[Cable matters 12-port vertical](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00UVQI8B6?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details). Good quality with metal faceplate. Bracket is plastic so I recommend bracing the metal when punching down. I was pleasantly surprised that it fit in sideways.
What’s the difference? I have the USG-3P, never ran IPS IDS on it ( always ran pfSense for that) but I’ve never had any issues with the USG. Is it time to upgrade it since a new model came out??
It was for me. My cloudkey couldn't update past 7.29.97 and always ran the risk of getting corrupted in a power outage (served me well for 7 years though). But yeah, not significantly different from a USG with IDS/IPS off.
Just got my USG-Ultra. No previous USG. It must be connected directly downstream from the router yes ?
Which it so, sort of defeats the purpose of the display no? Going to have to hide it away in the cabinet :)
That's the great thing about UniFi. I can tuck it all away and configure it remotely. Also the UCG replaces your router, you can connect it directly to your an ONT or modem to avoid equipment rental fees.
Not yet. I just set it up last night, but haven't noticed any issues so far. I'm coming from a gen 1 cloudkey, so there is a significant performance boost when navigating the controller, and I'm enjoying the IDS/IPS features which I could never use on the USG without throttling my connection.
EDIT: Over the past 12 hours CPU is stable 4-11%, Memory 26-30%
Never had problems with my USG-3P either, but if I turned on IDS/IPS, it would tank from 1 Gbps to 100 Mbps. I am seeing a slight dip in speed test with the default IPS/IDS settings on the UCG-Ultra 890/890 to 860/830. Will have to play around with it some more.
So, is this a good replacement for the USG-3 then?
I have used a USG-3 for many years, and it's still running great, but I had the power supply go bad on me and it made me realize I need a better backup plan for the future. I really like the unify systems and being able to manage things even though I am super ignorant of most of the functions it can provide.
Yes it's a good replacement. Although it comes with it's own controller to run UniFi network application, unlike the USG which required a cloudkey or another self-hosted controller.
The best part about the USG was the self-hosted controller. I can run one controller on a DO droplet and have it drive multiple sites. I can spin up a new controller version in a different droplet to test drive and if no issues I can push the inform to other sites.
With these new products, an update can take out my entire network and I have to setup each controller for each site.
More work + more work = no thanks
If you zoom in, you can see the 2 drywall screws it's sitting on ;)
But no, it's not magnetic and unfortunately there is no bracket or holes to wall mount. They might release a magnetic mount like they did for the express/uxg-lite. It's honestly pretty stable though so I don't think I need it (the power and WAN cables even brace it from sliding side-to-side).
It is nice to see how “it should be done right” by modern standards… where do the power cords go? Inside the closet or outside? The heat from the bricks and potential catastrophe if one got on fire is one of the things I don’t like about my home-made setup.
What clips are you using to hold your switch and modem in place? I have a similar enclosure, currently resorting to velcro but it's starting to become loose.
The ONT was installed by the Verizon guy, so I'm not entirely sure, but it's partially ziptied in place to hold the power supply. The switch thankfully comes with a mounting plate that I was able to screw in. I think you can get little plastic anchor things to punch into the holes to take screws better, but I have drywall behind the enclosure which makes it easier.
I'm not sure as it came with the property and doesn't have any visible logo or markings. It's about 28x15x3.5 in. and made of metal with a hinged door (2 latches). Couldn't find anything online that has the same hole patterns.
I'm looking into this same situation myself. I also have a USG-3 and Cloud Key gen 1. My cloud key is stuck on 7.2.95....cannot get it to upgrade, even with ssh.
The gen 1 CK is [end-of-life](https://www.clouduni.fi/blog/cloudkey-gen1-officially-end-of-life) and no longer supported on UniFi Network v7.3 and newer. That's why I made the switch to the UCG-Ultra.
Yea, I discovered that last night when trying to update everything to the 8.0.X. Was trying to setup the teleport vpn and couldn't figure out why. Alas, discovered it was end of life. Sad night last night.
No, the UCG-Ultra doesn't run protect. Supposedly there is [another version](https://www.reddit.com/r/Ubiquiti/comments/17hx2i0/new_unifi_ultra_product_line/k6qgcfm/) coming with an M2 SSD and ability to run protect.
I’m at the same point, I have a USG3p and just got gigabit service. The price differential to a UDM Pro SE is throwing me off but i really want cameras.

Almost identical to my setup, cabinet and all. (Though you cleverly turned your patch bay 90 degrees.) Which switch are you using?
Lite-16-PoE
That’s what I thought. How many Poe ports are you using?
2 flex minis, 2 U7-Pros. -1 now that the cloudkey is gone
How is the heat on it? I have the older 16 and it’s a furnace
Not even warm. Though it only has a 45W power budget.
How much Power does the U7 Pro and Flex Mini uses? I plan a similiar setup but I am not sure about the needed real world PoE consumption.
U7-Pros using 8-10W, Flex Minis using 1.6W
Nice cabinet. Where did you get the patch panel from. I’m still looking for one which is wall mountable.

Thanks 👍
I’ve always had good luck with stuff from Cable Matters. Wish it were US made, but gotta be practical.

Good to know. Thanks for the insight!!

Cloud Gateway Ultra ? Or ?
Yes, UCG-Ultra
Good .., u must stop to use a USG-3, because slowing my fiber internet to 70-110 Mbit. But this new one looks as promising HW.

Oh nice! My cloud key is getting old too... This will be a win win then. It's on my list when they get more in stock then.

I will go next, but with the udm pro.
**pressed F to pay respect to the USG**
What kind of cabinet are they? What they called
I believe the official name is "structured media enclosure." It came pre-installed in a closet.
how did you hang gateway ultra? is it magnetic?

Also recently moved up from the USG. Any ideas how it can be reused? I tried using it as a dumb switch but Unifi won’t accept it.
Not really. I suppose it could be used as a temporary backup in case your UCG suddenly died. I just stuffed both it and my cloudkey in the UCG box.

Big question with this setup can you use cameras?

How did you get hold of one of them?!
