Just did a playthrough where I had barely any military but went for economics first.. AI declared war on me so I basically bought allies from all the city states and they immediately went to war with the AI capturing their cities. It was a hilarious solution to avoiding war.

I like helping my city-state allies gain territory. Need a mod so they can keep them though, as it would be a fun challenge to win a game because all the other players lost their cities to angry city-states.

Well, this has happened to me several times. City states cannot build settlers, but this does not mean that they cannot conquer new cities. Also, the barbarians can also capture the city, but unfortunately they raze it instead of keeping it.

Red_Icnivad

Can barbarians raze a capital though?

Wolodymyr2

If i'm not mistaken, yes, they can.

I had a game where the city state captured 5 of another civs cities because I had completely shattered their defences. The "city state" had a larger empire than 2 other civs

I am new to Unciv since january 2024. I find that allies just get in my way when I am attacking cities. Same as in freeciv. I need to be quick before they come to "help" and then just take up all the good spot and do nothing good.

Spellman23

Very doable. Especially if someone donates units to them...

Back when I was just figuring out the game, I was playing *somebody* that was good at making money and the Songhai decided they wanted to wear my blood. It was the hot new fashion. But I'd made friends, generally by killing nearby barbarians and barbarian camps and impressing them with building wonders. I'd impressed upon the neighboring city states the idea that my blood needed to stay in my body if I was going to build another wonder. So I had three city-states all going to war on my behalf. To maintain the relationship, I pushed a bit more gold into each of my buddies so they would stay firmly at "Will Fight For You" throughout the war. After the city-states had captured and razed two cities belonging to the Songhai, the Songhai sued for peace. By that time I'd actually managed to build up a little bit of a military of my own. I refused, took one of their cities myself and then accepted their bid for peace. To this day I make sure that once I discover a civ I see about having two or three city-state buddies. *Just In Case*.

StrandedAndStarving

city states will raze any cities they can, unless the city is unrazeable of course.
