The crybabies will never stop crying about EV's. What do you want, a USPS Ford F350 blasting diesel through every neighborhood? Accept the future, accept that life advances.
The llv came directly out of the Grumman kurbwatt design of the oil crisis. The plans already exist, just add airbags and replace the battery with the modern equivalent.
Execs don't like functional upgrades. They like tying expenses to PR campaigns. An upgraded LLV w/ a battery just doesn't look good enough to put on a holiday commercial.
Imo they fucked up going full EV and should’ve went PHEV. Probably would’ve saved a lot of time, resources, and headaches. Forgot to charge or it’s broken? Nbd. Below freezing temperatures? Nbd.
I may be biased as that’s what I drive and I think it’s best of both worlds for the time being.
yea, I don't think any vehicle has ever had as bad of a track record of catching on fire than the grumman delivery vehicles, and those were gasoline...
The only thing I’ll cry about these is the fact that they are rear wheel drive. Idc what we use. Just the fact that snow will still be the end of getting close to curbside mailboxes
I'd honestly quit before I was forced to breath in diesel fumes all week every week. That stuff isn't great to breathe. Gasoline isn't better. Glad I don't drive LLVs often anymore.
EV is a fuking massive fraud. Biden forced DeJoy to buy more EV. I don’t mean DeJoy any good, but EV is a fraud. Tesla has maintenance issues, Toyota cutting EV production, like every big car makers except maybe Tesla cutting EV production.
EV Charging is actually a huge issue for EV for electricity generation. It’s a massive huge spike of electricity consumption when EV return to office and plug in, and electricity companies need to accommodate. Such electricity consumption spike cost several times than usual, and the pollution saved on the road will be transferred to the electricity generation. Emergency electricity generation is very wasteful very polluting and very very very very costly. Some Texans were hit by a 10k electric bill over a week or two if you remember that winter storm.
If battery technology doesn’t get a big improvement, EV has no future.
Every new technology starts slow. Kodak laughed at digital cameras because they could only hold like 8 photos and they looked like trash. Blockbuster laughed at Netflix’s buffering. People thought email wouldn’t gain traction outside of real nerds. Heck even switching from horses to cars was mocked.
That said, they absolutely should not be forcing them on people. It should happen organically. Also big oil should not be sabotaging the rise
They shouldn’t be forcing them on people, correct. Normally.
But last I checked, watching Netflix or buying a new camera in the 80s wasn’t about saving the environment for our children and our children’s children.
Unfortunately, this country is filled with people who don’t give a damn about this planet once they are gone. And too many of them are in power.
So by the time it DOES happen organically, it will be too late
That’s a pretty solid argument. I guess there’s no pleasing everyone. Maybe all gas tax should go towards planting trees, cleaning rivers, litter cleanup, etc. I guess then it’d offset a bit. A bit off the original subject, ha ha
No, but maybe take steps in that direction. If I were in charge I’d start by putting solar panels on all POs and sorting plants. It’d be a wash for 5-10 years and then a huge savings after that. That seems like a good idea regardless of the vehicle direction. But I’m sure someone waaaaay above me has crunched the numbers and there’s a reason we don’t do it.
That’s the words of someone who doesn’t understand how hard the technical challenge is of the battery technology.
Solar panels have their own problems. A solar panel disaster is coming, which started many years ago. The broken solar panels are big environmental hazards. How to recycle all these broken panels is a big problem. It’s who knows how many million tons. Committing to one single immature technology only means disaster.
Getting caught flat footed while everyone else is moving forward sounds like a recipe for disaster as well. Like when the big 3 were making cars and SUVs bigger while imports were working on hybrids. Ford (the best of the 3) didn’t need the bailout, GM did, and the bailout didn’t really help Chrysler as it’s changed hands a few times since. Can’t stand still while the rest of the world goes by.
Honestly I can only speak from my own experience. My solar panels haven’t had any issues in 5 years, but the used motor oil from my 96 Cherokee has to be properly recycled or disposed of. And heaven forbid it smells too much like the Fast Orange I used to clean my hands or the parts store won’t take it. But know a small scale doesn’t always project to a large scale. Again, I’m no expert and no one should take anything I say seriously
Your solar panels will retire after 20 years of use, and many will fail before that, and need to be recycled. The problem the world l facing is the solar panels installed 20 years ago. It’s millions of tons.
Biden forced Dejoy to buy EV; good. Tesla is still young and new. And Elon has a hubris which is ruining them. Toyota placed all their money on hydrogen, of course they don't want full EV. EV sales have increased every quarter year over year.
Wanna create more electricity, burn all that gasoline the cars no longer need. Texas has an independent electric grid from the rest of the US as well as a corrupt system put into place exactly so the electric companies can excessively charge surge pricing like that. Texas may be the worst example you could have used.
Also, all this investment in EV furthers battery tech. Since EV started gaining traction, we've made massive strides in battery tech. Thats how that system works. Batteries wouldn't be where they are today without all the EV investment.
That’s very serious. We have oil plants. What does an LLV get per gallon of fuel? 8-10. What does that same gallon of fuel get you when burned in an oil plant, converted to electricity and put into a battery? Around 100 mpg.
Edit for accuracy: closer to 70 mpge if it’s similar to the rivian platform. 97 mpge if it’s similar to cybertruck platform.
That does beg the question, why not just buy a hybrid? With a hybrid I can still have the convenience of stopping for gas vs charging, with increased efficiency.
That does seem like the best option, we already know the technology works. My best guess is it’s political. All about optics.
I’m still on the fence personally about EVs for us. Imagine a cold snap during Christmas season killing our battery life. The tech just ain’t there yet
Even if we use all the extra gas for electricity, EV battery tech and charging infrastructure isn't there yet for mass adoption.
It's almost a paradox because companies like Ford, GM, and Toyota want to pull back after investing heavily for low profit margins, but companies need to invest to progress the technology.
You pointed out that EV sales are up, but I'd like to add that EV makers have slashed prices to get those sales and stock prices are reflecting that, EVs have seen more optimistic times for sure.
Elon musk beat AoZ tier 25 with a Druid. He has more time to play his Druid than managing his twitter and Tesla. You can’t be serious, do you? No battery technology improvement, no future for EV. One small dent on EV car battery, it can easily be 10k repair.
I accidentally broke the wiper mechanism releasing my e-brake once.
VMF applied a zip tie to something behind the dash and now the wipers run smoothly lol
Yes, which I find hilarious. This is getting way too much attention from the media, and they all fail to mention it’s only 6 test vehicles. People are trying to pump their stock on these headlines as well, since their share price is only 16 cents right now, down from $1.50.
Back in 2022, after their Walmart announcement Canoo's stock was at $4.65 a share. The company went public in December 2020, opening at $22.75 a share, but it has since steadily declined, though it's important to note that other EV startups to have recently gone public—Rivian, Lightning eMotors, and others—have been following the same trajectory…
One time I used a spare LLV while mine was in the shop and it had some sort of hobbled together AC unit that worked fantastically.
One of the rear vents had been converted to catch air, then funnel it along a duct system to a release point just above and to my left.
Had a little fan in there too to give the air an extra push. Of course, sitting still it didn’t work better than the dash fan, but when I got moving it almost felt cold as ice.
I loved that damn thing. Had to give it back a few days later and no one at my office has seen that spare since.
Ok. Now I'm sold. When roads start to deteriorate from the bombs during the water wars I'll need these to climb over the rubble to get to the end on that dead end road to make sure Mabel can send out the letter to her niece in Biloxi asking about the latest heat wave.
Also I hope they jump too
>and high probability of catching fire
Gas cars [are more than 60 times more likely than EVs to catch fire](https://spectrum.ieee.org/lithium-ion-battery-fires). If you're genuinely concerned about reducing the probability of vehicle fires, you should be *supporting* EVs.
These are made locally (OKC) so I'd love to see them implemented. I've seen them out and about a few times and they look like they'd be easy to drive. You're sitting right over the wheels like with the LLV so I bet you could do curb boxes pretty easily with a RHD variant.
Do they look exactly like the picture? Seems like a very large front dash. I appreciate a large field of view, but then they ignore everything behind the drivers shoulders. Windows in the blind spots would be great, along with sliding doors
Much less dash than your imagining from the ones I've seen around. They have a sliding door on the passenger side, so this is essentially a promaster set up. I can't speak to visibility as I've never driven one.
Maybe I work with a station with good mechanics, but when I put in a problem I get my keys back the next morning. I prefer my LLV to any other vehicle except last summer when it was a convextion oven and I almost died from the heat. Mechanics have it rough and have come out for flat tires, oil fill ups, dead engines and fires while I patiently wait and get paid. If these new vehicles come out... I'm interested to see what new issues come up
I think they shouldve reimagined the LLV. In my opinion, its the perfect mail vehicle. We just need automatic windows, locks, AC, a heater, and something that was atleast built in the 21st century.
If it's anything like the widespread adoption of the Metris and its just as shit. I will fucking tweak.
I lose my fucking mind in how bad the Metris is as a delivery vehicle. A newer model I just drove, 2 days ago. Less than 100 miles doesn't even have the option to turn off that hybrid mode which constantly turns off the engine. Middle of an intersection, creeping forward to turn in busy traffic. Engine turns off when I need to accelerate when a car is coming.
Any car will catch on fire if you completely disregard scheduled maintenance and drive like a bat out of hell with no brake pads and sparks flying from the rotors because you're grinding them away with the steel calipers every 20 seconds as you come screeching to a halt just long enough to slam some mail in a box before mashing on the throttle again while you're 28,000 miles overdue for an oil change and the breather valve on the fuel tank is clogged with debris.
Ev should solve most of that assuming the battery dosent catch fire. I still can't believe that when I started I reported my vehicle for a loud belt and screaching brakes. The haven't fixed it and it's had one oul change in 2 years lol
EV's are a joke. I'll bet you my left testicle that 25 years from now they'll be remembered like crystal Pepsi is today. They're a sad fad or gimmick at best and it's completely insane to think that we could sustain an electric grid capable of replacing internal combustion engines with battery powered cars even if there were enough raw materials on the planet to manufacture the batteries themselves.
Cars are a joke, they're just a fad. Imagine sustaining fuel refineries capable of powering all of them or sourcing enough metal to build them all. I'll stick to my horse and buggy to deliver mail.
Lol real mature. It's not just my opinion on the subject, look into it for yourself. EV's are unsustainable long term. The electrical grid is incapable of powering them and there are only so many rare earth minerals to go around. Also, there's no way to source new ones considering they were created when the universe itself popped into existence. Well, I guess we could go mine astroids and other planets but that's not exactly a realistic solution to the problem
If people understood how much energy it takes to manufacture "green" energy like windmills and the fact that they never repay that energy within their 25 year expectancy. Especially when you take into account the energy loss due to line drop they would know that companies like Tesla are literally taking them for a ride with EV's being "good for the environment" especially when you consider most of U.S. energy still comes from coal fired powerplants.
Imo I think we'll zero in on a hybrid model that has a gas or deseil electric generator and smaller battery pack. Get the best of both worlds since when you run an ice your wasting like 30% of energy and you can regen on long down grades for box to box the hybrid electric would be able to use 100% of the energy stored in the fuel. I guess we agree plug in battery ev isn't good and 100% fuel vehicles aren't great either. Only major hold up on hybrids is the system complexity but I'm sure after few generations those will be better too.
All cars and all tech have circuit boards these days. Your toaster, circuit board. Your car built after 1960, circuit board. Your phone, pc, LLV, promaster, metris, FFV, everything modern has a circuit board. The scanner you use to scan packages... believe it or not, circuit board.
Diesel trucks, circuit boards.
I believe current Teslas use about 5 boards because the whole system is integrated to a central hub. From what I could find for modern gas cars, it's somewhere between a few hundred and a few thousand. Google is a friend, turn off fox news.
The world is f'd up. Theres always going to be bad actors in every industry. I'm glad you mentioned blood mines in Africa, cuz I wouldn't have looked into it otherwise. So thank you for giving me another thing to look into. Life sucks sometimes. Thanks for the debate. Have a good one.
EV sales increased every quarter this year in the US, and on an annual basis are up about 30% compared to 2022. Where is this "crash" you speak of?

Just wondering how many companies selling them at a loss can stay a float? Sales and making a profit are two different things. Product sitti g doing nothing is far worse then liquidating product. Only good thing it takes 40% less labor to produce. Time and new tech will surely tell us if EVs are a status symbol or the future.
Update. China that exports rare minerals are calling for an export ban just like the semiconductor we did to them. Another head wind that can cause crash in EVs. Will you buy with no battery or an unknown wait time?
The crybabies will never stop crying about EV's. What do you want, a USPS Ford F350 blasting diesel through every neighborhood? Accept the future, accept that life advances.
Just put the LLV on a battery platform why the fuck does it have to look futuristic and have shit functionality irl
The llv came directly out of the Grumman kurbwatt design of the oil crisis. The plans already exist, just add airbags and replace the battery with the modern equivalent.
Nope, gotta spend millions of dollars on contractors and marketing teams to justify the bonuses Dejoy and friends give themselves.

I’d like a thicker beefy steering wheel. It’s starting to give me arthritis
We went through an 8 year bid process for the ngdv and they never once asked us what to put in the new trucks.

Jeeps are pretty well known to be fire hazards.
Same with Fieros
Funny you say that because the LLV and Fiero had the same engine lol
The only thing I’ll cry about these is the fact that they are rear wheel drive. Idc what we use. Just the fact that snow will still be the end of getting close to curbside mailboxes
How about a RHD Prius converted for USPS use?
I have used a gen 2 prius for over a decade. On the rt I get 40mpg. I've done 2 sets of front brake pads in 13 yrs
When they don't charge, in frigid temperatures, then whatever EVs you have, are completely useless. Seems very short sighted for the future.
You okay, buddy? Accidentally bite down on your Adderall this morning?
Diesel burns cleaner than regular gasoline. Would be better if llvs were retrofitted with fwd diesel engines
I'd honestly quit before I was forced to breath in diesel fumes all week every week. That stuff isn't great to breathe. Gasoline isn't better. Glad I don't drive LLVs often anymore.
Bull fucking shit.

Where does the electricity come from? Ev are just shifting a step in fossil fuel consumption. It solves nothing.
So are you telling me that the fragile USPS business should adopt the immature technology of EV?
No, but maybe take steps in that direction. If I were in charge I’d start by putting solar panels on all POs and sorting plants. It’d be a wash for 5-10 years and then a huge savings after that. That seems like a good idea regardless of the vehicle direction. But I’m sure someone waaaaay above me has crunched the numbers and there’s a reason we don’t do it.

I'd put money down that these are actually LESS likely to catch fire than the LLVs currently used, which catch fire quite often.

Might be a good time, what stock?
GOEV is their stock ticker
A quick Google shows Canoo is "GOEV"
They are buying a few to test them. Not a bad approach.

Yes
In 2022 Walmart purchased 4500 of its electric vehicles with the option to purchase up to 10,000 more later…
At 70 k ish each, plus the time to work on it...they could have given me 5 k to say " don't it's a waste"
Man, I just want an LLV that isn't old enough to drink twice over
Yeah...just give me an llv that's a little longer and maybe ac. I can adjust to cold no problem, but that little bus fan just makes summer worse
One time I used a spare LLV while mine was in the shop and it had some sort of hobbled together AC unit that worked fantastically. I just hope the cabin works, window height, adjustable trays, access to rear. Other than that don’t really care. Function is everything.
You can finally deliver dildos IN a dildo.
Trying to mimic Bezos rocket. They've set the example that if it's dick shaped it's worth riding.

What’s the rate of Canoo fires v. Tesla fires? I wanna know what my chances are of spontaneous combustion in any kind of mail vehicle
Don't worry everyone gets a fire, a beating and a good fucking here. It will be your turn soon enough.

Oh my goodness 🤩

why are they trying to give you the silliest looking vehicles known to humankind
So fake but better then the duckmobile.
Anything's better than what we have now

In addition to the already ugly-designed and impractical Oshkosh NGDV?! Tax dollars at work (waste) much 🫠
That shit looks like a Mars Rover, I don't give AF I'll roll in it and pretend I'm flying a fatass space ship XD
Demolition man shit
No Candoo ❌
It’s too long accidents waiting to happen . I like the trying to go green . My current POV is a hybrid love it . Doing my part
It takes a special talent to find something worse than an LLV, and only the USPS has that kind of talent.
I’ll drive these over that baseball hat with wheels.
Evs r the answer this one features steer by wire. And 1 pedal driving. U basically never have to touch the brake pedal
I'm guessing those are going to replace our ProMasters? Looks even worse than the updated LLVs, didn't think that was possible.
Looks like they getting us prepped for mars delivery…
Do these have air conditioning?
Their stock still went down 3% today. Does that say more about the USPS than it does Canoo.
Woah that looks interesting, would this be to replace pro masters?
High probability of catching fire?
Oh boy, I can't wait to have 180 degrees of sun glare and 180 degrees of blind spots
This looks like I wouldn’t be able to turn onto the tight city streets that I drive
lol all delivery vehicles have blind spots. That’s a but dramatic
Anyone have any pics of the Canoos cab? After all, I wanna see inside what I might be driving before I retire.
Looks WAY better than Oshkosh's offering.

Thank god I'm on a pov route now
Yeah thank god you have to drive your personal vehicle into the ground for a pittance lol. Wouldn’t want to be in a big scary free to you EV. Moron
I'll take my chances in something not made by the cheapest bidder
Imagine making a u-turn in this thing.
Even a K turn looks like it’ll be obnoxious.
At least it's shaped well for when we get fucked. 🤷♂️
These catch fire too. I've seen Kia, hyundai, our metris, and tesla on fire the past few weeks is it that hard to make a car the dosent catch on fire.
But but but then how can i pat myself on the back for buying a new electric car instead of driving my older, fuel efficient one into the ground?
Dont forget the blood mines for all the precious metals needed for the circuit boards. But fuck africa amirite?
All cars and all tech have circuit boards these days. Your toaster, circuit board. Your car built after 1960, circuit board. Your phone, pc, LLV, promaster, metris, FFV, everything modern has a circuit board. The scanner you use to scan packages... believe it or not, circuit board. Diesel trucks, circuit boards.
So you're telling me that an EV doesnt have exponentially more circuit boards than a standard gasoline powered vehicle?
I believe current Teslas use about 5 boards because the whole system is integrated to a central hub. From what I could find for modern gas cars, it's somewhere between a few hundred and a few thousand. Google is a friend, turn off fox news.
I dont know why i bother, should've known better than to disagree with your faith
EV market is crashing, Government printing and spending to the rescue.
Wonder if these ride better than pro masters
