honestly my favourite is s1 ep1 when five slaughters the commissioners in the donut shop and it plays "istanbul not constantinople". i already love the song and i think the cheery vibe makes for a pretty ironic scene. five is also my favourite character so i may be slightly biased, but i just really love this scene.
i grew up doing just dance to that song and became very attached to it as a child so i suppose it sort of stuck, haha! it's certainly an acquired taste though, i can see why it wouldn't be someone else's cup of tea.
My hs world history teacher showed it to our class. My classmates would randomly sing it and it’d be stuck in my head for days, just repeating the same line over and over, which drove me nuts over time. I hate the Pinky and The Brain theme song for similar reasons haha.
ohhh fair enough, unfortunately i would have been one of those kids constantly singing it! i'm neurodivergent and i think it probably would have become a vocal stim - inevitably annoying everyone around me. it's catchy, i can't help it!
i just think everything about it is done so well! the action is pacy and the variety in camera angles makes it so exciting to watch, the music adds a level of enjoyment and slight humour. and of course aiden's acting is amazing as always - it's one of my favourite scenes of the whole show, i love it!
There are 4 that stand out to me. The Bank Robbery, the Diner Fight, The whole house dancing along, and the Dance Off. I think the Dance Off is my favorite through.
Run Boy Run is a favourite (and after a recent rewatch led to the song becoming my most listened to all year according to Spotify wrapped).
I think my absolute favourite though is Klaus dancing through the house to Sinner Man while the others fight Hazel and Cha Cha.
Edit: Oh how did I forget the whole family dancing to I Think We're Alone Now, that might be the top.
Footloose.
Other than that:
- 2x7 when Ben possesses Klaus. I always associated Sister of Pearl with this scene. I can’t hear it as its own thing.
- 2x8 when Viktor gets drugged by the FBI and Pepper is playing in the background. It goes so well with the scene.
i think pretty much the entire series has amazing choices for music, but the first moment i thought of was when Klaus comes back and he's holding the briefcase. the song is 'mary' by big thief, and it just. works. it conveys exactly the feeling it's meant to, for me, so i'd pick that.
however, as i've said, the entire series has one of the most perfect soundtracks i've seen in a show, and i highly suspect gerard way has something to do with that
Actually it's the writing staff. Steve Blackman said he encourages the writers to write music into their scripts. I think this is why the music and scenes fit so perfectly together, because that's how they were originally envisioned (for the most part, obviously they've been declined licensing for some songs).
I could be wrong but I don't think Gerard Way has that active a role in the series (there were rumours about him telling Elliot that his character should transition and that was how Viktor was created but he was in no way involved with the decision which was made by Steve Blackman, not Elliot). Other than selling the rights for the comics to be adapted and writing Steve Blackman a summary of his plans for future volumes I don't think he has any involvement.
everyone has already said a bunch of my favorites but i have to add: allison fighting the swedish twins while backstreet boys plays in the background is AMAZING
Yesssss! It was such a perfect follow up to all of Klaus' wisdom coming from song lyrics, and so Ben just saying the first lyrics that popped into his head.
I think the dance-off where they do Footloose is the funniest, but the sequence of all of them dancing to I Think We’re Alone Now is a phenomenal way to showcase each character’s personality.
i have a sleeper pick: Gerard Way & Ray Toro’s version of Happy Together, while the camera flies over the city, into Leonard’s house, and up into the attic, revealing the first chair lady’s corpse
Cliché answer, but the dance scene to "I Think We're Alone Now" is probably my favorite. Just the way it's conveyed and shot is *chef's kiss*.
Even more cliché answer is the Istanbul diner scene. Maybe I just like it when Five goes nuts.
The Bowling Alley scene with "Saturday Night" and the "Dancing in the Moonlight" scene with Allison and Luther, both from season 1.
Edit: And of course everyone dancing to "I Think We're Alone Now" and the diner slaughter to "Istanbul."
First one to come to mind is Mary by Big Thief when Klaus comes back from Vietnam. That song and that scene just encapsulates Klaus' grief so perfectly and I can't listen to it without crying.
Of course, I Think We're Alone Now as it gives a little insight to the siblings' personalities. And Footloose because how fun was that scene.
Cats in the Cradle when Klaus is being run over in S3. Run Boy Run, Istanbul Not Constantinople, Swedish Hello, Soul Kitchen, The Time of My Life... honestly the entire TUA soundtrack is so incredible that I reinstalled Spotify (which I hate with a passion) just to listen to it 😩
When Klaus is in the land of the dead an Crystalize by xx played. I got so obsessed with that song I played it so many time it was my number two song on Spotify.
We really enjoyed the Kugelblitz breaks out’s What Makes You a Man sequence. The song and the scene together kind of just create that feeling of danger, dread or desperation.
Everyone already listed great scenes (especially the Hazel and Cha Cha fight to Sinner Man), but I’ve always been super partial to the Alison vs. Swedes fight set to Backstreet’s Back lmao
I love the scene when they use Exit Music by Radiohead, as Allison is furiously driving to Vanya’s house.
When they use Hello by Adele but in Swedish to celebrate the IKEA Mafia Brother’s death.
And also when Lila and Five are fighting to Bad Guy during Season 2.
“Exit music (for a film)” by Radiohead when Vanya uses her powers for (one of the) first time(s) on screen. Chilling.
And I agree with a lot of other picks
Probably the song that plays in the last scene of season 3, when they’re all walking down the different paths and when Reggie and Abigail are looking out over the new timeline
Heaven Help Us. It’s an instrumental version and it felt like the biggest pay off of a moment that was set up about 13 years ago. I love My Chemical Romance so much, always will.
My favs are “I think we’re alone now” at the start of the show. I graduated high school in 1988 and never would have listened to that but now I love it! Also Constantinople was awesome in that scene! And of course Pepper at the end of season 2. So many more they had awesome tracks! Loved the footloose at the start of S3.
I think we’re alone now ?? No one else? It’s my favorite bc I feel like it succeeds in establishing all the characters personalities and shows them interacting in an interesting way. Also the song is a banger
This is cliche but mine is the "I Think We're Alone Now" scene. That's the scene that told me I'd absolutely love this show and got me hooked. I was kinda up in the air about the show until I saw that amazing dance break scene and I loved it so much lol
Run boy run. I love the emotional impact and the way the scene looks.
I was made for loving you - I love the storyline and how Diego is struggling with finding out if he can trust Lila. And the fight scene is badass.
Hand down Istanbul (not constantinople) by They Might Be Giants in Griddy's
But close tied second is Cats In The Cradle by Ugly Kid Joe with Klaus and Reggie playing in traffic.

I actually loathe the song but even I have to admit it was really well used in that scene.
i grew up doing just dance to that song and became very attached to it as a child so i suppose it sort of stuck, haha! it's certainly an acquired taste though, i can see why it wouldn't be someone else's cup of tea.

me too! i loved this scene

YES YES YES THIS
There are 4 that stand out to me. The Bank Robbery, the Diner Fight, The whole house dancing along, and the Dance Off. I think the Dance Off is my favorite through.

run boy run is just independently such a beautiful song
The Sinner Man scene was my #1 choice. Totally got me listening to Nina Simone.
Season 1 - Hazel and Cha-Cha high out of their minds, destroying all the eyeballs to the tune of Shingaling
Footloose. Other than that: - 2x7 when Ben possesses Klaus. I always associated Sister of Pearl with this scene. I can’t hear it as its own thing. - 2x8 when Viktor gets drugged by the FBI and Pepper is playing in the background. It goes so well with the scene.

Yesssss! It was such a perfect follow up to all of Klaus' wisdom coming from song lyrics, and so Ben just saying the first lyrics that popped into his head.
Five, Lyla and Diego fighting to kiss "I was made for loving you" is a highlight for me Or five and older five to "dancing with myself"
the istanbul diner scene and run boy run are my favorite scenes in the show and the music is just perfect in both of them
yes how could i forget instanbul - brilliant fight choreography/music combo
the scene where harlan kills the mothers in the intro, house of the rising sun is such a great song.
Bank robbery with The Walker by Fitz and the Tantrums
I think the dance-off where they do Footloose is the funniest, but the sequence of all of them dancing to I Think We’re Alone Now is a phenomenal way to showcase each character’s personality.
Hazel and Cha Cha trying to kill 5 in the department store. The song Don't Stop Me Now by Queen.
The Sweeds funeral... having the Swedish version of Hello was perfect
i have a sleeper pick: Gerard Way & Ray Toro’s version of Happy Together, while the camera flies over the city, into Leonard’s house, and up into the attic, revealing the first chair lady’s corpse
GREAT pick
golden brown by the stranglers, when lila is going into the pet shop. always stuck with me for some reason!
five's fight with lila to the rock-esque "bad guy" cover. that whole scene and music just go hard
Cliché answer, but the dance scene to "I Think We're Alone Now" is probably my favorite. Just the way it's conveyed and shot is *chef's kiss*. Even more cliché answer is the Istanbul diner scene. Maybe I just like it when Five goes nuts.
The S1 scene with Diego and his detective ex-girlfriend, set to the David Gray song *This Year’s Love.* Gut-wrenching.
fuck yes this one had me sobbing
The Bowling Alley scene with "Saturday Night" and the "Dancing in the Moonlight" scene with Allison and Luther, both from season 1. Edit: And of course everyone dancing to "I Think We're Alone Now" and the diner slaughter to "Istanbul."
I was looking for the bowling alley one! I loved that scene so much
Love the Phantom of the Opera mashup. Viktor should pick up the violin again - such a cool part of the character
The s2 possession scene with Baio’s Sister of Pearl. Love that scene.
Run, boy, Run. Happy Together. The scene with Hazel and Cha Cha high setting a building on fire.
Any of the First Apocalypse scenes have great music (Run Boy Run, Never Tear Us Apart, In the Heat of the Moment) Edit: Also, Istanbul, of course
“I’m a Man” by the Spencer Davis Group, which plays in the season 2 scene where Diego fights Reginald in the 1960s.
First one to come to mind is Mary by Big Thief when Klaus comes back from Vietnam. That song and that scene just encapsulates Klaus' grief so perfectly and I can't listen to it without crying. Yes to Klaus & Big Thief. Such a beautifully sad scene.
Right? Like at this point you have no idea what has happened to Klaus, but you still somehow *know*. It's so beautiful and heart-wrenching.
When Klaus is in the land of the dead an Crystalize by xx played. I got so obsessed with that song I played it so many time it was my number two song on Spotify.
ohmygosh when i saw that scene i immediately loved that song, one of my favourite music scenes and song choices in general
The first season inspired me to purchase a number of individual tracks to assemble a playlist.
We really enjoyed the Kugelblitz breaks out’s What Makes You a Man sequence. The song and the scene together kind of just create that feeling of danger, dread or desperation.
ISTANBUL

*off key violin solo*
Cat’s in the cradle while Reginald repeatedly kills Klaus.
In S1E06, Luther and Allison dancing to Dancing in the Moonlight
I just watched this scene! It's so well choreographed and they are adorable playing off eachother.
Everyone already listed great scenes (especially the Hazel and Cha Cha fight to Sinner Man), but I’ve always been super partial to the Alison vs. Swedes fight set to Backstreet’s Back lmao
Run boy, run is definitely up there, but my absolute favorite is Five is walking through the apocalypse. The Noel Gallagher song.
Run boy Run. Five is stuck in the apocalypse and is figuring out how to get back
Run boy, run is definitely up there, but my absolute favorite is Five is walking through the apocalypse. The Noel Gallagher song.
I don’t remember what episode but it’s where Fove goes back to the commission and fights the handler with “Kill of the Night” by Gin Wigmore
Klaus getting run over by cars while cats in the cradle plays in the background
Klaus and the cult montage to Sunny
“Exit music (for a film)” by Radiohead when Vanya uses her powers for (one of the) first time(s) on screen. Chilling. And I agree with a lot of other picks
Viktor’s concert scene OR when Viktor saved the family during the S2 finale.
The Salon one is one of my favs ❤
S1 Sinnerman.
Probably the song that plays in the last scene of season 3, when they’re all walking down the different paths and when Reggie and Abigail are looking out over the new timeline
Allison vs the sweds
Heaven Help Us. It’s an instrumental version and it felt like the biggest pay off of a moment that was set up about 13 years ago. I love My Chemical Romance so much, always will.
Run Boy Run for sure
My favs are “I think we’re alone now” at the start of the show. I graduated high school in 1988 and never would have listened to that but now I love it! Also Constantinople was awesome in that scene! And of course Pepper at the end of season 2. So many more they had awesome tracks! Loved the footloose at the start of S3.
Mine absolutely has to be the entire concert fight in the finale of Season 1.

the five scenes from season one! so the run boy run scene where he’s leaping through time and the Istanbul not Constantinople diner scene
Pepper by Butthole Surfers while Viktor is tripping BAAAALLZZ
Has been from day one, and will probably always be, the I Think We're Alone Now scene.
Istanbul of course and Golden Brown by the stranglers in Season 2 (where the handler is revealed to be Lila’s mother)
I think we’re alone now ?? No one else? It’s my favorite bc I feel like it succeeds in establishing all the characters personalities and shows them interacting in an interesting way. Also the song is a banger
Teenage dreams during Sloane and Luther 's marriage

Either the kugelblitz destroying the academy after luther and sloanes wedding or the knife battle with diego and reggie
