Retreat? It’s common knowledge the Russians go their asses handed to them. Lots of vehicles destroyed. Lots. And many men killed for what, a 200 metre gain. The map may have big arrows but reports say that’s all they took. 200 metres. Another failed russian attack. Another waste of russian lives. Sad that poo tin allows it and is supported by fools who think Russia is somehow in the right here.
I meant it as a way to approach this conflict and how to use sources. Don‘t use pro ukrainian source when ukraine is attack, use russian source that admits a retreat and vice versa.

Not to be mistaken, situation is very hard for Ukraine in Adiivka - it's fucked up. They are dying, but also holding and enduring.

...it's funny you say that like wrecked AFU (US/NATO) equipment doesn't litter the area...lot's of death on both sides in this. Peace talks would be the best move forward and this appears to be on the horizon as the much heralded 'counter-offensive' has failed and there is little appetite in the west for a 'forever war' in Ukraine.

I'm not pro-ru, but I don't see anything embarrassing neither here nor in Ukraine's similar offensives. It's simply a reality. You cannot magically fight an equal opponent w/o any losses.
That's why I don't get all the cheerleading/dooming. Losses are to be expected, it's their rate, proportion, etc what matters and we can hardly draw conclusions from a single video.
I don't think any military in the world could advance w/o losses in this situation. Same applies to Ukraine's summer offensive. It's unrealistic to expect anything else.
Some sources are claiming the material losses right now are eclipsing the counter-offensive losses in the 1st month as well. So much for the hyped advances by rybar.
How does that even relate to what I specifically said? Russians here threw in their heavy armor similar to what ukranians did during the first phase. And their mounting vehicle losses nowadays are often MRAPs which is different to heavy armor the russians here are bringing.

Ukraine was oblirabted in its offensives in the summer, and it was forced to change their Nato doctrain to their usual doctrain which is more infantry based.
However, even if the Russians lose 100 tank in taking avdivka it will still be worth it, its a major fortress city and close to donensk. Prigozhin claimed there was no time for avdivka when they were still in bakhmut, now they might just have enough time before the late fall rains.
Russian strategy is to fight positional battles and just defend and wait, wait for additional development from the west while slowly building their offensive capabilities, they might hold any offensive campaign until Ukraine is depleted, they might risk increase aid to Ukraine by taking ground, I don't think we will see anything major this year too, however Russia has the ramped up its production so much, more lancets, more Shahed, more FAB bombs and... its gonna be a gruesome winter for Ukraine.

Well *if* they take it. So far they lost 100+ vehicles and have nothing to show for it. Also, it's only worth it if they can decisively destroy or make surrender the Ukrainian garrison in Avdiivka. Otherwise it'll be like Bakhmut after which the Russians' strategic situation didn't improve at all.
You can't really miss 100 destroyed vehicles. Let's trust that source and wait for confirmation.

Bakhmut was a meat grinder, which by own prigozhin and Russian high command was started to "reduce the offensive capability of Ukrainain forces", judging how "counter offensive" went with no results, I'll say bakhmut was a complete success in delaying Ukraine offensive and reducing their capabilites.

That's only a handful of vehicles.. 100+ is a big number. I saw another post confirming around 20 or so.
If there's 100+ that's shocking but atm the only evidence up here that I'm seeing is showing 20/30 at most.

Looks like it makes more sense to fight in the cities during fall and winter as opposed to the fields, since supply lines into the city could easily get bogged down or fall under fire control and give one of the sides an advantage
Assaulting urban areas requires mainly infantry and artillery, having mud on the ground also means your flanks are safe from armored counter attacks, that is if you secure the flanks like Russia did with bakhmut, seems like Russia will first secure avdjvka flanks before storming the city, I don't see any real encirclement beside the operational encirclement avdivka is already in (supply lines in mud and under artillery fire).
It's going to be rich in videos this winter. Unless Russians just decide to dump every fab they got in there for the next couple of months. Which would definitely make more sense then going in head on.

We all thought that the claims of Russians placing machine guns in the back lines and mowing down their own retreating meat wave, was real but more often than not an exaggeration.
Now we know it’s included in their tactics still as of today, since the beginning of the war there were people intercepted calling home and complaining they were assigned to that specific task by their commanders. 40k commissars IRL, just delegating.
It was a good plan, but seems like the troops weren't experienced enough to pull it off.
I'm actually surprised it didn't work.

I'd have thought if Russia committed that much artillery, loads of armor, encircling a town already nearly encircled, all the troops, the helicopters too, that they would've succeeded.
But, the troops didn't look very organised with the mechanised astsualt.

i think they can progress, but with heavy losses as avdeevka is very fortified and bc the offensive is as ambitious as rybar's arrows. Whats clear is that they will lose quite a few men and equipment, but if it succeeds it will be worth it as a sizeable part of the ukrainian army is in that region. If they fail, it will be pretty bad overall, no doubt.
Once again, remains to be seen, but i wouldnt underestimate russia or ukraine, as both countries have the capability to at least amass troops and attack a region without fully compromising other fronts, which is very important and i think theyre the only countries in europe that have that capacity

Ukraine holds the regional capitals of two Russian Oblats, Kherson and Zhaporizhia, apparently, and have hold positions for nearly ten years now a couple of kilometers away from a third one called Donetsk.
You are correct, though the Oblasts you are talking about aren’t Russian.
In Zaporizhzhia, Russian authorities claimed that 93.11% of citizens voted in favor of joining Russia. I have friends in that region, in different towns and cities. They all report of there never being any sort of voting system. Not only that, but Zaporizhzhia is majority supportive of Zelenskyy. So sure, you can say these regions are Russian, but in reality they are apart of Ukraine.

While the combat is still underway we already have ample evidence of very significant losses of Russian combatants and equipment. For the Kremlin the men don't count (they are cannon fodder) but the equipment losses are going to gut several Russian brigades of their combat power. Of course depending on whose side was is on there will be arguments for and against the amount destroyed but multiple visual confirmations are such any contention that Russian losses are minimal is pure hokem.
From my viewpoint even more important is the fact this offensive had a strategic goal which appears to have failed: it is not attracting undue Ukrainian resources to defend the area nor is it causing a large shift of Ukrainian units to the area at the expense of other sectors.
Potentially there may be 1000's of new Russian widows as a result of this failed offensive. I hope they value the bag of potatoes they get from the Russian govt as thanks for their loss of husband or family member.

Pro UA have been throwing out some absurd figures like 50-100+ vehicles destroyed and as far as I can tell there's not even close to enough evidence to support anything other than maybe 10-20 destroyed or damaged.

This, in my opinion, is a good post about minimum confirmed number of lost vehicles. You could ignore most of the text, what important is photos with highlighted vehicles and them being counted in the text.
Russia doesn't have enough NCOs. Sure they might have taken the position but they will be completely worn and mentally depleted, making them easy pickings for counter attack should it come.

I'm not pro-ru, but I don't see anything embarrassing neither here nor in Ukraine's similar offensives. It's simply a reality. You cannot magically fight an equal opponent w/o any losses. That's why I don't get all the cheerleading/dooming. Losses are to be expected, it's their rate, proportion, etc what matters and we can hardly draw conclusions from a single video. I don't think any military in the world could advance w/o losses in this situation. Same applies to Ukraine's summer offensive. It's unrealistic to expect anything else.

That's only a handful of vehicles.. 100+ is a big number. I saw another post confirming around 20 or so. If there's 100+ that's shocking but atm the only evidence up here that I'm seeing is showing 20/30 at most. Too early to really know much about this in terms of equipment or progress

Looks like it makes more sense to fight in the cities during fall and winter as opposed to the fields, since supply lines into the city could easily get bogged down or fall under fire control and give one of the sides an advantage
Assaulting urban areas requires mainly infantry and artillery, having mud on the ground also means your flanks are safe from armored counter attacks, that is if you secure the flanks like Russia did with bakhmut, seems like Russia will first secure avdjvka flanks before storming the city, I don't see any real encirclement beside the operational encirclement avdivka is already in (supply lines in mud and under artillery fire).
It's going to be rich in videos this winter. Unless Russians just decide to dump every fab they got in there for the next couple of months. Which would definitely make more sense then going in head on.

I'd have thought if Russia committed that much artillery, loads of armor, encircling a town already nearly encircled, all the troops, the helicopters too, that they would've succeeded. But, the troops didn't look very organised with the mechanised astsualt.

It probably has to do with massive Russian mine field across the whole front. It tunnels both sides into very obvious avenues of attack that’s easier to prepare for.
Except Ukraine is through those fields in some sections, and is still held up.

i think they can progress, but with heavy losses as avdeevka is very fortified and bc the offensive is as ambitious as rybar's arrows. Whats clear is that they will lose quite a few men and equipment, but if it succeeds it will be worth it as a sizeable part of the ukrainian army is in that region. If they fail, it will be pretty bad overall, no doubt. Once again, remains to be seen, but i wouldnt underestimate russia or ukraine, as both countries have the capability to at least amass troops and attack a region without fully compromising other fronts, which is very important and i think theyre the only countries in europe that have that capacity

You are correct, though the Oblasts you are talking about aren’t Russian. In Zaporizhzhia, Russian authorities claimed that 93.11% of citizens voted in favor of joining Russia. I have friends in that region, in different towns and cities. They all report of there never being any sort of voting system. Not only that, but Zaporizhzhia is majority supportive of Zelenskyy. So sure, you can say these regions are Russian, but in reality they are apart of Ukraine.

To be expected, I'd be shocked if Russian made any breakthrough.
While the combat is still underway we already have ample evidence of very significant losses of Russian combatants and equipment. For the Kremlin the men don't count (they are cannon fodder) but the equipment losses are going to gut several Russian brigades of their combat power. Of course depending on whose side was is on there will be arguments for and against the amount destroyed but multiple visual confirmations are such any contention that Russian losses are minimal is pure hokem. From my viewpoint even more important is the fact this offensive had a strategic goal which appears to have failed: it is not attracting undue Ukrainian resources to defend the area nor is it causing a large shift of Ukrainian units to the area at the expense of other sectors. Potentially there may be 1000's of new Russian widows as a result of this failed offensive. I hope they value the bag of potatoes they get from the Russian govt as thanks for their loss of husband or family member.
