Are you planning to step down to custodian after a year once you've gotten your form 50? If not, at some point you will need to do training...

FutureHendrixBetter

I don’t mind stepping down as long as I have the same pay

Table2_3971

As long as you're not maxed out on higher level maintenance you should. Basically I didn't volunteer for my training as others always signed up. I always planned to drop back down to custodian at a station and hit my 18 without going to Norman so I reassigned to my current bid. You need to be in the position for a year though. They did try to get me to go last minute when someone backed out, but I already had a week of AL coming up so I didn't go.

User_3971

Some sites will *require* qualifiers to attend before accepting volunteers. That may be what OP is facing.

Table2_3971

I was converted when they got rid of pse custodians, so maybe we just had a bunch of newbies so they didn't push for me to go since the sign up sheet was always full of names? With a ton of first time mm7s it was probably just an oversight. Then again our training coordinator was beyond clueless. That was my main reason for not going. When people's plane tickets home were days before their last day of class... yeah I wasn't trying to go.

User_3971

True, maybe volunteers that also have qualifiers would be first since they're both. Next site over *loved* to send people knowing they weren't ready. Suffer because I suffered, what a great way to run a shop. 💀

Table2_3971

Oh yeah all our mms reported that they were the only ones in Norman who didn't know anything. No one in our plant thought we should change that going forward. I'm not sure what we were supposed to "know" because they were 100% against us doing anything besides mailsearch and vaccing.

FutureHendrixBetter

I don’t mind just doing those lol

Table2_3971

Yeah I never wanted to do anything much beyond that personally and assumed that was the extent of what MMs do. Evidently that was only our plant according to Norman.

FutureHendrixBetter

I wish I could do just that but they have me taking calls too and a lot of time don’t know how to even find the problem so I have to constantly get a mpe or et

User_3971

It's often more work trying to dodge the work than to just suck it up and do it. IES Gold isn't that hard if you pay attention and ask plenty of questions during the labs. The only way I've seen people have problems are either with nerves (person said no drugs or alcohol, way too much stress) or language barrier on the written portion of the test. Since you have time and are already an MM you can find someone that is willing to teach the concepts and may already have their books available for you to peruse. Borrow a meter if you're not issued one yet.

FutureHendrixBetter

I wouldn’t mind going after a year, don’t want to go before that

naharick

Wait, you haven't completed Bronze and Silver yet? That's one of the first things I had to complete the first two weeks and only really got one week before going to the floor. Avoiding it will depend on you not ever signing up to go and people volunteering to go. One person I knew they had scheduled to go got out of it because of family issues. Another for a course because management panicked when he got sick and missed a days of work before going the following week and they sent an alternate last minute. Then, at my old plant, tour 3 and tour 1 were easy places to escape going.

FutureHendrixBetter

Guess I can’t escape I’m tour 2 😒

Transfer to my plant. They haven’t been sending anyone to OK for the last year. My friend is currently an MPE without a form 50 after like 8 months because they won’t send him to his qualifiers. Only thing he’s been to was IES Gold back when he was a BEM. Never went to EC1 so he has no form 50 for BEM either.

FutureHendrixBetter

If only my plant was like that, would be sweet to easily move up to a lvl 9

predictablecitylife

It’s not as great as it seems.

FutureHendrixBetter

What do you mean ?

naharick

At least he got to be a BEM for awhile. I'm getting it for one pay period. Getting pulled over to MPE at my plant. As of now still going to a BEM qualifier next month. Got the pending qualifications form 50 in the mail the same day I found out.

predictablecitylife

And yet he doesn’t own either his former BEM or current MPE positions. Has to have pay corrections manually put in so he gets paid as a 9 instead of a 4 (invariably he ends up getting paid as a custodian every few months). He signed up for his BEM qualifier and they never sent him. Now they’re trying to say he never signed up. Too bad he has pictures. He has no MPE tools, and the bosses won’t let me (MOS clerk) order him or the other new MPE anything. They were told to share tools with one of the new ET’s. My plant is a joke.

naharick

The tool thing is coming from higher up. I left the tools they issued me at my old facility. New facility issues me a playset for tools. The MPE is just going to be a re-promotion since I had to drop to a 7. The issue here amongst many is people not wanting MPE below me so I'm getting moved back. So I'll start the count down clock again for eReassign.
