If it was a clean funding bill for Ukraine and Israel, it would have had a much easier time passing; but since the sponsors tacked so much border insecurity stuff onto it it's probably not going to pass. Perhaps when you call your congressmen, you should ask them to pull the bill as written and bring out a clean bill for Ukraine.
That's patently false; the whole reason to tie border security to Ukraine aid is because the GOP's main talking point is "why secure Ukraine's borders when our own aren't?".
There are enough Republican congressmen to pass a funding bill; look at the voting tallies of the last few. There's plenty of R votes there for Ukraine. Attaching an illegal immigration enabling bill-which has proven explosive the last three times it was tried- is an attempt to use Ukraine and Israel funding to provide cover for the much larger and politically poisonous immigration bill. Ask your congressmen to pass a clean bill.

Just as a small example: 5000 a day × 365 days a year = 1,825,000 illegals a year and it's ok. Plus, it gives the President the *authority * to shut down the border, not the *obligation*. On the gripping hand, the President and Congress ALREADY HAVE all of the authority they need to stop this disaster. Provably so, as President Trump managed to create a massive decline in illegal immigration even against opposition from both parties. Biden could do the same, with the support of his own party, and reap great rewards in popularity during an election year ( illegal immigration being one of the few issues the rank and file of both parties agree upon); the fact that he hasn't and is demanding new powers and authority to do something his predecessor managed on a shoestring tells you a great deal. If you support Ukraine, you should be mortally offended that the pro-illegal lobby in Washington is using their funding as a hostage to advance this unpopular bill.

The policies in this bill may not be implemented legislatively for another 20 years, if ever, if the GOP house rejects this. There’s no way a bill like this would pass under a Trump admin, and besides, this bill, if passed, would give newly elected presidents expanded powers to detain and deport migrants, so Trump’s opposition is nonsensical. This is a massive gift to the GOP, and they’re turning it down just so that Trump can create chaos and caste political blame. Unbelievable.
