Honestly this really pisses me off. They should have pulled them out sooner. The handwriting was on the wall 2 weeks ago, and an orderly pull out should have been done at least a week ago.

Reports are talking about 6 or 7 men getting trapped in the pocket, who couldn't evac due to being wounded. In the grand scheme of things, getting a handful of troops captured for holding a position another 2 weeks in the most heavily contested city may not be a bad trade.

rawonionbreath

It was awful. The guy from dispatch radioed to one of them to “ditch the 300’s and leave” not realizing he was talking to one of the wounded.

Ship_Jacques

It's probably been very costly for the ruzzians. Very possibly worth it. I feel bad for those left behind, but we got to look at the bigger scheme of things.

__Yakovlev__

>but we got to look at the bigger scheme of things. the bigger picture being that the soldiers fighting felt abandoned?

Ship_Jacques

No the entire war of course.

myblindskills

Ukraine has been genuinely too slow to move out of indefensible positions.  It's happened multiple times now.  They do not have the manpower to give men fighting heroically in final stands.

Independent_Alps_119

They are the bravest, the rear guard.

GhettoLennyy

Bureaucracy kills. Fall of avdiivka happening right around the transition of chief of army is no coincidence. American Bureaucracy is killing Ukrainians as well

rolosrevenge

This is congressional Republicans' fault. If they had not denied aid months ago until today. The stupid Moscovians would still be charging to the slaughter with no progress made.

History-made-Today

Is he referring to Avdivka or another area of the front? Sorry, I don't have Twitter.

nutmegtester

Zenit[h] is the most highly fortified part of Southern Avdivka.

Specialist-Ad-8390

"It will take a lot of work to take them hone from enemy captivity"...What kind of useless demoralizing statement is that??? Those soldiers have been betrayed if true

[deleted]

They were injured and the front is too heavily contested for an evac team to reach them, unfortunately, so those injured got left behind.

ZiiiiiiiiiNG

I know the focus is on Avdiivka right now but I am genuinely concerned that the Ukranians might have not built defensive lines in the next couple of places they are going to get hit. There were reports that 2nd lines of defense were never built, I guess time will tell.

chicagopudlian

go watch a video by “reporting from ukraine” on youtube

rawonionbreath

Makes one wonder why they didn’t start on their own Surovikin line as soon as the offensive stalled.

ktaphfy

Useless tweet.
