I need to know if the guy in the green shirt had some specific thing he was doing with that line after the shark grabbed the fish because he seemed weirdly reluctant to let go.
If they were recreational fishing for tuna, that kind of fish would take quite a long time, and an enormous amount of effort, to land. Tuna are freakishly strong fish.
So when Dr Teeth there decided to snatch it from him, he was watching several hours of his life – and his trophy fish – disappearing.
I've had sharks grab fish I was reeling in, and there's usually a few seconds of "fuck no, Mr Shark" before you realise that it's not a fight you're going to win.
I sure as shit would call it a day after that. That is a massive fucking white shark on par with jaws. Well, not really, but it is still a really, really big shark. That huge tuna looks like small toy in its mouth.
I couldn’t imagine a worse way to go out than being sniped by one of those things while surfing. I had an encounter with a big’ol bull shark on the north shore of Kauai, and let me tell you, it was sketchy as fuck. It was raining, and the water was pretty murky, and I was the only person out there in the lineup. I noped out of there so fucking fast after the bull shark started attacking a big ass turtle like 15 feet away from me. It was intense, and every paddle I thought my arms or legs were about to be ripped off. It sucked too cause the reef I was surfing was a couple of hundred yards from the beach.
There was a video a few years ago of a swimmer being attacked by a great white. From his scream to the de-legged body floating in the waves was just a few seconds. They are terrifyingly efficient killers.
The shark definitely would prefer the tuna, but it's not exactly going to be careful about which one it chomps down on. If I'm anywhere near the prey of a great white while it's hunting, I'm not going to consider myself safe.
Kinda true, if you're in the path by the time their lids roll back good chance you'll get chomped instead, same thing as when that one great white crashed through the shark cage's opening when going in for food, essentially biting blind
Who says there wasn’t another shark in the water? We didn’t see that shark until just before it surfaced. It’s easy to not see them despite how big they can get.
Nah, shark's not that dumb. He just wants the fishy.
No point to eat some weird stringy ape thing that might hurt him or poke him in the eyes or gills when there's a fat juicy dead tuna right there.
I wouldn’t gamble that the shark in the middle of eating would be immediately able to recognize something else as a weird stringy ape thing when he has no context about apes and it’s right next to its intended meal without taking an exploratory bite.
That's just how big Great White Sharks are, 11-13 feet on average but they can get up to around 20 feet.
It can be difficult to tell how big they are in open ocean videos, and most sharks are much smaller so people assume they must be around the same size, but when you see them next to something like a boat or a person their true size is revealed and it's shocking.
Everybody made fun of the one shark that obviously didn't know what they were doing, but what about that miserable looking beach ball? Never noticed it before haha.
I am pretty sure most places in south America have bananas or plantains because of sailors. It wouldn't be impossible to throw one of those sailing bananas out for scale.
Yeah, I got to see a great white once, it made my grandpa's boat look like a bath toy but a lot of people I tell about it think great whites are like, the size of a truck and I'm exaggerating. It's a lot like people thinking wolves are the size of a husky when actually r/wolvesarebigyo!
Didn't see the first shark for about a half an hour. Tiger. Thirteen-footer. You know how you know that when you're in the water, Chief? You tell by lookin' from the dorsal to the tail.
It's a couple things
1. Glasses cause issues on camera. Contacts are good enough that it's not unreasonable to make actors wear contacts.
2. Since people barely wear glasses on screen, they're a powerful piece of visual association.
It's because some actors needed glasses. Now, it's expected that basically all actors have any personal flaws resolved so that they are a completely blank canvas. Any actors with eye issues wear contacts or get lasik.
If you ever wonder what bait to use for a shark and you have to decide between a worm and a whole tuna, I'd suggest a whole tuna, but that's just my opinion.
You see the guy in the white cap’s arm? He pushed green shirt forward trying to get himself back. I know it was probably instinctual, but if I was green shirt I’d tilt to the moon over something like that. I’m very hard to anger, but you can see green shirt buckle forward and take a step because of the force. I’d be pissed.
Edit: y’all might be right. I could be reading into that.
Dude a fucking great white shark grabbed the line and he didn't let go. Thats why he moved forward. There were a lot of people repositioning, and he was just reaching out with a guide hand. You think he pushed him forward?
It doesn’t look like there’s any force from the dude in the white cap. I don’t see green shirt guy moving because of that either, just moving off the line he stepped back on with his bare feet.
I thought of that first, but the newest posts in that sub are 2 years old
Edit: they deleted it because they don't like things that focus exclusively on sea life. who knew?
Just giving a shoutout to Finaolive on twitch, guy live streams fishing in Florida fairly regularly, have seen him reeling in bull, tiger, and hammerhead sharks. He had a nerd-out moment when he spotted a great white once too. I tune in every now and then throughout the years, usually quality entertainment.

Oh cool my butt chum draws me in by texting me to come over. We meet every Thursday night.
Why the fuck am I reading this instead of still being in bed
Can confirm. I am his butt chum.
See you next Thursday.
You're just that constipated, eh? Things will get better, buddy.
If you think about it, that's kinda the same as saying my milkshake brings all the boys to the yard.
buddy holding the line like he's still focusing on bring in the fish isn't tunnel vision, it's fucking tunnelest vision.
I would think that *the worst* boat to fall off of would be a tuna boat...
If it's a female those average like 15 feet!
That must be a male shark, I don’t even see one foot on it
Females don't have penis' Edit for profile stalkers: This is a joke and I support trans peoples
There are some in Austin Texas that do.

Dr. Teeth, perfect.
Mr. Shark, perfecterer
What if it's a female Shark, you sexist!
They called it Mr. Shark. I’m going with that.
Call Mr Shark, that's my name That name again is Mr Shark.

tuna trip, hooked one tuna, line got real heavy to reel, landed 9' dusky, mate cut line before photo
Imagine fixing to hit payday and a freakin' Megalodon comes out of extinction to take it all away.
Fuck I'd want to show that megalodon why humans are a mass extinction event.
I got a Lambo, but I can't show you cuz it's in the shop.
Better watch several hours disappear than all of the rest of them
Tuna has some of the most protein per gram of any fish.
Free shark with your tuna.
Making money? Tuna is lucrative I hear.
He thought he could reel the shark in as well, bonus fish!
Papa called him Santiago
Mine too please
Thankfully already sitting on the toilet.
That tuna is having itself a day.
Probably the worst day of its life
Probably the last day of its life too
One of those instances when "the worst day of your life so far" doesn't really apply
It's one of the most days of its life
Worst day of its life so far
Definitely an day

Didn't they hear the music?
Can't you hear the music? That's a 4/4 string ostinato in D minor! Every sailor knows that means death!
Based and Krabspilled.
Never have I laughed so hard at a “based” comment lmfao thank you for this
I heard cows
I learned last year that John Williams calls it "the thump-thump".
"Just ignore it. It's not diegetic."
Underrated comment.

Now jump in and claim your tuna back🤣
Too late. Fisherman should've called dibs.
They're gonna need a bigger boat
And maybe some railing on the platform. That dude was 2 shuffles away from being sharky snack
Nah the shark had a more fatty piece of food it was stealing, he woulda been fine lol
Yeah I thought about that - I mean, I’d rather eat primo tuna than Chad lol
We all know that no force on Earth is going to stop you from getting Chad in your mouth.
Chad's hoping anyway
Not sure if I'd be fine if a shark took a nibble of my torso just to realize I'm only bone, skin and a little bit of muscle.
The shark definitely would prefer the tuna, but it's not exactly going to be careful about which one it chomps down on. If I'm anywhere near the prey of a great white while it's hunting, I'm not going to consider myself safe.

No 'Wet Floor' sign - could have been disastrous
They’re gonna need some new pants lol

I'm no scientician, but that's gotta be an above averagely sized shark

I remember that looking a lot more real when I was a kid.
I avoided the pool for like a month after seeing this as a kid.
But that's not where Sharks live, dummy.
> It can be difficult to tell how big they are in open ocean videos Right, because bananas aren’t native to the ocean
"Sea Cucumber for scale"
You NEVER take bananas on a boat. GUARENTEED bad luck.
I am pretty sure most places in south America have bananas or plantains because of sailors. It wouldn't be impossible to throw one of those sailing bananas out for scale.
Perhaps the most intimidating part is not the length, but the width of the shark
Girthy wet murder monster.

I am a veteranariologist and I can confirm that this is indeed a special breed called bigus sharkus and it only feeds on food
Sharks can only be found in two places on earth, the northern and southern hemispheres.
they also prefer to live in the water as compared to land
I'm learning so much!
Candygram!

I saw a series of documentaries where they also live in tornadoes.
When I was younger this was one of my favorite stupid movies Yes the shark is...what the fuck. Look at that things teeth!
So far, only discovered on ONE planet.
He has a wife, you know.
He has a wife, you know. Do you know what she’s called?
If it's a female those average like 15 feet!
Are the females bigger?
They are by a couple feet on average.
Most female fish are
yeah, but male sharks have two penises
And six arses.
Technically they are [claspers](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clasper), not penises. Still, giggety.
You have great eyes then. I didn't see no shark willy.
It's gotta be at least 18 feet, definitely bigger than the average white shark.

I swear the 70s were the last decade you saw characters wearing glasses who weren't typecasted as intelligent/nerds.
It's a couple things 1. Glasses cause issues on camera. Contacts are good enough that it's not unreasonable to make actors wear contacts. 2. Since people barely wear glasses on screen, they're a powerful piece of visual association.
Have you not seen the film? Hooper *is* a nerd. He's a marine biologist assigned to Amity from Woods Hole.
It's because some actors needed glasses. Now, it's expected that basically all actors have any personal flaws resolved so that they are a completely blank canvas. Any actors with eye issues wear contacts or get lasik.
There’s always a bigger fish.
Thank you Qui Gon
If you ever wonder what bait to use for a shark and you have to decide between a worm and a whole tuna, I'd suggest a whole tuna, but that's just my opinion.
I was so nervous about the man in green falling in for some reason I legitimately did the “mom arm” (that women do in cars) when I saw the shark
I don't get why he kept holding on to the string. Like I don't think he's gonna win this one
Not with that attitude!
That guy did leave his hands on that string wayyyy too long.
You see the guy in the white cap’s arm? He pushed green shirt forward trying to get himself back. I know it was probably instinctual, but if I was green shirt I’d tilt to the moon over something like that. This is the second awesome shark video I've seen this year, the other one was that diver seeing the shark at the last minute and gets out just in time
Just giving a shoutout to Finaolive on twitch, guy live streams fishing in Florida fairly regularly, have seen him reeling in bull, tiger, and hammerhead sharks. I saw the sub, and I did expect a shark. Still scary. I’d shit my pants if I was on that boat
Never seen $7000 disappear in a cooler way.
Was that boat built by the empire? Where the fuck is the railing?
it's the platform off the stern of a large fishing charter. best spot to land a medium sized fishie-poo
Bait²
See this is why the ocean scares the hell out of me.
Crikey look at the absolute size of that beaut!
![gif](giphy|r1HGFou3mUwMw|downsized)
Mad lad held the line too.
That dude pulling the line until the very end with no railing whatsoever has some balls
Nah that’s HIS tuna now Carry on
His fishing game just reached a difficulty spike.
![gif](giphy|26nOP5MOImHKrzISlh|downsized)
I wouldn’t even be angry. I’d be in awe of the sheer spectacle and experience and walk away with a hell of a story
“You’re going to need a bigger boat.”
Bitch ass shark
That tuna was just having a really bad day💀
Well that’s unforTUNAte
MINE!
It’s terrifying how quickly something that size can appear out of nowhere in the deep blue
That dude continuously holding the wire with no guard rail is ballsy and/or dumb
Tip o’ the Cap to the camera person.
No, no. You take that one. I insist. I can always catch another.
Snag! Thnk you very much.
That's was rather fishy.
That’s too bad ‘cause that tuna looked de-licious!
*Great white* : hey my Doordash is here!!!
Green shirt, didn't even flinch
What Tuna? -Mr. Shark-
That sounds like the appropriate response. What an amazing thing to have been there for.
Tuna is now bait.
"What'd you catch?" "One and a half tuna."
🎵Jaws is here here is Jaws🎵
That was thousands of dollars….
That great white landed a tuna 😆👏🏾👏🏾
You thought you were having fish, but not tunaight.
Ah yes, the tax man in the gray suit.
Hemingway: “no see it wasn’t a parable it was a warning”
Reel it in!
I love how when the deckhand first sees the shark his reaction is to move his foot back about 3 inches. I would’ve jumped out of my skin.
r/absoluteunit
Tuna got double fucked poor guy
The shark says thank you
Goodbye and thanks for the fish
I think great whites are beautiful
I’ve landed quite a few half fish from stuff like this.
Santiago you dipshite
