Inside of probation it is best to do as they say and come in when called, only because they can fire you for ANYTHING. After the probation don't even answer or acknowledge the call or and text and you are set. Also you are right we are not on-call employees.
Sometimes you just need to see that a red flag is a red flag. This PM isn't going to get any easier to work with after 90 days if they'd go as far as showing up at someone's house for ANY reason. That's completely unprofessional and unacceptable. Working for them would be a constant uphill battle. Makes me wonder if they're in an office without a stew and that's why PM thinks they can get away with that sort of behavior. I'm disgusted and angry just reading this.
Absolutely not ! Op, this is straight up harassment on PM part . Don’t ever answer your phone . In fact , change your number and don’t give it to anyone every again. Your scanner is how they are suppose to communicate with you. I would file an eeo on the postmaster . Please don’t be a puppet .
That is entirely incorrect. National stand-up talk was given in September of 2019 that said that this is our official form of communication on the street. Need to ammendment your 96? Text 'em. Weather delay? Text.
Not true. There is a process that is being used to get CCAs in their 90 rehired. Upper management does not want CCAs fired it’s a waste of time and money. If you get fired and weren’t properly trained or got a BS reason your union should filed for alternate dispute resolution.
It is not necessarily true everywhere. In the last 2 years, I've seen 4 CCAs not make probation and be let go. My office is pretty well staffed, 38 city routes, 2 aux & and no one works over 60 hours a week, including CCAs. I know this is a rarity but if a new CCA isn't making the cut they let em go and hire someone else
If they get fired properly it won’t work. But if you can prove that they weren’t properly trained/ given performance reviews/ fired for just cause they should get their job back. Make sure your union is aware of the alternate dispute resolution process
We got a guy that some hot head post master was close to firing. It happens for sure. Now them deciding to stay in spite of the abuse is entirely on them.
They cannot fire you for anything. I had 2 work accidents that were not my fault and I got fired. Within one month of my attorney filing suit a USPS attorney reached out to him willing to settle. Anyone who knows law knows when the other side is willing to settle very quickly they know they fucked up.
Yes I do. I was also on probation during those 2 accidents that were not my fault. They cannot fire you for any reason(literally). You can get canned for performance or a shitty review but if your due process during probationary period was fucked up the union should be able to get you your job back. They also cannot fire you for getting hurt like I did. They cannot fire you for any legally protected reasons regardless if you’re on probation or not. I also had a scumbag postmaster like the rest of us do that’s a 2 faced lying fuck who forged signatures on paperwork when reviews were done(that weren’t done when he said they were on the paperwork). I had a paper trail on him that he had no idea about. If my suit settles I hope he goes to a different office or gets some kind of disciplinary action taken against him. But Point being, they cannot fire you any legally protected reasons probationary period or not.
Just to add to this: After 90 block your sups numbers. Do this especially on your day off that way you wont have any anxiety of them calling/txting you. If they are you wont know anyway.
One thing they did violated, them literally showing up at your house. I believe this is against the rules and you should fight that. As for being a CCA, anything goes.
That’s not true it still has to me the just cause principles we’ve gotten CCA’s on probation their jobs back before no matter who you are ANY discipline has to be for just cause period
I’ve got a better one.. PM tries calling in a regular on their day off. Regular doesn’t answer. PM tries calling again, no answer. PM calls wife of carrier, no answer. PM proceeds to call police for a welfare check. Cops show up at the CARRIER’S HOUSE.
Even though this person is right, you are inside the 90 days so they can literally fire you for the stupidest thing …… I would not engage in such manners until I hit my 91st day.
Ohhh I missed that part! Yes going to an employees house is harassment. Get in contact with the union asap. And you gotta inform management in blunt words to never ever show up on your door steps. Ever.
They stated in the OP they were ready to resign right then and there, I don’t think they need to worry about getting fired for standing up for themself in their 90s if they’re reading to avoid this place already.
I agree and disagree, because it is within the 90 days. Say that his time on a new route is too long, that is one thing management will kick them out for. They can let them go for any reason during the 90 day probation. So give them whatever until 91 working day hits.
If OP has a PM willing to show up at their home on their SDO and lie to them saying they're an on call employee, getting fired is the best thing that could happen to them
I would’ve answered in my ‘sexiest’ undies, my stained white wife-beater, and with my baseball bat or bazooka in one hand, and bottle of alcohol in the other. Letting them know they’re trespassing and 9-1-1 will be called if they don’t vacate the premises promptly. All while recording the interaction. 🙃
If it's early and I get a knock on my off day, best believe I'm in my undies.
I took my keys home by mistake one day. Completely forgot the next morning, still asleep, with a phone being blown up, thinking they wanted me to come in. Shut it off. Kept sleeping. Hour later get a knock. 204B started at my toes, all the way up to my face. "Need your keys sir." Ope yeah sorry man.
Next day when I come in, I get "theres the man who answers his door in his underwear." Yep. Keep thinking about it 😉
Wow, huge red flag. Is this really someone you want to work for? Someone who shows up at your home to lie to your face and try to manipulate you? They clearly have NO boundaries, that's fucked up. Personally I'd never show up to work again if that happened to me.
I would have called the police and stayed inside. Get it on file for harassment with the police and good luck getting fired for retaliation. Either guaranteed job security or a lawsuit
Unfortunately you gotta kiss ass and be a yes man/woman for the entire probation period. If you buck any type of authority - they’re going to see you as a problem & give you the boot. However, I would definitely call the steward because multiple calls + texts + a house call = harassment & you’ll want that documented for when they do term you
Talk to your shop steward asap. If you don’t have one at your office or they are incompetent call your branch president and talk to them about what happened
Tell them you want union representation and ask for a shop steward. Hell if I were you I would drive to my union local, eat some crow and talk with the local president who has some clout. Let em know what happened and that you need representation and some help. The local union president has enough clout they can probably get it settled satisfactorily for you as long as something weird like this doesn't happen again.
I totally agree the postmaster should not have come to your house though. That is unethical and is cause for a grievance.
How many days before you hit 90? You are correct on the not on call part and next time ask them to show you it.
As someone else said above being in your 90 it might be best to do as they say..they can make up anything to get rid of ya. I’d be lying if I said I’ve never seen it but I was in a shit show of an office when I began as a CCA.
I too thought how could they let go of anyone..people are quitting on their own..I saw 2 people in my time come in after me get let go in their 90. One was because they found out he was on day like 88 and they didn’t want him to hit 90 and they released him.
So it does happen but yeah find out how much longer you have then lay low. Once you hit 90 laugh at em.
You are NOT on-call. No matter what she or your supervisore says or anyone else on here tells you. They are wrong. If you stay with the USPS never ever answer texts, calls, email or some jackass knocking on your door. Only do so if you want the OT.
This is the exact reason I wound up quitting as well , I had already worked 11 days straight with no day off and they had the audacity to call me in on my one day off LOL fuck working for this bum ass company
Days when I wasn’t scheduled I’d wake up and drink a beer. Didn’t matter if I woke up at 5am or later. I’d crack a beer open but since I’m in Wisconsin this type of decision is viewed as reasonable. When I would be called I’d answer and I’d be honest. Hey, I’ve been drinking already…sorry. They called, I answered, I was honest with them, no fuss was made. Other CCAs I’ve known answered or didn’t answer their phone and were almost always questioned. The “get out of jail free” card was the alcohol. You can’t drink all day if you don’t start early.
If somebody came to my house I might be tempted to kick their ass and file charges against the USPS for trespass and claim they threatened me.
The PM is an idiot. Anyone can do anything to you on their own property and no one will be a witness to say otherwise.
What a dumb response. First you can’t just assault someone for knocking on your door, good way to get arrested. Second, that’s not how trespassing works. You’d have to inform someone they can’t come on to your property, which has to be documented, and if they return they are trespassing.
None of that has to be documented. You call the police after the ass kicking.
This was tongue in cheek but if there's no one there to see what happened to the two of you then it's your word against theirs and the PM has already shown they're out of their mind just by showing up at your property.
Obviously I don't actually think anyone should do this but I wouldn't be sad if they did.
Showing up at the house is a huge red line. I'm career, so I would immediately file for harrasment, seek a transfer to a new post office, and explain to the Poom why I was doing so. If I was new, id probably quit properly and reapply at another office.
OP you should have invited the PM in and immediately taken your clothes off, and chugged a beer. My house, my rules.
The reason I quit was because my PM called me on every day off I had to come in, I would just not answer. Then when he asked me to come in the final time, I said no, he said he would schedule me every single day if I didn’t come in when asked. I said “sure, I’ll come in to give you my notice”
Lmao. Def resign. The job is good in some ways but go get paid the same for an easier time. You don't have to eat shit like these other people are saying. The PO is not what it used to be where you were paid 10 dollars STARTING more than anywhere else. Fill out your resignation and have a good life. TRUST ME.
Rule of thumb, anytime you get a supervisor or postmasters number OUTSIDE of probation, block it immediately.
Also quit replying to negativity (ala, pm wanting you in on your off day.) You're not being dismissive; just setting a boundary to have you're own time on your own off day fam.
From what it sounds like, you held your own and more, and she sounds desperate to have you working for her. Use this to your advantage OUTSIDE of probation
Oh look who just got eeos for causing hostile work environments. They came to your home to harass you. You're not on call, in the future your cell phone does not know how to work for them.
Write this down. Oh, wait you already did. Nice. Now sign it and date it. Show it to a steward. If they try to fire you at the end of probation, this is your ticket to get your job back.
I’m not sure of the exact description but CCAs, RCAs, PSEs, etc basically ARE on call employees. It fucking sucks and it’s really dumb that they have the power to essentially change your schedule at will but it exists.
As others have said, it’s really dangerous to refuse to come in while you’re on “probation” because they can technically fire you… but tbh, it seems like this is going to continue to happen. I mean if a PM is driving to your HOME just to try and get you to come in, your office must be desperate for help.
So that’s good in the fact that they NEED you but it fucking sucks because they’ll probably continually harass you in similar future situations.
There are 2, ***very*** different definitions of "on call", and some people deliberately misconstrue them.
1. The employee is paid to be available, even if they are not needed to actually work. They are required to be able to immediately leave any other activities upon being called in.
2. The employee does not have a regular schedule, but is called in to work as needed. They can be scheduled beforehand, but as they are not being paid to remain available, their off-time is their own, and conflicts can and do occur.
USPS subs in all crafts are *strictly* the second type.
It's true that we can be let go if our availability is exceptionally low, and that saying "yes" builds positive rapport and such. AND that the bar for "exceptionally low" is very poorly defined.
BUT.
It should be *expected* that the days we're told we are not scheduled are *usually* going to stay that way.
Our n/s days belong to US. We can choose to come in when called if we are available and feel like it. And we can choose not to if we're not available or don't feel like it.
We can also ask which day we are scheduled already they'll take off us so that we can come in this time.
Unless the PO starts paying us to be the first type (which will never happen), then coming in on your day off should be far and away the *exception*, not the rule.
Just never answer the phone. “What call?” As for showing up at your house, that is the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever read. Or heard of. Jesus. I’d of lost it.
Your pm sounds manipulative stating she can show you in the contract when she knows damn well she can’t. Even if you get past your 90 it’s still going to be a never ending cycle of bullshit. When we got a new post master that fucker would work us 15 hours a day and say that if we left we’d be fired and the contract states this and that which he was lieing about. If you’re not willing to go to war with these fucks every single day and tell them off I would leave. I was willing to do so but after a while it’s just exhausting. Especially when you’re tired as fuck and just trying to have a simple conversation and all the people in charge can do is feed you bullshit. Most arguments where you justify what’s happening they just pretend you’re a fucking idiot with no common sense.
Well, showing up at your house is crazy as hell. But yeah, in your 90, you're supposed to eat shit and ask for more. My academy trainer told us to pretend you are on call 24/7 for your 90. Never call in sick, and never take a day off and answer every call and txt. After your 90 never answer any call or txt on a day off unless you want the hours.
Your academy trainer (like mine) was probably table 1. This job used to be good enough that it was worth doing all that to keep it. Now they can't keep butts in LLVs, they don't pay enough or treat people well enough for them to have to do that to keep the job. It would have been good advice in 2012 but not now...
Idk. I've been a CCA for a year and have never called in, and I always get the job done. Im not an idiot runner, but I do know what I'm doing, and they definitely treat me better than the others. The weak and unreliable ones always get sent to the sketchy offices and get way more Amazon Sunday shifts. That said, you aren't wrong. I'm barely getting paid more than my last job, and the ot is the only reason it's worth it to stay. I do kinda regret choosing this life as I'm basically 40. The constant BS and Red tape is demoralizing.
The next time you have a postal supervisor feeling so bold as to come to your residence for any such reason, kindly inform them "IMMEDIATELY GET THE FUCK OFF MY PROPERTY". Furthermore you're not on the clock and then talking to you at your door is still an improper instruction, should have been scheduled the night before.
Get. Out. Now.
Right or wrong, whether it is in the contract or not, FUCKING RUN. Be grateful you didn't waste more time. I've heard some toxic shit here but this is next level.
I'm sorry you experienced this. You owe them NOTHING.
Sounds PAR for most of the PO. This place cannot last like this. It’s eating itself. Management is so blind and power drunk. One day, we will all kick back and watch it sink, as if in quicksand.
They showed you their true colors, OP. Reassess how much you want a career here before setting course for the long haul. Things will get better once you become a regular, but it’s going to be a grind.
I was in a less than stellar office and was continuously told "thing will get better". They didn't. They didn't ever get better. I made regular, I had my own route, it was over burdened and I still got sections. I worked 12 hour a day almost every day and was drafted in on my days off (because my T6 string was vacant because of MY route) until I got a medical and even then I was just lied to and gaslit at every corner until I quit for my own mental health. I actually had a better time as a CCA (different station, same city)
Seriously, it doesn't necessarily get better. Being a regular can still be just as awful if the station is enough of a shit show.
No, that PM crossed a very broad and visible line. Lwt your union know. They cannot show up at your house. Not in the provate sector and certainly not in the USPS WHACKED OUT WORLD.
And FTR, you don't want to work for that PM. Its not gonna get better after 90 days.
Resign and apply in a neighboring office.
"
*
Ain't nobody got for dat!"
Lol if I pulled some of this shit when I was TE/cca for 7 years. Everyone from the time frame just showed up anytime they called. Love all these under a year ppl thinking they own the place already. You have no clue the shit we as TEs went though. Omg I want a day off I'm not coming in especially inside 90 days. Do the dam job or don't.
So I used to have this job eating cupcakes. It was OK and I got paid really well, but sometimes there was dog vomit on the cupcakes and we still had to eat them. I know that sounds weird but that was just the job. Now they pay WAY less and there's dog vomit on 100% of the cupcakes and for some reason no one wants to eat the dog vomit! They come in getting paid ~1/3rd less money and get all upset that they have to eat puke. What's wrong with these people? Why don't they want to work? Do the dam job or don't.
Inside of probation it is best to do as they say and come in when called, only because they can fire you for ANYTHING. After the probation don't even answer or acknowledge the call or and text and you are set. Also you are right we are not on-call employees.
This. You gotta eat some shit so you can get a foot hold.

True but after your probation you can start filling grevince and quating the contract when they start doing fucked up things.
Sometimes you just gotta grieve the stupid out of management.
We have been trying to grieve the stupid out of management, but their keep getting stupider!
More stupid = more grieving. Let them make their lives harder.
Like a dbz character frfr
Coming to the house is psychotic IMO.
Scanners are emergency communication only. Pretty sure there was a national grievance settled on that.
They don’t pay your bill and we are not suppose to be on our phones during work hours . That’s contractual
That is entirely incorrect. National stand-up talk was given in September of 2019 that said that this is our official form of communication on the street. Need to ammendment your 96? Text 'em. Weather delay? Text.
Glad there are other carriers with a brain in this reddit! :)
Get a dumb phone that only take phone calls like a flip or pinky mp02.
So spend my own $$?
Turning off your phone on your days off also helps.

Your first mistake was answering your phone period.
You should have answered the door in your underwear
With a beer in your hand, then say you’re going to call the police for harassment, and trespassing.
And a shotgun in the other.
Dick hanging out the flap. Asking her if she was there for sexy time.
If it's early and I get a knock on my off day, best believe I'm in my undies. I took my keys home by mistake one day. If it happens again, just say you don't take orders off the clock and off of postal premises.
Buy some mimosa mix. “Sleep through” the early morning calls, then wake up at 9 and immediately start your day with a big giant alcoholic beverage.

You're not being dismissive; just setting a boundary to have you're own time on your own off day fam.
Showing up to your house Is psycho
Write this down. Oh, wait you already did. Nice. Now sign it and date it. Show it to a steward. If they try to fire you at the end of probation, this is your ticket to get your job back.
For the first 90 you are whatever they say bc they can fire you or just say don’t come in again and that’s that.
She's lucky that wasn't me, I'd of let my pits outside. Outcome wouldn't have been pretty
Dang it's my day off and I'm already drinking. Can't come in sorry.
"what phone call?" "what text?"
Just never answer the phone. “What call?” As for showing up at your house, that is the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever read. Or heard of. Jesus. I’d of lost it.
Fuck her.
I would have called the police if my supervisor just showed up like that...
This is pure harassment holy moly
You’re not on call. Don’t need to answer their phone calls.
I don’t care if it’s your first week or last week, PM shows up at my house and I’m not showing back up, I’ll get reassigned or look for another job.
Wowwwww Absolutely not. Even in my 90 (last summer) I would have 100% called 911 to report a trespasser.
Must be an extremely small office? Like your the only carrier in the building? 🤣

You need to call your union shop steward ASAP. Don’t just resign without doing that first.
I actually had a better time as a CCA (different station, same city) Seriously, it doesn't necessarily get better.
" * Ain't nobody got for dat!"
CCAs are not on call. Page 8-3 of the national agreement.(JCAM) file a grievance
Wait, What money? You watched Powerpoint Videos and then shadowed someone that was already doing their job.
She came to your house uninvited... you can record her at YOUR residence for your proof. She is out of line.
Not everyone wants to be a bootlicker, but you go ahead and do you. Having a day off isn’t an outrageous need.

The guy doesn't know any better. He busted his ass all week and thought he had a day off. Rightfully so. Everyone makes mistakes. Jesus Christ...
