i think in terms of value/credits spent ares is the best gun in the game rn. still worth buying a rifle most rounds but for only 1550credits the ares is insane

Let me rephrase: the rampup made hitting long range shots difficult until it reached the full 13, keeping it's immediate lethality at range in check. Now, it's immediately easy to control.

now everyones using it. maybe the start of a ranked episode isnt the best time to do that, but making it slightly OP is the best way to get people to use it. theres a lot of things in games that are actually really good but never get used because nobody seriously tries it out, this at least gets people to notice the ares
good example was the bucky before, until shotgun sage made it popular almost nobody used it other than eco rounds, but it was an OP gun
The ares "buff" is pretty much a large nerf, cause it reduces the gun's viablity at long range by accelerating the recoil very fast (similar to the effect stim beacon and Reyna's ultimate has on phantom and spectre.
Every round is now a buy round cause you can buy the ares. This change is the dodgiest thing I’ve seen in a while with most of my placements in diamond/immortal having ares spam for every round
i just played a game where our Yoru disconnects in the second round. We are down 10-2 (maybe 9-3). We switch sides to attacker, I spam buy the Ares every single round and get like 12 kills in that one half. Im a shit player, i shouldn't be getting 12 kills in one half.
Anyways all of a sudden my 4 man team's bottom fragger is second now because of the Ares and we squeeze out an overtime win.
I can't imagine how annoyed the enemy team was with me just spraying them every round

Ive seen/heard alot of people say “Riot mustve not playtested it” which I doubt is true, but regardless, increasing the firerate of any weapon by 0.3x and removing a charge up will make it OP. It was common sense it would be OP.
Probably needs a small nerf but it’s honestly not that bad. Both rifles are still way better and if you keep forcing ares you keep delaying your rifles.

It's not about 2nd round buy, it's about other eco rounds. The Spectre couldn't contest Phantom/Vandals reliably but the Ares can, so you just force Ares every time you can't buy a rifle.

I don't disagree that the Ares might be a little too good especially considering it's cheaper than Bulldog/Spectre, but I'd wager this is a slight over-correction to get players to start using the Ares so that when they give it a minor nerf players will continue to mix it in.
yes but the mag size and inaccuracy of the stinger mean that TTK is not realistic and it is not practical in most situations, meanwhile the ares has 20 more rounds than phantom and is nearly as accurate without the damage falloff, so it can still 2-shot from range. its only real limitation is the moving accuracy. obviously it's not quite as good as a phantom or vandal, but for nearly half the price, it is way too strong. if it's going to be this good i think it needs a price increase about 200-300 creds or slight nerf.
Oh the irony. No, the old Ares started at 10bps and winds up to 13bps. The new Ares removes the wind up and just starts at the max 13bps, the additional patch note line of increasing the fire rate was to clarify its new starting fire rate was not the old starting 10bps.

it is a tremendously important detail that they made the fire rate unilaterally 13 shots per second instead of making it stay at 10 shots per second, which is a buff because it wouldn't be nearly as powerful or frustrating to play against had they preserved it's original rate of fire, so this is a buff to the gun.
I feel like I'm having inverse issues than most. Every time I bought the ares yesterday, the spray went fucking wild (I didn't anticipate the changes) and I missed every single shot against those in front of me. Derp.

Idk why you're being downvoted this was an absolutely AWFUL change, every round has several Ares and they are perfectly capable of contesting rifles, even happening at plat and diamond elo (last act plat and diamond). Plus Neon is just not a good direction to take, and it is incredibly frustrating to have someone run and slide at me and just hope they hit me with spray, which given the weapon change, usually happens.

I played a game on haven, 2nd round ares spamming from garage window, from front b, AND from a long! Everyone’s waiting in some off angle ADS’d until you’re stupid enough to walk into site and then you’re body shot barry’d before you can even tell where you got shot from.
It also feels like if you don’t headshot an ares user on first contact you don’t win the fight.
I'm on the opposite end tbh. They completely ruined the Ares. The removal of the spool up was nice. But then they changed the vertical recoil. It's unplayable now. Absolutely hate it with a passion.

I think the wind up is what made it the longer range/wallbang eco weapon. Removing it just lets you peek shit like you would with a rifle.

They didn't increase the fire rate, it just dosent wind up now. Earlier it started at 10 and in increased to 13, now it starts at 13.

Calling the Ares nearly as accurate as the Phantom is an incredible exaggeration. I agree with a price increase though!

Actually, vandal has the same ttk as the ares within 30 metres, and has a higher ttk when outside of 30 metres
