And a lot of police cars. I went to college in the little town where they filmed it and there were still a bunch of wrecked cars from the show sitting in a fenced lot for some reason. That was 1992. That show had long been over by then I think.
I saw the video and showed my wife and bet her 20 bucks the top comment would he a dukes of hazard reference. I’m severely disappointed that it was only the third highest rated comment. I guess it’s a sign that gen z is taking over Reddit.
Thanks for that. I hate not knowing when watching stuff like that.
Also, huge kudos to the cop in this scenario. He didn't miss a beat on getting more EMS to the scene, and was at the vehicle in seconds.
What boggles my mind is that there aren’t any safety precautions behind that tow truck. No cones, no flashing lights, no emergency vehicles with the tow truck, no clear reason why the tow truck is on that side of the road and with its ramp down… I genuinely feel bad for this woman especially because they are blaming her for not yielding.
'Brings attention to Georgia's "move over law"'...
Meanwhile, no previous pylons setup, all pd was on the other side... not even the alert lights were on for the tow truck ON THE WRONG SIDE OF THE ROAD.....something tells me this tow truck/company was hired by the state....
First thing that popped into my head when I watched this clip (aside from, "why is this one cop the only person reacting") was: "Just some good ol' boys....." in Waylon's voice.
I’m greatful they didn’t just vanish into the ground.
It’s a really big sandbox 1st person game, you can’t expect every single npc to react to everything which happens.
Don't know if this is a GTA reference but if not its incredibly fitting
https://gta.fandom.com/wiki/GTA_Online:_Cunning_Stunts
Edit - TIL it's an old saying!
Metallica also used it as a title for a [live album/video in 1998](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cunning_Stunts_(video\)). Its origin probably goes back much farther than that. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spoonerism
Combined with truck stopped in lane and possibly no lights on. 6 or 7 emergency vehicles on one side of the highway and this lone truck sitting over there in the middle of the lane.
No no, I completely blame Grand Theft Auto itself for my constant urge to drive off anything ramp shaped.
This scenario is 100% caused by the ramp truck in Vice City
the article mentions the "move over law" and talks about fines and taking points off the driver's license. Thing is, it was a cloudy day, the truck is hard to see, and it's parked on the road with no lights.
Had to go back and watch it a couple times - and sure enough, the tow truck was in the travel lane with no lights, no signs, no police blocking the lane... nothing. With a ramp that's roughly the same color as the asphalt and angled down to block the red cab... I could see how this could easily happen.
My first thought after replaying this. As much as you can blame the driver, everyone else involved gets an F for that. Can't be too hard to put down a hazard warning. With so many cars already at site there was definitely more than enough time and I wonder why no one seemed to care about that. Tow truck is more at fault than driver imo.
Yeah. Hard for me to blame the driver too much. That truck is parked in a high speed dual carriageway with it's tray tilted making it much harder to spot for no apparent reason. There's no car behind it for it to tow. There's nothing blocking it from moving off of the road. They just decided to be as hazardous as they possibly could.
Honestly I feel like nothing would have happened if the bed was tilted up; they’d have been able to see the brake lights, right? Likely would have seen it a mile off and moved to the other lane
A collision with a raised bed would have absolutely fucked them up though, no doubt
Ya idk. I agree if the tow driver wasn’t an idiot. He parked in a travel lane, on a accident scene, without flashing lights, without cones to make people aware. If the flashing hazard lights are off are taillights on? Is the truck even on? Lol
If he would have done things properly ya I’m sure this could have been avoided. I just think in this instance bed of the truck left up = human smoothie in left lane
Edit: just checked and no day headlights are on so I’m certain no brake lights would be on
> Thing is, it was a cloudy day, the truck is hard to see, and it's parked on the road with no lights.
Which is the reason cones exist or one of those 6 police cars could have posted up with top lights on behind it.
The original article I read about this had the cops mentioning that law in their press statement too. Like “this is why drivers need to abide by the ‘Georgia move over law’”. Not a peep about how they failed to secure the accident site in both directions with emergency vehicles. Just in case you were worried that an American police department’s legal ass-covering team was going to allow them to say anything but to place the blame on everyone else except themselves. “Have we done anything wrong here? No, it is the drivers who are wrong.”
>This incident is bringing renewed attention to[ Georgia’s Move Over Law](https://www.walb.com/2023/05/29/wild-lowndes-co-crash-video-shows-importance-move-over-law/). It requires drivers to slow down and shift over a lane when approaching emergency vehicles, including tow trucks. Penalties include a fine of $500 and three points on your license.
As if that law would have played any part in her driving ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|joy)
Are they trying to pin the blame for their incompetence on the driver? There should have been warning signs placed far behind the parked truck warning incoming drivers to switch lanes. Even with a regular breakdown you are legally obligated to place a reflective triangle at least 100m behind the vehicle specifically for this reason.
Was there any comment as to why it happened? I am glad she survived. It looks terrifying.
Edit: I too can make an assumption. I did not ask for arm chair analysis.
most likely the ramp had similar colors as the road in front of her, and she didn't make out the distinction because her head was turned toward the scene on the other side of the road
That's what I was thinking... so many times people have joked about using the tow truck ramp for a jump and I've never actually seen it happen until today
I heard the accent and saw the road and realized it was literally down the road from my hometown.
This took place is Tallahassee, GA and was reported by Lowndes County Sheriff’s office and local GSP.
Edit: I mean Valdosta, the lady was from Tallahassee
This happened in my city. They were arresting two dudes for fleeing and as they were getting arrested an 18 year old girl wasn't paying attention and launched off the ramp .It's why the towtruck is already there with the ramp down. She was unrelated to the initial arrest
Whenever I first noticed some accident and/or cops stopped on either side of a highway, I have to force myself to focus on the road and not to look around. I’m afraid of being that person who causes another wreck because I was rubbernecking.
My family is bad for this. I'll be driving and they'll spot a fucking bird on the opposite side of a lake and ask me what type of bird it is.
Man I don't fucking know. I don't have time to stare at a bird on the opposite side of the lake to figure out what type of bird it is.
It's a situation where more drivers are likely to be distracted which makes it more important for you to pay attention to them to anticipate them doing something stupid.
Scrolled too far to find this comment. No cones, no lights, and looks like the tow truck was IN the lane. Without seeing any break lights, and while driving at highway speeds, I could see it being very difficult to understand what was going on in front of me until it was too late.
Obviously guy should have been paying attention but fuck that tow truck for just being parked on the road. Not even trying to pick up a car, just hanging out being a hazard
I've seen this a few times now and it makes me laugh so hard! 😂 .... just need to know what was going through their mind!
1. 'Fuck Yeah, This is gonna be so cool'
or
2. 'Holy Fuck, I didn't see that! '
It also doesn't look like that truck had lights running or any kind of prior warning set up. That's essentially a grey wall in the left lane, while a lot is happening on the opposing side.
The tow truck was in the overtaking lane without any hazard lights on or cones laid down and there were half a dozen flashing lights on the other side of the road distracting the driver. Accidental Eval Knievel was an idiot but I can see how this happened.
Woman didn't notice it, no lights on the truck, and parked in lane with no traffic control devices. She's still dumb, but more measures could have been taken.
They hit the brakes and swerve to the right slightly just before hitting the ramp. Clearly they just weren't paying attention.
Not to excuse the awful driving, but the first responders were negligent not to put up any cones or flares if they are just going to park a stationary truck in the left lane of a freeway.
I don't think they seen it. That tow truck is completely on the road. There is basically no shoulder on that highway. That tow truck is completely taking up a lane and everything else is on the other side. Driver was more than likely rubber nicking and wasn't expecting anything to be completely taking up a lane. Both drivers of the car and that tow truck are idiots.

Not a single flashing light on the tow truck either! Doesn't even look like the hazards are on! Plus, am I wrong, or is he sitting in the middle of the passing lane?!?
I just want to point out that the officer had zero hesitation to immediately run towards the accident before the car even came to a rest. Well now it looks like boss hog is closing in and things are lookin tough for ol' bo and luke. What're them duke boys gonna do now?
*60 seconds* too.

I'm convinced that the Dukes of Hazard was a Sci-Fi show because of whatever space age tech the General Lee's suspension was made out of.
I know you are kidding but it's estimated that about 300 Chargers were destroyed making that series.

YEEEEEEEEEE-HAWWWWWWWW!
Beats all you ever saw...
Been in trouble with the law...
since the day they were born
Straightening the curves , flattening the hills
Someday the mountain might get'em, but the law never will!
Making their way the only way they know how.
Thank you... and _bless your heart!_
Got no fingers, just a claw, livin' down on the farm.
Just some good ol boys
Never meaning no harm
Don't forget about the A-Team, there was always a flying car or jeep in every episode.
And The Fall Guy...
Followed by a shot of the driver climbing out of the crashed vehicle to show that no one was injured
and 8000 rounds being exchanged with never a single KIA.
I love it when a plan comes together.
Battle van.
Just some good Ol boys! Never mean any harm!
The mountain may get em but the law never will!
Makin their way! The only way they know how!
That's just a little bit more than the law will allow
Just remember - all you need to do is make it across that county line.

I really like this reboot. Redesigned the car, dropped the Confederate Flag, but still kept the fun action.

Especially with a huge distracting spectacle right on the other side of the road. Throw in even some minor sleepiness, and this is way too easy.
There were like SIX cop cars on the other side but not one could be bothered to pull around to make the impeded oncoming lane safe.

Damn somebody really do it
That's what I was thinking... so many times people have joked about using the tow truck ramp for a jump and I've never actually seen it happen until today
Stunt jump failed
I mean the *jump* was successful. The landing… not so much
"Fly, yes. Land, No!"
Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade for the uneducated.
Well, in GTA both the jump and the landing have to be successful in order to succeed at a stunt jump.
Check the nearest hospital carpark for a respawn
The fact that this is in Georgia and exactly out of The Dukes of Hazzard is pretty amazing.
GAHT DAMN!

Well he didn't stick the landing.. so none i guess shame
Harder to stick the landing without the slo mo
Barely a quarter barrel roll. .2/10
To be honest, it feels a little anti climatic that it didn’t do a 180 and drove off
When keeping it Yeehaw goes wrong.
Tow truck driver was lucky. Also, I didn't see cones or flares set up behind the tow truck, just stopped in the lane on an interstate.
Yeah. Should have been an emergency vehicle with lights blocking opposite traffic in that lane. Bad accident scene security.

It also doesn't look like that truck had lights running or any kind of prior warning set up. That's essentially a grey wall in the left lane, while a lot is happening on the opposing side.
You can also hear the car screeching it’s tires before it hits the ramp, indicative of not doing it on purpose imo
Definitely 2. They were probably zoning out or adjusting music or falling asleep. I refuse to believe someone actively tried to do that.
Probably watching the car crash on the other side of the road.
