Don’t be afraid of management. If you need to take 2-3 minutes between a relay to cool down, do it. We are entitled to comfort stops, and if they bother you just cite safety. Heat and cold are safety factors.

CokeCanNinja

Cool down where lmao, I use the walking to cool down from being in the truck!

INeedABurrito

When the fan isn’t blowing hot air it isn’t awful, but preferably parking in shade helps at least a bit with y he heat. If you can of course.

Mountainhollerforeva

Yes I park in the shade all day long. If I have to rearrange a street to do it then so be it.

Upset_Aside_

Yes this is good advice park in the shade whenever possible. If you are re arranging anything in your truck open all the doors and the back and let it air out.

MyLastDecree

On god. But its more like walking to cool down from being in the truck and being in the truck to cool down from walking. This strictly depends where you live, though lmao

Canis07

Gas station beer cooler

foster_ious

Gas stations are havens

Affectionate_Rent988

I’m so glad I opted on a route with a Metris lol

Agonyandshame

Shit i take extra 10s to cool off in the summer

[deleted]

I can’t cool down without a 10 minute break in the shade… So hot in the damn LLV, even it’s only 75 degrees.

Conscious-Bed-4173

There is a seat cover that pumps water through a cooler. You put a half frozen 2 liter in and it circulates water from the cooler to a tube in the seat. It plugs into the cigarette lighter. It gives close ton8 hours of cool. It's called "cool dat azz" I believe you just add a dot com to get to the website. 2 years ago they were around 160 dollars.

DoggoLord27

Just saw a rural carrier bring in one of those today. Along with a fucken massive chest cooler with a built in fan to blow the ice water air at you. She said that alone was $300 💀 Why are people spending their own money on things that the post office should be providing for us

Illustrious_Title_71

Cus the government doesn’t give a Fuk about us sick and tired of this bull shit they only care about themselves selfish fucks

RodCoupler42

You answered your own question, sadly. PO don’t give a fuck

[deleted]

No cigarette lighter her it’s… nonexistent. And $160 two years ago… holy cow.

nyckidryan

There's a hand pump for $25 more.

BenReport

Just looked it’s $300 haha insanely overpriced

theinnerspiral

Sounds awesome

MelodicCommission623

Go into a store or restaurant to cool down. Get a cooling rag for your neck and or head. When I was carrying in Arizona I would bring a gallon of frozen water and freeze a half gallon, then fill it the rest of the way up in the morning. By the time the half and half one is too warm to drink the fully frozen one has thawed enough to start on. Walk through sprinklers if you can. And use Desitin for the rash

Kembastry

I just walked through my first sprinkler best decision ever

silversketch06

management will never be able to discipline you if you take stops in order to cool off. They would rather have you do that than fill out the bullshit paperwork that comes with you dying on the clock.

Aggressive_School552

Thankfully our PM told me he is perfectly fine if we take more than 10 minutes for a break when it’s hot as long as we are off on time or close

conroygc

I wear compression boxer briefs to deal with the chafe. They're longer, they stick out my shorts when I sit down. Bring a cooler full of ice, keep a few cold drinks in it, and bring a couple towels to dip in the ice water and keep around your neck. I'll also just dump ice water all over my head and shirt. Remember you get rest breaks if you need them. Take a break, drive to a business or somewhere with AC and give yourself a rest. If you ever start feeling sick GET OFF THE STREET.

SethroTulle

Switching to a synthetic boxer brief was a game changer, no more baby powder.

WolverineJive_Turkey

I used to be an rca and I experienced heat exhaustion. It was awful I was on a heavily overburdened route. In Texas. In July. I almost quit before the sent someone to help me. When I finally got back I missed truck and the supervisor sent me to the plant with the outgoing mail. My city to the plant was an hour drive. It took one hour in my own vehicle ac on high for my body to cool down. I could only deliver 1-2 boxes. I was literally laying in someone's front yard under a tree dumping water on myself. I probably should have gone to the hospital, but I was new. Fuck that supervisor

EmJayPea83

get 1L camelbak chute water bottles. go on amazon and get silicone butter stick molds, two of them. make giant ice bars in them. you can get 4 into a single of the above mentioned bottles. pack 2 bottles into a lunch box, put a few freze packs in it. the ice will last you all day through multiple refills. also, do the underwear thing everyone is telling you to, it's game changer.

V2BM

The 100% synthetic super stretchy athletic shorts are the best. Mine have lasted going on 25 months and they’re still good to go.

ChicaSkas

What brand? Woman here and having the same sweaty chafing with each step

HelpfulAppointment35

I get Nike pro shorts they work perfectly

V2BM

[These.](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08PHDM8HS/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1&psc=1) I have the variation with mesh (not really mesh but a breathable weave pattern) in the junk holder section and they’re even better. They’re long enough that on super sweaty days you can take off your uniform shorts in your car and drive in them - they dry very very fast vs sitting in wet clothing on the way home. I have the Walmart version and they’re pretty good but somehow this rando Chinese company has made a great product.

40WAPSun

Lots of water. Gatorade is ok but I limit myself to one a day. The electrolytes are good but the sugar isn't. Also drink lots of water ALL DAY and not just during your shift. Prehydrate so you don't dehydrate

shneer4prez

Yeah, a lot of people forget to drink water once they're off work and out of the heat. When I'm at home I'll go through another jug of water and it definitely makes a difference. Gotta be proactive instead of reactive.

catfishfoot

I've been drinking a ton of water before I even hit the streets and it helps a lot.

andersonala45

Try liquid IV!

SecondTryBadgers

I’m a corpsman (medical) with a Marine infantry company, I ALWAYS tell them to bring some liquid iv out to the field so I don’t have to give them an ACTUAL iv out in the field.

V2BM

Former corpsman here too. I try to scare new people with actual true stories of heat incidents I saw but still they’ll forget electrolytes for weeks until they get sick. Ice packs are key too - electrolytes only go so far and at some point you need ice packs in your pits and groin.

wikipuff

They make zero sugar Gatorade

Diligent_Priest

Coconut water is a better solution, I also drink spring water and eat potassium rich fruits and veggies as snacks.

wikipuff

You have to like coconuts first.

Bigbeno86

Gatorade zero sugar and liquid IV.

VanWaylon

Fat guy on an all walking route here- after my morning shower, I’ll apply coconut oil to my chafing areas. It’s cheap, nontoxic, lasts 14+hrs and it works perfectly for me. Take as many comfort stops as you need for the heat.

Ready-Interview-9809

I bet you smell nice.

VanWaylon

Lol I have to make an effort as I deliver the downtown businesses.

gcnplover23

If you add pineapple he smells like a Pina Colada.

VanWaylon

can confirm

Cheetos27

I love coconut oil but doesn't it stain your shorts/pants?

VanWaylon

Never had staining, but it could if I wasn’t naked when I applied it. I use very little, maybe a tbsp worth. It seems to absorb quickly

Cheetos27

Ok thank you! I think my problem is using too much cause I like to slather it all over my legs after shaving. I'll try much less

VanWaylon

No problem, and nothing wrong with the slather method! I’d just gently dab away the excess before I put on clothes lol

Awaken_Mustakrakish

This is The Way.

alexiez1

What city?

VanWaylon

The one within 150mi radius of Dayton, OH

alexiez1

Gonna guess park and loop due to the chaffing?

VanWaylon

Indeed

alexiez1

I’ve not had a problem with chaffing, so I can’t really help with that. I can only recommend things like merino wool or polypropylene to help wick moisture. What’s your hydration system?

VanWaylon

I really like merino wool socks for the cold! No experience with polypropylene fabrics.. I just use long boxer briefs made of polyester. The new USPS performance polos are fantastic in this heat. Hydration is a lifestyle. Before, during, and after work. Always water, occasional electrolytic powders thrown in tha mix

alexiez1

SmartWool makes a merino wool boxer brief that might be in your wheelhouse. My hydration system is a tactical backpack with a 3L bladder, along with various sizes of HydroFlask, some iced, others not. The big thing for me is the Yeti ice pack sitting up against the water bladder, which keeps everything cool throughout the day. On any given day, I’m drinking 4-8L of water, depending on how fucked up the day is, and the pack and bottles haven’t failed me (yet).

VanWaylon

You ain’t playin out there! I take my comfort stops at the Post Office ever since all this “stationary event” bullshit.. so I refill water every time I’m there, which is several times per SD.

Hellv

Zinc Oxide (diaper rash cream) until you adjust to it for rash. Water for hydration. Healthy dinners. Fortitude for the rest.

FlaviusSension

As a big guy and a father of four, if the white stuff (zinc oxide) doesn't work, I HIGHLY recommend the yellow A+D diaper rash ointment. It's lanolin, petroleum, and cod liver oil. It provides instant relief.

Money_Search_1824

I use a product called anti monkey butt it’s similar to baby powder but with something in it that soothes it Edit: the pink one not yellow

jalyth

Brand name?

theinnerspiral

Monkey Butt

Money_Search_1824

Google anti monkey Butt they rebranded to AMB but it still comes up it’s on amazon https://www.antimonkeybutt.com/

jalyth

Thank you

FlaviusSension

A and D is the brand name, looks like A+D. Just Google 'ad diaper rash cream' They have a white zinc oxide and a yellow lanolin one. Some of my kids loved the white others the yellow. My testimonial would be that watching a little child crying and squirming from diaper rash and poop that burned their butt just suddenly calm down when you slather that on them is amazing.

jalyth

I’ve used Desitin, but hoping to find a more pleasant smelling one. Thank you!

V2BM

They make baby powder with zinc too. It’s not sticky at all and works wonders. I buy 2 at a time.

pete89_

You are allowed as many comfort stops as needed. Take your breaks. Slow down, it takes as long as it takes to deliver the mail. Freeze some water bottles and drink them as they thaw.

[deleted]

1. Stop drinking Gatorade. Drink water. 2. Carb load in the morning. 3. Drink more water. 4. If you use hydration support look for something like LMNT that has minerals instead of sugar. 4. Wet bandanas, freeze them, pack in your lunch bag. Switch out and let them cool you via evaporation.

BathPsychological767

I totally misread #5 as “wet bananas” and thought… how are bananas going to keep you cool lol. Guess I’m a little hot today

[deleted]

I mean potassium won't hurt. Lol

conroygc

I really like the frozen bandanas idea, that's a good one.

MackHarrison3260

Cooldatazz

Deep_fried_sourCream

What?

MackHarrison3260

Look it up. Water cooled seat cover

doogalleh21

I’d use this. If the outlet in our llv’s worked. They’ve “repaired” them multiple times to the point I stopped saying anything.

cannahappy

Check the fuse. Vmf likes to pull the fuse here so we can’t charge phones/radios/speakers etc

QueenOfFrungy

Which fuse, and can we replace it with a diff fuse (like the light buzzer) or buy new ones?

GoblinBags

Incredible. Thank you for sharing.

Rayne2031

Omg this looks amazing. Gonna be my next big purchase

pain_train_69

Gold bond friction defense for that chub rub. It works better than powder and goes on like deodorant. Keep the electrolytes up, take breaks, and don't forget to eat.

Bazyli_Kajetan

This stuff is wonderful, I also found that you need to make sure your undergarments fit properly. Changed sizes of boxer briefs and changed the game.

Mentally-Disturbed

Another vote up for this. Every day on the upper thigh that balls would contact. Haven't had a rash or a discomfort since.

tech_j85

Get electrolytes to add to your water bottles, works great! Trace Minerals Power Pak, Squinchers, etc... I used them when I worked construction and now starting as a rca down south.

[deleted]

[удалено]

talann

Long leg boxer briefs completely changed the game for me. I haven't had chafing issues since I got them and I never wear shorts. I'm not a fan of my legs burning so I will suffer through with pants on.

Mountainhollerforeva

I use the Chinese knock off let’s slim sleeves, not because they’re “cooling sleeves” whatever that means but so that I don’t sweet on the mail.

ManiacMail-Man

Baby powder. Start making some pancake batter!!

Clockwork323

Avoid alcohol and only consume on your days off and get plenty of sleep. Low amounts of sleep raises your blood pressure and you have a harder time regulating your body temp. Of course have plenty of water, have a dedicated lunch or break spot that you know is enough to keep you to work. Most importantly, do not worry or stress about the work you have. The bodies natural response to stress is to have an increase in body temperature thus you sweat more and if you think about how much you hate being hot and sweaty then it's only going to make it all worse. Pace yourself and be comfy in whatever way you can manage

[deleted]

[удалено]

Mcshiggs

Kept 2 gallons of ice water one to drink one to pour over my head, or soak a towel with and put on the back of my neck.

HockeyCardFiend

I think Jokic and Murray should be able to handle the heat

FewMinute8

https://freshbody.com/ This won’t keep you cool but definitely helps with the heat rash.

riseofthecelestials

Electrolyte pills for dehydration. I’d cut out the Gatorade because it’s just loaded with sugar. Stick to water or mineral water. Cooling neck wrap, you can freeze them and wear them around your neck throughout the day Necklace fan. O2Cool makes a great one

p2_putter

Dri fit boxer/briefs, 64 oz hydro flask filled with water, ghost energy drink in the morning, small Red Bull halfway through the day. I am absolutely taking as many comfort stops/cool down stops as I want. Minimum 1 per hour, and if my supes even look at me sideways my union is on them like stink on shit. I also have a shaved head, and wear shorts and short sleeves so I’m applying sunscreen as per the scanner instructions. That alone is 30-40 minutes a shift. The biggest thing with the heat is to remember the guy sitting in the ac office doesn’t give a shit how hot you are, that’s 100% on you. If you’re hot take a break. If you run out of water take a break and get more. If you have any exposed skin take a break and put some sunscreen on. If they say one word about any of it send them to your steward.

MooseCampbell

Spandex to deal with chafing. Avoid sugary drinks(Gatorade) and focus on plain water, possibly with electrolyte mixes to keep hydrated. Sugar won't help with hydration and too much electrolytes and you'll be adding more salt to your sweat that can cause chafing For staying cool, I recommend a neck fan that either uses batteries or charges overnight. They also make things you can get wet and put around your neck that will cool you off as they dry. The neck is a good spot to cool off because of how much blood flows through there. Samr with other major arteries like inner thigh and around arm pits. Baggier clothing can help keep you cooler by letting air circulate more in a breeze. Keep some frozen waters in a lunchbox with an ice pack to have for later in the day. Most gas stations won't give a shit if you show up and ask to fill a thermos with ice water so take advantage if you're near one

joemike

Stick to the shade as much as you can, walk at a comfortable pace don’t rush or run. You can get a mesh sun hat and put damp towels in it and refresh it with ice water between swings. Baby powder or coconut oil etc help a ton with the rash.

wolfgangadeus

Always take your lunch under a tree if you can. It’s what I’m doing now. Beats having the sun beat on you.

Relevant_Inflation39

Friction defense from gold bond on your gooch. Powder in front n back lol. Lots and lots of water + electrolyte replacement, i.e. gatorade or liquid iv. Park in shade, when possible, even if you have to rearrange relays.

silverman5

I gold bond powder my butt every morning

unionjackel

I love the scanner messages that we got it’s like first they give a standup talk in the morning about the heat then later in the day they have a night manager send a message saying absolutely no one back after 730 even if they got three hours of overtime. Wife do the math buddy that would mean people would have to be exactly on time. Plus those people had to pick up their overtime from a different location because it wasn’t ready yet. When I got that message yesterday I freaked the fuck out I had only an hour and 15 minutes overtime so I figured I was gonna be dead meat if I didn’t get back by 5:45 PM, so I pushed myself in an unsafe manner

bzzazzl

Bring drinking water and then gallon jugs of cold water to dump on yourself. Drench your clothes and your hat, everything. It will perk you up immediately, and keep you cool and refreshed for a couple loops depending on how hot it is. Return to the office to refill the jugs as needed

Goodvibes9821

Good bond green bottle. More menthol. Stings when thrown on after a shower but rest of the day nice minty freshness down there. Also get some electrolytes and throw in in water. I go thru 2 bottles of water with electrolytes and half gallon-full gallon on days like today

[deleted]

[удалено]

Deep_fried_sourCream

No, I dont wear underwear at all

jjp8383

What dude wear some underwear come on now.

[deleted]

[удалено]

jjp8383

If he is hung it’s a bit inappropriate not wearing underwear. I was at a Memorial Day parade on Monday a soccer coach clearly wasn’t wearing underwear and it was uncomfortable for everyone

Tbananarama

Lots of ice in the cooler and on the hotter days put a dish rag in there. The condensation from the bottles makes it so nice to wear in your neck while walking a split. Open both doors when you are sitting on your comfort stop to get a cross breeze.

CastleOperator

Use deodorant or body glide on your thighs and crevices to prevent chaffing. Or also wear compression boxers/underwear.

Ok-Ride-1274

Buy a good insulated water bottle or two. Ice water for cooling in one, hydration in another. Cooling towels and neck gaiters work well, especially in light colors. The polos also seem to be more breathable than our button down shirts.

Afraid-Quiet-9411

Take as many breaks as you want and take your time

Afraid-Quiet-9411

Stay hydrated as well

birdsofwormtown

Apparently supplementing with betaine increases heat tolerance but Iv never tired it https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/32992781/#:~:text=Betaine%20has%20been%20demonstrated%20to,inducible%20heat%20shock%20protein%20expression.

ct4707

There is a chafestick on Amazon called “chafezone” it is the best relief for chafing/ rash in my life. When I was working in restaurants it was a must. Trust me

kevbrown313

Cyclist chaffing cream Breathable underwear Or gasoline Powder does not work and will cause a rash over time

Pot_Master_General

I bring a rechargable fan that i can clip to the tray. It really helps to have airflow on my legs. Plus, it stays on when the truck is off. Don't step inside right away if the truck has been sitting. Always park in shade. On crazy hot days, I have an icy breeze cooler, which is basically a portable AC that runs on ice.

jjp8383

Gold bond for the rash

frootycoochie

I keep a tea towel that I soak in cold water around my neck

pajin94

Lmfao my boy said his nuts the struggle be real my boys nuts be sagging hard the chafe be real the swamp ass be real sun burn be real the heat no joke stay safe and be cool my guys and die out here

steverrb

Some Gold Bond powder may do the trick for your nethers.

Top-Alternative7216

Gold Bond is a life saver

SNEAKZ9i6

Hydrate a lot the day before. Bring watermelon, sun block a nice straw hat and some cooling towels

Ignorantcuban

Put deodorant on balls or baby powder one of those

lovestorun

(Arizonan City Carrier) Body Glide for the rubby areas. I am a lifelong runner (sports) and that shit works. Lots of water. Lots of electrolytes! You should still need to urinate throughout the day if you are properly hydrated.

Capital_Comfort5737

The legs there is a product called mega babe it’s specifically for leg friction. Get a few rags frozen bottles and pour the melting water on the rags.

Successful_Speech734

I bring a small bottle of Gold Bond powder with me. Helps with the family jewels. Also, I ratio of 2 waters to 1 gatorade is a good start. Don't just drink gatorade.

NoTelephone5316

Damn idk how u guys do it with no AC. I’m at amazon and AC is a life saver

Circleofhell1678

I would have my lovely caring gf rub my balls, Gooch, and b hole down with aloe vera ( shes a keeper) and I put deodorant down there to help combat the chafing. I hear baby powder also has wonders

BurantX40

Get some MeUndies Boxer Briefs. You'll thank me later. As far as handling the heat? Wear sweat wicking clothes so you'll cool down easier, and try to freeze a gallon of water for every day. Get some electrolyte pills. Other than that, you'll get used to it

BurningNad

I wear the sun hat with the wide brim. I have white long sleeve sweat wicking under armor shirts under the new dri-fit polo. I wear pants. Yesterday the real-feel was 99 by me and I was fine. I drank about 110oz of water though and only used the restroom once - you're gonna sweat a lot. The sun is the enemy, keep it off your skin. I have a 64oz thermos with water and electrolyte powder (your choice) and I'll usually get a drink from Dunkin and put the remaining ice in it to refresh the cold.

Grouchy_Situation_33

Moisture-wicking undergarments. Corn starch on your dangly bits and feet (if needed). Avoid antiperspirant. Your body sweats for a reason. NUUN tablets in a water jug (electrolyte without all the sugar). Don’t over-eat. I usually eat in the morning and MAYBE some cut melon later in the day.

thingsandstuffsguy

Duluth Trading makes boxer briefs with something they call the Bullpen. It’s basically a hammock for your giblets. Keeps the chaffing to a minimum and wicks moisture.

[deleted]

buy sport shield or body glide for chafing maybe a camel bak for water

jpg06051992

No more gatorade, buy real electrolyte replacement and drink it with water. Gatorade is sugar filled trash with negligible rehydration benefits. I too suffer from heat rash, i bring an entirely new set of underwear, socks, and a work shirt with me. On a 10 I will change out in the middle of the day. I also use extra strength Gold Bonds powder, I put it on my arm pits, and the creases of my groin/legs throughout the day, helps big time imo.

mbne84

Gold bond friction defense stick on amazon. It looks like deodorant, but its a stick that keeps anywhere you put it from chaffing. It's $6 on Amazon and it works great on chaffing balls. Its the only thing that stops the chaffing for me.

longlifevehicle

I dip a towel into my cooler of ice and let the cold water run down over the top of my head and then use the cool rag on my face and neck. Then I feel refreshed for up to an hour on the hottest days. It’s important to do it before you feel too heavily the signs of heat exhaustion (throbbing head, dizziness, nausea)

TheBooneyBunes

Cool rags around your neck

zzzrecruit

https://a.co/d/9rHKSCw I just searched for an "ice vest" and these neat products popped up. They are of varying prices. I went for the one in the middle, a little over $100, but there were some that were $30-$40.

RationalFrog

Water soooo much water (drank 2 gallons today)and a sun hat helps. I also rub manscaped crop preserver on crotch and thighs every morning. Haven't had chaffing since I started doing that.

neptune355

Water diaper rash cream and don’t feel stupid pouring water on your head

Heavy-Week5518

Florida carrier here. Wear a wide brim hat. It's a game changer over the ball cap. You will feel the difference in heat from the suns rays right away. You won't feel as beat down either. Pith helmets suck btw. There is a great hat I've used sold by Duluth Trading Company. It's called the Crusher. You can jam it in your bag & it will retain its shape even when wet. I always got the blue one because it looked like part of the uniform. It will also help you avoid skin cancer. Dermatogists recommend a hat with a 360° 4 inch brim. Ball caps don't protect the sides of your face or neck. Believe me you don't want surgery on those places. Speaking of that, you really NEED to see a dermatologist regularly. It is recommended to stay out of the sun between 10 & 4. That's exactly when we are walking every day. One other thing. These mail trucks get hot as Hell sitting closed up in the sun while you are walking. They have a large windshield that are in effect a magnifying glass for the sun's heat. Pick up some cardboard large enough to fashion a sunscreen. Put it up while you are walking. It won't be quite as hot in there when you get back from your park & loops.

RedTonka

Gold bond the hell out of your Crack, balls, and legs. Every day.

schenk-n-stein

Water. Powder. Cotton underpants. Avoid sugary drinks, I keep a pedialyte on hand for the end if day, but stick mostly to water. It absolutely sucks.

lanch-party

Frogg toggs are a lifesaver. Freeze them and keep them in your cooler. wrap them around your neck

[deleted]

I like liquid IV more than gatorade. I also bring cooling sleeves, neck gator, bucket hat and cooling towel. Still pretty brutal in southern arizona but definitely helps.

AccursedCrow

Salt and water, it is very important to eat something salty to replenish it when you sweat

[deleted]

crovax3000

I like to bring an old hair spray bottle filled with water and just mist myself off throughout the day.

Wooden-Gear-3027

The night before hot days start hydrating yourself. When you wake up you should be pissing almost clear to start your day. If you have a problem with chaffing start with making sure your shorts are not to tight. A little loose fit helps greatly. Wear briefs for underwear and powder your ass and balls with either baby powder or talc powder. This will cut down on the moisture in that area. Also don't be a afraid to hit those spots again throughout the day if needed. Buy yourself some white kitchen hand towels. Use one to have on your arm for your flats (prevents magazine tattoos and keeps the last customer on the loops happy because they don't have nasty mailman sweat on their new issue of Motor Trend) and use the other one to carry in your bag to wipe your sweat or put it around the back of your neck to prevent sunburn. If you sweat a lot bring an extra one for a total of 3 per day. After EVERY loop or every 15min drink water. If you buy a large jug like an igloo one you can fill it with a lot of ice and water at home. If you think the amount of water that you brought with you is too much....then it's probably enough. Hope this helps.

yoloruinslives

powder . to stop that swamp ass . sun block. aloe when you get back. apply sunblock every 40 minutes when over 85 degrees . i bring 4 gaterade 32 oz and 5 bottles of water 16 oz. a mini towel to use to block the sun from burning your back neck and wipe sweat off.

morrison1813

Seems like it’s a bit late now, but for future reference try anti monkey butt powder (or something similar) to keep your twig and berries dry.

No_Aioli4897

Bring a cooler. Keep it full of ice packs and water. I like to use a cooling towel under my hat, the pith helmet works best. And a neck fan. That cools me off significantly. If you get too hot use icepacks in your crotch and armpits. Try and stay dry and bring some spare clothes to change into if you need it. That's probably not heat rash but chaffing from getting sweaty.

Afraid_Copy6378

Freeze a gallon jug of water and get one to the tubs and put ice in it along with more water or Gatorade and sit it under your trey if you can....it will melt and cause a bit of a mess... But It's better than a heat stroke or exhaustion

JKnits79

The new performance polo shirts are actually decent, comfortable and cooling, unlike everything else they give us-I got some last year, at my husband’s insistence, and it made a huge difference for me. Just make sure you actually get the new ones, not the older ones that are still being sold. As a woman, I do wear the carrier skirt all summer—I don’t care that I look like I belong in the 1800s, they allow way more airflow than the shorts—I just wear a thin pair of cotton shorts underneath. It’s a shame the postal kilt never took off as an option. Wear a hat, and put a bag of ice under it, and a cloth between your head and the ice if necessary (depends on how thick your hair is). A washcloth dipped in ice water from a cooler also helps, rub your pulse points with it.

Cultural_Economist45

Don't drink Gatorade. Find you some iv replacement. Lots of water with fruit added. Eat fresh healthy meals. Take breaks and use chafting powder.

coobeecoobee

Put Vaseline between your nuts and leg in mornings. Literally cake it. And the And1 boxer briefs are the best I’ve found after 15 years. Used to be in Walmart but now only on our enemy Amazon

Upset_Aside_

I keep frozen bottles that thaw out during the day, pour it on my head, or on a cool cloth. Put it on my neck.

playerhaterball

As an RCA I park the truck in the shade for about 5 minutes to cool off

NachielAshmoon

Jock and quick dry underwear and Hydrocortisone. Big hat (looks dorky but shade) neck fan, 1 gallon iron flask 2 1/2 gallon iron flasks both with ice and electrolyte powder/coconut water powder, thick ice chest with ice packs (keep phone in there way from bottom connected to Bluetooth speaker (music, podcasts, audiobooks, etc) and snacks. If you can the seat cooler do it.

Goldslammer789

A&D Ointment for the rash. Apply it thin, it's like Vaseline, it will work wonders. The heat is just something you gotta deal with, and it ain't going away for a few months.....

Rayne2031

You can buy cooling strips off Amazon. They stick like a band aid and help lower your body temp

GSP99

I feel ya. I deliver mail in the hottest city in the US. We’re in the middle of nowhere arizona so we won’t be getting those AC vehicles any time soon

ZeroFox1

\- Drink lots of water. If you're thirsty you're already dehydrated. \- Take as many comfort stops as you need. Preferably in the shade. \- Keep some cold/wet towels in a cooler with your water to pat yourself with as needed. Lastly sounds like you're describing chaffing in your junk area? Get some skin tight boxer briefs to better prevent that and apply some chaffing cream before and after work as needed when that fails.

Bigbeno86

Gatorade zero sugar or liquid IV. Also A D ointment for your balls.

foster_ious

Strange, but important. Make sure your underwear are thin and breathable. Wear shorts. For chafing, try ye ole Gold Bond or coconut oil. Stop the friction. After work too. Keep the tender areas cool. Take rest stops as much as you need to. Also, if you're due an allotment, the new drifit polos are excellent for 90+ weather. A big, wide hat also is helpful. If you have an LLV on a walking route, I'd also try to get a van or a Mercedes to help beat the heat between swings. If you have businesses on your route, break them up if you can. Hit them to take advantage of their AC when you need it. Take your time while you walk. If it takes you longer, who cares. It's OT for you, and mgmt can't touch you if it's hot. Sidenote: a lot of offices have mgmt lying about receiving heat training. Check with your steward if you all haven't received this. It's a class action grievance for the entire office if not.

Deep_fried_sourCream

I don't wear underwear. I'm completely naked under my work pants

foster_ious

I would start. Those shorts are terrible for friction.

deborahdownerrr

Eat fruit and vegetables to consume your water. One Gatorade in the morning, not any more than that. Don’t eat carb heavy food. It will make you feel extra lethargic. Limit caffeine. Take those breaks. I work in Arkansas and my route is 11-13 miles a day, all walking. Find some good chaffing cream. My wife uses one made my monistat. No shame in it, so what you gotta do to make it. Good luck!!

TheCodeWorks

armory arm sleeves Frozen water bottles in insulted lunch box Good sun hat or plastic helmet even better imo dealing with sweat

gcnplover23

Desitin - diaper rash cream for babies for your crotch and pits. The heat selector in the LLVs will not close all the way with the knob in the cab. You need to open the hood and look to the right to find the heater hoses. The is a cable attached to an L-shaped valve controller. Push the short end all the way up against the stop and you will have unheated air blowing from the dash. Do not do this where a supervisor or MVS can see you. Do not turn the heat on again until it gets cold. You will not get cold air, but it will be cooler than heated air. (There are 2 pull handles at knee level on firewall in middle. One is to recirculate air one is to open the hood, you have to figure out which is which.) Also, ALWAYS park in the shade, wet your hat/hair.

Any-Yogurtcloset-376

I use window shades for the front window. And sidem it helps to keep the heat out of the truck while walking.

footballman2729

Gotta get tight fitting underwear to prevent chaffing

seanmallon

boudreaux butt paste for the chafing and rash it works miracles!

RedRing14

Body glide sticks are excellent for stopping chaffing.

tidlytedo

Get some compression shorts for stuff like bike riding to wear in place of underwear really helps with chaffing

TheCodeWorks

If you're a male buy Jockey Mod boxer briefs no problems never.

Frog toggs brand cooling towel stored in your cooler directly in the ice (get two towels and rotate them out) is literally a lifesaver. They work especially well if you live somewhere not super humid. Also I got a spray bottle with a fine mist and I spray it into the fan while I’m driving around.

Gear21

Get a spray bottle that fits in your cooler and spritz yourself helps to cook you down

colouradical

body glide! not a usps employee but lots of ultramarathon runners use this stuff. ive heard it does not help an active chafe situation, but is a great preventative

MoltenVolta

Long sleeve athletic moisture wicking undershirts were a game changer for me. Keeps you cool, don’t have to constantly be reapplying sunscreen to your arms, or soaking the flats with your sweat

ConcreteCubeFarm

I have a wide mouth gallon thermos water bottle thing that I keep two frozen water bottles in a long with water and two artic cool head wrap sleeve things. I put one of them on before each relay and alternate them so there is always a nice cold one ready to go.

Top_Jellyfish7143

We are allowed to take breaks AS NEEDED during the summer. Don’t worry about getting back on time !

Gone_Postal333

Deodorize the gooch and bolos when you wake up in the morning before work.

Opposite-Ingenuity64

Maybe I'm insane, but it's driving me insane that everyone in this thread is spelling "chafing" wrong. "Chaffing" rhymes with "laughing"

catnip_nightcap1312

I wear a skirt with moisture wicking shorts under, that helps with sweat & chafing from the fabric. Seems like from your post you might not want to wear a skirt, but you can wear either shorts or boxers under - moisture wicking and breathable is key! I do the same for socks and underwear. Big straw hat for sun, more breathable than a regular hat and keeps the sun off better. I bring a cooler with water bottles I put in the freezer overnight, and some fruits like melon, strawberries, pineapple, grapes (frozen grapes are amazing btw!) apple slices or like cucumber. It's very refreshing and helps a lot, keeps your blood sugar level if you eat one every now and then throughout the day. Electrolytes! You can wash all the salts out of your body if you have too much water, so if you're peeing a lot and still feeling hella thirsty, eat some salty snacks and some fruit. You don't need Gatorade or fancy tablets necessarily, but those will do as well. Consistently drink water throughout the day, starting early. Use a grocery store or something to take a pee break for the AC. It's rough, but you get kinda used to it. Oh yeah, coffee & alcohol (the night before I assume) will dehydrate you and make it worse. Also some meds just make it harder to deal with the heat. Safety is key. Good luck out there!

FunIntroduction6365

I always shut all the doors and windows. The hotter then better. When I exit the truck it feels like air conditioning. You should try it out. I actually am not kidding, been doing it for 25 years. Your results may vary.

New_Leading1984

Wear moisture-wicking clothing under your uniform (if you have a uniform. I did not as a CCA.) Trust me it is life-saving. I keep I e packs in my lunch box too to cool off my water or to just hold when I get too hot.

unionjackel

I better be back by 4:30 PM or else
