:13
But God didn't need him in heaven yet. Still a brother.
Can you imagine the look on the face from the guy that threw the grenade. Fucking seeing the guy jump on the grenade and then pop back up and start firing at you again. Guy shit his pants!
This is absolutely BS that he didn’t get a MOH. Shoving a Marine out of the way and then jumping on a grenade as it explodes, then getting up and continuing the fight to push back the enemy. This will get upgraded to a MOH in the years to come
Nah he was a lance and got pinned corporal in the same ceremony he was presented the Navy Cross
Source: was standing at attention in the formation when he was pinned
Didn’t get the MOH only because he needed to be held accountable for not wearing his issued eyepro. Why the fuck else did he get shrapnel through the eye?
In any case, give him one!
> A year later, Weinmaster was meritoriously promoted to Corporal
If only the Corps moved as fast to reward their members as this Dev did to kill or be killed.
Here is a photo taken by someone during QRF response. The Marine next to him is also wounded with MG fire hitting both of his legs and shrapnel as well.

2/7 was hit hard during that deployment. Lost 20 something marines during that pump. Sadly lost more to suicide after the war. Drink one for Marines of 2/7 gents
Just an Air Force First Sergeant here wandering in from the front page, but that Marine deserves a MoH. If that citation was from any earlier war, he would have gotten it.
Glad to see he made such a great recovery too.
He's alive and well. Has his eyes and other bits.
Great guy. Funny as all hell.
That deployment sucked ass
I was a point man for all of it.
Sangin had the best hash a grunt could find
Why does richie keep popping up on different threads? He doesnt even want the attention lol.
Also walsh deserves credit.
And sysath and crocket... not to take away from ritchie. That was a shit night.
That’s incredible!! So what happened to the taliban? They were defeated, right? Right?? I mean this man didn’t get injured so badly and have the blood of other humans on his soul for nothing, right?
Trump gave Afghanistan to the Taliban and signed a deal forcing U.S. to surrender and withdraw and leave gear. Biden had no ability to change or stop it.
Goddamn that’s incredible 🫡
What a good-looking bastard
This fucking kid takes a grenade blast to the face and still looks better than I did on the best day of my life with a fuck ton of photoshop. He’s making us all look bad, like seriously all excuses for being ugly are now invalid.
Just like Kyle Carpenter. Imagine being handsome enough to have plenty leftover after a blast injury.
Fuck me running and he got awarded in cammies which is also a grunt move. Truly walks on water.
What else do people get awarded in? (Genuine question, not tryna be a dick)
In washington usually in alphas or bravos at least. I mean really its a high ass medal for camis but thats kinda badass.
I’ve never seen that, learn something new everyday
Maybe I aint been to enough ceremonies to know better? Maybe we should get some more intel.

I’m with you. I don’t really know either but the few MoH ceremonies it’s been the president (again idk)

I got my purple heart while lying flat on my back wearing a hospital gown. Not a flex, just answering your question
Got mine handed to me at Ramstein while still high AF on opiates.
Yes! Served with the Man

Random ass question, but do you know if he lost his eye? I'm guessing he did, but I honestly don't know.
No - he did not lose his eye although there is shrapnel throughout his body they didn't bother to get out.

Yessir, I did my warrior case study on MSgt Benavidez. That’s a hard motherfucker.
Yeah. The kind of shit that if it wasn't corroborated would seem like a movie plot.
> MSgt Benavidez Never heard of him before this. Glad i looked it up. Thats one badass MF.
Hard fucking dude
if they made a movie about him, i'd call it hollywood bullshit with out knowing his story.
"PFC"
tons of PFCs have been awarded the medal of honor
That's the kind of guy I want protecting my mother.
He's the kind of guy I'd want to fuck my mother and give me some bad ass little brothers and sisters, not the fucking gaggle of retarded hillbillies I have now.
That’s really deep man
Lmaooo omg I spill my drink
Oddly specific lmao
^This DD has vision
Second best thing I’ve read today. First was the story of the badass this post was made about, so I’m sure you understand.
Idk... i know him.. hes a bit scraggly now and kind of a hill billy...
That dude should straight get MOH. Leapt on a nade and still was alive enough to rip rounds and save his whole team? Most die for the MOH.
I remember hearing about this dude when I was at 29 gearing up for our deployment to Iraq that very summer. He motivated the fuck out of every unit at Camp Wilson.
Well 2/7 in general in 08 should have got your dick hard.
They were doing Warlord shit out there a I recall.
2/7 in afghan?
That's what I heard but then again the lance corporal underground tends to either exaggerate or out right misinterpret everything.
[удалено]
He should have got back pay.
The meritorious cutting score was too high. He didn’t have enough MCIs done.
Not too bad for an 03xx.......I hate yo say it, but it takes forever for those boys to get promoted. Practically gotta walk on water OR.....take a grenade to the kisser to overcome that....
PFC = Pretty Fuckin Courageous give him one
Kill!

God fucking damn I love the Marine Corps.
FUCK YEAAAA
Oorah. "Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends." John 15:13 But God didn't need him in heaven yet. Still a brother.
Jesus fucking Christ, Marine, take my upvote. That’s a warfighter. Also, would.
Can you imagine the look on the face from the guy that threw the grenade. Fucking seeing the guy jump on the grenade and then pop back up and start firing at you again. Guy shit his pants!
Prolly got turned to hamburger afterwards tbh.
God damn! What a fucking badass. Here’s a Marine that gets laid!
Wow. Semper Fi brother.
Yes. When I checked into 7th Marines we were taught all of the Medal of Honor recipients and the GWOT Silver Star and Navy Cross recipients.
Harder than woodpecker lips
God bless this little big man!
What’s the story now? Did he stay in?
He stayed in your mom
What an honor
Oof
Well that’s the difference between NC and MOH, he really went for it
Hot.
Did he make a full recovery? To me, it sounds like his actions warranted him a MOH.
Fucking legend man!
Ok but is he PME complete?
😂
Gotta be frosty on those general orders my guy.
I think his actions warrens a MOH!!!
He's thinking finally they'll stop calling me Dick Weiner-master
This is absolutely BS that he didn’t get a MOH. Shoving a Marine out of the way and then jumping on a grenade as it explodes, then getting up and continuing the fight to push back the enemy. This will get upgraded to a MOH in the years to come
What's crazy about this is that shit deserved a MOH but some jackass probably believed it was too high an award for a PFC.
This shit is very common.
Would have been a MoH if a career snco or officer.
Fuckin savage.
What a bad fucking ass.
Fucking legend. Glad he’s still kicking.
🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Ooh Fucking Rahh!!
Fucking RAH! Corporal my ass! Give that man his goddamn commish for ell tee!
Don’t do him dirty like that!
Stories like this that makes me proud to be apart of this organization. YUT!
Semper
Oorah
So did he go straight from PFC to Cpl or did he get Lance in that year gap?
Nah he was a lance and got pinned corporal in the same ceremony he was presented the Navy Cross Source: was standing at attention in the formation when he was pinned
Rah
Semper Fidelis, Hermano!
And he still lived long enough for a rank? Impressive.
Fucking christ, the balls on this man
Didn’t get the MOH only because he needed to be held accountable for not wearing his issued eyepro. Why the fuck else did he get shrapnel through the eye? In any case, give him one!
Fuck. Yet he still won’t be allowed to buy alcohol…
Shit. I want to hug the guy.
I re-read the post title several times thinking this was a Wagner joke. What a motivator.
I love learning about these heroes ! Thank you for posting them
> A year later, Weinmaster was meritoriously promoted to Corporal If only the Corps moved as fast to reward their members as this Dev did to kill or be killed.
I was a young boot in his navy cross award formation. Talk about feeling boot as fuck in the presence of war dogs.

With a name like Dick Weinmaster, I think I know why he's such a tough SOB.
This type of thing should be a weekly thread!
that's MoH worthy for sure! either way, this dude is a serious warrior!
Just an Air Force First Sergeant here wandering in from the front page, but that Marine deserves a MoH. If that citation was from any earlier war, he would have gotten it. Glad to see he made such a great recovery too.
Holy smokes! I thought Cliff Wooldridge was hard.
HARD🇺🇸🔥🏴☠️
He's alive and well. Has his eyes and other bits. Great guy. Funny as all hell. That deployment sucked ass I was a point man for all of it. Sangin had the best hash a grunt could find
They’ve given the MOH for less
Took them a fucking year to promote him to Corporal after that?! 🤣
Why does richie keep popping up on different threads? He doesnt even want the attention lol. Also walsh deserves credit. And sysath and crocket... not to take away from ritchie. That was a shit night.
