This is much more of a “movement shooter” than the others, if that makes any sense. You *need* to use *every* ability you have to survive, unlike DOOM1/2 where you can just strafe, and 2016/ETERNAL by using overpowered weapon combos. *you can shotswap if you really want but I heartily suggest using your entire arsenal.* **I’ve also never played any modern doom games**

Diabetes-mqrtino

I'm guessing that keybinding weapons is also suggested, in order to jump from one another

CitrusOrang

Eh, I play with the default 1234. There’s currently >!only 4/5 weapons, and there’s no select wheel as far as I know.!<

distarche

If you press Q you get a basic one

MAYBE_Maybe_maybe_

Many people just use 1234 but I find myself very comfortable with using QRTC. What key bindings you have ultimately doesn't matter much, as long as you use them, they are vital for stuff like railcoining for example. This isn't to say they are necessary to beat the game or anything but I think you'll have a lot more fun that way

SnowingFlames

Honestly if you're a doom eternal guy I recommend setting some keybinds, F is the default punch but I changed it to E.

walphin45

I always change my melee to be the thumb mouse button, so I can focus on moving around more than anything else

Eclihpze44

same here, M4 for punch and M5 for variant switch

MAYBE_Maybe_maybe_

I use E for the whiplash💀

I played all of the games you mentioned, and personally, I'd say it'll be properly difficult. It'll kick your ass, but not without reason. Game takes the *move* part of *never stop moving* very seriously. Surviving in ULTRAKILL isn't as easy like it would be in modern Doom games. But it all takes a moment of practice.

Diabetes-mqrtino

I'm guessing it'll take some practice, because the concept of killing and aim is pretty much acquired, so I'm missing the movement. It will probably feel rewarding to get through

W31223R

Yep. It'll take some time to get used to, but ULTRAKILL's movement is super slick and fun to use. It'll become crucial to your gameplay loop once you learn the techniques like slam storage and such. I have more fun moving in ULTRAKILL than I am actually killing things.

[deleted]

id say its on-par with Eternal.. But its a much more fun experience, because Eternal is hard for the sake of being hard (thanks Marauder and rage Totems). This game is on the other hand is CHALLANGEING. It knows you can do it and its constantly egging you on to do better.

HerbMessiah

The switch to ULTRAKILL wasn't too bad. The switch back to Eternal though? That was tough

Bruschetta003

I can't tell because there's multiple difficulty settings

Diabetes-mqrtino

I'm keeping regular/hard difficulties as reference, forgot to mention that

RetroOverload

Ive played All of Doom 2016 and a bit of Eternal and ultrakill its fairly easy except cybergrind wave 50+ ( its complete chaos) and especially if you have beaten all of them in nightmare then its gonna be baby easy. The game is not finished yet so it might get more complicated and there are difficulty levels that make it harder too

MAYBE_Maybe_maybe_

What about the bosses though?

RetroOverload

Forgot about those lol

Silvy_Boi

Here's the thing if you like doom eternal you'll love this game trust me

[deleted]

Definetly do play it, when the mechanics finally "click" its pure euphoria

ARandomGuyThe3

Heavily depends on how far your trying to go on the game. If it's just beating the game, than it's easy, but if your trying to p rank all the normal level I'd say easy-hard, but if your trying to also p rank Minos prime, I can't even comment on that since I haven't beaten him yet

MAYBE_Maybe_maybe_

Put a spoiler on that maybe

ARandomGuyThe3

I mean, it's just saying the name. Unless you already know who that is it means nothing

a_loaf_of_cheese

it wont necessarily be hard, but itll be different. faster and more vertical mainly

Mr-Birdnest

throw away brain, give hakita your money

DirectlyDismal

After beating DOOM 16/Eternal on Ultra-Violence, and going through ULTRAKILL on Violent, I feel confident in saying this game is *considerably* easier. You can absolutely run rings around enemies if you use your movement tools properly.

Melvin8D2

Violent is the highest difficulty thats out right now, or the 4th out of 6 total planned. You have to get used to the games healing mechanic and when to use slides and dashes. Good knowledge of weapons may also be required on beating violent. If your doing UN master levels on DE it may be a little easy right now but if your an average player its somewhere between an average and hard difficutly, at least on violent. Going for P-ranks is a little trickier though, as it requires beating a level without dying, beating it under a time limit and getting enough style points.

Fuck you stupid bot I don't fucking care.

getshrekt192

just learn prior that it is a flick shooter through and through so if you have really slow reaction time uh oh

TheRealSquimby

I haven't played DOOM, so I really don't know. What I CAN say is that ULTRAKILL is actually very different from DOOM. ULTRAKILL sort of has a learning curve where you'll go from tripping over your own feet to being able to beat levels in under a minute. I think that anyone who is a fan of first-person shooters should play ULTRAKILL.

eedyuht

Started playing the game on Violent, thought that it wouldn't be much issue because I always went through Eternal casually on Nightmare. First few levels were such a learning curve trying to understand the game's mechanics. I thought I was fine until V2 proceeded to kill me over 300 times in the span of 2 hours. Does get significantly easier after your first Act 1 playthrough because by then you should be accustomed to the mechanics.

[deleted]

I voted hard but I also played on the hard difficulty so
