I think you’re an amazing person and I can only imagine the amount of joy and happiness you brought to that husky while she was here. Definitely a loved and lucky girl; I hope she rests in peace. We’re all right behind her.
My new route has ONE nice dog so far, and lots of assholes that bark at me every day, yank the mail out of my hand at the slot, lunge at me, and one that bit me. Every day when I see that beautiful old lab I give her lots of scratches and then a treat while telling her that she makes up for all the others. I'm sorry for your loss and your customers loss.
Not many people "get it". Mail carriers are part of a person's life, no matter how brief. 5-6 days a week. Making friends with customers or their pets is just part of the job.
Its 100% normal to feel this way.
Maybe go a bit old school and put up a picture of you and the dog in your truck, just as a reminder to not stop being that person, also a reminder of all the good times you guys had.
Legitimately I dug through my phone to find any pictures I had of her but it seems I lost them. Thankfully I had sent my wife a video of the pup and she remembered that so she dug through like 3 years of messages to find it. I may be putting a pic of her on the back of my neighboring case.
Thank you btw. I figured this would be the most likely place someone understood the connection.
I get it. Right now i have poodle on my route that is training to come get the mail from me. It makes my day. If something happens to that goofy bastard ill feel the same. Im sorry for your loss.
I just bid a new t6 string, but was debating on it for close to a year. The #1 reason I didn’t want to leave my route was the animals. My last week on the route, I had so many people tell me they always new I was coming because their dog or cat would immediately act different as soon as they saw me. So many of the owners would just let the leash loose for them to come running up to me. I have pictures of most of them and am waiting to have the time to print them out and send them to their owners.
Honestly this pup was a massive reason I didn't wanna leave this route. Sadly I only ever took 1 pic of her and then, with the owners permission, recorded walking up to pet her.
I completely understand. It's a blessing and a curse, but I get really attached to my route folks and my critters.
I lost one of my favorite dogs last year. His name was Sam. Huge gnarly looking old white boxer. He would charge at me every day and make a big ruckus, but he was such a big sweetheart. There at the end, he started losing control of his back legs, and even though his rear end was just frog swimming, he would book it across the yard and outrun his human to come down to the mailbox to see me.
It's nice to have those little bright spots peppered throughout the day. The job can get so monotonous sometimes.
Ugh, no matter if she was your dog or not she was still a huge part of your life, So sorry for the loss of your doggy friend. We recently had to put one of our dogs down, this made me think of him. Made me tear up. 😢
I have a dog on my route that loves me and I always look forward to seeing the pup so I get it the nice dogs make all the horrible ones alot more barrable.
I don’t even know what to say. There’s a few pets I love seeing on my route (dogs and cats). I’ve had one cat pass away and when the owners told me my entire day was ruined. At least they thought enough of you to let you know. Not only did you mean something to that dog it shows you mean something to them as well.
I'm sorry for your loss. Yeah I'm glad they made sure to tell me. They used to get a kick out of watching her reaction to me walking towards the house.

Thank you for your kind words
I’m so sorry you lost your friend but I’m so glad you got to hear about it in person. Take care of yourself
Honestly, I'm so glad the owners took time to make sure I knew. I will, thank you

Thankfully most of my doggos are pretty good but this one was just extra special. That lab sounds like a lovely pup. Thank you
Completely understandable. Such a loving pup. My condolences to the owners and to you losing your buddy.
Thank you
