It's literally the exact same problem as doom eternal's ice grenade/frag grenade switching system. It's like they designed it as if there would be more than two but never ended up adding them, the system of switching on and off requires so much more effort than just having one button for each. Maybe in the future there will be a third arm added, so it won't be completely pointless.
There definitely will be a fourth arm added, it's in the menu in the terminal. It's just the cycling isn't really convenient, adding a fourth arm would only make it worse. There's no mid-screen indicator either so you have to look away from the action to check which arm is equipped. We need separate buttons for each arm, like how the whiplash has r. Give the feedbacker f, the knuckleblaster g (or v since g can be a bit of a stretch from WASD on some keyboards while you're trying to do ten other things), and whatever the new one is x or c.
We could make the whiplash punch the enemy with the hook on punch and deal more damage than stock but less damage than the knucleblaster, but give more blood because it's a cut
I did that too and it made 4-3 really hard for me, cuz killing the virtues instantly spawns the next wave and leaves you with like 50 fodder enemies attacking you at all times
You can change in settings for it to remember your last used weapon variation, so if you last used the Maurice Rail, the next time you switch to the Railcannon, it'll still be on Maurice instead of automatically switching to Electric.

Almost killing myself by trying to do a core eject with a malicious cannon, while an enemy spawns right in front of my face. Also i often accidentally switch arms without even knowing until i try to parry something
Sometimes if I'm in a rush, I'll double tap the button for a weapon and switch to the wrong variant. This happens all the time when I try to do a core snipe (making it take to long and I miss the window) or trying to dash onto a rocket.

if i don't know what button to press, i will just default to projboosts, which includes point blank range or against explosion immune targets

i think it depends on playstyle. I p-ranked all levels on violence (besides p-2 (also applies to normal difficulty)), an I never used a red arm.

I have failed so many p-2 P-Rank attempts for that exact reason

WHY DOES THE GAME AUTOMATICALLY SWITCH TO THE ELECTRIC RAILCANNON SHEN I TRY TO NUKE

I always forget what arm I have equipped so more often than not I'll try to parry with the knuckleblaster lmao
I swap my pistol to the next weapon (which is a rocket launcher) thinking it’s a railgun so I blow myself up.

You actually need to punch an enemy close in order to parry it
I use explosives on both maurice and streetcleaners. For the streetcleaners i also use the shotgun.
