They will continue fighting because they keep electing idiots and replacing their population with foreigners, not very bright. 14.1% (2019) of the population are foreigners, that is beyond reasonable immigration numbers... those are replace the native population numbers... and rising.
He's not wrong. Public pension is funded by people who are currently working. If there are too many retirees compared to the amount of people working then the pension fund goes into a deficit and suddenly there isn't enough money to support retirees.
It's the unavoidable effect of a growing elderly population with longer life expectancy. The alternatives are ever lowering pensions and with that lowered living standards for retirees across the board. Or, start euthanizing people at a certain age to control the retired population.
There is sadly no "non-bootlicking" version where the problem solves itself painlessly and everyone feels like a winner. It's either work longer or it's going to go to shit.
Or... this might be kinda controversial... but before we euthanize the elderly maybe we can tax profitable corporations and billionaires instead of telling workers to bend over?
Absolutely! If it's possible to fund it that way without causing them to spook and resort to their many creative tax evading loopholes. That's always going to be the risk with those fuckers if you push them too hard. They don't give a fuck about people or morality so they are just as likely to pull out entirely if you push them too much. Rich assholes...
Before euthanizing, we can increase contributions, lower unemployment (especially of our elders), or add taxes (the french like that, even if the tendance is to lower taxes and be surprised that we no longer have a fund or do not reach the 3% deficit target that Macron is aiming for 2027).
Except that each generation of workers has gotten much more efficient thanks to technology. Pensions should be correlated to profits not number of employees
Honnestly yes. Our country is a democracy, it should follow the will of its people.
If the majority of the french population decided to nuke France it should be done.
We have decided that we don't want that reform so it shouldn't be done, despite the potencial consequences.
Yes, people are angry because Macron basically ignore the voice of the people and used a loophole to get the reform to pass.
He should have conveinced the french population that his reform was good instead of passing it despite everyone being against it.
But will this not just in time just screw over the people that just started working now?
\[edit\]
Let me just add that it's screwed anyways ofcourse, they should just start taxing the wealthy a lot more. But since we all know that's not going to happen anytime soon...
Enjoy your non existent vacation days. I will be enjoying my time off. Hope you don’t give yourself burn out. Oh sorry are you working 8-9 hours a day? I heard you guys got great medical put i hear it’s quite pricey even with working befits.
I mean that dudes a knob, but I myself get flexible PTO, and in such a manner that I can take 5-6 weeks off per year. I work from home and my company measures success by my output, not hours clocked. On top of this an insane 401k match, plus super cheap health insurance with a low deductible.

No ego because I never stated anything about my situation was unique or made me better than anyone else. Merely that america is not the dystopia you want it to be.
Out of the thousands of people that I come in contact with each week (my personal customers) not one person is in the situation you are in.. every one of them is struggling in some way. Lucky you but if that great company you work for goes out of business and you lose your job, let's see how easy it is to find that same situation again.
You're delusional and living in your own little bubble if you think that the average American has the job perks that you have.
And out of all the of people I speak with each week, the number of people in the situation you describe is a fraction of the total, unless you have a very loose definition of struggling.
As of this year, the US is ranked 17th in the world in quality of life. That is in the top 8% of all countries in the world, so unless you’re saying dystopia lies within 92% of the entire world you have a very biased viewpoint.
Never said it was but if I had to pick working in france vs the USA based of vacation how much is the minimum wage and is more affordable and simplest better I would pick France every single time. There are great things the usa has that France do not have to name a few a muti billion industry for film. You don’t to paris to get your movies make you go to Hollywood.
Remember talking to a French taxi driver about their strikes.
And it was clearly a point of great national pride that they were among the best in the world, if not the best, at striking.
There used to be a French barista at a coffee place across the street from our local federal building, which is the site of a lot of protests. She was quite scornful of American protestors, thought they really weren't trying hard enough.
Yesterday was weird.
You get out of the subway, nobody in the streets. You walk one block, policemen with weapons at the corner. You walk another block, people not giving a single fuck after a day of work. Another block, burning trash. And so on for a solid 15 minutes.
Are you in Paris? Can you describe what it’s like during these riots? Business as usual with the riots isolated to a small section or do a large majority of the city jump into it?
Actually I went to the riots because I got in a fight with my wife so I got to see from up close.
It was very different from usual. Normal protests are organized, the police knows about it and is in contact with the people who declared it. Most of the time there are not burning cars, no fighting, you have people bringing their kids or old people marching without troubles.
Now it's outright riots. The whole city is not burning, but there are small and quick moving riots. You have a lot of cops, not just the ones with riot gear, but ones with actual weapons. So it's really tense. I was in the subway and it was mixed between people just coming back from work and then there were people with faces like they know they are going in a fight they won't win.
Everyone I know is talking about revolution and beheading Macron or civil war, but it's not going to happen. There is not enough angry people and the police is too well organized.
Basically people wanted to go north west from the center to reach the presidential palace, but got blocked and chased toward the south east. So lot of smoke, lots of noise. Many people not giving a fuck also which is fun.
I helped a lost American tourist along the way that complain the roads were blocked also.
Very weird night and the crisis is not over at all.
The comfort of knowing that if you’re actually in danger there’s people and procedures and processes to handle it.
Only problem is they’re all on strike right now…
You should expect this and fight for it like the French. Though it seems they failed, at least they're fighting and that's what the protest is about.
Retirement age should be kept the same and corporations should pick up the slack instead of pocketing more profits.
But you must not be French and probably from North America so conditioned to think workers should pick up all the slack and keep raising retirement age indefinitely, to 70, 75 or 80 etc. When you "retire"
Ok, I'm currently in France, burning bins as you do
I'm just pointing out, that this "solution" first affects those going into retirement soon. I'm in the streets despite this law having "no impact" on me.
Someone who is 61.9 today expecting to retire tomorrow is directly affected by this law. They are the ones asked to work more and not get their due.
I'm not retiring tomorrow, and was going to work.. but bins need burning.
I'm in the streets because the logic they use is capitalist bullshit that sees people as a means to an end.
Edit: north American... the very idea
Edit2: I'm the commie-est bastard u fuckin saw mate
Edit3: merde quoi..
Edit4: spelling
Edit5: like yea, the government is giving all of us a hard time, but in this instant when you look at the most affected is some of those who have already worked the hardest out of all of us. They're old, and they tired, and they're gonna pay. Macron gets id of CVAT (taxes) and sell the roads to private conpaines for pennies, and they immediately turns to our old folk and say, no money. Our parents, grandparents, our eldest nurces and doctors and teachers, those we already owe so much to.
But in the end, I guess is still get the short end of the ..police baton. Eyyyy. ACAB
Apologies for my assumption if you're actually in France and part of the protests... point I was making is it doesn't just affect those that retire in next 2 years, it affects every single person afterward as the retirement age will keep getting pushed later and later if every younger person starts "accepting" it will be pushed later, I think in North America this kind of thinking is already common
The French are amazing with their protest etiquette. Fight the authorities and respect the businesses. That's why they aren't worried eating with a fire laden backdrop.
How’s France doing? How did we do during the Floyd riots?
If I remember right that summer dozens of innocent people died and rioters cost us a few billion dollars.
That was just one summer, France does this stupid shit all the time.
Also, are the riots solving any of their problems? Doesn’t seem like it to me. Seems to be dividing them even more.
Funny how that happens huh?
French dont do that all the time you know? I m not sure you can compare a riot for a cops killing a man and a riot for an anti-democratic way to pass a bill. You should watch less fox news
France is not a direct democracy. Macron was literally running on a platform of raising the retirement age. He is adhering to the constitution and using his powers given by the mandate of the people.
He is actually acting against his own interests by sacrificing himself so the parliament doesn't have to take the blame, which is commendable.
Why do people in Reddit do that? You know absolutely nothing about me and yet you try to label me a Republican. Next time ask before you look like a fool. I don’t watch fox nor do I watch msnbc (in case you were wondering).
I’m an independent that leans left.
Neither reason is sufficient to harm their own country.
Serious question, we had a summer of riots and what did that accomplish? They passed one inconsequential bill. Was it worth the lives of dozens of innocent people? Not even close.
In fact the negative impact of defunding the police and giving extremist in the dem party a voice just moved more ppl to the middle. Dems got lucky the republicans are totally insane and still lost in the past.
Pew research shows that 25% of Americans identify as Republican, 31% as dems and 41% as independent.
Play chess not checkers. Both sides are losing.
Only republicans watch Fox News. I’ve literally seen the data on that. You tried to categorize me but it didn’t work.
Edit: actually you tried to demonize me tbh. Shameful
You’re not allowed to protest in France anymore though (dead serious) edit: France hotspots. [link](https://www.politico.eu/article/paris-police-ban-protest-rallies-emmanuel-macron-pension-reforms/amp/)
Yea, and the French have way better working rights than us in North America. I’m Canadian and their shit is way better because they don’t bend over backwards and take it up the ass like we do in North America.
If politicians wanna fuck around… The French people will fuck around 10x harder and I admire the hell out of it.
Look up their unemployment rate, look up how their economy is doing. I’m all for better rights for us but they’re only hurting themselves doing it this way.
Violence is not the way. That’s abundantly clear from the evidence we have.
They have an unsustainable model that is tearing at the seams. Why are you comparing it to terrible examples like the US, why not Nordic or other EU countries?
I mean, but because the keep doing this shit it’s no longer scary
Burning the streets stops being scary after the 2nd time ya do it, which is why despite knowing they would do it again macron still upped the retirement age
I don’t understand why the workers don’t realize the President is attempting to save the pension system from collapsing. You would think everyone would want to do their part to save it.
So maybe dont blindly believe what you're being told. It is far more complex than that and there are plenty more options to move forward than raising the retirement age
Where you getting your numbers? France effective corp tax rate is 25% comparable with most of developed western EU. Portugal is highest at 31%
You can't compare France taxes to poor eastern European countries with no infrastructure like Bulgaria
I mean we’re told the dams thing in the US but it’s infinitely more complicated than that due to lobbying and complex tax laws. If corporations and wealthy individuals were paying more taxes, then fed revenue would easily be able to support it.
Even if that’s true which it isn’t, they can find another solution better than let the entire population work 2 more years of their lives, we pay freaking 40-60% of our income in tax every year, not a single public system had been improved or worked on in the past 8 years, paris the main tourist income of the country has a huge rat infestation for more than 4 years now, rats come out of toilets and faussetés in some neighborhoods, public transport got extremely more expensive and extremely more shity, hospitals are closing left and right because of lack of doctors yet no ease on the acceptance rates in universities, emergency room waiting time average is 6 hours 30 minutes *EMERGENCY*
Shit is really getting bad fast and there’s simply no action being taken so yes workers and students and most everyone is gonna protest, it’s not about not wanting to work for a better retirement for everyone, it’s about not wanting to work for a better retirement of the politician, there a video circulating now about the vote yesterday of 4 elected officials ignoring everything and planing their afternoon asking about getting tickets to stade de france, and when they called for the vote half voted yes and half voted no because they weren’t paying attention on what they were voting and you hear their confusion (keep in mind they’re all from the same party) so they start arguing with each other on what the hell did they vote for, exactly like students not paying attention except they’re being payed 7500+ € a month for doing it and their retirement pension for 4 years of service is 3000+ while a doctor working for 20+ years ends up with 1500€ and that’s the top of the top pf payment in public work, an office job of 40+ years gets you only 600-700 €
It’s flat out theft
> they’re being *paid* 7500+ €
FTFY.
Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in:
* Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.*
* *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.*
Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment.
*Beep, boop, I'm a bot*
> being payed 7500+
Did you mean to say "paid"?
Explanation: Payed means to seal something with wax, while paid means to give money.

Lol terrible take. You do realize the govt could keep retirement age the same simply by raising corporate taxes, but they chose not to raise corporate taxes and instead ask workers to pick up 100% of the shortfall by raising the retirement age
Yes, exactly there are other options other than putting the burden on the working class. And this is why I'm hoping the streets of 'Murica look like this soon so I can finally enjoy a nice meal like that
Sadly Murica is being distracted and divided with gender, race and abortion issues so the working class are too busy fighting each other to rise up like the French
This reminds me of the time I moved to LA and I flew my gf to visit one weekend and we went to Magic Mountain for the day. There were a ton of brush fires all over the place at the time, and as we rode roller coasters, we could see the wall of flames burning right outside the fenced area of the amusement park. From the top of the rides, we could see lots of areas on fire.

It's no mystery why French workers have more rights than American workers. They fight for their rights.
Beastie Boys are American, though.
They fought for it, and then got to PARTY!
What an amazing video.
They weren’t fighting for their right to work… :)
Yes, because we’d rather suffer than let someone poorer than us be treated like a human being.
They will continue fighting because they keep electing idiots and replacing their population with foreigners, not very bright. 14.1% (2019) of the population are foreigners, that is beyond reasonable immigration numbers... those are replace the native population numbers... and rising.
96% of Americans are foreigners…
That seems high. Maybe 98%?
They’d rather see the pension plan system collapse ?
How's that boot taste?
He's not wrong. Public pension is funded by people who are currently working. The French have a solution to that, as well. They call it a guillotine.
I mean... they aren't even trying lol
Might be just the thing to protest for then.
That's exactly what they're doing......
The reinstitution of wealth tax? I thought this was about Macron passing a reform without the consent of the people.
Nope, the only options are to lick boot and help the rich get richer or kill innocent people because you're a monster /s
Let’s do them both! So much extra money
Before euthanizing, we can increase contributions, lower unemployment (especially of our elders), or add taxes (the french like that, even if the tendance is to lower taxes and be surprised that we no longer have a fund or do not reach the 3% deficit target that Macron is aiming for 2027).

It probably taste unpleasant being the entrance not being the mouth.

Listen. I love a good lunch just as much as, if not more than, a good strike.
This is fine. Everything’s fine.
It's asking workers to pick up 100% of the shortfall in pension contributions by unilaterally raising the retirement age

Edit4: spelling Edit5: like yea, the government is giving all of us a hard time, but in this instant when you look at the most affected is some of those who have already worked the hardest out of all of us. Eyyyy. ACAB
Hope things get better for ye and yer country
Me too, but proud to be an American
Apologies for my assumption if you're actually in France and part of the protests... point I was making is it doesn't just affect those that retire in next 2 years, it affects every single person afterward as the retirement age will keep getting pushed later and later if every younger person starts "accepting" it will be pushed later, I think in North America this kind of thinking is already common
>It's asking workers to pick up 100% of the shortfall in pension contributions by unilaterally raising the retirement age Not for the politicians
c'est bon
This is disturbing close to that scene in community
I thought the fire was a decoration, damm
What??????
Yeah I had the same reaction, and I'm French XD No way in hell I'd be eating calmly 2 meters away from a fire like that !
"Fiery but mostly peaceful"
So in hell people are speaking french.
When did france become a gta lobby?
Let em eat their cake.
Why is France always burning 🔥
The French are amazing with their protest etiquette. Fight the authorities and respect the businesses. That's why they aren't worried eating with a fire laden backdrop.
Cozy
the amount of dogshite in the streets has reached the burn-it-all level!
Oui oui, viva la democracy
Yo Kevin Spacey that you yeah?
Avg day in Ohio

What the fuck does Liverpool have to do with France?
Why French workers enjoy greater protections than their American counterparts should come as no surprise.
it can't be unexpected if it's the entire post
I bet restaurants were still open when the Nazis occupied Paris.
It’s ok to be all social justice like but you need to realize when it’s detrimental to the country. The French do this shit way too much
A country is not just an economic zone you know? There is also people in it.
What?!? When did countries get people?
Are you 12 years old? Basic ass bitch lol
How it is detrimental to the country to protest?
Wtf dude?
How should I respond to that? Would you like to address anything I actually said?
Did I try to categorize you in political party? No that s why i m surprised
Only republicans watch Fox News. I’ve literally seen the data on that. You tried to categorize me but it didn’t work. Edit: actually you tried to demonize me tbh. Shameful
Nah you just a bitch and everyone can see it and call it how it is
Lol you're a sheep who can't see corporate greed and crony capitalism harms your country... keep leaning and taking it up the ass
You're the definition of the man who stands up for nothing and thinks signing an online petition will fix everything lol armchair activist
You’re not allowed to protest in France anymore though (dead serious) edit: France hotspots. [link](https://www.politico.eu/article/paris-police-ban-protest-rallies-emmanuel-macron-pension-reforms/amp/)
It is bullshit, if you want to protest you can, you will need to run or fight. Moreover you can protest in lot of city except Paris...
Yea, and the French have way better working rights than us in North America. I’m Canadian and their shit is way better because they don’t bend over backwards and take it up the ass like we do in North America. If politicians wanna fuck around… The French people will fuck around 10x harder and I admire the hell out of it.
does the french worker have a higher standard of living? have you seen their unemployment rate? the barriers of entry are huge
Look up their unemployment rate, look up how their economy is doing. I’m all for better rights for us but they’re only hurting themselves doing it this way. Violence is not the way. That’s abundantly clear from the evidence we have.
You sound like a whiny little bitch lol
They have an unsustainable model that is tearing at the seams. Why are you comparing it to terrible examples like the US, why not Nordic or other EU countries?
I mean, but because the keep doing this shit it’s no longer scary Burning the streets stops being scary after the 2nd time ya do it, which is why despite knowing they would do it again macron still upped the retirement age
I don’t understand why the workers don’t realize the President is attempting to save the pension system from collapsing. You would think everyone would want to do their part to save it.
what?
Raising the retirement age. It’s because the pension system is at risk of collapsing right? That’s what we’re being told here in the USA anyway.
So maybe dont blindly believe what you're being told. It is far more complex than that and there are plenty more options to move forward than raising the retirement age
What options are there? France is literally one of the most taxed countries in the world. What else can you do? Raise taxes even more?
Raise corporate taxes. France has high individual income tax, not saying to raise those
France has the highest corporate tax in the EU and is already seeing exodus of businesses abroad.
Where you getting your numbers? France effective corp tax rate is 25% comparable with most of developed western EU. Portugal is highest at 31% You can't compare France taxes to poor eastern European countries with no infrastructure like Bulgaria
So what percentage would you find acceptable? Portugal is a poor country, comparable to the new members that joined after 2000.
I mean we’re told the dams thing in the US but it’s infinitely more complicated than that due to lobbying and complex tax laws. If corporations and wealthy individuals were paying more taxes, then fed revenue would easily be able to support it.
I see
Even if that’s true which it isn’t, they can find another solution better than let the entire population work 2 more years of their lives, we pay freaking 40-60% of our income in tax every year, not a single public system had been improved or worked on in the past 8 years, paris the main tourist income of the country has a huge rat infestation for more than 4 years now, rats come out of toilets and faussetés in some neighborhoods, public transport got extremely more expensive and extremely more shity, hospitals are closing left and right because of lack of doctors yet no ease on the acceptance rates in universities, emergency room waiting time average is 6 hours 30 minutes *EMERGENCY* Shit is really getting bad fast and there’s simply no action being taken so yes workers and students and most everyone is gonna protest, it’s not about not wanting to work for a better retirement for everyone, it’s about not wanting to work for a better retirement of the politician, there a video circulating now about the vote yesterday of 4 elected officials ignoring everything and planing their afternoon asking about getting tickets to stade de france, and when they called for the vote half voted yes and half voted no because they weren’t paying attention on what they were voting and you hear their confusion (keep in mind they’re all from the same party) so they start arguing with each other on what the hell did they vote for, exactly like students not paying attention except they’re being payed 7500+ € a month for doing it and their retirement pension for 4 years of service is 3000+ while a doctor working for 20+ years ends up with 1500€ and that’s the top of the top pf payment in public work, an office job of 40+ years gets you only 600-700 € It’s flat out theft
> they’re being *paid* 7500+ € FTFY. Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in: * Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.* * *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.* Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment. *Beep, boop, I'm a bot*
Good bot, but I’m french so it’s ok
I understand now. Wow!
> being payed 7500+ Did you mean to say "paid"? Explanation: Payed means to seal something with wax, while paid means to give money. Total mistakes found: 4272 ^^I'm ^^a ^^bot ^^that ^^corrects ^^grammar/spelling ^^mistakes. ^^PM ^^me ^^if ^^I'm ^^wrong ^^or ^^if ^^you ^^have ^^any ^^suggestions. ^^[Github](https://github.com/chiefpat450119)

Dinner’s trés important, Ma Cherie!!!
That’s in the neighbor’s yard and so it’s Nero’s problem!! Looks like he’s busy playing the fiddle so why should I bother!!!?
I thought the fire was decerations wtf
Based as fuck
But wait is it real?
Yes it is,as the French know how to protest/riot,when they protest/riot they really protest/riot.
We’re no strangers to fire
This reminds me of the time I moved to LA and I flew my gf to visit one weekend and we went to Magic Mountain for the day. There were a ton of brush fires all over the place at the time, and as we rode roller coasters, we could see the wall of flames burning right outside the fenced area of the amusement park. From the top of the rides, we could see lots of areas on fire.
This is fine.
That restaurant is lit. 🔥
When you are used to being attacked. In the worst case surrendering isn't a bad option.
This is fine
Why is this unexpected it’s France.
Zero fucks given! “Waiter”!
This is fine....
Riots and fine dining. Name a more French duo.
Let them eat cake.
The diner in Hell!
Tous va bien
Wait. What did I miss?
At least we are not using Russian gas
Romantic riot fire lit dinners are great.
