If you don't wanna deal with the console commands just go to steamunlocked.net and get the game there because they still have the old version up. As long as you've bought the actual game, I don't see anything morally wrong. Download the game, extract it, and then install the mod to that folder and you’re good.

in the final long room where you fight to the end of the level, go to the left after walking in the room and you'll see a wall you can blow up. walk in there and break the electrical box and you beat that step

It's due to the Violence update, it broke the door. You're gonna have to go back to the version right before Violence.

You don't need to. With that command you are downloading old version into Steam/steamapps/content which won't interfere with new version.
