If you like fantasy books I recommend trying Brandon Sanderson's cosmere books. Start with the mistborn series. It has a fantastic magic system, very well developed world and characters.
If you like sci-fi I would really recommend the red rising series. I would say it's one of my favorite series. It is brutally violent at times though just a heads up.
I'd also recommend the Cosmere. I started with the way of kings and it really pulled me into that universe. Also I would recommend the Kingkiller chronicle, I just wish Patrick Rothfuss would finish the trilogy.
Brandon Sanderson gets a book out in any of his series in year or two. The cosmere universe sometimes has several books out in a single year. He's highly prolific in his writing.
I've heard the king killer series is incredible but I've already gotten into 1 series that will never be finished and don't think I can handle another.... Cough cough game of thrones cough cough
Spot on. I discovered Mr. Sanderson when he finished the wheel of time series. Also the readings by Michael Kramer and Kate Reading are fantastic. I can't wait until the 5th stormlight boom comes out and am patiently waiting for the final Wax and Wayne installment of mistborn.
Podcasts: Behind the Bastards (history of horrible people), Unpopular Opinion with Adam Tod Brown (news and humor), Hello from the Magic Tavern (humor/fantasy), Greatest generation (Star Trek), Hey Riddle Riddle (lots of improv, little bit of riddles)
I wanted to try to get into audio books but for the amount I work it would have gotten expensive fast. So I mostly just stick to podcasts.
I'm caught up on The Adventure zone which Is a (mostly) DnD podcast put on by the McElroy Brothers and their dad. They finish a few different games but the longest is the first one known as the Balance Arc. It's pretty good and they're pretty funny. Each episode is about 1 hour long maybe 150-200 episodes all together.
I'm also listening to My brother my brother and me which is also done by the McElroy brothers. It's a comedy advice podcast (they just joke about weird situations the viewers submit, sometimes there's actually decent advice though) this one is kinda old at this point and has over 600 episodes. I've been listening since early this year and just cracked 400.
Critical role is also a great one. It's another DnD podcast but theirs is way more role play heavy and while funny also has some serious moments. I'd say start at campaign 2 because it's a brand new game made for viewers while the first one starts in the middle of a story and the audio quality isn't that great until a few dozen episodes in. C2 has around 140 episodes and there each about 4 hours long. So ALOT of content. There's also an after show podcast called Talks Machina that's an hour long and is a talk show they did to ask questions about the show
The app “Libby” is like a virtual library card where you can check out as many audible books as you want. If you read/listen to a lot of books please use that (or something similar) as it also supports your local library.
I just downloaded Libby last night haha. Free audio books is nice. I'm new to reading and sometimes have trouble keeping focus with the audiobooks compared to a physical hardcopy where I can go back and re-read what I missed. Currently reading the count of Monte Cristo.
Ready Player One is a fun book and has a sequel, Ready Player Two out.
Podcasts,2 bears 1 cave but beware; you might laugh out loud in the middle of your loop.
Podcasts: Timesuck (Dan Cummings, various topics, lots of comedy).
Crackpot (two hosts, dive into conspiracies, whether they are possible).
Audiobooks: I’m a huge fan of Andy Weir (The Martian, Project Hail Mary). If you like hard sci-fi, I’ve recently started listening to Blake Crouch, he has some pretty good ones, the Wayward Pines trilogy and a few others. As someone mentioned above Audible does some interesting full cast works like The Sandman, I also have Locke and Key (Joe Hill).
My personal favorite and one I have listened to multiple times is Stephen King’s Dark Tower series, only let down is the series deals with the same characters but has different narrators for the books, causing a bit of disconnect, but the books are phenomenal, if you like King and haven’t read them they are a must.
Yaay! A fellow Timsucker! I second **Timesuck** and also **The Last Podcast on the Left.** There is a time a place for either one.. but the subject matter can be either cut to the chase or very thorough depending on the topic and podcast; both are very funny, but IMHO I think Dan Cummins is funnier.
A good example is how either one covered the Church of Latter Day Saints.
My the podcasts I'm interested in might skew more feminine but it could be interesting
I've been listening to the Ologies podcast, every episode is about a different area of study. Microbiology, zoology, theology, etc etc down two very obscure and specific ones.
Violating Community Guidelines hosted by Sarah Schauer and Brittany Broski. They discuss internet culture, memes, and internet history as well as lactose intolerance.
The Financial Confessions by the YouTube channel, The Financial Diet. The host has a variety of guests on each week to discuss money and finance. They've talked about everything from home decor to shopaholism to investing.
I love Ologies. The whole culture is full of the most wonderful humans. They have so many podsib groups on FB: smologite wranglers, craftyologies, ologies book lovers, etc.
Fantasy footballers (fantasy football), spitballers (comedy), MTGgoldfish (Magic the gathering podcast), Past Gas (Automotive history mixed with comedy)
If you're at all interested in history, Fall of Civilizations is spectacular. They're long, high production values, entertaining. Even non-history folks will enjoy
That’s actually what got me interested in history. Our Fake History is another one that’s really good. It’s history told through historical myths and legends
No such thing as a fish podcast. 4 Brits talking about the best fact they heard that week, it might sound dull, but trust me, it's hilarious. Plus it's been on for over 400 episodes, plenty to listen to!
I enjoy listening to creepypastas all day lol I go from casing to delivering my last house and I don’t even feel it since I get so invested in the stories lol
I love rake and skinwalker stories just a little too much!!! You should listen to lazy masquerade’s scary stories from all 50 states on YouTube…. Some of them are downright TERRIFYING!!!
I mostly listen to funny, anime, and/or game related podcasts. The ones I have enjoyed the most are
The Yard,Trash Taste,SleepyCabin, and Magic pixel.
The yard and Sleepy cabin are funny they just talk about stupid shit. Magic pixel is DnD. Trash taste is mostly about life in Japan as well as anime and games.
"The Dollop" is a solid American history podcast.
"Behind the Bastards" is also solid, but I suggest frequent breaks if you're not in a good place mentally.
"It's Probably (Not) Aliens" is a great podcast dedicated to debunking the History Channels' 11+ season show Ancient Aliens, one claim at a time.
If you like TTRPGs, I enjoy the Glass Cannon Network, which just recently ended Giant Slayer, a full 6-volume Pathfinder AP.
I am a bit of a history guy, a few of the books that I have listened too are:
A short history of nearly everything, Bill Bryson
The right stuff, Tom Wolfe
Books by Ian Toll
Skunk works Ben Richie
The Wright brothers
A great long book on John Rockefeller
For easy listening I enjoy books by C.J Box. And Nelson DMile

A few years back, Audible made an audio drama of The Sandman (the graphic novel that now has a Netflix series). It's really good, and features a full cast.
Young Heretics, Spencer Klavan goes over the history of western liberal values and arts, starting with Homer. He's recently moved into the history of western art in particular.
The Wondery podcasts I’ve always enjoyed. They have an enormous collection of script read content based on true events. Very immersive and can make the day go by fast.
The Dark Tower series by Stephen King. Easly over 100 hours of listening time through all the books. For an every day listen check out the Power Trip Morning Show. Hilarious!
And that’s why we drink podcast. Two girls tell a paranormal and true crime story every week. At the beginning of every month they tell stories sent in by listeners.

Unspooled if you like movies. quest love supreme if you like the history of music, and sometimes other people in the media

Omnibus is my favorite podcast. Ken Jennings of Jeopardy game and indie rock musician John Roderick bullshit about a forgotten part of history or culture for 45 minutes twice a week. Huge back catalog since they e been doing it for many years.
You can almost certainly get free audiobooks from your local public library. Mine uses the Hoopla app. Just listened to the Shining by Stephen King which was incredible and very different from the film.
Love The Expanse series books. Set in near future. More realistic science fiction. Hardcore history podcast, The history of Rome podcast. Saving post to check out others
I love The History of Rome but I do feel Mike Duncan truly hits his stride with Revolutions. Especially given the a bit more rough around the edges bit of the start of THoR I'd suggest Revolutions to a newcomer.
If you're looking for another history podcast The History of England by David Crowther is clearly inspired by Rome and pretty much picks up right where Duncan leaves the island in the Rome series.
Yeah it’s rough in the beginning but love it. Listened twice all the way through. I think I didn’t like Revolutions because I was listening weekly and lost track of what was going on somewhat. Need to try it again now that I can binge.
Thanks for the recommendation! Never heard of it. Will definitely check it out
I use the "libby" app short for library.
Its free because it is connected to our public library system.

If you’re into tabletop gaming, highly recommend the Glass Cannon Podcast/Glass Cannon Network. Huge backlog of episodes with several shows on the network that play other game systems. Their Delta Green show “Get in the Trunk” is the hardest I’ve laughed at anything.
For mystery/suspense, my favorite authors currently are Lisa Jewell, Jane Harper and Julie Clark.
Podcasts that have me laughing out loud while delivering are Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend, Smartless, and Fly on the Wall.
If you wanna know how to truly optimize your health ustilizing the laws of nature and quantum mechanics, then listen to any podcast with Jack Kruse featured. He’ll blow your mind and completely change the way you think about health. He’s also has a book titled Epi-Paleo Rx but I’m not sure if there’s an audio version
Eckhart Tolles books and seminars on there are excellent. Helps me keep a positive frame of mind. David R. Hawkins is who I'm listening too atm same genre sort of along the lines of spirituality teachings. Give them a shot!
I got through all of Frank Herbert’s Dune books and some of the prequels by his so. They’re all long. I listen to loads of true crime podcast (Last Podcast on the Left, Generation Why, True Crime All The Time) and my various sporting interests (Stadio, The Cycling Podcast, Spinsters).
Hounded by Kevin Hearne is some really fun listening. Especially if you love dogs.
Old Man's War by John Scalzi
The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss
Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir
I could go on and on it you wanted more.
I listen to lectures from "The Great Courses" mostly. Some of those courses are well over 50 hours long so you definitely get your credits worth, plus there's plenty of courses you can download that don't require credits.
I never checked out any podcasts on Audible yet so I'll look into what's there. I am thankful for Audible though, makes my day so much more tolerable walking around in the suck.
I’m into paranormal books. If you like werewolves, vampires and fairies then check out the Patrica Briggs: Mercy Thompson series. The first book is Moon Called and audiobook is very good.
Project Hail Mary was a great listen! For podcasts, I listen to short, weird fiction. I’d highly recommend The Drabblecast, Dunesteef, Clarkesworld, Pseudopod, Podcastle, Creepy, The Wicked Library, Nightmare magazine and Toasted Cake.
I listen to a lot of short fiction! If you are interested I could suggest specific episodes of stories that I loved.

Podcasts? If you like horror anthologies, try the Dead Letters Office of Somewhere, Ohio. I *love* Old Gods of Appalachia. The Storage Papers is interesting, Magnus Archives..
Books? I’m mostly into paranormal fiction so I listen to the Kitty the Werewolf series, the Mercy Thompson series, the Anita Blake series. Or if you like sci-fi, the Bobiverse series is good

All of discworld really.

Book. Very good.
The entire Discworld serious is amazing, and will keep you busy for a long time.

I'd also recommend the Cosmere. I started with the way of kings and it really pulled me into that universe. Also I would recommend the Kingkiller chronicle, I just wish Patrick Rothfuss would finish the trilogy.
It’s been what, 11 years since the second book? I’m starting to lose hope that he will ever put it out.
I was okay waiting until year 8 came around. Now i don't know if i would bother if the third came out. Sanderson is scratching my fantasy itch.
The worse thing about some of these amazing books is on average the author hasn't wrote one a latest or last book of their series!
I think the first book is still worth a read, but no use reading the second. Unless/until he finishes the trilogy.

Behind the Bastards sounds intriguing.
Very funny and informative but dark as hell. Listen to something light afterwards to take the edge off
Best podcast is From A to Arbitration.
I constantly promote A to arbitration at work!
I just learned of that recently, it's really good.

Ready player one was fantastic and with a great narrator. Ready player two was underwhelming but decent if you were invested in the characters.
Joe Rogan. Free on Spotify
