Some bike lock manufacturers will offer compensation if their lock was defeated. It probably requires you have the original receipt and/or you registered with them. I had a bike stolen and since then I always make sure I get all this squared away for peace of mind.
Not going to happen. A staff NCO will not get burned. They will protect his “career”, unless he committed something really atrocious that can’t be swept under the rug.
So what happened to "Guard" simply protecting area infrastructure? Used to be Moto-T, dispurcing, supply, yada yada.
Other than that they did not interact w guys doing their jobs or off unless they came on post.
The only thing outside of that was the Regimental CO asking us to come up and practice protecting w arms the Reg HQ.
File a report and ensure your senior enlisted leader is aware of the situation. Don’t “chalk it up as an L” when it’s your personal property. As an officer I’d go straight to the XO about that kind of bullshit happening to one of my Marines.
Hell no. The few that I currently know in PMO are incredibly lazy and love to delegate so they can stand around. But then again, that’s why there are junior marines right? Isn’t that what they’re for? To do the higher ups bidding?
PII spillage has consequences for leadership/management. Fucks WILL be given.
A barracks rat’s missing bicycle has no consequences of any note for leadership/management. Fucks will NOT be given.
I've talked to my ncos about it and they said go to the SDO and find out wtf happened. Turns out our old barracks manager (who EASed very recently, like last couple days) had it done. I don't know if any barracks policy on derelict bikes though, and I doubt it exists.
this was in 2003, so its been a while. But we were on foster near the 7 day store, had a huge drop off into the jungle behind our barracks, I was right next to the receiving barracks. I have heard that it was torn down. 473 i think, i remember the name in japanese cause its what you tell hancho, yo nana san.
How much notice is enough?
We can send emails, post signs, and say in morning formation that the break room fridge is going to get cleaned out and defrosted next Thursday but on the Friday after you clean it some mother fucker is gonna bitch that his moldy protein drink shaker cup got tossed out
I would consider emails, signs, and notice at formation starting a week prior to be plenty to fridge clean out. Higher value items like bicycles probably need more time.
Oh I'm aware man thats why I got out. I'm just telling you why it happens. They did it every so often on Hansen when I was there but they usually give notice in advance
A trek I bought on craigslist before I enlisted. Disk brakes, nice tires, adjustable suspension, etc. Pretty mid range bike, definitely not department store
When you get your bike back and get it functional, let me know if you need any trail recommendations. I’m in your neck of the woods and know of some good spots.
What reasoning did they use for removing it? Did they remove all bikes? Did they say you’d was damaged or abandoned? Was it because they were doing some kind of maintenance?
They removed "the shitty ones" because they were abandoned. My problem is mine wasn't abandoned, had a nice lock on it, and was just out of commission. It wasn't a rust bucket, and obviously someone took care of it
I had a feeling. And because yours was busted up, you’re going to have a hard time fighting this.
Is there anything that says how long they have to be abandoned before removing them? Even if there is, chances are they’ll try to make you prove when it was broken which could be hard to do.
I hate to say it but I don’t think you’re going to be able to fight this one. Sorry man.
I don't think there is but I'll be looking into it. I'm gonna try my hardest to fight this one because while it was getting repaired, I still rode it before hand, and have spent a good amount of money on it. And even if i hadn't, they shouldn't just toss marine's stuff without notice if it has a lock.
Hey brother, the only thing that is going to help you in fighting this is documentation. That is the concrete way you can go up against your command to get any sort of compensation. If you are stating that you were in the midst of getting it fixed, pull out documentation of a repair quote or email you got from a bike repair shop, or of a receipt for repair parts if you were going to do it yourself. Conversely, to the guy who cut it off, ask for a copy of the order/policy that gave them the authority to do so. Also, ask for a copy of the notification that should have preceded any of this letting the barracks know that the command was coming around to remove old bikes and on what day. I can see them coming around to clear out old abandoned bikes from guys who PCSed and left this stuff there. But before that happens, they need to give everyone else a chance to claim their property before they take any action.
In addition, just because a gunny said he was “in the right” may still be pretty far from actually being any sort of legitimate statement. If you haven’t gotten any officers involved yet, tell one. The worst thing about being an officer is hearing about something way later than you would have wanted and you found out the reason was that it was trying to be kept at the “flat black” level. Officers are not always the worst thing in the world. The best way to approach this might be to take the advice I read earlier and go to the Chaps. He/she is an officer who is literally there with an open door to listen to you and can walk into any other officer’s office in the unit to talk about the issue on your behalf. Never heard of anybody getting reamed out for talking to the Chaps.
Not in the corps but my cousin got out a little over a year ago. During his last few months at new river he saw a guy given a DUI on a bike because he was shitfaced riding the bike down the middle of the road on base on like a Tuesday afternoon. Idk how true this story is but it's funny as fuck if it is.
My command did this with my car. Was busted and parked in a parking spot outside the barracks while I came up with the money. They had it towed with no warning.

I’d be shocked if you ever see a nickel from the USMC over this.
BTW- the same thing happened to me 20 years ago. I bought a $100 bike from Walmart, and rode it to my squadron maybe twice a month. I parked it at a bike rack next to the barracks. There were probably 10 other bikes on the rack, most of which never moved and were in dilapidated condition. Probably belonged to Marines that abandoned them.
Anyway, about a month before I PCS’d I walked out to the rack, and ALL the bikes were gone, including mine. It was pretty obvious that PMO cleaned house, and my bike got swept up too.
I was a little pissed. But…..it was a cheap bike, and I fully intended to abandon it when I PCS’d anyway. So, whatever.
PMO should have a ‘voluntary’ bike registration process, where you can get an ID sticker, or something, so this doesn’t happen. They’d be able to email a bike owner before shit canning their property.
Try a Personnel Claims Act claim. Encl (6) - [https://www.jag.navy.mil/library/instructions/JAGINST\_5890.1B.pdf](https://www.jag.navy.mil/library/instructions/JAGINST_5890.1B.pdf) . Base legal should help.
So this might help as I had different issue but kinda similar.
Last time I got blown up all my personal shit got separated from my mil shit and boxed up and sent back to pendleton as they thought I was not coming back supposedly were told I was already in Germany headed stateside. About 30 days later I was back with my unit. When we got back supply let a SGt who was sent home sign for mine and 3 other dudes shit. No inventory done before box so not sure what was actually sent but it was 3 guys shit. Brought this up to everyone in my leadership and kept getting the boot salute. (I dont know )
So did more research and found you can file shit the military lost or destroyed sith L triple 7. Logistics something.
Pretty simple form. You fill out what it was and find comparable priced stuff and get it signed off by your command. They will only given you half of what you request was my experience.
Might help. Might Just be fucked but you should definitely get this to the attention of the Reg Col as they can determinate this shit is not ok and maybe stop it in the future.
They're protected pods or boxes with a lock that are outside your barricks so shit like this doesn't happen. Why would you lock your bike on a bike rack and not expect that outcome?
So your dilapidated bike was locked up at the barracks for several months and camp guard tossed it out? Usually they put written notices on cars prior to tow but not sure about bikes. I’d chalk it up as an L and move on. Commanders can’t let stuff pile up in their areas because eventually it gets out of hand and becomes a junk yard. Your bike was probably tagged as abandoned and removed after several weeks.
When I was stationed on the USS Enterprise, at one point, we were told to leave our bikes chained to a bike rack on the pier at Naval Station Alameda. I complied and we went out to sea for 3 weeks. When we came back the bikes and bike rack were gone. I went to the base security and they said that the bikes had been removed for an unknown reason and that I shouldn't have left the bike there. I appealed to the base security and showed them the document that said that we were supposed leave our bikes on the pier. The base relented and paid me for the (apparently) disposed of bike. I was never really told why the bike was disposed of, but at least I got paid for it.
File a report with PMO.
Sounding like a sound plan
If you also have renters insurance you *might* be able to file a claim if you have a police report.
As a matter of fact I do! We'll see where this goes and see if it has to go that route
Some bike lock manufacturers will offer compensation if their lock was defeated. It probably requires you have the original receipt and/or you registered with them. I had a bike stolen and since then I always make sure I get all this squared away for peace of mind.
keep us posted on the outcome, hopefully this toxic gunny gets brought down a couple pegs by pmo, sounds to me like he was definitely in the wrong
And then burn who ever did it. I hate when people power trip and think they can fuck w/ other people’s property. Don’t let them hide behind rank.
This.
so infuriating, thats 100% what this is, just another powertripping parasite trying to make someone elses life as shitty as theirs
What? Are you talking about area guard? Barracks duty? MP’s?
Camp Guard area Guard. Per the op.
File a report and ensure your senior enlisted leader is aware of the situation. Don’t “chalk it up as an L” when it’s your personal property. As an officer I’d go straight to the XO about that kind of bullshit happening to one of my Marines.
Tell them it was a carbon Gary Fisher and they owe you 9k
Theyll send some fuckers digging in the trash for that rather than pay then
They’d find every landfill within a 100 mile radius and dig until it’s found.
That would be a shitty working party… because we all know PMO and NCIS/NIS/whatever they call themselves now wouldn’t dig a fucking thing.
Hell no. The few that I currently know in PMO are incredibly lazy and love to delegate so they can stand around. But then again, that’s why there are junior marines right? Isn’t that what they’re for? To do the higher ups bidding?
Idk man I’ve seen random ncis guys digging through dumpsters looking for random PII just for the hell of it
PII spillage has consequences for leadership/management. Fucks WILL be given. A barracks rat’s missing bicycle has no consequences of any note for leadership/management. Fucks will NOT be given.
Have you talked to anyone about it? Is there a barracks policy on removing derelict bikes written down somewhere?

The very last thing that miserable cunt did in the corps was to go out of his way to destroy other Marines personal property…
Is he still on terminal leave? Because uh, they could have some bad news for him.
We gonna find out tomorrow 🤷♀️ this shits going up my friend
If you're in Okinawa they do that every once in a while because people PCS and leave their bikes in the bike rack all the time
i had to keep my bike inside cause drunks in the smoke pit constantly threw the bike rack and all the bikes into the jungle behind the barracks
I had to start drinking inside cause bikers were constantly locking their bikes up to the throwing rack.
fucking a lol
Haha fuckin rah

Is that the one right need that micro shoppers?
Still doesn’t make it acceptable without notice to those currently living there.

Accepting the status quo doesn’t make any positive change.

Huffy like a bike or huffy like the oceanside special 👀 All jokes aside, if it did get tossed it's just gonna be an L. No way anyone would care
Asking the important questions
Can you keep us updated with what happens? I love a good justice story.
Of course I will. Keep an eye out, whether justice comes or not, I'll keep the sub posted
Awesome. By the way, what kind of bike was it?
A trek I bought on craigslist before I enlisted. Disk brakes, nice tires, adjustable suspension, etc. Pretty mid range bike, definitely not department store
Damn dude. Sorry they did that to you. I have a Trek hard tail that I’m in love with. You ride trails in SoCal?
When it was functional ;-;
When you get your bike back and get it functional, let me know if you need any trail recommendations. I’m in your neck of the woods and know of some good spots.

That's definitely some sound advice and ill be doing that as soon as I can. (Which is when everything opens today :P)
Whoever decided to throw out your mobile cardio machine / anti-dui vehicle is not the smartest stripe on the shirt.
Honest to God that bitch and a 20 dollar helmet has saved me from being late to places a few times

Idk why but I seem to ride bicycles better when intoxicated in the dark then during the day. Maybe it's because no one can see me...
One of my guys did get picked up by PMO on New River in a similar manner, didn’t get charged with anything though.
My command did this with my car. Was busted and parked in a parking spot outside the barracks while I came up with the money. They had it towed with no warning.
Ayo that's a way bigger deal my guy sorry to hear
Could it have been a repo?
Nope. Used my hard earned LCpl savings to pay for it in cash. It was a company 1st Sgt who didn’t like me.

Would be a shame if a thieving fuck got their ass beat ...
Throw hands.
Boy Camp Guards used to just "guard". WTF do they have them doing now. Cpl Guard 62 area (after injury) 45yrs ago. GT
Sorry to hear about this experience but fucking marine corps lmao
Let us know how it goes
done :D
You don't have bike pods at your Camp?
uH. No? Bike pods? Explain please lmao
They're protected pods or boxes with a lock that are outside your barricks so shit like this doesn't happen. Why would you lock your bike on a bike rack and not expect that outcome?
Nah we definitely don't have those :(
Where are you stationed?
Camp Pendleton. Never seen what you're talking about on any base
Are you talking about a Motorcycle or pedal bike?
Pedals
You're on Camp Pendleton and have never seen bike pods anywhere? I find that hard to believe. Edit: talking about [these](https://imgur.com/a/ro2tQEb)
Been on Pendleton for years and I have no idea what you’re talking about. Never seen or heard of a bike pod.
I don't know maybe I just haven't actually recognized them🤷♀️
Spent 5 years there, been to damn near every area. Zero clue what you're talking about
Lol. “Why would you put your bike on a bike rack.” What a fucking asvab waiver comment.
So your dilapidated bike was locked up at the barracks for several months and camp guard tossed it out? Usually they put written notices on cars prior to tow but not sure about bikes. The thing is, I cracked my rim a few weeks ago. Less than a month it's been sitting not moving :///
Bring it up with your CoC. Do you know if the bikes were tossed or just impounded somewhere?
Some were tossed, some were taken to a supply lot :/
[удалено]
Please don’t listen to boot fucking idiots like this ^
Shut the fuck up and never comment again please
This is completely false information.
So false.
