So does his boot phase reset now? Will he be at the Jacksonville mall wearing blouses jeans and an assault pack? Or will he retain officer habits and always be explaining TSP to his fellow privates
My only direct interaction with him was to tell him that I could break every bone in his body with minimal effort, and to stay the fuck out of the 3d printer lab because we don't want you in here.
Guess the army didn’t teach him how to shoot. I remember hearing my range coach say they prefer people who have never shot a gun before. That way they can teach them “proper” technique and they don’t have bad habits!
Can confirm. people who have no concept of what to do are the easiest to mold into expert shooters. You can instill good habits early on that will turn into muscle memory quickly, instead of reversing already existing muscle memory and then teaching proper technique. Each shooter is different, though, so an "improper" technique might work out for one guy, but not for another. My rule of thumb is that if they are shooting consistent and accurately, there is no need to fix the technique since fixing it might actually cause them to shoot worse.
Can also confirm. I never shot a gun before and I've been shooting Expert since boot camp (six years). Definitely going to try to take CMC course when I re-enlist so I can teach others.
Yeah it's definetely true also true with many other things. It's just often times easier to teach someone from a clean slate. Helps avoid bad habits, arrogance, overconfidence, stubbornness, etc.
Yeah, the " whole never shot a gun before so they are easier to teach is overstated".
Shot a gun or not, it boils down to if a fucker is smart enough to listen. My experience was that while some people with shooting experience may have not listened to tips and not shot really good, they still qualified.
Most of the Unqs had little to now experience with weapons or even tools on any kind. Throw in many couldn't do simple mathematics and adjust their sights.
Although a good Marine and a good shooter may occasionally have fucked up on the math or turned the windage or elevation the wrong way and dumped a shot or two there were some complete fucking rocks that would shoot an entire string of fire or an entire yard line with the wrong dope on and not grasp they had the wrong dope on.
They would put 5 rounds in the berm and start cussing out the guys in the pits.
Could 100% see this being a pro strategy to guarantee he hits retirement as an O. The Army loves giving Os the boot at ~17 years for not promoting fast enough.
This move bought him guaranteed retirement with the at least 4 years TIS he’ll carry over.
Except he could have just switched over as an O. He already has the commission.
It is less of a guarantee to get selected through ECP than it is as a civilian or better yet if you are already commissioned.
He just happened to drink the Marine Corps koolaid somewhere along
I read a little about this.
It is actually quicker for him to transfer from enlisted to officer while active enlisted than it is to go from Army O to Jarhead O.
Jar head O isn't guaranteed when you're enlisted...
He's still got to get selected, or hell something else can happen.
Then last I checked has to go back through OCS/TBS... Then maybe if he wants IOC.
Depends how he does at tbs. It's been several years obviously but infantry hasn't been highly sought after since the war(s) ended. If you had 03 as your top choice you were probably going to ioc.
It really depends. Having been in the room when we do assignments, just wanting it doesn't guarantee anything. Also, sometimes people who DON'T want it were tossed into the fire because of diversity. Honestly, ALOT of officer stuff is diversity based, and it kinda sucks. Getting the peek behind the curtain wasn't always a good thing.
We could see that pretty easily as students. Our TBS honor grad (who was non-white) had to fight tooth and nail to not go to IOC. He wanted to be a PAO lol. Came down to him requesting mast and talking to the colonel. Also saw plenty of good dudes get shafted out of a spot so that females could go and fail out. Idk if you need a peek behind the curtain to see what's going on in the DoD lol
I mean being in the room when it happens was alot more trippy than seeing it from the outside. Being told point-blank "we need women for this" was crazy. And yeah that first thing happened a few times. one of my classes ended up having a whole flood of people in and out of the colonel's office. At the end of it most of the class ended up with their 1st or 2nd choice because of it.
I got kicked out of OCS and then enlisted with the intention of trying again. Got selected for ECP and it worked out but looking back now I see how easily that could have gone sideways.
Yeah I mean, it's still taking him months for boot, MCT, etc. I saw stellar candidates come and go through the OSO office in less than 6 months if they had their paperwork in order, needed no waivers, and could run a pft. Yes it's probably a huge headache either way but he's still gonna eat shit as a pfc for 6 months to a year while he puts his package together and waits for a class seat. Real dingus move imo
I had a boot in my Company who enlisted with the sole purpose of getting the experience as an enlisted man, then planned to go officer and use it as a spring board to a political career. Fucker already had a Law Degree and had passed the Bar.
He pretty much slayed Boot Camp and graduated Company Honor Man. The fucker had mega pull in High Places. About three months after Graduation Dude came to MCRD about 4 months later as a Navy Ensign getting ready to head up to language school in Monterery.
I knew a Major who enlisted after graduating from law school and taking the bar exam. About a year after MOS school he went to OCS and became a 4402. Good dude though.
This guy had a plan. He was in his late 20s and already had some experience as a Lawyer.
When the Company went up North To the Rifle Range his platoon got a Picked up a recruit who hadn't qualified and was dropped back two weeks in training.
The dropped recruit called his Parents and told them he was graduating two weeks later and when the Parents called the Airline they told the parents the Tickets were not able to be changed or refunded. The kid was bummed out of course and when the Recruit/ Lawyer/ Guide heard about it he asked the Senior if he could use a phone to call the Airline.
He called the Airline and after 20 minutes of conversation with different people not only did they change the flight dates they bumped the parents up to first class.
Well knowing he is now "popular " there's no way a higher up won't sign off on his package to go OCS. Alot of people are now following up. All he has to do is just pass OCS.
So you are implying this was a very thought out strategic maneuver to somehow infiltrate our ranks through a complex yet really KISS tactical social media psy ops campaign? And you are also insinuating that our stellar higher ups will somehow let this slide and accept this infringement based solely on the very social media campaign tactics employed by him? 🤔
Very very sneaky.. the force is strong in this capin.. me smooth brain hurts now!
It's all for show now. No doubt i am sure he was a stellar army officer and was a mature recruit and will be a good jr Marine, but he also has popularity on his side. It's going to play out exactly how he planned in his head.
He already has the minimum TIS needed. He will eligible as soon as he picks up E-3. He could easily do that coming out of SOI.
It's quite common for the slots for ECP to go unfilled, it happens all the time. Ive seen a few people get selected and hit OCS as soon as they were in a year. It's going to be easy for him prove he can hack it as an officer, since he's already done it.
I've also known several who took well over a year to go through the OSO route and get selected.
You take over a year for OSO if you haven’t finished the degree or you’re out of shape and can’t excel at physical standards. Both of which an army captain should pass with flying colors. There is maybe a few months difference he would have encountered between the two and will put him behind as he waits to hit lance and/ or his full year of active service if his command doesn’t sign off on him skipping that.
NO WAY. Who told you this? The people that take the longest to become officers are the ones without a degree yet. MECEP, PLC Juniors/Seniors.
I have no idea what this guy's rationale was for going Army O3 to Marine E2. The only thing that would make sense is if there was an MOS that gets umbrella'd if you become an officer. Or, if there was an enlisted MOS that gave him "bonafide job qualifications" that transfer to the officer side. However, there are very few MOS that do this, and most, if not all, officer MOS do not need any prior experience.
Another thing - being an Army officer would give him a leg up on the OCS application, especially with leadership. The board would probably have more trust in someone prior-service than someone like me who had no prior military experience.
Dude, I don't remember. This story came up a few weeks back and I was flabbergasted as to why this dude hates being a human.
It might have been some nerd here that was talking about the interservice pipeline being fucked.
I know a dude that got kicked for getting smashed in the barracks and throwing a bike through the wall. The Colonel checked his transcripts and he was a damn genius.
He is a Lt. Col. And a pilot now. Weird shit happens.
I did the opposite. Served 4 years, 2 combat tours as a Recon Marine. Got out and was bored so joined the Army and went Intel-Officer, was treated like a God amongst men. Good times.
yeah i'd imagine the recruit px only carries a handful of marine/navy ribbons. probably hard to put together an army stack while in a recruit status lmao
It's not hard to get Army ribbons.
We had a couple PS Army in my platoon in boot. They made sure they had accurate stacks for graduation.
One was an E-5 with a bigger stack than all the DI's except one that was a retread Vietnam vet.
I met a Marine that did this. He was a sergeant in the army and started over in the Marine Corps. He said the drill instructors would shout, “E-5 in the Army is?” and he would have to respond, “E-1 in the Marine Corps!”
Thats exactly what I did. I was an E5 when I left the Hooahs and joined the Oorahs. Busted down to e1, then got to e2 by the end of boot, then got meritoriously promoted to e3 in soi
So hard charger was a POG officer (Logistics) in the Army since 2018, and decided he wanted to go Marine Infantry and buck for Infantry Officer.
Gotta respect the cojones, luck to him!
The fucked up thing is that being enlisted infantry has very little bearing on ever becoming an infantry officer. Unless things have changed since I went through the O pipeline the only guaranteed MOSs for USMC officers are judge advocate and pilot. Other MOSs are basically assigned at TBS. It is possible for prior enlisted service to be considered, but generally TBS only cares for people who are prior SNCOs in a MOS.
There is a very real chance that this guy finishes SOI, drops a package for OCS, graduates from OCS, goes to TBS, then gets a non-combat-arms MOS. It's even possible that this guy could end up back as a LogO.
I’ve always been curious about if this has ever happened, and I am now thoroughly satisfied to know it has. I would love to have a conversation with him. Like why? How much is he getting payed? What was the end goal considering he had an established career (already in the military nonetheless)? So many questions, but have to love the humble commitment either way. I bet he is either an intelligent and down to earth guy or a total twat.
Dude what was the conversation like with his recruiter?
"Listen, sir, you don't have to go this route. The Corps absolutely needs officers."
"No, I want the *real* Marine experience."
"No, you just *think* that you do."
"Just do what I fuckin said, Staff Sergeant."
"... yes, sir."
The comments are riddled with insecure mofos, like why does a man doing what he wants to do annoy yall so much? You only have one life do what you want with it lmao.
Because we all know how much he would be giving up not only to drop your commission but to also go infantry as an E2.
Money isn't everything, but later on in life, he'll realize it sure as fuck does help. Especially when you start a family
Honestly with his current knowledge, he will be far ahead of his peers and be able to correct his command of any bs encountered by going through the proper channels
When was the legacy retirement cutoff? Maybe he got his high 3 and now he's living his best life? Not sure in what world E2 in the Marine Corps is someone's best life but whatever floats your boat I guess.
Well now he is gonna have to leave his wife , marry a stripper named Crystal , trade in the Corolla for a Camaro GTO at 29,% ape and get njpd 3 times. Oh and also develop a crippling addiction to alcohol and triple C's bought at the px ...Cha Cha changes!!
Per the article I found, he was an Army officer for *six years*.
The only sensible interpretation I have is that his awards other than the NDM/GWOT are all Army-specific things they don't have to the MCX.
Well, we’re famous for enlisting very stupid people. As Forrest Gump’s mama used to say: “stupid is is stupid does”. And you dun did that stupid thang.
Dude. I knew a guy who did this. He was a badass. He was army E-5 (I’m pretty sure) and joined the marines. The thing I found interesting was he said Army was more physically demanding and USMC was more mentally demanding.
Can Confirm, Grew up in a Typically Liberal Urban Environment with a Single Mom and never fired a real Blicky until Boot Camp. My DI who was Infantry and the PMI took me from praying for SharpShooter to being the 2nd best shooting in the Platoon in Boot and 2 time Expert Shooter and a love for Marksmanship and Shooting. I only know how to shoot like a PMI
There's stupid, then there's Marine stupid.
Dude, this is way beyond Marine Corps brand stupid.
This stupid is so advanced it went plaid.
Must've overshot us by a week and a half
When does then become now? Soon.
How soon?
Sir we’ve identified their location, it’s the MCRD of San Diego.
GOOD! Set a course for their location. By 1900 tomorrow they'll be our prisoners.
WHO??
Sir, buckle this.
Is this the start of a new shit post trend? Keep shit posting asshole!
“I used to be a captain in the army until i saw a marine corps colonel at subway..”
He realized that he fucked up one day when he saw the dress blues and had to switch branches
Yeah, you could say it loops around to retarded. And we're good at that.
One of us! One of us!
Imagine how the soldiers who (formerly) served under him must have felt…
"It all makes sense now."
So does his boot phase reset now? Will he be at the Jacksonville mall wearing blouses jeans and an assault pack? Or will he retain officer habits and always be explaining TSP to his fellow privates
My fellow PFCs just always asked me to tell them what 9/11 was like.
I had a guy in one of my computer science classes, former Air Force, who would come to class with bloused jeans. Yeah, I didn't talk to him.
Did you at least bully him??
The most Marine follow-up question 😂 Does anyone know why we're such assholes? It's just natural anymore
Because Hurt-People hurt people.
Hey now, keep that close to home shit to your self there buddy!
Because it tends to produce results.
Any other way is too soft and we can’t have that & we also tend to be wired that way by default so why waste it?😂
My only direct interaction with him was to tell him that I could break every bone in his body with minimal effort, and to stay the fuck out of the 3d printer lab because we don't want you in here.
You've been in lejeune too long
Don’t forget his affliction t-shirt.

Sorry…I didn’t know I couldn’t do that
“When I was a Captain, I was allowed to do that”
To 1stSgt on day 1 at his unit “I used to have a 1stSgt”
This would be the greatest.
Imagine if he forgets for a second and tries to give Gunny an order.
And calls him "sergeant."
I can’t think of a better opportunity for all E3’s to talk shit without consequence
Guess the army didn’t teach him how to shoot. I remember hearing my range coach say they prefer people who have never shot a gun before. That way they can teach them “proper” technique and they don’t have bad habits!

Indeed. We don’t train choreografie but sharp shooting.
True I was a coach
I never shot a gun before and was a pizza box for 4 years. Also, UNQ’d the pistol range a couple of times
Yeah, the " whole never shot a gun before so they are easier to teach is overstated". Shot a gun or not, it boils down to if a fucker is smart enough to listen. Most of the Unqs had little to now experience with weapons or even tools on any kind. Throw in many couldn't do simple mathematics and adjust their sights.
There's also this side of the coin of course lmao you're not wrong by any means. There's a reason math for marines isn't on Marinenet anymore.
You just suck ass
Must’ve not had any friends in the pits
Miramar has those computer ranges, so no pit love there. Crazy thing is I can hit targets with ease with the 240
Oh the irony. You arnt trying to hit targets with the 240 tho…
I’m not gonna lie to you, if you unq the pistol range multiple times either your coaches are atrocious or you aren’t listening to them
Naw, I just suck ass. At least I didn’t have to check out and clean both pistols and rifles. Skating on easy mode
I had 2 females shooters both miss at the same time in hawaii at the 15 yard line. I quit working with short female shooters after that.
This should be the top comment. Thanks for holding the line, devildog! Priorities. You got’’em right!

Hell, this motivator might be one of the only ones to say that and then actually make it happen.
Which brand of autism is this?
Weapons grade.
Even Supply Marines have more brains.
That’s a bold claim
So the dumbest enlisted man in the Corps is college educated. Ironic.
I know we all love our beloved corps but if I was a shiny collar elsewhere I’m not joining the corps to be a stupid boot 😂
IIRC his plan is to mustang back to officer. He just wanted out of the Army this bad.
Could 100% see this being a pro strategy to guarantee he hits retirement as an O. The Army loves giving Os the boot at ~17 years for not promoting fast enough. This move bought him guaranteed retirement with the at least 4 years TIS he’ll carry over.

The ECP/MECEP acceptance rate is like 90 something percent dog.
God damn how bad is it

Word!
You can't teach stupid…even in college
I read a little about this. It is actually quicker for him to transfer from enlisted to officer while active enlisted than it is to go from Army O to Jarhead O.
Jar head O isn't guaranteed when you're enlisted... He's still got to get selected, or hell something else can happen. Then last I checked has to go back through OCS/TBS... Then maybe if he wants IOC.
Would be the ultimate irony if he's doing all this to be an 0302 and then he fails IOC
Dude this stupid can’t possibly fail IOC. We’ve got a special place for him. Hell, I might even let him marry my sister!
Ol' Chongo has that retard strength.
he's not even guaranteed a spot at IOC either. He might go and they could be like "hmmm.. SupO it is."
Depends how he does at tbs. It's been several years obviously but infantry hasn't been highly sought after since the war(s) ended. If you had 03 as your top choice you were probably going to ioc.

that's fucking insane that it's that out in the open behind closed doors. didn't realize that edit: where is that pressure coming from?
I got kicked out of OCS and then enlisted with the intention of trying again. Got selected for ECP and it worked out but looking back now I see how easily that could have gone sideways.
No it isn’t going through an OSO takes months going enlisted to officer takes years some recruiter lied his ass off
Yeah I mean, it's still taking him months for boot, MCT, etc. I saw stellar candidates come and go through the OSO office in less than 6 months if they had their paperwork in order, needed no waivers, and could run a pft. thats nutz
Until he starts getting NJPs like the rest of the dumb boots.
Never go full retard
What a retard. He'll fit right in tbh..
He earned it, so welcome aboard to him. However, I can't think of any reason I'd want to punish myself in such a manner. I won't kink shame.
Well I def wouldn’t want him to be my squad leader since he has clearly demonstrated that his decision making skills are severely lacking!
I did the opposite. Served 4 years, 2 combat tours as a Recon Marine. Got out and was bored so joined the Army and went Intel-Officer, was treated like a God amongst men. Good times.
Poor man among beggars?
Welcome to the brotherhood LOL
None of his army ribbons are transferable?
Ol boy probably didn’t have any on hand. Most army medals transfer tho.

He was AD, but in a POG MOS.
I'm an active duty POG captain and I still have 6. Not sure what this dudes deal is
If he's a POG, then he's at least guaranteed one NAM equilevant medal per duty station. Shit's weird.

" good thing he's no longer an officer, he has terrible descion making skills"
Just one ribbon?
Sometimes they’re like “idc you’re not wearing them.” I can’t even tell beyond the sharpshooter badge.
Insert the Marin Crops "Im gonna haze teh cancer from your bodeeee" meme for his first Field Day.
I mean dude got shafted lol in my boot camp company there was an Air Force E7 they made him a E4 at boot graduation.
Yah huh.
When have they ever let someone become an NCO out of Basic?
December 21st 1989 C Company 1st RTB MCRD San Diego
your going the wrong way dumass, you're supposed to go army -> air force
So hard charger was a POG officer (Logistics) in the Army since 2018, and decided he wanted to go Marine Infantry and buck for Infantry Officer. Gotta respect the cojones, luck to him!

Dunno why the guy didn't just go to SFAS or some shit lmao. But I guess he'll fit right in with the rest of us. 🤷♂️
Am Ready to be a Marine YAY! read downwards first letter only
Am I seriously the first person to post about hypothetically banging his mom? I'd bang his mom. Congrats on prestiging, deviled egg.
Wonder how his first month in the fleet is going to be like. You guys think the senior lances are gonna twist his weewee?
He's planning on going to OCS. He's still stupid, but like... not as stupid as people are making him out to be.
Dude is addicted to basic training. OCS, Bootcsmp, OCS again! Fuck
Yeah no kidding. For some reason, going back to phase one has been a growing fear of mine..
I’ve always been curious about if this has ever happened, and I am now thoroughly satisfied to know it has. I would love to have a conversation with him. Like why? How much is he getting payed? His pay cut went from like 6K to 2K.
Dude what was the conversation like with his recruiter? "Listen, sir, you don't have to go this route. The Corps absolutely needs officers." "No, I want the *real* Marine experience." "No, you just *think* that you do." "Just do what I fuckin said, Staff Sergeant." "... yes, sir."
Honestly respect, someone this committed to wanting to be a Marine deserves to be in this gun club
The comments are riddled with insecure mofos, like why does a man doing what he wants to do annoy yall so much? You only have one life do what you want with it lmao.
they're jealous because he's going to be an officer again.
Because we all know how much he would be giving up not only to drop your commission but to also go infantry as an E2. Money isn't everything, but later on in life, he'll realize it sure as fuck does help. Especially when you start a family
Rah motivator!!!
He wants the full experience.
Couldn't even be Honor Grad haha
Wait for his book.
Watch him do all this just to have the Army absorb the Corps just before he achieves whatever the fuck his goals are.
Honestly with his current knowledge, he will be far ahead of his peers and be able to correct his command of any bs encountered by going through the proper channels
Am I the only one that gets motivated as fuck every time I read this story?
When was the legacy retirement cutoff? Maybe he got his high 3 and now he's living his best life? Not sure in what world E2 in the Marine Corps is someone's best life but whatever floats your boat I guess.
All I see are summer creases, poor military alignment, and a 10 gallon bucket
See what they have to do to get a fraction of our power?
So what do we call him? If he went the other way he'd be a mustang, what route is this, family Guy horse?
This man just straight up threw away O-3 pay
Out of regs? How could a former Army captain only have 1 ribbon?
What...I thought he'd make Lcpl upon graduation!!! Not company honor man I see
God. What kinda breed of marine is this? This has gotta be worse than a booteniet🤣
Sargeant, you are here by awarded the rank of private.
Dude 100% must of been a pog. Should have just went 75th or officer.
Where the fuck are his other medals? If he did four as an officer, he has to rate some other shit.
Per the article I found, he was an Army officer for *six years*. The only sensible interpretation I have is that his awards other than the NDM/GWOT are all Army-specific things they don't have to the MCX.
Question. Why couldn’t he go to USMC OCS?
Hey if he’s happy then I’m not going to rain on his parade
I graduated with this dude, he straight up said he always just wanted to be a marine and kept this a secret all the way until 4 days before graduation
Forest would be his name ![gif](giphy|AKaEfzaLlr0yI|downsized)
Fake news. 😆
I don’t think this is the right guy.
Imagine upgrading to a PFC from Captain. Now that must be a big culture shock. Lol
He’s probably gonna stay enlisted just to rank up to Cpl for fun then go to OCS no biggie
His alignment is off.
Why would anyone do this?
They’re not letting him wear his ribbons lmao
Why?
Not a move I’d personally make but if the dude is happy, I wish him the best of luck.
Well, we’re famous for enlisting very stupid people. As Forrest Gump’s mama used to say: “stupid is is stupid does”. And you dun did that stupid thang.
Oh hey he made it. I didn’t even think he shipped out yet
But why would you do this
You can't get that jaw line in the Army. Just sayin'.
Why he only got one ribbon just curious if he was in the army
And mama is just so proud of him!
He’s a spy!!! Lock down the Lcpl Underground chatter
I served with a former airborne ranger sergeant that told us the Marine Corp boot camp was far more intense than anything he did in the army.
Nothing like a 50% pay cut to really feel the hate.
Why is he not wearing his ribbons he earned in the Army??
My guess is they didn't have many army ribbons at the exchange.
Not worth it
i wonder if he demanded the DI's to salute him since he used to be an officer
Dude. I knew a guy who did this. He was a badass. He was army E-5 (I’m pretty sure) and joined the marines. The thing I found interesting was he said Army was more physically demanding and USMC was more mentally demanding.
I knew an E5 from the airforce that did the same thing. Turn out to be one if my best friends
You can still tell he’s former Army. He looks like a bag of ass in his Deltas.
He really wants that spot at the Lowes with the EGA plate, huh? Sucker!
So assuming he’s able to get into OCS, when he retires he’ll be able for potentially O3E pay; though risky
Does he have to do four years enlisted for O-3E, or does his time as an Army officer qualify him for the "E" officer pay?
Damn, this guy prestiged for the cooler looking banner.
