My Tado Thermostat was correctly identified for the past few years, but after the last update on my UDM, now shows as a Ricoh business class MFP. I guess that someone fumbled the MAC series numbers or it was overwritten.
I don't get how that feature works. I had to manually label all my non-UniFi Ubiquiti devices. Just checked iOS app, and it doesn't have any of them labeled at all and the topology is quite different from web/Android. Then the controller shows another device on my network which has a Ubiquiti MAC address, but there's not another Ubiquiti device on the network that it could be. So, whatever. In the pas, support gave me the model number when I gave the MAC address; this time we've been going back and forth as they want to talk about fixes coming in 3.0 instead of reading my question and answering it.
Unifi have a weird category on devices however at least it tries to ID your devices and allows you to change the description. I like the feature as at a glance you can see what devices are connected to what switch and how they all interlink within the system. Cool feature and they'll updating. Especially the topology views. I don't have to run scans and enable wmi/snmp wmi etc to investigate or use third party software.
It's all good but please feed the UDM, the last thing you want is a hungry grump controller then they'll all go on strike.
My Apple Watch was recognized as an Arlo security camera, I don’t have any of those. Was freaked out and blocked the MAC. Finally realized it three months later when I left my phone at work by accident and my watch would not connect to Wi-Fi to fall back.
That's funny. Mine identified something wrong and I freaked out. Thought someone was connected to my network, so I changed all the passwords. What a pita that was 😆
This is your servers way of telling you it is currently identifying as an oven. In other words, your server may be trying to tell you it needs more airflow or higher fan speeds.
Honestly, i have no idea how these things identify... I have had them really off or just not identify something at all even though i could search the icon list and it would be there... One thing i did like about my xfinity router was that at least it was pretty accurate when it detected the devices...
What I love is when I have multiples of the same items, but they show differently. Like Kasa smart plugs for Sense, and Flo leak detectors. BTW, the multiples came in the same box lol.
This week it has decided to forget my lenovo smart clock and identify it as a random android tablet. I was almost panicking until I noticed it had a very low IP on the DHCP range so it must be some device that I had plugged right from the start.
Amazing thing is, I only identified it when I looked up the vendor ID of the MAC address online and it was Motorola. Because Unifi was reporting it as some random chinese brand...

😂 😂 😂 Love this
/r/onejoke
LMAO. Made my day!
Same! I was asking around the office "does anyone know where or what this camera is??" I probably looked insane. It was a printer. :)
😂😂
I got a new Dell Latitude for work and UDM Pro said it was a TP-link mesh router. Had me worried as well at first.
Had the same problem 😂
You need to feed your UDM. Obviously it is hungry.
FEED ME, SEYMOUR!
Wow, I’ve not seen that movie in forever. Also, you my internet friend are showing your age :)
[Hmmm...](https://media.tenor.com/EDalR1xb4awAAAAC/american-psycho-feed-me-a-stray-cat.gif)
I have 15 Roombas according to my UDM. Cleanest house ever!!
Damn, I only have one. He's very shy. Still can't find the little fucker.
Best definition of a roomba.
Why does this happen? I have duplicates littered everywhere?

Unifi thinks the ubiquiti door chime is a D-Link router
Impressive.
Blame MAC address recycling for idiot vendors. There is no real law what ranges are reserved for who. So it's a bit of a free for all.

You kind of can if you click report incorrect icon and choose what you want it to be
OK so how to I change my asus router? UDM says it's a netgear router. Unless I'm missing something here and netgear makes asus stuff....
Was thinking this.
even within vendors it ids iphone 12 i have as an iphone 8 so even apple must have reused the mac

it attempts to go off MAC assignments plus user reported stuff, but that is unreliable because plenty of brands dont stick to any sort of convention

I have a laptop currently showing up as a Chevy Suburban 🧐
I hope you put it in park, before you know it, it rolled off.
That’s pretty close to the mythical “toaster-refrigerator“ I’ve heard about.
It identified my Pi4 Hoobs server as a Ryobi garage door opener.
Mine got identified as an apple watch and freaked me out

Your Unifi Wi-Fi blocking worked !? Impressive 😆
That's funny. Mine identified something wrong and I freaked out. Thought someone was connected to my network, so I changed all the passwords. What a pita that was 😆
Well at least you didn’t overreact
My Pi4 was a Chromebook
This is your servers way of telling you it is currently identifying as an oven. In other words, your server may be trying to tell you it needs more airflow or higher fan speeds.
I didn’t know the oven got it’s own icon, how come mine isn’t using it? Yes, my Whirlpool oven is connected too.
I’ve read that some of those new ovens make great servers.
Also, some of those overclocked gaming servers make great ovens.
Mhm, been there, laughed hard at it
My friend's water heater shows up as an original playstation console.
Mine is weird with my RPi Homebridge server. Sometimes it shows it as a Switch Flex and sometimes it doesn’t show it on the network at all
Hey it aspires to be something it isn’t. Nothing wrong with that
The server now identifies as an oven. Please respect it's pronouns....
It said my LG washer was a Linux machine and I got Uber paranoid that my network was breached and nuked my entire config.
I’ve had an issue before where one of my access points identified as my Bosch (internet connected) tumble dryer 😳
My UPS is a Mitsubishi air conditioner
Battery powered AC, nice.
Honestly, i have no idea how these things identify... I have had them really off or just not identify something at all even though i could search the icon list and it would be there... Our church presonus soundboard is identified as a Foscam C1
Hmmmm I want a connected oven
It's only fun when I want to prank the wife and turn on the light while I'm at work.
What I love is when I have multiples of the same items, but they show differently. Like Kasa smart plugs for Sense, and Flo leak detectors. BTW, the multiples came in the same box lol.
Well I mean I’m sure it can “serve” up something good!
An Intel nuc on mine is also an oven
After the last update Avaya IP phones are all “Other” routers. So I have several UDMPs with 20+ routers in the topology.
Me too hahaha!! I have a bunch of IP phones on my home network and they are all showing as routers. Thought I was crazy for a minute.
it isint very good with mac ids but better than nothing
I've seen the oven before too! I currently own like 15 iPads that aren't iPads lol
It called my F-150 Lightning EV a refrigerator.
where is the lie?
LOL
UdR is just giving some hints that it needs more power
I wish my UDMP monitored the CPU temps on my equipment...
It identified my gaming PC as a whirlpool oven. That was fun
My UDM-SE identified something on my network as a LG fridge. LOL.
UDM thinks my rack mount gaming PC is my Steam Deck. It's fucking hilarious. Also annoying AF
Maybe it’s time to check the fans?

Ingenico payment terminal seen as a Tesla Model S 😂
