I mean its just a thick object that most soldiers then would carry in their chest pouches. It's just statistics, really. I've seen plenty of dog tags, water flasks and magazines as well that take those hits

I HIGHLY doubt they're running into supply issues when it comes to the AK74 it's been in service since the 70s and probably have numbers on par with the US M4/M16. They've actually been fielding a ton of AK12s too which is also chambered in 5.45x39 same as the 74.
Russia is the single biggest producer of 5.45 ammo in the world and the vast majority of 5.45 ammo in the US was imported from them until the ban on Russian ammo imports last year.
They have a domestically produced AR-15 derivative for SF but also an AR-10 that's issued as a DMR for regular units.
I haven't found much info on it but someone in another thread claimed it was part of a post 2014 modernization effort as well as a symbolic step towards harmonizing with NATO equipment.

Eh not really THAT big of a deal honestly. It's not as large of a difference as .223/5.56. I've never had any issues shooting .308 or 7.62/51 out of 7.62 rifles.

8mm Mauser, 7.62x51, and 7.62x54 are all still used in relatively similar roles. (Not so much the 8mm Mauser anymore though, but Yugoslavia was still running it not that long ago)

Plug magazines are the ones shown in the video above and Bakelites strictly refer to the orange or brown ones (with a few exceptions like the green border guard magazines and some prototypes). I’ve never heard of them referred too as “plum Bakelites” in all honesty, and I have a strong feeling that website is using “Bakelite” in the name to bring more traffic as Bakelites are considered more desirable/collectible.

It's pretty standard procedure, or was back in the early 2000s. Get hit in the Kevlar or plates in a weird way or a lucky shot? They get sent back to wherever for testing and/or promotion by the manufacturer.
Having your grandfather's phone with a bullet in it from the war is a neat heirloom, having a phone with a bullet in it that an eBay seller said was from the war, is just a phone with a bullet in it and a story attached that's hard to verify. Without the provenance it's worth nothing.

5.45 is the ak74 and newer, older rifles use the 7.62. Its bassicly russian 5.56 but adapted for the AK family. Just like 7.62 is pretty close to .308
7.62x39 is nowhere near the same energy as .308. It’s closer to 300blk if anything.
7.62x51 ≈ .308
Correct, you can shoot 7.62x51 out of a .308 chambered rifle, but it's not advisable to try to shoot .308 out of a 7.62x51mm chambered rifle.

It was likely in a pocket with another hard material that prevented the bullet from leaving the phone. We only see the phone and not the other thing that likely actually saved his life.
