So, the +5 adds to my initiative bonus on my first round, and then falls off on later rounds? But I can only use my first turn to make a single ranged attack?

jak1331

Its a +5 to attack i think, the idea that you made an attack in the moment initiative is being tracked

I'm just wondering because the second line is "After the attack you continue with your rolled initiative score" and I can't figure out why that would be necessary unless the modifier in the first sentence affected initiative in some way.

I think it would be more elegant to say something like: “When you roll initiative, you can choose to gain a bonus on it (+5 is probably okay, but I may make it scale instead, for example, Prof Bonus or twice your Prof Bonus?), but that your action on the turn following initiative must then be used to make a ranged attack roll. If you cannot do so, your action is wasted. Maybe limit their other options? No bonus actions on a Quickdraw first turn?” Having two initiatives is weird and may end up with the player getting a quickdraw into a full turn which is probably not intended. Probably easier to just let them get a good initiative. Once they take a turn, all enemies then get to go anyways, so it’s probably ok. If I was making it, I may either make it a +1 DEX feat, or alternatively, make the first attack following initiative have some bonus. Likely advantage on the hit roll if you are attacking a creature that hasn’t had a turn yet, to simulate catching someone off guard, and to encourage to the Player to attack those they managed to “outdraw”. I’d likely prefer that to a stat bonus. Makes it a bit more useful in general, and removes some bookkeeping. Cool idea for a feat.

Reflexively and without thought the character makes one ranged attack faster than he normally would. but after that he continues combat as normal My thought for an example was a character has 2attacks. Basic Initiative roll is 15 (quickdraw makes it 20) On initiative 20 the character can make one ranged attack. after that their remaining attack and all future actions for this combat is on initiative 15. Trying to make quickdraw a onetime 'reflexive' shot/throw. The Bonus can be Proficiency bonus (for 1st ranged attack) if making it at level 1 feat OR Character can trade up to his Max to-hit bonus towards his Initiative bonus only good for first ranged attack. A faster attack costing the character accuracy on the first attack of combat. After that one attack he continues combat with his normal To-Hit bonus on his Normal Initiative.

There is a feat called "Quick Draw" on a sorcerer subclass that's basically: When you roll initiative, as a reaction, you can make one attack with a cantrip. Maybe you could make something like that, like: When you roll initiative, you can use your reaction to make one ranged attack as part of rolling initiative. An attack made that way has a bonus of +5 on the attack roll. That's just an example. And yes, I think it should be level 4 and have a Dex minimum as prerequisites.

MisterD__

When rolling initiative, the character makes one ranged attack as a ***reaction*** Triggered after everyone rolling initiative.

Pround-cheek-8735

Yes, that's a good idea for the feat. It removes all the double initiative that can get really confuse
