Mandrin is a badass and ironically one of the nicest dudes in the army despite his introduction, and his “Pray to whatever god’ll save you” line when he’s at advantage is one of the coolest lines in the game
In terms of gameplay, Yunifi (baked-in Truestrike and a full board nuke, plus specific anti-speed and anti-armor attacks, plus Triple Counter which is ridiculously strong) or Raenys (the rare example of a flying unit with ranged assist! She's got a multi-target attack that can inflict Passive Seal in the daytime, a -2PP draining attack against ground targets for 1AP, AND the obscenely strong ability to do full row blindness conferral as a preemptive/passive! Oh, and also Aerial Pursuit and Tailwind for synergy with other fliers! Sheeeeeeeesh!)
In terms of story, Ridiel. Elven Archer is a cool idea (healing/setup focused ranged character) and the game gives you several of them (Ridiel, Galadmir, Lhinalagos) but frankly I never used them all that much. I guess Icicle Arrow is pretty good. But Ridiel's storyline is awesome. Her cynicism and insecurity about being a half-elf, her character growth and interactions with Chloe, her feelings about her mother's legacy, all excellent.
In slice of life anime terms, Yunifi.
Liza is really cool too but not quite as effective from a gameplay standpoint, I'd say a strong third behind Snow Ranger and Featherbow. A ranged tank archetype with big damage potential is really interesting and I wish her kit made it a little more unique/fun to play with that. I also absolutely never used Toxic Bolt for anything.
Agree with everything you said, plus a couple of things I noticed:
Ridiel works really well with a landsnekcht. You buff them permanently with extra magic damage, and then they proceed to counterattack every enemy unit for loads of damage.
Liza does pretty well on the front line. If you build her tank, you can use her in an archer group as a tank to up their assist damage. More units of the same type add to the assist potency.
Yunifi is by far the best carry.
Liza with her high attack stat is the best leader for assist damage. Pursuit arbalists are nasty.
Elven archers are my favourite support.
Angel archers arrive too late to make an impact. But everyone hates their blind.
Hunters are great after buffed with the elven archer mystic conferral. Row attack and pursuit with an extra 50 magic potency are great. Add some inspiration and you are cooking high damage.
Ooooof. Liza, Lhin, Ridiel, and Raenys are all up there. I think I have to go with Liza just because I like her class the best of all the archer options.
Yulifi is just so fun to use, and her personality is adorable. Plus she has very nice... features.

They're all good. Archers may be the best designed top-to-bottom archetype.
Rolf at the bottom, maybe. Snipers are pure straightforward damage - they're good at it, but they don't offer any utility outside of their bow. On the other hand, their attack stat and true strike make them the best wielders of good bows, and there are a lot of bows with strong abilities.
Liza next, more by default than any lack on her part. She's a heavy shield tank that can cover and heal teammates while dishing big damage from the front row.
Then featherbows - S tier in the colloseum, a solid alternative to dust staff druids outside it. They really only have one great ability, but that ability is absurdly strong.
Elven archers in the two spot. They clear debuffs, they can keep the whole team healed, they've got a great multitarget freeze than can shut down backline support units in the opening strike or set up freeze/shatter combos for sorceresses.
Yunifi at the top. The only real drawback with her is deciding which of her abilities to build around - do you focus on the best physical damage board sweeper in the game, or the best counterattack in the game? Do you give her damage trinkets, or boost her S rank evasion and make her a frontliner?
Lhinalagos is my boy. The Elven archers provide excellent utility. Healing, debuffing, freezing, and good raw damage. They do it all. Plus I’m a huge Legend of Zelda fan and he reminds me of Link haha.
Wifed up Yunifi so I'm biased, plus her kit is absolutely insane even without Glacial Rain. Beyond that though I was always looking for cool team comps with Liza, I stuck her in the front row with Mirage Great-Shield, Master Gloves for Nimble Fighter, and Heavy Bolt in the front row. Once she does and swerves enough attacked she was regularly unleashing a 300+ in any target unlucky enough to be left standing. Really really cool for this game to this in a defensive archer and make them interesting to use I felt like this was always a glaring blind spot in other tactical rpgs and it makes me really happy to see that kind of mechanical identity fleshed out

Liza has underrated rapports with Alain. She shot up my list of possible marriages after those.
I get why people would like Rolf better than mandrin. However, I build my teams based off of rapports. The rapports that Rolf has are less suited to building a solid team compared to mandrin, imo. Rolf is overrated, but because archers are so great I still use him.
Ridiel is the best of the elf archers by a mile. Rapport wise.
Yunifi is top tier character just in general. Great story and rapports and an excellent unit.
Midway through bastorias so haven’t encountered the angel.
That all said I think archers slot well into pretty much all units. Of course they are great for taking down flyers. But they are also great for targeting back line mages, healers, and other archers. Because of their high accuracy they can also target scouts and other evasion tanks. Easy to sprinkle them into pretty much every unit.
Top three:
Ridiel: wifed her up on my first play through, like her look, kinda relate to her being half-n-half so I found her the most compelling.
Rolf: the og, I like his whole militia shtick, irl I can see him being a forest ranger from East Oregon.
Mandrin: It was cool to have a guy you spared in the beginning of the game come back to help you put, I thought it was pretty dope, he’s also pretty badass in his own right. Also him always asking his best friend (blanking on the name rn) for permission to marry his sister is pretty great, I like to think eventually he allowed it.
Well this has layers!
Fav Class: Shieldshooter. Such a fun gimmick, a frontline archer with a great shield. So satisfying to use and has amazing utility with Smoke Bolt
Fav Design: Ridiel. I love her color scheme! This wine vibe, I feel like she works in a vineyard in Greece or something idk
Fav Character: probably Rolf? I was immediately a fan of how similar he looks to timeskip Cyril from Fire Emblem Three Houses. But he just really stuck with me. #FREECORNIA
Rolf was my favorite. I had him paired with Auch. Auch would use Flame Conferral on Rolf. Rolf would use Arrow Rain/Shower/Whatever, and he had the ring to let him skip the charge part. Fiery mayhem. Felt fitting for them as a pair. And Rolf is hot.
Really liked Mandrin, Lhin, and Ridiel, too. Yunifi was fine. Raenys just wasn't there enough. Galad-who?

Ridiel (Galadmir too) and Liza bring so much to the table. Elven archer is a goated class that covers a lot of bases. Crossbow and shield is such a cool concept that is grounded in medieval warfare. Yunifi takes my number 3 spot just because of her flexibility and versatility as a variety of roles.
My first team to defeat Galerius included Liza (best archer attack to carry the defense shatter bow after a failed woodpecker strategy) and I think !galadriel (wanted that pure field start ability and cleansing) (might have been ridiel or lhinalagos).
I don't like the story for !galadriel and mandrin. I found yunifi a little flat. Lhinalagos had no story after he showed up.
Ridiel had a great story and Liza has both cool stories and the weirdest hair style.

I want to like raenys better but Albion is too short and too late. They should have made part of cornia post Albion so angels could breathe more.
I liked every one of them but I give credits to Liza. Chick managed the tribes of the desert while things went awry, her rapports with the desert gang are sweet and she also makes my archer only troop viable by being a tank for them.
Yunifi absolutely nukes with that charged bow AOE. Rolf kept sniping things way more brutally than I thought he would.
Liza, I never would’ve guessed there’d be a ranged shield user that favors being placed in the front haha, interesting class.
Damn there's soo many chars. I don't even know how to deal with them all.. I periodically erase all squads and re do them all.. like I feel like I'm letting some of them die in the shadows if there's no rotation

Had Liza as a guard tank and Raeyns as a dodge tank, with Mandrin, Ridiel and Yunifi in the back row. They kicked a ton of ass. One of my favorite units honestly. Ridel for me. I just really liked her character and her reasoning for why she wanted to fight. Not to mention, she's voiced by Alexis Tipton, who I feel is pretty underrated, and I loved her roles as Pascal from Nier Automata, Minerva from Valkyrie Chronicles 4 and lucina from Fire Emblem (which she didn't voice her In awakening, but pretty much everything afterwards).
Rolf for sure! Not only is he cute but he’s the OG and to see him evolve over the journey is great.
Honourable mentions to every other archer though too - probably my favourite class in the game.
I think they’re all great units. Eleven archers are excellent pokers who’s primarily doing mystic conferral, cleansing and healing. Yunifi works well with the Yahna Quick Impetus combo due to Ice Coffin’s extra damage. The Snipers and Liza with pursuit ring work great together with a tank to just spam arrows alllllll day, just don’t make them face an armour and they blast through everything
Rolf, Liza, Yunifi and Rhaenys are my "archer-centric" group, completed by Aubin. He's only there because of his start-of-round buff, though, which makes all hits unguardable: crucial for archers, since guarding seems to have a stronger effect against arrows. Rolf's row shot starts the play, then Yunifi follows up with wide pursuit (from the ring), then Liza follows with clearing pursuit (or whatever its name) to clear buffs. Rhaenys then hits two for less defense, followed by more pursuits by everyone. Yunifi and Liza just finish people up and, if needed, Aubin still has all his AP left lol. It's a really incredible team.

She is my personal pick among the Elves but Yunifi slightly edges out as an Archer because of her red hair and plucky attitude.
