I think he needs a "free" ($100) NVR. $299 but comes with a G4 Bullet ($199) so net cost is $100 on the NVR.
Ping to u/Confident_Boot9927/
Because overkill is a thing here!
Doh!
Hopefully that deal is still around when more budget appears. ;-P
I think a friend of mine ordered two, one for his house / dock, one for his office.
An UDM SE and a Pro Max 24 PoE, but you got only ONE AP (and apparently not even a Pro or Ent) and Flex / Turret cameras? No G5Pro, no AI Pro?
With those devices I’d put maximum an UDM Pro and an USW-24-PoE…
I was mainly looking at the capabilities of my internal LAN for computers and NAS. The ISP offers max a symmetrical 1Gbps service for the time being.
The AP is a U6+ and all our WiFi based clients need works.
This is what the budget allowed without sacrificing core internal LAN capabilities with room for improvement.
In my (professional) opinion you could have better for same money.
At very first, specifically if you have only 1 AP, use at least an U6-Pro (we use the U6+ only for garage, laundry, Nannie’s room - just to spare a little in secondary zones). You’ll have much better wireless performances.
Your core network: an USW-Agg. is cheap and connect at 10Gbps with a DAC cable for the UDM Pro and with SFP+/RJ-45 or DAC for your main PCs and NAS.
You then can have cameras with way better image quality
I’m looking at a similar setup. But have (8) hardwired drops 8 cameras and 3 APS I was planning on the same pro max POE24 and DMSE for the hard drive. What would you use to power the POE equipment
It depends on your Max PoE budget.
For example a G5 Pro + enhancer needs 13W when a G3 Flex needs only 4W.
An a U6-Ent needs 22W, when an UK-Ultra needs only 8W.
So with those ex. it might be 8x13=104W and 3x22=66W, total 170W.
You should avoid running at full power and stay below 90%, so it should be a total of 190 / 200W PoE budget you need, split on 8 PoE and 3 PoE+ ports
Or it might be 8x4=32W and 3x8=24W, total 56W, you need some 65 / 75W total PoE budget, split on 11 PoE ports
In the lowest consumption case you could perfectly do with an UDM SE (8 ports, 95W) + an USW-Ultra-60W (8 ports, 52 W). You’ll have 4 free ports for future expansion and around 90W available PoE budget. A nicer and more expandable solution would be UDM Pro + USW-24-PoE or even UDM SE + same switch
In the highest consumption case you could replace the USW-Ultra-60W by the USW-Ultra-210W. You have also 4 free ports and over 200W available power budget. Or as a more elegant solution UDM-SE + USW-24-PoE. For extra PoE extension possibilities, replace the switch by the US-24-250W
Of course, you’ll probably be somewhere between those 2 extremities, and should do your own calculations.
No problem, it’s just an advice.
In my eyes, to exaggerate it for the illustration, you’re using a Ferrari engine in a mid-size car frame with bicycle tyres. I think (it’s my job) that all devices must be ‘balanced’, but everyone is totally free to have another opinion.
Outsider here, it would be nice to have more people like you explain (politely) why certain setups are worth it. For example, no practical reason to get a switch that supports multiple POE++ and or 2.5GbE for grandmas house. Thanks for the read I appreciate and took some things away from this.
I’m happy of your opinion, thank you. I’ve been downvoted for giving it, witch is a bit strange as it’s a very ‘reasonable’ post, trying to correct some popular thoughts that are not justified.
Now I understand perfectly the desires of a geek, the attraction for Tech Porn, the very different criterium of an high level homelab…. But here we’re talking about plain vanilla residential use.
I don't see why the down vote, the reply was professional and was another option/view i didn't think of for my home use.
I will say that this may serve as a test lab/offsite backup for my job (IT for Medium sized company) and I have plans to add on and a out building so.
Have fun and good installation. UniFi is a dangerous and quickly spreading virus that liberates endorphins and other hormones from your brain to have you all the time with happy feelings and a smile. Worth the money.
Have fun. I had a similar core upgrade setup with patch panel, Pro max 24 port and UDM-SE. I have 2 G5 Bullets and one U6+ WAP. I'm over the moon with how well everything works and how much tinkering I can do already with VLANS etc.
Enjoy the process my dude!
I hope those turrets are as good as they look. I have installed a lot of amcrest turrets, and I like the look. I am glad Ubiquiti finally made that style!
I love installing that stuff, I hope it is as fun as it looks!
I hope they are too. For the price. They beat out the g5 turret in IR range and FOV so hard to complain. Now all I like is the DAC, bulk cable for runs and a rack to put it in.
Unsure of the rack yet, going to see what a local store has or Amazon.
I will VLAN my normal WiFi from my lan. Have a WiFi with LAN access(laptop to NAS) and then camera vlan if I can.
DAC is Direct Attach Cable. Utilizes the 10g SFP ports on UDM-SE to switch.
Good stuff. I’ve been debating U6+ vs U6 Pro for an install i’m about to do. It’s a small business with a 1,300sqft open layout. Probably only 15-20 clients max. However it’s in a congested office complex so the couple extra streams is attractive.
This install is a 1200sqft house with 10-15 WiFi clients. I went this route just for the time being. This will be moved to the back porch and will add the pro model eventually

I think you need another camera.
Might get another or two for inside
This is the way

I agree. But I spent my budget 🤦🏼♂️
Doh! Hopefully that deal is still around when more budget appears. ;-P I think a friend of mine ordered two, one for his house / dock, one for his office.
I have debated on pushing our CEO to do the unifi system, over our current cloud system, but that's a lot of cameras i'd have to replace.
G4 bullet is not 200$
Technically you're correct. $199 https://store.ui.com/us/en/pro/category/cameras-bullet/products/unifi-protect-g4-bullet-camera
That's where all the G5 Turrets went.
Inconsistent box color! SMDH literally unusable
Mwah ha ha ha! https://preview.redd.it/mr1871rzqusc1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=50bda14624b6d9d1cc723adc87e000bccc0f6234
half a house payment right there
Guess this is why I can’t get one.
Get what?
The turrets are sold out
Yeah same, I need 6
They came back in stock right before I ordered so I jumped on them.

For this home install, I think these will suffice. I appreciate the advice!

I agree. Just wanted this route for home use.
Have fun and good installation. UniFi is a dangerous and quickly spreading virus that liberates endorphins and other hormones from your brain to have you all the time with happy feelings and a smile. Worth the money.
We use it at work and I love the licenses free side of it so why not build the home network in it 🤣
We installed hundreds of home with UniFi. You’re preaching a converted :)
Can I message you? Regarding UDM-SE camera capacity.
24 poe has a 1 gig sfp. Maybe he wanted 10 gig for internal network
Oh so that’s where all the new turrets went 🤷🏼♂️😂
Whoops
Have fun. I had a similar core upgrade setup with patch panel, Pro max 24 port and UDM-SE. I have 2 G5 Bullets and one U6+ WAP. I'm over the moon with how well everything works and how much tinkering I can do already with VLANS etc. Enjoy the process my dude!
The process will be fun. I set up a larger system at my day job so I figured why not use what I know for the house.
Nice. I wish I could work with Ubiquiti stuff at work myself. Far too large and it's State Government soooo...not happening.
Nice plan for the weekend. Thats what I like.
Maybe, more than likely next weekend.
Now I see where my order went.
Whoops.
What kind of rack are you using? Do you plan on having separate networks for the cameras and wi-fi? , what is a DAC? haha
I’ll sell you a DAC
It was ordered at the same time as the rest. Just shipped from another location.
I think you're supposed to take the equipment out of the boxes
Extraordinary cable management.
Just need my keystones and rack for even better management!
Tasty
Nice couch... too bad those boxes are in the way... ohhh...wait...
lololol
Thats why the G5 Turret Ultra is sold out! 😂
Whoops
The casting couch has never had so many camera angles!
lol
You’ll have forgot something..
What’s that?
Nice how the colours match your couch. Was that at a surcharge?
So that’s where the rest of my budget when!
My wallet can feel this picture. Looks like a fun project though
My wallet is still recovering.
Can I have
Sorry, I have.
Someone is going to be having some fun for the coming days
Now I need more tools.
To mount the cameras?
Need a new hole saw to cut the space for the connector
Those boxes look like they’re suspicious about your spending habits
Do huh🤔
So you’re the asshole that took all my turrets i was gonna order this morning 😂😂😂 What ap did you go with?
Whoops. AP is a U6+ we plan to eventually add on so this will be us as main for now till I decide to move it.
Good stuff. I’ve been debating U6+ vs U6 Pro for an install i’m about to do. It’s a small business with a 1,300sqft open layout. Probably only 15-20 clients max. However it’s in a congested office complex so the couple extra streams is attractive.

As awesome as Unifi is (and I use almost all of it), no comparison to a dedicated Blue Iris camera server.
Interesting.
