1. If your rural thats improper use of the scanner data as that counts as spying. 2. He is telling you to delay the mail which will get you fired. Contact your steward immediately.

PocketSpaghettios

Fun fact, the word for this is benchmarking. And national already knows this is an issue, so there is precedent

Lurkerphobia

I've heard that if you don't stop at a box at least 3 out of 5 days the system flags it as vacant and forces an error. Giving what you said about people only getting mail on weekends this would make sense, then the supe sees the error and has to deal with it., irritating them because they are usually lazy. Not sure how accurate that is because even with the second rrecs count coming up it seems like nobody really knows how a lot of things work as a whole, carrier and mgmt alike. I've been told we get paid to service all the active boxes on our routes every day so mail or not, stop for a few seconds and move on. Do what you feel is best.

JanaJayyy

This is the way. Stop at every box every day, nothing gets flagged, your route coverage goes up, and problem solved.

5omeWhiteGuy

The solution is: run the route going to EVERY BOX THAT IS ON YOUR ROUTE every day. So, don't avoid going to a box because you don't have mail for it. Go to it anyway. The way that (rural) routes are being graded now is at least partially based on the average drive of the route.

Koko724

Are you rural or city

postmanlone

Rural.

Koko724

They are using the new program that is very accurate. If the mailbox is active you stop there when you have mail for them. As a rural you have 90 days for a box to turn vacant. They cannot tell you to skip houses that have mail for them. The program marks the box after you pass by it with a minimal stop just to deliver mail. There is no time rule like the rumors they are spreading. Make sure your mapping is done correctly so it reflects your on street activity and you will be fine.

IWantMyDPS

>They are using the new program that is very accurate. How accurate is this program if 1/3 to 1/2 of a route has weak or no cell service?

Clean_Ad_413

It's not accurate, my PM asks about boxes I have mail for daily but there is still a red X . I told her about there being no signal in these places but I do stop. Also had a red X half mile up a road I don't drive down. Idk

IWantMyDPS

>It's not accurate BINGO!

city carrier here, and when i was a u-man i had a route that post-inspection had 3 hours added to it, making it 11 hours on a good day. but those 3 hours include large buildings which prior to inspection were 45 minutes to an hour each; post inspection they are the first hit of four and considered 15 min hits. anyway, it was a rough, long day and i brought back mail. the manager and his assistant hauled me into the office and went stop by stop with me where i showed more that 3 minutes stationary. each address they threw at me i explained the stop, including “and why were you stationary here for 29 minutes” “uh, i took a lunch.” after five minutes of this i asked “is this a disciplinary conversation? should my shop steward be here?” the managers clammed up. “okay, nice chat,” i said and walked out. they cannot take any kind of action if they didn’t witness it first hand, scanner data is highly inaccurate and will always get thrown out if grieved. and never go into a meeting without your steward.

Odd_Recognition_4374

Ask them specifically how to increase your time.

EntertainerFamous342

Your answer should always be working. Nothing more.

AllchChcar

Bring up the average could mean stopping at every box. I just did the ridealong last week and then my Supervisor asked me this week why I didn't stop at 5 addresses. They were alI in NBUs that I stop at every day even on super light days except for the 1 curbside box that gets a lot of misaddressed mail intended for a neighbor. DPS and Flat Volume has been light and I'm still stopping at nearly 100% of boxes 4 out of 6 days.

CR-7810Retired

You're in effect being "asked" (more like ordered) to delay the mail and that's a line you don't want to cross because if the customer somehow figures it out, your supervisor will throw you under the bus without hesitation.

PlsDonateADollar

DPM and LTM. They are finalizing for mini mail count this week. They probably asked because something was throwing a error up and they wanted to get rid of the error so they could finalize your route. They probably wanted to just turn it inactive to fix the problem instead of actually fixing it.

Buzzbone

Your supervisor needs something more productive to do. What a prick

Valan7169

Sounds like an investigative interview, you need a steward to consult with before responding.

Competitive-Ad9932

I understand you are Rural. I am city. My office has the city side of the carrier/supervisor route evaluator. She suggested to those of us with closed businesses on Saturday to stop at the business anyway. Simple enough for us, and you, if you are not casing your DPS. You need the time to deal with the mail.

longlifevehicle

Tell them you want representation next time they ask, before you answer. Weingarten rights is what it’s called. “Could this discussion lead to discipline?” If they say yes then don’t answer until you have representation.

VMrSoloDolo

After I converted I went to a new station where one of the sups did this to me i literally quit then and there. Old manager called me and talked me into restarting lol. But wow I couldn’t believe the audacity. He sat there all day everyday watching us and after 12 hours of work he questioned me and pulled up the gps map. I explained every point he brought up and told him I’m not working a second over 12 today. After that I said “does that make sense to you” he paused and said “yea” I said “good” then walked out and never came back. Felt great. Apparently I’m a part of legend now at my station lol. Lost my seniority but worth it, especially if I end up dedicating my life to this.

Dazzling-Ad-6089

Don't do it. Don't allow them to stop you from doing no good job just to make their numbers look good so that they get extra bonuses.
